81  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Activitate si Merit pe forumul Romanesc. Solutii? on: September 26, 2018, 02:31:00 PM

Solutii? on: September 26, 2018, 10:23:29 AM

83  Other / Meta / Re: So I've Become a Merit Source... Need Some Advice on: September 25, 2018, 04:02:05 PM
But I have question, what will happen to merit source if he/she never giving any of his/her merit because let say OP's case , lack of time although OP's posting is very insightful ?
As far as I know, you get a certain amount of sMerit when you're a source. When you "spend" it it will be replenished the same date next month.

In theory, if you don't spend your assigned merit you won't get it back the next month so, it's almost how budgets are made - spend or loose Smiley

At least that's how I understood it, others feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

84  Other / Meta / Re: So I've Become a Merit Source... Need Some Advice on: September 25, 2018, 03:53:08 PM
I think the best way to award merit is to look through a lot of posts each day. So, this may require more hours per day (if you're not spending a lot of time here already).

If you're a regular here, then you'll know where people are posting good quality posts and follow them.

Another suggestion, if you're looking to find more people to merit and kind of 'ease the task' a bit, would be to create your own review thread.
For example, QuestionAuthority has one here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827596.msg28975211#msg28975211

If you also like to lurk Meta there are a lot of posts that are "merituos". You can even find them in forums like Bitcoin & Altcoin Discussion but you need to take the spam shovel there Cheesy

[...]
Every merit source has his or her own standards as to what constitutes a good post.  What you're going to find (if it's not obvious already) is that Newbies and Jr. Members tend to post only for their bounty campaigns, and those posts are invariably lazy, poorly-written, and don't say anything interesting.  My advice would be to NEVER merit posts like that.
[...]
I agree with The Pharmacist here. I would even go a bit further and check the post history and merit only if the post history looks good don't get tricked by one good post Wink
Otherwise, the recent limitations theymos put in (1 merit to be Jr Member) are useless.

P.S. OP, you have unlocked the gates of hell to your PM box. Good luck   Cheesy
85  Other / Meta / Re: List of demoted Jr. Members who were ranked up again on: September 25, 2018, 10:53:12 AM
I predicted this would happen. 1 merit point is too low to fight something like this, I have proposed to use up to 5 points for this.

Another thing which is largely omitted is verifying the bounty campaign managers aka "white listing" or "black listing" them to be able to fight spam more efficiently.
86  Other / Meta / Re: 2 questions (Merit & Spam related). Higher ranked opinion needed. on: September 25, 2018, 10:49:16 AM
1 - Newbie starts a topic - copy/paste content from bitcoin-related article + link (so no plagiarism), no own thoughts nor any other contribution. Is it treated as spam and should it be reported to mods, or is it allowed and we should just ignore it?

2 - Would you reward a Newbie with his 1st merit point, if you see a decent post of his and/or engagement in discussion, but his posting history is, in vast majority, bounty-campaign proof posts? Do you consider such people as spammers, or you just ignore campaign-report posts? After all, they don't pollute the forum and are contained in dedicated threads.
I'm not really a high ranked member so, you can take it as is - a Full Member opinion:

1. I would treat that as spam, Bitcoin & Altcoin Discussions is already full of things like this, we all read the news no need to post it again if you don't have opinions on it.

2. No, I would not award merit for spammers, or users that have their main post history composed of endless bounty quotes, because that means they're not here to learn about bitcoin but just to make money.
87  Other / New forum software / Re: [NEW FEATURE] Seeing a post that quoted your post on: September 25, 2018, 10:42:23 AM
I hope mod must implement this kind of tool
example: https://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/
That's not a bad suggestion maybe you could create a new thread about it.
Let's keep this thread clean and keep the discussion on-topic, which is quoted replies private notifications.
88  Other / Meta / Re: [NEW FEATURE] Night/Dark theme for BCT on: September 25, 2018, 10:37:51 AM
Honestly, I don't know much about SMF themes but I think those that you listed, aren't compatible (made for other versions).
- You might want to update your list with the following compatible (1.1.19) dark themes instead:

I also voted for "YES".
Ok, I wasn't sure of the exact version but thanks a lot for pointing it out to me.

Those themes look great too, I've added them to the main post in this thread.

Thanks a lot for voting, I encourage everyone to vote here Smiley
89  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Activitate si Merit pe forumul Romanesc. Solutii? on: September 24, 2018, 03:58:14 PM
La ce e bun meritul asta?
Aici gasesti mai multe informatii despre asta: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2820019.0
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [CryptoNight] CPU mining guide & coins that will get you a return on: September 24, 2018, 01:52:27 PM
I'm pretty sure that he's just blurt-mentioning that coin like he did in every Mining altcoin and Altcoin discussion threads.
Seriously, he's suggesting it to the members without even knowing its POW algorithm.

Based in this.
I see... No harm done anyways Smiley

Maybe this conversation helped him increase his knowledge about cryptocurrencies in general and Binarium in particular.

BTW, I like your signature Smiley Keep up the good work.
91  Other / Meta / Re: [NEW FEATURE] Night/Dark theme for BCT on: September 24, 2018, 11:06:33 AM
By the way, I almost forgot the vote and just now done it with a YES  Grin
This makes 90% so far Cheesy
Thanks a lot for voting Smiley Hopefully we can have something like this implement as soon as possible.

I would like to see more people voting here, I doubt only 10 people want to see this live.
92  Other / Meta / Re: vlad230's Merit source application - Romanian Local board on: September 24, 2018, 11:03:43 AM
I have received some support messages via PM too, thanks a lot to all of you guys that are supporting me to become a merit source.

