I think a jewelry store could do a gold test for free.  If it's real gold, who cares where it's from.

Because you have 0 connections you may be using an outdated client.  Anything older than version 0.24 will likely have trouble finding peers. You can install a newer client or use a "fallback node".  That is a node still running an old version, check here.: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Fallback_Nodes

If you said Windows ME my eyes would just gloss over and I would pound +1 in rage, but Vista is awesome cause it paved the way for and ensured driver support for Windows 7.
Roger that, ME is the worst distro ever. But I have a copy of vista 64 that has to be second place. Man it's $hitty.
8753  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Red Baloons paper on: November 16, 2011, 04:57:13 PM
The slashdot article says microsoft researchers found a "flaw" in bitcoin. A flaw? well, that is what they called it maybe. But I don't consider it a flaw.
Windows Vista is a much better example of a software flaw.

I have never personally invested in precious metal futures, but my understanding is that it is considered high risk. A lot of stuff can happen between you writing a check and gold coming out of the ground. I am also skeptical of the wisdom of buying at historically high prices. It may be hard to follow through with the most important rule; Buy low, sell high.
8755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OKPAY accepting bitcoin as a deposit method on: November 15, 2011, 03:39:19 PM
People often attack what they don't understand.  If Steam ever did accept BTC the same people attacking it would be telling their friends how awesome and revolutionary it is.  A large portion of population is always going to follow.

BTC = Stupid.
Steam adopts BTC = Awesome.
On a related note Steam = Stupid

What about a virus/plague?  You don't want to be burying those bodies directly in the ground, or they could continue to poison the area. ...
Exactly. If 50k people are suddenly dead from a quake, disease becomes a huge issue. And notice how the "concentration camps" are empty. Doesn't it make more sense that FEMA would be involved because that is the kind of thing needed in an emergency?

In your state. You are still responsible for federal registration or it could be seized by the police at any time for any reason. That is really the only reason to comply with federal firearm regulations: the police will take your shit if you don't.
I don't really know to much about the federal laws. For what it's worth, a trainer at a gun class I recently attended said it was advisable to go through a licensed dealer because if the gun is involved in a crime the police will come to you first. But that it was legal to sell your handgun to your neighbor.  Personally I would use a dealer to buy any handgun. But I would buy a rifle at a garage sale.

While I do like the idea of a "stabbing pen", is there any chance of listing firearms? I'm looking for an AR-15 or maybe a nice handgun.

Hey, sorry. Although I have access to legal firearms, I don't know enough of the legalities of it so I won't dabble.
Thanks
Understandable, I have seen a few firearms for sale in bitcoins, I think there is a PSO for sale at bitcoinclassifieds, but not many.

I dont wanna mention its name but *ahem* Silk Road *ahem* has plenty of firearms  Roll Eyes

Actually, very few of those guys will ship you an unregistered firearm. They are remarkably hard to get your hands on without being amongst the dirtiest of the street gangsters.
Most of the firearms sellers on SR have to go through FFS, and you end up having to pay brokerage fees and taxes for it, not to mention that it is yours in the federal registry.
I wold be afraid of buying a gun from SR. Although maybe I could get a deal on one of those guns the Feds let walk in Mexico.  Smiley
One loop hole that some can use is a private sale. In my state, and maybe others, you can buy/sell a gun from another state citizen without a federal firearms licenses.

I would invest in a drugs futures market. Considering how consistently people have used drugs since before recorded history, I think it would be a very conservative bet.
I'm amazed how you americans are attracted to making money by speculation, not doing real work, such as growing and selling the drugs by yourself. In soviet union speculation was punishable even by death penality.
Well, if I had the option I would earn my money as a drug tester.  Grin
