Did you think hit chinese exchange is possible ?
or/and have a chinese community ?

There was a strategy plan created by me to get first to Japanese and then Chinese exchanges, which is still pinned in the Cryptocoderz Slack, but nobody has tried following it yet.  Wink I would also like to see this happen, but all I can do is giving suggestions.

Hi guys, I have never staked before. I've got some questions.

1.How do I stake in the espers wallet, is there a tutorial somewhere for this?
2. If i stike my espers, do I need to keep my pc on and running the espers wallet for 24/7? Or can I stake them and just put out my pc?

Thanks in advance

1) & 2) You must leave your wallet open unlocked, for staking only. This means you must leave also your PC open.

Always connected to the interwebz?

Yes. Read on the web how POS (proof of stake) works. Wink You can only stake while your computer is connected to the internet.

Note that the probability of finding stakes is very low for Espers currently, if you only have a small amount. In that case you might want to use the POSWallet service instead.

Confused. Why is it on Coinexchange it's Espers(ESP) and on Novaexchange it's Espers(ESP2). What is the difference and which one should I buy? It say's ESP2 is on the new chain?

They are the same. Espers changed the coin as there was a previous version of Espers. New devs took it over and the private keys between the two coins are not compatible. There was an exchange period to conerts Espers 1 to Espers 2, which is now over. Any holding of Espers 1 are now worthless. Some exchange's don't allow a coin identifier to be reused so Novaexchange added a 2 to the identifier. This coin is actually Espers 2. The coins being sold on Coinexchange and Novaexchange are the same coin so both are safe to use. Do not under any circumstances buy coins from Yobit as they are the old Espers 1 which are no longer valid and you will just be wasting your money.

Almost correct. Same devs. The swap was due a design decision that could not be deployed while keeping the same chain.

Thanks for the extensive answer, Colin!

To be totally transparent, I was hoping this thread may fade away, as it was launched accidentally and not in the manner that was intended (we had a mix-up on the to-do list and Sherry went ahead and posted this announcement prematurely). After the proper one was up, I was going to pull in the questions received on this thread and ensure they were answered.

Ok I don't think it will be a great problem, you can then just link this PRE-ANN thread in the actual one.

One thing I wonder about is, what will be the terms of the ICO? Is it a first-come, first serve with fixed price? (in which case people like me would need to start allocating funds much earlier). If so, what is the price? Or will the tokens simply be distributed proportionally to the amount of money someone invested? In that case, do you count the price at the day of investing (e.g. 1 BTC = $2500 on day 1) or on the final day, when the price may be different? (e.g. the same BTC may only be $2000 or even $3000 on 27th July). You should announce these things before the ICO starts, so people can accumulate funds early if necessary.

2. Users will be able to spend DSTs on advertising / promotion (it will drive the Adwords-like, but open and unobtrusive ad platform). Opening up different types of features and ability to customize the system is a great idea, and one we can definitely refine further and incorporate into the road map in more detail - we'd love any thoughts that you have. We have some early ideas about customizations that could be offered - more on the visual side and ability to activate different personalization options. There's also a great opportunity around data and ability to mine it for insight.

3. At this stage, we see that the revenue / incentives will be primarily on the advertiser side. They will pay for the opportunity to be discovered 'outside' of the natural results. These fees can be directed to reward the nodes. The key to launch the project is to get consumer usage first, which is why we're launching it as more of a search tool that will direct people to existing indexes (ex. Google, DuckDuckGo, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). Once we have usage and can start collecting data, we'll be in a much better position to architect the interface (we're thinking it won't be in the traditional '10 blue links' format) and index / relevance model.

Ok I don't quite get these points ... the network is running decentralized between nodes, right? Why would I run a node? Do I have any advantage from it? It costs money (or resources in general) to run a reliable node.

As a user, I would rather pay to NOT have advertisements, lol. There are enough search engines that don't have ads, and also there are ad blockers ... I would rather expect to be paid for looking at advertisements, seriously.  Grin I'm not quite sure how this business model will work? Also, who will the advertisers pay money to? To your company? Or the node operators and users of the network.

Thirdly, how do you want to make people switch their search engine? Are there any distinctive features that your product will offer, compared to, say, DuckDuckGo? I'm not quite sure what you mean by "search tool". Every search engine is a search tool for me.

Also I've been quite accustomed to the way I am searching, I'm not sure I would be interested in a way to "customize" the interface or so ... or even pay money for it?! Most people just want something that works. And if you're ultra-fancy you can even have Google "themes" or such stuff. The problem with customizing the interface itself that I see is that it also requires you to change your workflow. So it will be essentially the Emacs of search engines, that only a few nerds are using. Cheesy The most important feature that today's search engines have, IMO, is that they are simple, and they all work the same.

So to make this clear, I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm asking the questions that are critical to me, in order to understand if I like your concept or not. Smiley

Apologies for the silly question guys but how can I obtain the private key/passphrase for my Windows desktop wallet?

You create your own passphrase.  On the left side of the wallet, in the drop down list under "Backup," select "Change Passphrase" (or perhaps it says "Create Passphrase" initially - I don't recall).  The passphrase is used for unlocking the wallet.

