Excellent, now all that's left Charlie is for you to guarantee that the price will go up after we buy our coins Wink

Additionally, next to everyone's avatar is their mBTC balance.  The implication being people with a zero balance have low status. So, everyone has a reason to find some way to have some Bitcoins.

Excellent point, and great post Arthur!

Police people, not the money they use.

Zhou, thank you sincerely for being honorable, reporting quickly and fully, and absorbing the loss.

Very impressed with you and Slush today. I give you my sincere gratitude.

1686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin reaching critical mass in New Hampshire? on: March 01, 2012, 07:13:24 PM
I'm also a Free Stater living here in NH. I'll frame the OP differently - Bitcoin has no "critical mass" within NH as a state, but is very close to gaining critical mass within the FSP movement here. Relative to the global Bitcoin economy, even all FSP members using BTC would be a tiny effect on the market, but would certainly serve as a proof-of-concept, demonstrating the currency being used for in-person and local exchanges. I've already paid people here in Bitcoin for random things (I owed a guy money for hotel room, paid in BTC. Owed for dinner, paid in BTC. Etc).

1687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google Wallet Needs Bitcoin on: March 01, 2012, 07:09:18 PM
One good argument for why Google will be tempted to add Bitcoin to its ecosystem, is that it would hurt Facebook/FB Credits considerably. Google+ needs to throw everything it can at the Facebook behemoth, and undermining the new FB currency with an open p2p currency would be significant.  AFAIK, Google isn't intending to make a new currency, but rather a super-useful wallet system. And what better way to make a wallet useful than to accept the currency of tomorrow, today. Smiley
1688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone here attending Liberty Forum? Bitcoin presentation on: February 28, 2012, 04:07:03 PM
so how'd it go?

Went great! Ira's talk was excellent, and it was very nice hearing questions that were intelligent. No questions of "deflation" or "money laundering" etc.

But beyond the talk, the more important aspect was that Bitcoin was a casual topic of conversation throughout the weekend at Liberty Forum. I overheard many discussions. Even some of the other speakers mentioned Bitcoin. It's finally starting to reach a bit of a critical mass within the libertarian community up here, and this is quite exciting.

Will try to round up some video, but I'm moving apartments today and who knows when my internet will be returning!
1689  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: CryptoXChange Associate's attempt to Slander and Extort Intersango on: February 28, 2012, 04:44:09 AM
CryptoCoinMedia is not a Crypto X Change associate. Crypto X Change has absolutely nothing to do with CryptoCoinMedia's concern regarding Intersango, and Ken has repeatedly made it clear that the whole Misery issue is unrelated to him and Crypto X Change.

RaggedMonk, you are the one slandering someone unjustly. I suggest you delete your thread, for its entire premise is flawed.

I suggest Intersango and CryptoCoinMedia deal with this amongst themselves.

I agree and Id like to deal in private. However Misery is missing and I spoke to Genjix weeks ago with no response. Taking it to the community is the obvious next step.

I think it's fine and valid to bring it to the community. But, THIS specific thread by RaggedMonk is not fine and valid, and should be removed.

Owning guns is neither immoral nor should it be criminal.

What SHOULD be criminal, and is absurdly immoral, is the government using force to prevent the above from occurring.

Are there any sites like Cyberlocker that accept BTC?

Anyone need a new business idea?
1694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Anyone here attending Liberty Forum? Bitcoin presentation on: February 23, 2012, 01:56:03 AM
Liberty Forum is this weekend in New Hampshire. Ira Miller (BTCinch/FeedZeBirds/Shit tons of other stuff) will be speaking on Bitcoin. Both him and myself will be there all weekend, planting the seeds of monetary revolution.

