By reading your posts, I think what you are looking for is book about stock analysis*. If you are using Bitcoin/altcoins as just stocks, I recommend you to first study about stock marketing and then invest. Even understanding basics maybe time consuming, but if stock marketing is worth for you, then time spent will be worth too! Don't go for immediate gains just to loose everything later. Once you have studied stock marketing, next thing is to know which cryptocurrency should you invest. Altcoins value can be calculated by seeing who's behind it and what it offers. Compare stocks/altcoins to a product and when you buy a product, you will consider
  • what is it?
  • why buy it?
  • what does it offer?
  • what makes it better than its contemporaries?
  • how and where to buy it?
  • who's behind it?
  • easy and cheap way to buy it.

Take your time and decide which to invest *carefully*. TBH, I am not an expert in stock marketing. So I can only answer some basic questions.

by the way, is this format specific to any client or is it like the suggested format to make everything look similar?

Quoted,

When i signed my message using mycellium it was a different format, so guessing it's clients specific?

There is no official format. At first [1], when signing messages, there wasn't any format. You will have to copy-paste(/type) address, message and signature separately. Later on, people started using PGP format, RFC2440 [2], for Bitcoin signed messages [3][4][5]. I think Electrum still uses old Bitcoin-Qt format, that is, no format.

Question about 'sweeping' (import)

After you sweep the private keys of lets say a paper wallet to a desktop wallet like Bitcoin Core or Electrum, what happens? I have read that the balance on the paper wallet gets deducted to zero with fee and transferred to the desktop wallet,

Different between import and sweep is, former imports your private key to your wallet and it will be there until/unless you remove it. "Sweep" sends all bitcoins in the address associated to given private key to one of the addresses in your existing wallet. It does *not* store your private keys in your wallet and that means, if you want to send funds from it again, if any, you will have to import it which will store your private key in your wallet forever or sweep it if you want to move funds to your wallet.

Normally, if you want to send Bitcoin from an address which is not in your wallet, you have to import private key to your wallet, create transaction, sign it and then send/broadcast it. With "sweeping", Bitcoin in given address is send to one of the addresses in your wallet. You can select which address you want to receive it or it will send to your current "receiving" address.

Import  =  Store your private key
Sweep  =  Does *not* store your private key

If you want to send Bitcoin from a paper wallet to an address NOT in your wallet, "sweeping" is NOT the option to choose.

so does the private keys of the new desktop wallet gets changed?

Thanks!

Sweep  =  No
Import  =  No

When importing, your private key is stored *along* with your existing wallet. No changes will be made to your existing wallet.

That is sad to hear that such a beneficial person faced such type of issue from them. They have to give a chance to the members to clarify the case before closing their accounts as they sometimes can be on mistake. I am sure that someone will have sent you the funds from their gambling wallet and because of that coinbase closed your account.
If they would come to you before closing your account then it would not be hard for you to show them the proof of your trade with others that others often send funds to you.

If you are doing a *legal* business, you need to inform them *prior* to account closure. If your business isn't legal and you get lots of bitcoins from others especially funds related to sites they have blacklisted such as gambling sites, your account will be closed and your funds can even be freezed depending on the source of your Bitcoin. Without a well-defined business, sending information about it to Coinbase and other exchanges*, won't do much help because it can easily forged.

* Terms and conditions can vary according to countries. Read them before using exchanges or online wallets, in fact, any sites at all!

-snip-

Excellent, thank you very much for this gold information and instructions. I knew there was a way but its quite advanced and it will take me a while to study them though!
So from what I understand I can convert my blockchain.nfo 12 word passphrase in to a seed or private keys by using the bip39...right?

12 words you get from blockchain.info is BIP39 seed.

You can also restore your blockchain.info wallet using/into other wallets with corresponding seed.

-snip-

Or, you could just import the BIP39 seed onto any supporting desktop wallet clients. For instance, copay. Though instead of "import from backup" you'd have to go to create a new wallet, and specify the recovery seed.

i have tried this before, generate a new wallet on blockchain.info, write down the walet recovery seed, and if you ever lose access to your wallet then you could either do it the hard way, go through all the derivation paths etc. or just import it into any supporting bitcoin wallet.

So yes, you can indeed access your coin without having access to the site, as long as you have the correct recovery seed.

Also see my post, second post above yours
87  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info online wallet on: July 01, 2017, 02:24:51 PM
According to my experience with blockchain.info . It is a safe online wallet if you will save your password and your 12 words provided from them for the recovery of your account while if you lose them then no one will be able to recover your wallet.

Your wallet's seed(12 words) is enough to recover your wallet.

In this case better is that you join any other online wallet.

