Now there are a lot of analytical articles about the fact that NEM will become a real competitor for ETH. I think that makes sense. In a few years NEM will become a very strong platform if the project will also develop rapidly and sign contracts with well-known companies.

As one who's actually attempted to *use* the ETH platform, I can tell you NEM is much easier. It won't be long before others catch on. ETH seems to have better name recognition at this point, but NEM is starting to catch up on that too.
Thats probably why venezuela decided to go with NEM lol Cheesy

A fact that everyone ought to be ashamed of, not celebrating.

I dont care who uses NEM, whether or not it be China, North Korea or Russia, the NEM platform is available for everyone to use free of any censorship.

Slipping to 12th on CMC now, not great. Thinking about reallocating some of my NEM...not sure where though.

The lack of marketing here is getting to be very frustrating.

What lack of marketing?

Meetups are currently held globally on a regular basis.
Even in New Zealand we have meetups across the country, I have not seen any such meetups held in my town for any other competition.

That stupid exchange hack couldn't have come at a worse time.
It seems like confidence in nem is at an all time low with an absolutely pathetic trade volume of 22 million. that's awful. There's coins ranked below 200 with that kind of volume.

I'm thinking we missed the boat with that last meteoric rise. There will be no wechat news or anything else to bump us up back to that level again. Barring some kind of major announcement/change we run a very real risk of slipping down into those 3bn marketcap coins, somewhere down past the 15s or 20s.

the volume is always low for NEM nothing to worry about. And you have to think about the Exchanges dealing with the stolen coins so quite normal right now I think.

It´s just getting some traction. The Exchange should soon launch and catapult will be a game changer.  More than happy with NEM right now.

Coincheck hack was a setback.  Hard to really know how that affected XEM's favor in Japan, may have turned lots of people off from NEM.

Either way, IMO this will be temporary as the NEM platform is still solid and interest will continue to grow in 2018.

I dont think it had much impact at all, as XEM went back to $1 the next day.
All markets have since crashed, and has nothing to do with the coincheck hack.

There is no incentive to sell NEM since none is mined, however marketing is happening on a global scale with regular meetups being held in many centres.
NEM is aiming for global expansion, just remember that.

Im amazed how fast it has grown in the last 12 months TBH.

Hi. Im hoping that the price would be stable . NEM platform would be in full swing and should dapps adapt its platform, and this would drive developers swoop down and use it.

I think that this token has a bright future.

I mean I think so too, but this is all rather generic.

The question is why NEM just hasn’t received anywhere near as much hype of late as projects such as Stellar, NEO, etc. The retort from the NEM community has been that this coin isn’t about marketing, it’s about product. But we haven’t seen much evidence of product so far with things such as Catapult seeming to be a mirage thus far. I certainly believe in the tech and have been HODLing a large stake for a long tome, but I’m getting somewhat antsy. Some engagement from the community would be nice.

My experience is that although devs do pop in here from time to time, most of them are much more active on the various Telegram channels about NEM. If you want more direct contact with founders and developers you will need to join the Telegram channels.

yes I agree, most of the actitivy is now on telegram, i suggest you join the channels to learn more.
We now have Lon Wong visiting Dubai right now in talks with Government officials, lots is happening behind the scenes. Smiley

Since when have yobit cared about anyone or anything? It'll be quite amusing if they are nailed to the wall for this. They sound like scum.

looks like Yobit have since ceased XEM deposits, about time, they probably saw the news and realised they will be in deep S#*t if they continue trading the stolen XEM.

If I were a smart criminal, I would have created a fake / scene exchange, just to cover the massive one-time coin laundry.
And when that occurs, the exchange itself could be sacrificed. The anonymous exchange owner can disappear to the 7th bit heaven.

The hacker has already started a fake XEM exchange on a TOR site with an .onion address.
Does not appear much XEM was sold there, but anyone that buys XEM there will receive XEM marked as stolen.
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM vs ETH on: February 06, 2018, 07:38:12 AM
As far as I remember, the project of NEM in the past year was news that they are very seriously planning to deploy a large marketing program to popularize the NEF plumble. But all the same while I choose ETHER  Grin

Now after the situation that happened to NEM (I mean hacking), Ethereum has the stronger positions. It will be supported by more people, who deal with the virtual currency. Meanwhile, I would also hold NEM in my wallet.

Explain why the hack is a big deal? Any exchange can be hacked, Ethereums solution was to simply fork the chain, not ideal.

Meanwhile all stolen funds are being tracked and traced.

If Catapult was ready tomorrow, they should hold it back. This would be the worst possible time to release it and would be a non-event. The fact is if bitcoin doesn't mount a recovery (over 10k would do), the whole crypto scene will be in the doghouse for another year at least.

There's no way they'd hold it off for months purely to excite traders. That's never been how they drop things. It'll happen when it's ready and not before or after.

I agree, besides if catapult gets released in the middle of this bear market it will show that NEM has serious fundamentals and will give us an early boost before the bulls get going again.
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 05, 2018, 11:41:07 PM
So when is Catapult going to be released (for public). It's been over a year now. Before 4k tps seems a lot, but now you hear 1 million tps  Grin i think NEM missed that boat. I'm still a believer, but having that hack is a sh***y PR that is not needed. We need catapult now. We hear NDA's are signed so no one can talk about what is being tested (i totally understand), Just curious to know how many company's signed NDA's, I want to know if there are actually a lot of companies trying out NEM Tech.