I am expecting more support from the Romanian community here, so don't be shy to post here Smiley
93  Other / Meta / Re: Search before creating a new thread on: September 24, 2018, 11:01:15 AM
This a good idea. Maybe this way we could encourage users to search first or at least make them to check the suggested threads before allowing them to post.

That would be a cool and usefull feature, https://stackoverflow.com uses it and even though sometimes is not catching exactly what you want, at least make you think if it's worth openening a new thread or question.
I'm also familiar with what stackoverflow's process of submitting a post and I think it could work here too Smiley
94  Other / Meta / Re: Are Legendary and other higher rank members abusing the Merit System? on: September 24, 2018, 10:46:59 AM
The beginning of the merit system was a bit weird as a lot of people didn't understand exactly what it should be used for (some don't know even today). I bet a lot of people were just playing with them at that point and didn't understand what it's true purpose was.
I even remember someone getting 50 merit for calling the other a "butt hurt idiot" which was simply stupid.

There still are some cases like that and when you see it, you definitely get discouraged.
Take a look at this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5029917.msg45811067#msg45811067 he essentially said nothing but still got 20 merits. There are a lot of 1-2 line replies (that do not bring any value) that are also rewarded with high amounts of merit.
You can find a lot of those here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topreplies , it's a bit sad.

For example, I have created a guide to exchanges where I invested a lot of time into, but was not seen as "important" as other discussions here:  [Guide] Best/Top Crypto Exchanges: Fees & more. I think it also has to do with making your posts visible enough to others but I do get discouraged when I put in the time and don't receive merit.

Please keep in mind that merit is not moderated so, you can talk all you want about the abuses and nothing will happen (other that a negative trust maybe).

I think you should focus on making the best posts you can and not worrying about the "this noise" because it isn't really something you or I can control.

[...]
I know someone may bring this arguement that any individual can give merit according to his/her discretion but the point is Legendary members are not ranking up to any further rank so why dash them that huge number of merits when there are other lower rank members who equally deserve to rank up with some quality post of theirs.
I personally try to avoid meriting Legendary users, not because they don't deserve merit but because they simply don't need them to rank-up. I prefer to award merit to people who actually need it.
95  Other / Meta / Re: @Admins: Images not loading on Bitcointalk. on: September 22, 2018, 05:45:25 PM
I confirm the issue too. If you clear your browsing cached data, you won't see any images embedded in the posts.
It seems like external images are blocked, only images belonging to the forum theme & avatars are displayed, maybe theymos is working on something.

All requests to external images go though ip.bitcointalk.org, I do see the request is successful but nothing is displayed.
For example the request to imgur looks like this: https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FOqgR2om.png&t=593&c=Q7k3k3wRXwAQrg

This is because you have not cleared your browser's cached content.

Try Shift-F5, see if it loads again.
I think you mean CTRL + F5 / CMD + R Smiley

96  Other / Meta / Re: Advertising other forums on: September 22, 2018, 04:36:30 PM
How about forums or projects that are not related to bitcoin/crypto? I thought anyone can advertise anything as long as it's not NSFW  Smiley

PS: Since the audiences here are mostly interested in bitcoin/cryptocurrency so I guess, people will not be interested to advertise something which is not related to cryptocurrency.
Advertising a bitcoin/crypto forum would be a bit "sketchy" since they could grab users from here. I think hilariousandco mentioned them because this is the niche of this forum, of course other forums are welcome to be advertised here.

I remember there was a crypto forum called "ICO forums" that ran a split signature campaign (do some posts there and some here) and it was fine.
97  Other / Meta / Re: Blackmarket for Merit on: September 22, 2018, 04:30:26 PM
That's a new degree of trolling, OP  Cheesy These poor people are desperate for merit points to be able to join bounties and continue spamming.

Seems like having an ICO that is sharing the name of the merit points on BCT can be very beneficial.  Grin
98  Other / Meta / Re: [NEW FEATURE] Night/Dark theme for BCT on: September 22, 2018, 04:23:26 PM

Let's take "+Merit" link as an example. Don't you think if the forum wants to change the theme then areas like this needs extra attention? You can not just install a theme and expect to show the +Merit link.
If you only change the CSS behind it you don't have to worry about that. If you want to change the whole layout then that's going to be a problem, of course, but a minor one Smiley You just need to include the link in the theme files.

Anything is doable but if we start saying "no" to everything and treat it as if it's heart surgery, nothing will get done around here.

Also, a correct evaluation of the issues or priorities can be done by the people working on them. I have added a few solutions to the new feature requirement and asked people to vote if they would like something like that. Until now I see 87% of people would like to see a dark theme here so, the "ball" is in theymos' court.

99  Other / Meta / Re: Search before creating a new thread on: September 22, 2018, 03:40:07 PM
I am wondering that if admins can add an automatic "search" function in the creation process of new thread, it can help to minimize the amount of similar threads.
[...]
Thanks not a bad idea, malikusama. I have seen this feature on a lot of other websites.
I think this could be included in the new forum software (beta.bitcointalk.com) features proposals.

People can use Google Search.
Most answers on my question I found using Google and it shows me many threads on bitcointalk.
People are lazy to do that
I'm also using Google search because it's faster than searching the forum. The down side is that it take a few days for the google bot to crawl new pages created here so you might not see all of the posts (especially the new ones) in your search.
100  Other / New forum software / Re: [NEW FEATURE] Seeing a post that quoted your post on: September 22, 2018, 02:40:53 PM
@vlad230
You can actually use the notification bot made by Piggy so every time someone has mentioned your name or quoted your post you get notification Smiley
Yeah, I know. It was recently implemented but it would be nicer if you can just go to a place where all your quoted posts are located and are private.

From what I can see the post you create in Off-topic is going to be public, right?
Not to mention that I have visited that thread multiple times and the status is DOWN.