I don't know how to obtain the private key, in fact I was wondering about that myself.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know how to find the private key either. If you look in the spectrecoin 'roaming' folder, there appears to be a private key within the 'onion' folder although I'm not sure if it's the correct one.

Like with every other Bitcoin-based wallet... using the 'dumpprivkey' command in the Debug console.

If your wallet is encrypted, take a glimpse here and then use dumpprivkey: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=356943.0

Type 'help' in the console to see what the syntax is.

Actualy there are. We are working on Android wallet and also on xNodes.

What does the 'x' stand for? Extra? Extreme? Exclusive? Expensive?  Grin

I believe these are expensive nodes (xNodes) that will be somewhat similar to 'Masternodes' of Dash.

Well indeed the mn will be a little bit expensive but for those who can't afford one still can stake the coins (25% / year is  a good payout). About the amount was voted 25 million espers, but when the community voted the price of 1 ESP was 1/2 satoshi. Another thing 25 million / mn won but there was people who voted 50 and 100 million also. About the xNodes well... first was ixNodes ( for Inteligent TX Nodes, but I simplified it to just xnodes).

dash mn = 172000 $ / mn , esp is 9300 $

current supply 20.19 Billion / 25 Million per masternode = 807 masternodes
max supply 50 Billion /25 Million per masternode = 2000 masternodes --> all coins mined

that is assuming everyone has more than 25 Million with 25 Million denominations (ex. 50M, 100M, 150M....) and there are no exchanges that have coins(cannot masternode for this example)..

dash currently has ~ 4500 masternodes, ESP can only have a lot less than 807 masternodes (assuming masternodes are ready to be implemented now) isn't 25 million per ESP masternode really good for the health of the network?

You also have to take into consideration the fact that the Dash network is much bigger. How many % of the nodes in the network should be a masternode?

I don't know any statistics but I'm sure the Dash network is magnitudes bigger than the Espers network right now, so shouldn't the number of masternodes match that ratio? Just a thought ...

Also the plan (afaik) is to adjust the price for a masternode later on, like they are doing with Insane. That will make sure the price per masternode and masternodes ratio in the network make sense and are not ridiculously high or low.

My personal suggestion to CCz was to adjust the payout and power of masternodes dynamically, depending on the balance you reserve for it, and on the ratio of masternodes in the network. I don't know if any of that has made it into the "xNodes" idea though.

Hi Colin, I have a few questions for you here:

1. Why do you use an ETH token? If you're not using any specific ETH features you could in general also run your own coin with its own chain, which would be a much more lightweight solution. Personally I don't like ETH too much, that's why I'm asking.  Wink It's way too big and bloated IMO. Have you considered alternative options to ETH? What about running your own ETH chain between the search engine nodes if ETH is what you need?

2. How are users going to spend DST? I read that people can pay developers for making new features using DST. Anything else? Are there any features (performance, search accuracy or other search features) that people can spend their DST for?

3. If the network is being decentralized, how are nodes going to be rewarded? Do people need to spend a small amount of DST to make their search, and pay the nodes which are processing it? Are nodes going to be rewarded for the indexing/crawling work that they probably need to do?

4. Have you evaluated the possibilities of working together, extending or integrating your ideas and especially the monetary/blockchain aspect with an existing distributed search engine such as YaCy? http://www.yacy.net/en/

Thanks for coming here, however I see this is going to be a pretty small ICO if things continue like this ... which leads to my 5th question:

5. How much do you depend on funds raised by ICO? Are you going to be able to continue and finish this project if you just raise a small amount?

6. What is the "token presale" vs. the "initial token sale" that is mentioned on your website?

Phew, no answers? Must say that I'm a bit disappointed.  Undecided

Hi, guys, anyone having somewhere the old Espers-qt.exe ? (from the first days of Espers)

I was out of the altcoin ecosystem for months, and now I'm trying the new Espers-qt.exe client, and it cannot read my old Espers wallet I had backed up. ("Warning: error reading wallet.dat! All keys read correctly, but transaction data or address book entries might be missing or incorrect.") and exits. Plus, I've  lost the old Espers-qt.exe file.

Has the Espers coin changed? Can I do anything with my old Espers, or they are burned for ever? Any idea?

If your coins are from earlier than October 2016, then unfortunately you have missed the swap, which means your old Espers are not usable any more. You have to buy some new.

Thanks for the clarification, your education was very good for my study. Much appreciated!!  Wink

So, I understand yobit deal with ESP1 and others are moved to ESP2. Some of early adapters holding ESP1 lost chance to swap ESP1 to ESP2.

Then, ESP1 holders have to deal with Yobit or dispose it, or newly purchasing ESP2 with extra money.

That's the situation.

So, I can imagine like this. let's say, Polo list ESP2 and then, ESP1 holders and Yobit user send ESP1 to Polo. I guess  Polo will not accept it. But some users will claim to Polo why they don't accept it's same ESP ticker and probably sends a support ticket. I guess they don't want to deal with such support ticket.

