I'm wondering whether there will be people among the ones fighting for the championship who will make a choice other than Verstappen for the winner of the race or pole for the Japan GP this week. Especially for pole position I'm expecting to see Sainz Jr's name quite many times.
Most likely, it depends on free practice results, which teams are strong and if there's a chance to see Red Bull struggling.
I can only see participants select someone different from Verstappen, in case Red Bull really struggles in free practice and we know already which team is clearly in front of Red Bull. Because if we don't know, we have so many drivers outside of Red Bull who could get on pole, like Sainz, Leclerc, Norris, Hamilton, Russell. It's very risky.
And drivers from Ferrari or Mercedes are almost equally strong. If Ferrari is dominating, we have Sainz OR Leclerc on pole, while for Red Bull, it is Verstappen for 90% of all races, when Red Bull takes pole.

Personally, I've chosen Sainz for pole in Singapore because he and Ferrari seemed to be very strong in Singapore and Red Bull struggled but if Red Bull will be up as usual and as expected in Japan, I'll select Verstappen for pole in Japan. After all, we don't have odds on Superbru.
But of course, it mainly depends on free practice.  Smiley

If you mean words related to Blockchain technology and Bitcoin, it's very normal, that you don't know the meaning of certain words because Bitcoin is a very complicated topic. You will learn what words like Blockchain, transaction hash, wallet, mining, SegWit or private key mean. Tuturtinular already gave you a great link above, where such words are explained.
If it's for a normal discussion, we might have some strange people here, (also trolls), who don't talk like normal people and are just here to troll.

But like said before, we would need a few examples.  Smiley

You (and we) can talk normally, like we talk every day and in my opinion, it's also very important to talk normally because it's easier for me, you and other people here to understand a written text.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  Smiley

744  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Important to know: Difference Coin / Token and shady marketing practices on: September 19, 2023, 10:06:38 PM

False marketing is deceiving buyers
This here 👆👆 seems like a major characteristic of altcoins!!!
You are 100% right here.
Marketing is, where Altcoins are strong but unfortunately, most Altcoin marketing is deceiving costomers by various shady strategies.
Depending on each target group, deceiving tacting have a very wide range and are optimized to attract each target group.

Another thing I should learn is: Can a token be decentralized in any way? The developers of those tokens have all control over their tokens, and it's fully centralized. So, I assume every token is centralized, and developers can control users' money by increasing the supply. Isn't it like that?
Interesting question.
I'm not an Altcoin developer and there might (insert big question mark here) be ways to have a decentralized token but I really don't know 100%.
Possibly, a DAO can be decentralized if it is set up that way and tokens are distributed in a fair (decentralized) way to many people, that voting for such a DAO isn't manipulated by a developer team.
Requirement is as well: for such a token, it would mean that no one can change anything without consent from all token holders. After initially setting the DAO up, code has to be open source and audited.

It's what I can imagine but as I'm not an Altcoin developer / coder, I don't feel qualified to make a final statement here. Maybe it's a question for our coder specialists in Development and Technical DiscussionSmiley

Although I agree with your points but I'd like to add that the main way of scamming people in the altmarket is not disguising a token as a coin, most people already don't understand the difference or care, it is by telling them the garbage they are buying is "useful" has "potential" or sometimes weird things like "it is replacing bitcoin".
Yes, Altcoins have various strategies to deceive people.
Advertising a token as a coin is just one strategy.
Like you've said, falsely advertising the underlying tech is a big problem here:
- overpromising
- promising "big innovation" / new Bitcoin
- hyping banal / outdated / copied tech
- trying to tell people how the coin / token will be (globally) important

It all boils down to advertising their coin's / token's fundamentals as something, what it's not in reality.
It's part of a big pool of strategies from Altcoins to deceive people

Additional strategies are:
- buying hype YouTubers
- spreading misinformation about competitors

Examples of coins are: ~  Ethereum, Ethereum Classic,~
These are not exactly coins either. The technical term used for ether is "smart contract fuel".
Bitcoin is closer to Litecoin or Monero, which could be called "transaction coins".
Ethereum is also a coin but Ethereum is different from Bitcoin because Ethereum is a "platform coin" similar like Tron, Polkadot, Avalanche or similar, where it, like you've said, is needed to send Ethereum tokens, as a part of Ethereum's smart contract.
Bitcoin is more a coin to send in transactions.

They claim to be decentralized and ground breaking in their whitepaper but turn out to be none of these things.
+1
Well said.

Like swogerino said, none of us changed even with the starting grid.
Yes, changing picks would have backfired big time because Russell (started 2nd) and Leclerc (started 3rd) couldn't achieve a podium.
Russell binned it while trying to overtake Norris in lap 61 of 62 (what a bummer) and Leclerc had bad luck during his pitstop, where he dropped from place 2 to 6.
Shows one more time how 2 EBP are really a lot, especially for a chaotic race, where overally a low score is met.

