7781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What tools or regulations can governments impose on Bitcoin? on: December 06, 2012, 04:35:30 PM
As mentioned above, some regulations already apply. Such as tax obligations.
7782  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So why are you guys interested in bitcoins? on: December 06, 2012, 04:33:55 PM
Utility. It is the safest, simplest way to buy anything from anyone in the world.

I think this is a bit optimistic. Exchanging and managing bitcoins still requires the use of a computer and an internet connection, which makes it vulnerable compared to physical money from a established currency. Since it is still a very new currency there are also risks of the whole system crashing down due to unforeseen reasons.

However it's probably the easiest way to make anonymous payments.
I hear what your saying and you may be right. But if one factors in the complexity of setting up an bank account and getting it linked to a credit card, then bitcoin may compare more favorably. Once your client is up and running, pulling he trigger on a purchase is easy.
When it comes to international sales I think bitcoin is even more powerful. I bought a food recipe from a student in China once. Can you imagine how difficult that would have been without bitcoin?

Got a somewhat neutral reply from wikimedia.

Rodeox, Nov 29 06:49 (PST): As a fan of wikipedia's knobble contribution to the Internet and
humanity, I would like to thank you and offer some support. I know that
the need to raise money is a constant struggle and that every bit helps.
However I have not found a way to safely and privately donate to
Wikipedia, I would urge you to consider accepting donations denominated
in Bitcoin.
Bitcoin offers you the opportunity to receive help without sharing part
of the donation with PayPal or credit card companies. Many of us will
simply never use such options for donation. Your money is ready to be
transmitted and would be in your wallet in seconds, if only you had a
bitcoin wallet.

7786  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-11-25 VictoryIndependence interviews Trace Mayer on: December 05, 2012, 09:01:47 PM
What struck me the most about this and other interviews: is it really too hard to explain how the blockchain works? I mean these peoples main issue with bitcoin is a lack of understanding how it works. ...

You got me thinking. I'm pretty sure I have never seen a news article accurately describe what bitcoin is. Has anyone in the press ever gotten this right?

Would you not be tied to your partner?
Don't tie that nut to me! lol

But seriously, your partner is one of the few things up there not bolted down. You would want to clip into the structure. Kinda like grabbing the rope while rock climbing. It feels natural, but the rope moves around while the rock is solidly in place.
7790  Other / Off-topic / Re: What to do if you're crazy about a girl that has a boyfriend? on: December 05, 2012, 06:08:49 PM
Tell her. You have nothing to loose. Just tell her "I like you, and I'm going to try to impress you." Tell her your going to try for a month, then move on if it does not work out. If you follow through with that plan then you can't loose.

The most likely outcome may be that she marries the guy but remembers you for years. Then when she is old, fat and preggo she will call you one night. lol

I led mountaineering trips for years and never got over my fear of height. I just got better at trusting my gear. But this, NO F#<king WAY!
7795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the Bible Code on: December 05, 2012, 03:29:00 PM
This theory has been shown to be a math trick. It was applied to Moby Dick, the dictionary and other works, which also showed these coded "predictions". It is not about the bible, rather a formula to create patterns. There is nothing magical about the bible. It is typical of ancient writings.

7800  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Indiana State Police Chief: Legalize and Tax Pot on: December 03, 2012, 07:43:03 PM
I can feel the winds of change, but I just hope all these states that will end up legalizing it don't have ridiculous tax rates. I don't mind paying a little but I keep hearing politicians talking about 25-30% tax rates and that's just ridiculous.

I understand it's easy to grow. How do they stand on that?

Corn hash wiskey is easy to make as well, that fact hasn't prevented an entire industry from being built around alcohol.  And one that, prior to 1913, was the US federal government's primary tax base.
They can't charge too much in tax or it will just go back underground. Besides, there should be enough for a high tax and some real profits; and it could still be cheaper.
