Is there anything from this list that you might be interested in?

A look at YouTipIt might spur some ideas as well.
8202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I buy bitcoins with paypal now? on: July 21, 2011, 03:13:22 AM
I googled it, and someone said a site called coinpal, but apparently they're shut down. The only other one I found was one that you needed to buy second life currency first, butttttttttt I don't play second life. Any other options?

There regularly are some very brave souls on #bitcoin-otc who will accept as payment your PayPal payment for their bitcoins.

  - http//en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Secure_Trading#Use_Bitcoin-OTC

Additionally, if you are purchasing a small number of bitcoins, YouTipIt is selling bitcoins through a credit card processing site:
The problem is that those coins essentially are quarantined for a number of weeks -- i.e., they can only be used within the site (for tipping others.  After the holding period has passed, then you can withdraw your bitcoins to your own wallet.

My question is should I use the same wallet on both mining machines?

Short answer: no
Honest answser: If you really know what you are doing or don't care that you might lose coins, go right ahead.

There is now a WMZ exchanger:

8205  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: New, simple online wallet: www.instawallet.org - no signup required on: July 20, 2011, 09:20:35 AM
develops. Maybe other services/solutions will make Instwallet obsolete, maybe I'll find a way to finance it that I'm happy with or maybe it will just run on donations.

I wonder if offering a white-label version would be a revenue source.  For instance, a retail merchant might wish to run some promotion where given away are scratch-off tickets each with InstaWallet URLs or something to that effect.    For that, the merchant might want their own branded instawallet site.  And, of course, they'ld need (and be paying for) enterprise-level service (i.e., able to serve adequately the expected load).

Also, I wonder if there isn't a revenue opportunity to integrate some spend for balances in an instawallet.  For instance, exchanges are looking to add customers.  Any instawallet with 1 BTC or more is a good candidate to offer an account at an exchange (and InstaWallet gets commission for each user who signs up).

I've not used BitPay yet but I suspect once I do I'll be willing to pay a monthly fee to have an instawallet + BitPay combination.  Especially if it will be in exchange for a service level commitment.

A few more days, at best.

Euro Transfers Temporarily Frozen

Adam posted this on Jul-19 20:13

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver some bad news. We just got off the phone with our newly assigned bank (SG) in France and it appears the branch we have assigned cannot authorize our account until they deliberate with their “Higher Ups”. This is due to the sheer amount of funds we expect to be processing, along with the fact that bitcoin is fringe and has ambiguity associated with it that banks don’t currently understand. We were fully expecting to announce to all that our European bank accounts are now up and ready to start processing funds, however we have been advised that we will not hear back from SG until Thursday July 21.

Euro transfers (both deposits and withdrawals) are effectively frozen, however we’re going to look at other means of enabling Euro transfers in the mean time. So please bear with us as we work to get this up and running as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience, we hope to come back with some good news soon.

8207  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Free Exchange Advantageous to Miners and Buyers on: July 19, 2011, 12:50:12 PM
One thing that might be useful is to be able to instantly transfer coins from one of your exchanges to another.

For example, if I have BTC in the Intersango.us but I see an arbitrage opportunity where I would like to sell those BTC on Britcoin, it would be nice if that transfer could occur instantaneously, rather than having to wait for funds to confirmation.

If all three are operated by the same organization then that should be zero risk.
8208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin going to change its inflation algorithm? on: July 19, 2011, 11:43:54 AM
the change described in the above paragraph may be a hard sell

I edited the wiki to explain how such a revision could technically be possible but why realistically it likely would not occur.

8210  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dwolla fisync participating banks? on: July 19, 2011, 10:56:50 AM
Does anybody have a list of banks participating in Dwolla's fisync service allowing instant interactivity between your Dwolla and bank accounts?

The one that just launched is the first -- so it is a short list.

There will be more coming though they haven't stated which banks or credit unions and when.
8211  Bitcoin / Legal / FinCEN's new Definition of Money Services Businesses on: July 19, 2011, 10:30:26 AM
I tried to decipher yesterday's FinCEN ruling on the Definition of Money Services Businesses as far as how it impacts Bitcoin but I'm stumped.

FinCEN ruling statement:

Final ruling:

There are a few changes of interest.

1.) "The Prepaid Access NPRM addresses stored value issues as a separate category of MSB.
FinCEN is excluding stored value in any form from being considered a form of money transmission."

