801  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining is dead now. on: July 01, 2013, 12:55:01 AM
Doesn't take into account future price rise of BTC. If they are worth $500 in a years time then is your hardware still profitable? By the way $0.087 /kWh is low, it's $0.28+ where I live...

If they are worth $500 why bother investing in GPUs and not buy BTCs?

Not all of us area able to put mass amount of instant cash into hopes and dreams. A small amount of electricity cost is a lot easier to cope with. haha

But if you put the same $ for electricity into buying BTC, you are supporting the BTC economy instead of the local utility.  It is more likely the price will rise under that scenario.  If you make a profit, that is another story, but at break even you really should not be doing it that way.
802  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Experimenting with Jalapeno firmware... on: July 01, 2013, 12:30:39 AM
Flashed successfully and running close to 9GH/s

Now I'm selling my AVR Dragon programmer if anybody wants it. Just PM me to make an offer.

you need to keep it and later on you might need to programmer it again.

ps:Avr Dragon at Digi-key sold out both the US and Canada

I have two brand new ones.  Well by the end of the day tomorrow I will at least.  USA east coast here.

$79  plus shipping in BTC.  These do not come with the 10 pin cable as that is not included from the factory.
803  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why are people cheering that ASICMINER will bring 800-1000TH online this year? on: July 01, 2013, 12:23:27 AM
Well, you are free to buy stocks in ASICMiner if you do think they'll continue to do as well as they have.  So it's fair enough in that sense.

I am more worried that they will kill the price of BTC.  When mining is distributed, more of the miners keep the BTC or maybe spend it (I am a seller so I do have bias).  I do not see ASICminer spending BTC of things in the community, it could happen but it is not what they are set up to do.

Basically ASICminer is a drain on the community.  This does not mean they are doing anything wrong or should be stopped, it is just in most small miners interest not to support them.   You buy a USB stick from them, you allow them to put up an equal (or greater) amount of hash power to balance out their share of the network.   Certainly they can put up a lot more hash power with $100 then they are selling for $100.  Same goes with blade sales.  Also so far, most buyers from ASICminer simply paid too much for the product.
804  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining is dead now. on: July 01, 2013, 12:17:46 AM
If your machines are not efficient or your power is over 15 cents a kwh it is probably best to stop and sell the gear now.  You might be making a small profit but you are putting wear on items you could sell now.  If you think BTC is going to rise, sell the gear and buy BTC.
805  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Free Market Policing in Detroit on: June 30, 2013, 10:46:36 PM
Interesting to read, but would be better with more facts than stories. Perhaps crime statistics in the past decade?
Also I am sure this doesn't always work. Cities like New York have been able to reduce crime significantly by the involvement of the government
exactly. Nothing backs it up or why it is actually better (or worse).   Detroit has very high crime, so I can imagine there is low hanging fruit for crime reduction.   The article lacks real information.
806  Other / Politics & Society / Re: California man faces 13 years in jail for scribbling anti-bank messages in chalk on: June 29, 2013, 01:39:23 PM
I dont care who disagrees if it can be simply hosed off its not vandalism!

A) it can be hosed off
b) it is political speech
c) no libel
d) gross overcharging by the prosecutor

For those reasons it should be ignored.  By the letter of the law it is vandalism .  I have a HUGE problem with the jury being given instructions on the first amendment that are improper.  This is one for jury nullification if there ever was one.
807  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Experimenting with Jalapeno firmware... on: June 28, 2013, 06:43:41 PM
Do they get lifetime warranty?
Maybe not after you mod the firmware and push it hard.  They certainly would not be required to do so.

I imagine when these break because of overclocking they will have a pretty similar characteristic.  So if you are doing this, know what you are doing, don't go crazy, and you MUST upgrade the cooling.  This includes all parts further stressed by more heat, not just the ASIC chips themselves.

809  Economy / Speculation / Re: ASIC: Bitcoin's Long term insurance on: June 28, 2013, 11:11:04 AM
I am sure in the beginning ASICS will have a positive impact on bitcoin it will secure the network etc., but in the long term it will be very difficult for small miners to be profitable.