All wallets, regardless of online, offline or hardware, you need a backup. Once lost, you won't be able to recover your Bitcoin. Besides, there aren't any other online wallets which allow us to access private keys.

For long term storage never ever use online wallet and no one know about their mood and their future.
And in the last as everyone said you will never access to your bitcoin in the time when they go down and any site often face that issue so try to keep some of your funds in any other wallet too as you may need them in any emergency

Really now? Did you really read this thread? We all said you can recover Bitcoin even if blockchain.info goes down. Even the post just above yours mentioned recovering wallet is possible. Sigh...

It also happens to me when I view watchlist, when using "report to moderator" function and when viewing trust. Wither error comes or it loads much slower than other pages. When clicking "Report to moderator", sometimes page opens, sometimes don't. But most of the times, error comes or it will load much slower than other pages, when I submit a report.
90  Other / Meta / Re: BAN ALL SIG CAMPAIGNS on: July 01, 2017, 12:34:51 PM
Signature campaigns is the source of income in most users in this forum and this campaigns is the reason why the forum is active also the forum is making money with this campaign and good traffic for the site to rank up. So why take it away when it's also doing so much good for the site and it's users, sig campaigns was meant to adverstise the owners site or product, good and services. It is the spammers and sold accounts should be banned not this campaigns.

If you want to remove weeds, you must cut off their roots. Like hilariousandco and few other mentioned, as long as managers are doing their work by banning spammers from their campaign, spam can be reduced by a large margin.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that if a Ledger is manipulated then the application that you have to run on the PC will detect it

  -snip-
That wouldn't be possible. Both Trezor and Ledger have security measures to avoid the attempt of installing malwares in your hardware wallet. See above:

How to verify the security integrity of my Nano S?

On the hardware side, if you want to check that the Nano S has not been tampered with, or the applications running are the official apps, here are a few things that you might need to know:

1) The Secure Element checks the full microcontroller flash at boot (this is described in our blog post). If it has been modified, you'll get a warning at boot. As an additional check, you can open the device to verify that no additional chip has been added (referring to the attached picture) and that the MCU is an stm2f042k6 (with 32 Kb flash, as a bigger flash could contain code fooling the Secure Element validation). Markings on the chip can vary but you should see the string "042K6".

2) The Secure Element itself is personalized at factory with an attestation proving that it has been created by us. You can verify it by running

pip install --no-cache-dir ledgerblue

python -m ledgerblue.checkGenuine --targetId 0x31100002

The source code is available here: https://github.com/LedgerHQ/blue-loader-python/blob/master/ledgerblue/checkGenuine.py

3) Each individual application will display a "Non Genuine" warning if not signed when opened. A modified User Interface (as found in https://github.com/LedgerHQ/nanos-ui) will also display a warning message on boot.

4) The root of trust for the current batch is the following secp256k1 public key : 0490f5c9d15a0134bb019d2afd0bf297149738459706e7ac5be4abc350a1f818057224fce12ec9a 65de18ec34d6e8c24db927835ea1692b14c32e9836a75dad609 - as checked in checkGenuine.py https://github.com/LedgerHQ/blue-loader-python/blob/master/ledgerblue/checkGenuine.py#L72

92  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info blocking accounts? on: July 01, 2017, 10:49:48 AM
No. They really don't care about who you are.
Exchanges only require you to verify your identity because they're required to follow laws that apply to national currencies.
-snip-

Blockchain.info is just a wallet, that doesn't control your private-keys and don't offer you the service of exchanging between USD and Bitcoin. So you and all other users will probably be fine.
No, there are no more just a wallet service provider.
They have started exchanging services too. Now we can buy bitcoins using blockchain.info. https://blockchain.info/wallet/how-to-get-bitcoins

I guess new version of blockchain.info is not letting us accessing private key which may in support of blocking accounts and demanding documents ?

They do allow us to access our private keys and seed.
93  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info online wallet on: July 01, 2017, 10:37:53 AM
Must be the answer I have been looking for. One noob question here : How a seed will be related to all the address which were created afterwards within blockchain.info wallet. (I am aware of some encrypted one private-key format produced 3 to 4 bitcoin addresses) hierarchical deterministic works this way ?

I didn't understand the bolded part. Please explain or give an example!

If you don't understand what is a HD wallet, please read http://support.mycelium.com/hc/en-us/articles/207045475-What-does-HD-in-HD-Wallet-mean, http://www.fintechblue.com/2016/03/what-is-an-hd-wallet/ and https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/a/21200.

tl;dr - all your keys can be generated from your seed.

And two more : blockchain.info's previous version seed also into BIP39 compatibility ?

If you are talking about passphrase, then no! It is *not* BIP39 seed.