I don't think it will matter one bit with the market the way it is right now.
With btc dragging everything down NEM could announce some major partnership and it wouldn't amount to anything because of the overall market being in the toilet.

Best to wait until things improve and hopefully they can capitalize on the rebound.

Yes the tide right now isn’t good. Endless regulatatory headlines.

Amazing how the government won’t provide healthcare, education, basic services-you’re on your own for that but suddenly they want to “protect” you in crypto.

I really don’t mind a selloff if it’s a healthy correction but my obvious worry is that after a pounding of this magnitude things may not recover for a long time (twice bitten etc etc). What does everyone think?

I think you might be right about the prices being depressed for a while, which I guess is depressing LOL. The problem with the last price spike may have been that it happened too quickly, and I hear about people mortgaging their properties and such to get in, which is always bad news, the classic signs of a bubble. When price goes up fast, it can fall just as quickly.

I'd like to see a recovery, and if you follow the NEM News telegram channel, for every bit of bad news, there's five or six good news items so NEM really is continuing to truck along, so I have no doubt a price recovery is in the future. I'd just like to see it happen more slowly. A nice, steady increase of one or two cents a day, with long periods of the price staying the same, would be perfect for me. That gives people lots of chances to buy in, and those who need to sell for any reason can count on getting a decent deal. That's what you want in a coin. Stability with a general trend upwards.

To really get there, I think we're going to need to see some XEM/fiat direct markets open up. As long as any coin has to go through Bitcoin, then it's going to be stuck rising and falling with Bitcoin, and that really stinks, to be honest.

Bitcoin may have been a bubble, but its only the noobs who start investing that get burnt.
Meanwhile alternatives to Bitcoin such as NEM have far greater potential and more room for growth than Bitcoin.
Biggest problem was Bitcoin was getting most of the media attention and when Bitcoin crashes, it brings everything else down with it.
Cryptocurrency and blockchain are gaining much more media attention in recent weeks which is good as we dont want everyone putting all their money into Bitcoin alone, its wise to diversify their investments.

At this point a crop of ICOs taking XEM is not necessarily good news. The XEM market is far too thin to support more than a handful. If it ever got to ETH's ICO mania you'd better pray for 50x the volume or the entire thing would be squashed flatter than a micron.

If we had a pile of ICO's it would in turn cause volume to rise as more people buy XEM to participate in ICO's.

Not that im a big fan of ICO's largely we have avoided alot, but more are starting to move over to NEM.

do know what happened to huge amount stolen from coincheck xem? are the stolen coin addresses available? Have the coins already been dropped on exchanges?

All funds are traceable and NEM foundation is marking all accounts with the stolen funds.
only about 1100 XEM has been moved around AFAIK, and no XEM has been moved to any exchanges yet.

I think the thieves will have a very difficult time cashing out. Five percent of the entire NEM supply has been effectively taken out of circulation. I mean, it can technically "circulate," but it's tainted.

My guess is the exchange and hacker will reach some kind of settlement with regards to this stolen NEM. Seems like an impasse at the moment, but perhaps there are talks going on that aren't public already.

Very possible, that sort of thing would not be disclosed at this time.
Yeah. And for the people new to crypto-land, the precedence here was set by NXT when a hacker stole a bunch from BTER. https://www.ccn.com/fifty-million-nxt-stolen-bter-cryptocurrency-exchange-ransomed-hacker/. They seem to have negotiated a fee of 100 BTC and the hacker returned the NXT to the exchange. It is possible that a similar scenario might unfold here. It would seem to be in everyone's best interest if such a thing happens though - the hacker can get some reward (call is a 'security bounty') and the exchange gets its crypto back.

Really depends on if its an inside job or not i guess?

I suspect someone inside the company may have had access.
Still blows me away that they kept that much funds in one hot wallet.
At least 300M XEM was theirs that they bought in 2016 also. Dunno why that even needed to be in the same wallet.

Since of jobs reasons I have not been able to follow all the news and developments of NEM over the last weeks. The price has dropped a lot along with many other coins. Why can't NEM stay stable against the trend? There are good news and NEM is a good alternative to the problematic traits of Ethereum.

mate, just relax, all markets are down, last year we hit 30c and got dumped like the rest back to 9c.

Lots of good news on crypto, just lots of FUD along with it.

Korea claims no crypto ban is happening, so good news.  Smiley

Not fun being a crypto investor these days. When does the ship turn and we’re back in a hull market?

Any clue why there’s been such relentless selling flow the last few weeks?

Just FUD by people wanting to buy cheap, first korea, then coincheck and now tether.
Wait until the dust settles and buy back cheap Smiley

Tokyo-based cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck said today it would return about 46.3 billion yen ($425 million) of the virtual money it lost to hackers two days ago in one of the biggest-ever thefts of digital money.
That amounts to nearly 90% of the 58 billion yen worth of NEM coins the company lost in an attack that forced it to suspend on Friday withdrawals of all cryptocurrencies except bitcoin.
Coincheck said in a statement it would repay the roughly 260,000 owners of NEM coins in Japanese yen, though it was still working on timing and method.

It's kind of crazy that an exchange has so much money to pay back a theft like this..

I hope that money comes from early holdings of the owners and not trading fees, otherwise it goes to show how much these players are making (and even worse, how this was not invested into improving security).

I honestly dont know how they found the funds, but in saying that, a huge percentage (at least 300M XEM) is theirs.
Perhaps the amount of XEM held by the members was alot less than we think?