There might be different story if yobit dispose ESP1 and everybody disregards ESP1 without question and any claim to dev.

I think the way to Polo is bit far at this point of time. Isn't it? Huh

You got it.  Smiley

It's not a question if Polo "accepts" it or not, because if the transaction is happening on the ESP1 chain, then it's not even visible on the ESP2 chain.

We are still trying to make Yobit delist ESP1 and list the new ESP (team has been trying to get in contact with them since many months).

Polo might be still some way to go, yes. But I'm confident that it will happen eventually, just as Yobit will eventually remove the old ESP market.

Hello,
ESP is at 15 satoshi, is it a good time to enter in?

Maybe. Maybe not. It's up to you to decide, nobody here knows the future.  Wink

What is your personal opinion on this one Gandalf86?

I won't hold you any responsibility for what you will say, I'm just curious about your thoughts.

I'm still holding all my ESP which means that I still expect some good profit from this on the long term. You may not get rich with this any more (like if you had bought one year ago) but there's still some nice profit to get if you are patient. At least 10x profit or so...

AFAIK, BTC has already forked before the DAO/ETH night mare happen. So, I won't claim the fork event itself. But as you mentioned, if ESP is called and recognized ESP1 or ESP2, that's different story. ETH did fork but ETH holder before the folk can use ETH as well as after words of the night mare.

How about ESP? Are ESP1 and ESP2 can transfer into one wallet? My understanding is "no" - as far as I seek the ESP thread -  you need swap old one to new one right? If that circumstance, Polo will not list such coin.

If my understanding is wrong, let me know. When I got it, I may invest some to this coin as a gamble.  Cool

Your understanding is right, ESP1 is incompatible with ESP2. It's not a hard fork but a swap to an entirely new chain. It was a decision that the developers deemed necessary. I wouldn't agree that Polo will not list it just for this single reason, if there are no other problems with it. ESP is going to be very innovative and the swap thing is an issue way of the past. ESP1 is abandoned and the ticker has been re-used for the new coin of the Espers project. All exchanges except Yobit have followed this decision.

Has anyone been successful in compiling the source code on linux, either with or without QT?  I get errors about event2/util.h in Tor.

if you're on ubuntu you need to
Code:
apt-get install libevent-dev

Thanks, that helped compile on my Ubuntu desktop, and it runs fine.  However, it builds on raspi3 (lubuntu/ubuntu) but when I run spectre it gives :

  tor_assertion_failed() : Bug : src/tor/memarea.c:127 ...

Does it work on the raspi3?

I did add another 1G of swap on the raspi, so there is around 1.5G before starting spectre.

Please file a bug report on Github: https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre

I remember a similar problem on my Raspi3, now running it on a x86 server. I'm afraid that until someone fixes the problem, you'll not be able to use the Raspberry 3.  Undecided

i have to pay a guy, i had him on my computer for 2 hours trying to fix espers qt. We saw 1 active peer, at best. We went around and around, input the nodes someone suggested, he knows where to find other nodes other than that list I got from here.
But he couldnt get it.
He said to ask if there was a problem or if anybody was stuck on a particular block as it the whole time it didn't move.

Are the web based wallets that can stake client side? I don't think I'd be interested in a web wallet unless it was. Anyway having issues with the wallet and hired a very competent computer engineer and he couldnt figure it out.

You are still not giving any information about the problem, other than that you're not having any connections. Let me quote myself once again:

Sorry there are so many questions (which are always the same questions, again and again btw.), I cannot answer everything. Maybe we can set up a help desk system for the community to track questions and help each other? Does anybody have the required resources for this?

Until then, just read the past 10-15 pages, and chances are that your question is answered somewhere already. Here is a summary:

  • Yes the "expected time to reward" is wrong, try multiplying it by 1000 or so.
  • It can take weeks until you get your first stake, depending on your balance. One solution could be to split your funds to many different addresses (or inputs to be exact).
  • For network errors, check your ports and add more nodes
  • For all other problems, try resyncing from scratch and use a bootstrap for it

From what I have heard, there is also a Wiki or FAQ in the works somewhere ...

Did you try the last two points? What were the results? What operating system do you use? What version of the wallet do you use? Where did you download the wallet from?

So just to clarify my thinking, my ESP holdings are now worthless?

That's just bad business and terrible for marketing a coin when original supporters of any coin are eliminated by a swap.

I hold 80+ active altcoin wallets at any given time which is not unusual for those of us who invest in cryptocurrencies and infrastructure as I do.

Most of my crypto collegues hold even more active wallets, some as many as 150.

1) How can one be expected to monitor all of their holding's platforms to protect against these situations?

2) What would investors Not Do if altcoins started pulling these swap and burns like has been done in this instance?

Suggestion: If you're going to burn original investors best to walk away from the ESP name and dev. completely and start over from scratch in my humble opinion.

On and on it's just another brick in the wall

Yes. I understand your frustration about this, and you're not the only one frustrated. But this has been marketed as an experimental blockchain project from the very beginning, not as a buy-and-hold investment property. Maybe your strategy of buying and forgetting just didn't work out in this case.