I have not tried copay, do we have any other wallets with support of BIP39 seeds ?

Mycelium, Bither, Schildbach's wallet and many other. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1000544.0 (might be outdated).

Edit: Please note that although many wallets support BIP39 seed, wallets may not be compatible with each other. Because there is paths when generating keys which is usually called key derivation path. Some wallets use key derivation path different from other wallets. However, most (popular) wallets support recovering wallets even if they use different key path.

It is safe blockchain . Actually i am using it and i am planning to open more wallets . But i think that is a cloud wallet and if they are losing their servers burning etc , practically our money are done

Did you even *read* this thread? Undecided

Also i got some problems with blockchain last time , they have diminished the mining fee and my transactions were stuck 8 days . I tried to push my transactions , i sent to support mails but no help , and i had to wait 8 days for a confirmation . So sometimes is good sometimes is bad.....

You set a fee yourself in Blockchain.info iiirc. Using an excessively low fee may make result transaction not to be included in a block or may take a long time to get included. Alternatively, using an excessively high fee would only be you wasting your Bitcoin. You can do it If you want to "tip" miners a bigger amount. https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#24h
94  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer - mixing reinvented on: July 01, 2017, 10:12:09 AM
  -snip-

I have still have one thing which I still cannot figure out, please enlighten me. Smiley When you deposit into an address, the chips are claimed to be already credited in the account via different sizes of chips, and how is this done so? It says that it the amount would already be there, so your deposit have no connection with the mixer chips. How does this work?

Okay, so what happens is chipmixer gets previous user funds, sends them as different outputs(0.001 BTC, 0.002 BTC etc.) to addresses to fund individual "chips". This way, your privacy is guaranteed as the coin comes from a pool of user funds, and it is definitely not your coin because it is done before the whole mixing process starts. Then when you deposit you'll get aforementioned chips that add up to the value of your deposit. Simple as that, yet very secure and private.

Assuming chips in ChipMixer as "poker chips"(chips in casinos) may make understanding them easier.

No.

From https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet:

Quote
The original Bitcoin client stores private key information in a file named wallet.dat following the so called "bitkeys" format.
It contains:
  • keypairs for each of your addresses
  • transactions done from/to your addresses user preferences
  • default key
  • reserve keys
  • accounts
  • a version number
  • Key pool
  • Since 0.3.21: information about the current best chain,
to be able to rescan automatically when restoring from a backup.

Can anyone advise me on how I can send the bitcoins from my wallet generated by bitaddress.org ?

I have been reading online for a few hours now and cannot find any recommended way of doing this.

Sending the coin anonymously would be preferred if possible.

Thanks in advance

Use Electrum, Mycelium or any other Bitcoin wallet which can import a Bitcoin address.

I got this e-mail from coinbase 30 minutes back.

I was successfully able to transfer BTC out to other wallet but they closed my account for no reason and don't think they're going to tell me the reason behind it too.
I was using them since September 2015 and all of a sudden today they closed me down.
You're lucky you got to withdraw whatever you had. This is not the case with other accounts which are closed without a warning.

You can withdraw funds from closed accounts. Coinbase withholding your funds are rare.

PS: Due to this account closure, I had to change my profile wallet address also.
I suggest you to stake a new address ,maybe make a thread to let your customers know the new address they should be dealing with.

He already did. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg19862956#msg19862956
99  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Are my coins in Electrum safe with my current set up? on: June 30, 2017, 09:43:09 PM
"One other idea while you wait for your ledger.  You can copy the MPK from your seeded wallet and create a watching only wallet for use on the online computer.  Just save and hide the seeded Electrum wallet and ONLY use the watching only wallet to view your coins.  There is no private key/SEED in a watching only wallet.  Malware cannot steal coins from a wallet without private keys or SEED present."

This is what I would like to do, but I am so technologically illiterate, I am afraid that I will mess everything up during set up.

I just wanted to move coin off any exchange and into a safe spot.

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/coldstorage.html

You can create a normal wallet in a another secure computer or closed environment such as liveUSB without persistence. Backup your seed and xPub. See above link for steps. You must backup your seed before shutting down if live USB without persistence is used. Otherwise, that wallet will be lost forever and you will have to create a new wallet.
100  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Coinbin balance dissapeared, blockchain says there is a balance?! on: June 30, 2017, 09:33:52 PM
When you tried to check your balace earlier, it probably couldn't connect to server. Check if it is configured properly or if outgoing connection is blocked for all or if it is just for coinbin.

I advice you against inputting private key or seed in websites. It is very risky and you could lose your Bitcoin.

Is coinbin you are saying actually http://coinb.in? if not, can you post link to that wallet here?