The whole mining business will be more professional and in the worst case in the hand of a few players that can afford huge data/mining centers.

Though you cannot stop progress and I am happy how far we already came !
The ASIC consolidation is the reason for the price drop.  I am not anti-asic though, I realize you can not undo this once it has started.   ASIC consolidation would not have been such a large problem had BFL shipped all of the orders by now, but since they have not there are now one or two large ASIC players that basically mine and sell (cash in).

Individual miners with one or two rigs usually mine and hold or mine and spend but do not cash in.  These miners are more likely to support the BTC economy then a large player.
810  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: The Impending Stalemate on Mining Hardware and ROI on: June 26, 2013, 04:11:00 PM
Mining difficulty will increase exponentially.

The hardware necessary to mine it substantially, already costs upwards of $22,000 USD.

That price, this early in the game.

For such insane "power" that I dare say it pushes the limits of our technology already.

You will need stronger, faster, better machines just to mine a few coins after that.

What if the price of Bitcoin stays at around $100 ... yet the difficulty skyrockets?

Difficulty will continue to rise, and people may hate that, but it is certainly not exponential.  The percentage rate of increase is actually less this week then last.  Once it gets to double what it is now, the increase will slow down even further.

This should tell someone, don't invest in mining equipment with price ratios that would be unprofitable in two months of expected increases.  People do not often listen to this advice.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bring the price of Bitcoins up with Publicity - Bumper Stickers? on: June 26, 2013, 02:26:39 AM
this guy is selling a ton......

I will have to post on coingig finally if he is selling considering his 3" round BTC log is $3.75 and mine is 49 cents.  Smiley

812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you considered class action law suit against Avalon for pre-sale mining? on: June 26, 2013, 01:17:50 AM
Lawsuits in China are not lawsuits in the USA.  You could win but very doubtful. Avalon has no US presence so you would have to do it entirely in China.   Right or wrong it's not gonna happen.
813  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lost my faith on: June 25, 2013, 10:44:51 PM
>no reasons given

I believe central banks will buy bitcoin and therefore control it's destiny.

This would fail and be hugely beneficial to most current bitcoin holders.
814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bring the price of Bitcions up with Publicity - Bumper Stickers? on: June 25, 2013, 10:43:29 PM
Yes, I do take BTC as payment.  Finish checkout and you will see.  There is no other option other then Bitcoin.

Any word on when you'll have the Black sticker in stock?

I have 30 now.  I will be getting another large group in two weeks.
815  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who else is fed up with the core development team? on: June 25, 2013, 10:40:33 PM
They are hurting the community. So apparently a DDOS cause by old Satoshi written code, that could be used to do a DDOS attack. So yeah when do they do testing? I am guessing never, it sounds like this should have been tested and fixed a longgggggggg time ago. And they all think they deserved to get paid? I have yet to see a worthy thing of them getting paid. I guess taking interviews, and slamming companies just takes up that testing time.

We need a new development team, one that has the morals of not getting paid and being greedy.

I know this is going to get me a lot more ignores, but someone has to say it, and if it is me, the so be it. I think they are disgrace to the community. I hope the foundation gets shutdown, and sued for every single penny they have.

I think the core dev team is doing a good job.

How do you do that copper electroplating?

Hover over the pics, each step is explained.  It is quite a labor intensive process.  There may be other sites on the net with better explanations.
818  Economy / Goods / Re: Where can I find apparel for bitcoin? on: June 24, 2013, 04:16:53 AM
I have about 10 designs of shirts from $9 to $29 plus about 7 different sticker types. Most items are in stock, not just printed on demand by something like Cafepress.  Low 99 cent USA shipping.  Obviously payable in BTC at the end of the checkout process.

Nice Idea.

Thanks.  Sold a few but not nearly as fast as my Bitcoin stuff.  I will take LTC for products as well, and now that LTC has gone up things are looking better.
