We don't know if the hacker is genuine, but we (BitInstant) are sincere when we say we'll waive any commission to help Romney get some coins Smiley

Here's our forum post announcing this: http://blog.bitinstant.com/blog/2012/9/6/a-friendly-offer-for-mitt-romney.html

844  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: September 06, 2012, 06:38:16 PM

S.DICE does seem like the best 'legit' investment on either exchange though.  cash flow is sick.  To get 20% yield in the global bond market, you gotta go greek.

And I think we can all agree SatoshiDICE will be around much longer than Greece  Wink

There was always reason to not trust Pirate... 7% profit per week?!

There has never been reason not to trust DeaDTerra... he's always been an upstanding gentleman and a scholar Smiley

Bonus Announcement - As a thank you to all the current shareholders of SatoshiDICE, I've paid a bonus dividend as of today. This dividend corresponds to August's earnings. 7,861.57 BTC was earned in Aug so 786.157 BTC were just paid to the 10% tranche in MPEX. And yes, since not all of the 10% Tranche has sold yet, much of this payment went back to my pocket... you snooze you lose Wink

Please note: This is purely a bonus, since the contract stated dividends wouldn't start accumulating until this month (Sept.).

Thank you shareholders and enjoy! I'll continue working hard to increase the value of your holdings.

847  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Romney's tax returns - first Bitcoin extortion? on: September 05, 2012, 07:36:21 PM

Alright, we know who did it. It was Erik Vorhees! This is a man who wants to destroy democracy and popularize Bitcoin in order to get more gambling addicts to use his Satoshi Dice gambling site!  Shocked

Hehehehe I don't want to destroy democracy, why would you say that??  I just want to be able to opt-out, just like I've done with the Federal Reserve Wink

All it would take is the collaboration of these Big 3 to turn the network to their will, whether it be in secret or otherwise. How do we turn them into tiny networks like on the other side of the graph?
This is about as diversified as I have seen the pool chart.   A year ago deepbit had half, now it takes 3 pools to get there.

+1

Last year, the mining distribution was far more centralized. The problem has been fixing itself over time, and we should expect this, for free markets do not easily permit monopolies to occur (contrary to popular opinion).

This seems like a hoax.  Time to move on.

I'm guessing this was included to prove to PwC that the theft was legit. I would imagine the lawsuit for allowing the data to be stolen will cost them far more than than $1M.

What does that mean... that was included somewhere?
852  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - Want SatoshiDICE dividends? IPO currently in progress. on: September 03, 2012, 05:40:33 PM
This mean googledocs update is not that statement?

That google doc will be updated somewhat casually and was mainly set up to communicate information during the release of these shares. There will be a more formal, once-per-month update and subsequently the dividend amounts will be paid. As per the contract, the first month of dividends started on Sept. 1 and will thus be paid on Oct. 1 for all money earned in Sept.

can any of you shed some light on the probability of SD getting shut down? could such a service run effectively on TOR?

Of course SatoshiDICE can have its domain seized by the U.S. government:

For potential investors, I wish that Mr. V would release information about how much traffic comes through the http://satoshidice.com domain versus how many people place bets directly to the Bitcoin addresses. I raised this issue before but it was conveniently swept under the rug.

It would be great to have some facts regarding the financial impact of a domain seizure on the monthly revenues. Also, what is the plan to process the dividends if Mr. V is incarcerated (put in jail) or incapacitated? If he gets sick and lands in the hospital who processes the dividends? What if the server goes down?

Sorry, didn't mean to sweep this question under the rug. Roughly 500 visitors per day come to SatoshiDice.com. 2/3 are returning visitors, 1/3 are new.

If the domain was seized, business would be disrupted of course. But a new domain would be used, and the bet addresses and info posted elsewhere. Advertisement links would be changed to the new location, and it would be announced/discussed on the forum. But really, players don't even need the website to play - you can just copy the bet addresses in a text file and play whenever you want.  Domain seizure has no effect on the server nor on gambling.  Ahhh the beauties of bitcoin.

If I were prevented from handling the payouts/dividends for some reason, it'd be delegated to a trusted friend. No big challenge there.

860  Economy / Securities / Re: satoshidice on: August 31, 2012, 05:38:59 PM
Dividends are always going to roughly be proportional to risk involved.

This is completely incorrect.

Dividends are for the most part based on free cash flow. 'Price/Earnings ratio are nearly always going to be proportional to the risk involved' - that would be a much more accurate statement. We can observe this by looking at very similar companies (with similar risks) within a sector and see that many have similar P/E ratios. However, within that same sector, you will see a wide range of % earnings paid out as dividends. *Although REITS and other similar investment vehicles will not have a wide range of % earnings paid out as dividends, as law states they must past out 90% minimum.

People need to stop focusing on dividend yield and focus more on earnings. Earnings are what truly matter. This obsession and focus on dividend yields is a common occurrence in both BTC markets and major markets, and it demonstrates a clear misunderstanding of business operations and financial analysis.

Ehhh yeah I agree with you.  Absolutely, earnings are what truly matter for any investment. When I said "dividends correspond to risk" I should have said "dividend yield corresponds to risk".  If a company is paying X in dividends, and it's a safe investment, the price of the share will be bid up to reduce the dividend yield, not the dividend itself.  Apologies for not being careful with my terminology.