I know about these services but unfortunately I've wasted quite a lot of time to try tons of these services and tons of numbers just to know in the end that either all limits are reached for a certain number ("this number is not allowed to enter as it has reached max limit of created accounts") or the confirmation SMS just never arrives. I've wasted so much time for this BS. I've had a polish site once (it's not active anymore), where I've created a few Accounts and sometimes Google doesn't request a number, so I've an Gmail Account available for this Contest and I'm set, even when it will be required to sign up from Gmail.
I'll submit my picks later today.  Smiley
I just recently used that free SMS service for first time and then couple of more times since it worked really well. First number I choose worked every time and I had to wait maybe 2 minutes to get confirmation SMS. Did not even know they existed before but now I don't have any problems using them in the future whenever there is need for phone verification.
+1, if it's ok for you, I might PM you next weekend because Google's / Gmail's crap is such a f**** BS. I've already wasted 1 hour today again to log in because Google / Gmail seems to have deactivated 2 of my accounts, where I've logged in previously without any problems but now, it's requesting a number. No, backup mail confirmation code is not enough, Google wants a SMS number.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
I've tried 2 free SMS numbers, response "limit is exhausted - try later in 1 hour again".  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
Luckily, my 3rd attempt for my 3rd account was succesful, Gmail account is still accessible. What a joke. F*** Gmail.
Sorry for off-topic. It's such a pain in the arse...  Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed

Picks are submitted now, yaay.  Smiley

But @buwaytress
Is it normal in your Google form, that it says submissions from my mail address and my Google account are NOT eligible (because it is not whitelisted?)?
Did my 1miau entry appear in your list? I couldn't access your spreadsheet.

~snip
I have read the thread here a day or two ago and saw that cryptofrka posted that it could be smart to bet all 10 points on Manchester City.

this is a smart move for first round, but odds are really miserable, there are some also pretty secure picks, that offer a bit better odds than City against Crvena Zvezda
Odds are very low but honestly, Man City not winning at home would be one of the biggest upsets of recent Champions League history.
(Yes, I've taken Manchester to win here for most of my stake. It's too tempting somehow.  Cheesy Cheesy)

Good luck to everyone.  Smiley

Quote
Cøbra, the pseudonymous owner of Bitcoin.org, reported on Twitter Monday that the website was hit with an “absolutely massive” DDoS attack along with a ransom demand for an undisclosed amount of Bitcoin

Quote
“Back in the day, you could put up a reasonable fight against most DDoS attacks,” said Cøbra. “Now, they just down you at will. There is no ‘fight’ anymore, you go down and stay down until they leave you alone.

https://t.co/OsFgRFRRZb getting hit with an absolutely massive DDoS attack and a ransom demand to send Bitcoin or they'll continue.

I don't think I've been this offended in a while. Ungrateful scum.”

RED BULL not in the Top 10 for the Singapore F1 GP - that has to be the news story of the day surely?
Very unexpected to see NO Red Bull on podium today. Singapore didn't seem to suit Red Bull very well. Next round is already next weekend in Japan, where Red Bull should be dominant again but who knows...
Ferrari seems to be quick currently, like in Monza as well.

Yes F1 results for this week was a big surprise to me.
I even changed my Superbru predictions in Sportsbet F1 Pool but they were wrong again.  Tongue
Unbelievable how George Russell binned it in lap 61 of 62. Just one lap to go and he crashed out instead of taking a podium.
But great drive from Sainz, he truly deserved to win here after 10 Verstappen wins in a row.

Looking forward to Champions League starting soon and which team will challenge Man City.
I'm sure group stage will have some surprises, especially in group PSG / Newcastle / Dortmund / Milan.

Cry

I'll put a list up shortly, it'll be roughly 40 participants in the end.
+1

I thought about no-account signup but it's then possible to submit multiple entries... and even for someone else to submit on someone else's behalf.
We could add a rule in our OP that only the first eligible entry will count in case of multiple submissions.
And for fake submissions, we could add a part in the form, where every participant will have to submit a (6-digit) personal code (like trading password), only known to you (column will be hidden in the final table). If there's a dispute for a fake submission, we could spot any fake submission easily.
Of course, if it's too much work to change now, I'll accept either outcome if there is a concern for non-Google account form.  Smiley

Google accounts are easy to create, I make multiple ones for throwaway use -- let me know if you have problems.
It's always requesting a mobile number for verification here, sometimes I've had a VPN connection where it's not requested but only in 1 of 20 cases or so.  Cheesy

Pools are live!
I see, you really put a ton of effort into it and I'm very sure it'll pay off for everyone. +1
2 different pools will make it much more exciting in my opinion. Maybe some people will be down in one pool but up in another, so it'll stay interesting to participate.
I'm looking forward already to all of your picks.

But maybe 2 suggestions:
  • One less important suggestion to add a list in your OP of which participants have paid already to have an overwiew.
  • And one suggestion regarding our Google form: do we really have to log in all the time in our Google account? Google has an option to disable it, where we can fill out a form and don't need to log in every time. Would save us some time and also from a privacy perspective because Google accounts are very difficult to create. Maybe we can disable mandatory log-in from an Google account?

Good luck to all participants of course.  Smiley

I don't know if you guys picked on it but BTCGOSU is killing it this week. I have no idea how he is last one on the table and already has 22 points in this round. Something does not compute Smiley
BTCGOSU forgot to submit his picks for round 1 and 2, which is very painful to miss such points but his awesome result is also a good argument to keep submitting weekly picks, even after missing some rounds because of yellow caps. And it's still early where making up lost points is still easily possible.  Smiley
