This comes naturally to the fox, who realises that no matter how old he is in years, he will always be a pup.

No, it's nothing to do with the merits; it's to do with how the database maps message IDs to thread pages. My message, for example, is on page 1 of this thread, and so the link takes you to page 1 of this thread. No problems there. However, if that message were on page 2, the link would take you to page 2, and (I suspect) would continue to do so even if deletion of earlier posts causes the message to drop back to page 1. I don't know the details of how SMF 1 actually maps messages to threads, but it's probably a total mess. |