For those who don't know, Liberty Forum is a yearly conference put on by the Free State Project. Peter Schiff is the keynote speaker this year Smiley  Basically it's a bunch of gun-toting freedom-lovers getting drunk in a hotel and preaching to the choir. But it's a good choir! Bitcoin will be perfectly prone for cross-pollination this year muahahaha

Anyone here going?
1695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Conversation with YouNow.com at TechAviv- Using Bitcoin on: February 22, 2012, 03:59:58 PM
This would be super cool - I think he could use the new concept as marketing to grow that site. His value propesition changes from "spend your time on this site to earn points" to the more compelling "spend your time on this site to earn MONEY."  Bitcoin obviously enables the same system to work in every country. It would be a perfect application of the technology.

I'd suggest also, that Bitcoin and Points are not mutually exclusive. Every time one earns a Bitcoin, one earns a Point. Thus, the incentive structure he's built remains in tact, with rankings and the "game" feel to it. The key here is that the user doesn't need to understand what bitcoins are right away to participate. He'll understand the point system (which they have currently), and soon enough he'll learn that those Bitcoins piling up in his account can be spent on things, traded for normal currency, etc.

Alternatively, as a lower level implementation, he could simply add a button to Tip the speaker with bitcoins. This tip would give the speaker bonus points. (Turntable.fm needs to do this same thing)
1696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Max Keiser's website PirateMyFilm.com now accepts Bitcoins! on: February 21, 2012, 10:13:20 PM
Baller.

PMF needs the "Bitcoin Accepted Here" badge on there somewhere. That's one of the most important things for people to start seeing on websites. Also make sure the FAQ or How it Works description of the process mentions Bitcoin as a payment option.

Great work!
1697  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Blizzcoin: UK Instant Bitcoin purchase on: February 21, 2012, 10:02:26 PM
Curious to hear results...

Looks like there is a minimum of 5 btc purchase, right? Can you explain the fee structure?

I see.

I think goodlord's comment can be best understood when one realizes instead of meaning "I see" he meant "WTF?"

For what it is worth, I appreciate this info in a clear and timely manner. Stuff happens, but not knowing makes things Much worse. Good job.

+1  Thank you Gox for the quick communication.
1700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Foursquare on Rails on: February 21, 2012, 02:36:12 AM
Bitcoin is an undiscovered gem for use in retail marketing.   Bit-Pay and others are figuring out the best way for consumers to pay merchants, but nobody is doing much thought on how Bitcoin enables the ability for merchants (or manufacturers) to pay their customers.

The use of bitcoins in a promotion enables many things -- not the least of which is that many of the expenses in fulfillment for the promotion can be offloaded (e.g., self-serve to the participant).

For instance, want to get customers to try Brand A versus Brand  B, but don't want to discount?   Simply include inside the packaging (or printed on the receipt when purchased) a paper Bitcoin's minikey and its QR code.  Include an expiration date so any funds not spent by a certain date are reclaimed by the promoter.

I almost convinced a restaurant owner I know to hand out a Casascius coin with each $25 order. Then the exchange rate rocketed up to where 1 BTC (plus the cost to purchase a phyisical coin) made the offer no longer feasible.  But maybe a 0.5 BTC gift (paper bitcoin with scannable private key QR code) would be a replacement that would still convey value.

+1, great points!

"Merchants paying their customers" lends itself in infinite ways to Bitcoin. The economics here is that every company will pay X to attract attention, because there is a knowledge gap and an inefficiency. There are customers who would buy stuff, if only they knew about the stuff. Thus, it makes sense to spend X to convey that knowledge.

Typically, business spend X by buying ads, etc, but there is tremendous inefficiency there, because the person who pays the cost of time (watching the ad) doesn't directly receive the benefit of payment for that ad (the person gets a TV show, but only after all the costs of marketing/production/etc.) If a company can easily PAY DIRECTLY to the consumer, then vast efficiencies can be realized.

Bitcoin is perfect because these payments to potential customers would typically fall in the category of micropayments. Modern finance systems are prohibitive, so the payments don't happen. Now that a payment system exists which lends itself perfectly to micropayments, the payments can actually occur, and creative new dynamics become inevitable.