I've not read the Prepaid Access NPRM, but this appears to be a positive by excluding a stored value transaction as being considered a money transmission.

2.)  The term "dealer in foreign exchange" is replaced with the new term "currency dealer or exchanger," a term used to include the exchange of instruments other than currency as a category of MSB.

I don't think bitcoin is affected by this as bitcoin could hardly be "similar to" the monetary instruments it refers to.

3.) U.S. AML regulations apply to foreign-located persons who offer MSB services in the U.S. from foreign locations.

Did the long arm of the law just get longer?

Quote
An entity qualifies as an MSB based on its activity within the United States, not the physical presence of one or more of its agents, agencies, branches, or offices in the United States.

This requirement arose out of the recognition that the Internet and other technological advances make it increasingly possible for persons to offer MSB services in the United States from foreign locations.

FinCEN seeks to ensure that the BSA rules apply to all persons engaging in covered activities within the United States, regardless of their physical location.

4.) It is the activities performed that cause a person to be categorized as an MSB subject to anti-money laundering rules [and not necessarily] whether the person is licensed as a business, has employees, or is engaged in a for-profit venture.

Taken to the extreme, this would mean every miner selling bitcoins and every bitcoin buyer and seller would be in violation unless registered as an MSB.  Again, if bitcoins are stored value and they are exempted then this is moot.

FinCEN extends Prepaid Access NPRM (Stored Value) comment period 30 days:

Prepaid Access regulation (proposed):

This topic needs more eyes.
8212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CampBX Launch - Free Trades for All Bxlievers! on: July 19, 2011, 01:44:48 AM
The FAQ on our website also says the same thing.

It shows:

Quote
There are NO fees for depositing / withdrawing Bitcoins.

But that then is inconsistent with:
 "(after TX fee): "

So I just assumed the FAQ was incorrect.

[he only fee is 0.0005 bitcents network TX fee because we are trying to be good citizens of the network.  That comes out to about half-cent per transfer.

So yes, my apologies!  I think I saw the "(after TX fee): " and calculated it as if it were a proportional amount.

Perhaps that "TX fee" could be made into a link that goes to the FAQ where the 0.0005 BTC fee is described?
8213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CampBX Launch - Free Trades for All Bxlievers! on: July 19, 2011, 01:10:07 AM
Would you confirm that there is a 1% fee assessed for withdrawing BTCs?

If so, would I gain success in trying to convince you how wrong that is?

Base to all communications would be a transaction of some sort of digital currency which allows the traffic to cross each node.

That would be something.  I wouldn't doubt there are designs out there for just that.

As far as interesting wireless projects:

8216  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Community validation requested-- about bitcoin for publication on: July 18, 2011, 11:51:28 PM
Un-regulatable - Bitcoins don’t meet the legal definition of a security under federal securities law; which therefore means they lie outside of the SEC’s ability to regulate and control them.

The issue has not been addressed by any courts in the U.S.  Additionally, the U.S. is one nation.  There are 192 others. [update: 193 others  http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/07/14/un-admits-south-sudan-as-13rd-member/ ]

For within the U.S., there is this:

Un-confiscatable - Bitcoin data, although voided once used, can be copied in stored in multiple locations. If encrypted properly, this makes it impossible for government bodies or malicious groups to confiscate funds retained in Bitcoin.
Being forced to turn over passwords or encryption keys is described here:

8218  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: transactions in limbo on: July 18, 2011, 08:05:35 PM
thanks! could you be more specific? who re-broadcasts the transactions every 30 minutes - my specific client?

If the client knows it has spent a coin but doesn't see that spend transaction in any blocks received, it will resend that transaction.  It is done infrequently and randomly to avoid giving away that the client is the origin of those transactions.

where can i see the code for this process?

You can see which transactions at least one node knows about yet have not yet been included in a block:

8219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla E-mails on: July 18, 2011, 07:49:25 PM
They might figure that some people use the same password for both Dwolla and Mt Gox. It's probably just a precaution.

I'm curious as to what prompted this.

I do notice that their "reset PIN" page is not functioning and/or disabled [update: is successful as I do get an email with a new PIN, but see an error page on the site]:

8220  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best PayPal type Bitcoin site for accepting online store BTC payments? on: July 18, 2011, 07:17:35 PM
there are already several sites offering a BUY button you can incorporate into your website similar to PayPal.

I've not used any so I don't have any experiences to share, but the list includes:
