842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 23, 2018, 04:21:17 PM
...
The ledger may incur a second twist, and that is they will most likely be changing the seed word format from 25 to 24 words to match the rest of the wallets they support.  The only concern here is there is a reliable way to either convert these wallets to the 25 word form or somehow else see their seed word format supported by other software (inc. the standard cli and GUI).
...

The 25th word is just a checksum and not actually a part of the seed itself - it's always one of the seed words and is calculated from the seed itself, so I don't think this is an issue at all.
843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 23, 2018, 02:38:24 PM

Personally, I’ll wait for the open source HW wallet.

it seems very cheap, how much can you confidently store on it? will it have some recovery method for lost/damaged devices?

I assume you'd have a seed as backup, same as ledger or Trezor.

THis could be huge if proven:
https://github.com/fireice-uk/cryptonote-speedup-demo

Quote
* Even faster x5 - x10 EC crypto based on new features in Broadwell+ and Ryzen CPUs
* 1 + Bulletproofs + 5 to enable truly anonymous ring signatures (sizes 100+), instead of plausible deniability (size 5)
* Cryptonote blockchain compression, down into below 1 GB sizes for Monero
* Combination of 1 and 3 and a specially tuned server to create Electrum-like wallets.
* Proper mathematical solution to Attack III described in here.
* Tracking of Monero using Attack III (their fix is fairly sub-par especially if some assumptions can be made about the wallet) and graph analysis.

And also solve the moneroV issue in one shot...
Let's see what the rest of the core team says.

This looks really interesting. Thanks for the share.

It should be noted that the idea with ring size 5 is not plausible deniability on any particular transaction but that when coupled with confidential transactions and stealth addresses the cumulative result is an entire network that is entirely private. Of course more is always better.

fireice-uk is not, how shall we say, very well regarded amongst many of the developers, afaik. I'd be surprised if anything came of this claim.

Just as a point of order, for the folks who keep saying the most recent airdrop was never guaranteed, here's what the op said about a year ago:

Quote
98% of all bytes and blackbytes (the private untraceable currency) will be distributed among bitcoin holders who link their bitcoin and byteball addresses before any of the distribution rounds.  No investment required, you keep your bitcoins, plus receive the bytes and blackbytes.  See below how to receive the coins.

98%. Not 60% and then a variety of kludges to supposedly get the remaining 40% out to people willing to jump through hoops for a few scraps. The original distribution proposal was quite clear and specific - 98% to bitcoin and byteball holders.

After rewards to Bitcoin holders were reduced this original plan was still in tact. Even after greatly reducing frequency of airdrops and adding in other methods it was mostly intact, since no one uses cashback and people that only have Latin characters on their passport didn't seem very excited to waste time to get a few dollars of centralized shitcoin, and you can only do so many 5MB text coin giveaways per day. Now the plan is completely abandoned. I think you can see how people view this as a betrayal or broken guarantee or promise.

It's kind of funny there is so much indecision and uncertainty now around the distribution. tonych is in fact the dictator of byteball - he is in charge of development, is in complete control of the network, and is the central bank holding 50% of all bytes. An indecisive dictator. He's worse than my wife trying to figure out where to go out to dinner. And everyone knows the adage about markets and uncertainty.

Sorry to intrude on the FUD, but......

I can only speak for myself, but I am in awe of the innovation of blockchain technology.  It offers western society, and the entire world, a decentralized financial system that affords ordinary people significantly more control over their money, and potential to gain wealth.
Speaking as a millennial with thousands of dollars of college debt, who feels disillusioned with our current financial and economic system, yet still clings to the idea of the American dream...I feel like many Byteball veterans have lost sight of the intention behind a DEcentralized financial system.
...

Byteball is neither blockchain nor decentralized. Good luck with your beg.
847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 18, 2018, 10:44:17 PM

Now that the new distribution methods are ready and proven, and we've added even more methods than originally planned, the March airdrop is cancelled.  November airdrop was the last one that paid to holders in proportion to their balances.

This is the list of the current distribution methods (in no particular order) that we'll continue to use and improve:

1. Cashback.

2. Verification rewards and referral rewards to those who verify their real name.  It is true that the referral system didn't work quite well for new users who have no Bytes yet, and we are going to introduce a new scheme which will allow to refer new users without sending them any Bytes.

3. Giveaways, such as those that Rafael does to his youtube subscribers.

4. Mass sending of textcoins to subscribers of our partners.  We have done two so far https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1heT6TUSpTJgRW-FUM0LbcoVjXZRCb3PbXQQLmzvNRvM/edit#gid=323859176 and will work on improving conversion in the future campaigns.

IMO this is very bad news. None of these methods are "proven" as you say, and they are all far more opaque than distributing to addresses with balances that can be checked on the networks.

How many dollar-equivalents have been spent in the cashback program so far? What's there been like 50 people send their passport to Juobi or whatever now? Youtube crypto scam videos? Really?

There are still 40% of coins to distribute, and now they are basically completely able to be distributed by shady backroom deals or not at all. There is no way to validate distribution beyond this point. So long and thanks for all the fish.
848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins with SegWit and LN-style off-chain payment solutions on: February 15, 2018, 05:56:26 PM
Just a question though: Why not include Bitcoin on the Lightning Network (mainnet testing) list?
Isn't Blockstream testing on the mainnet as well?
You are totally right, I just have added BTC. It's not only Blockstream, there are enthusiasts of different groups as well. It is however still not recommended for everyday use and there seem to be still security problems which made some of the testers lose money.

Komodo KMD : Not like a BTC LN
Both seem to be in early planning stages and at last Decred - which is a major rewrite of Bitcoin's code - would probably use other means than Segwit to achieve the necessary malleability fix for LN. So for now, I'll not add them.

Komodo itself also seems to not plan to use Segwit, only its platform's "sub-currency" Chips.

Decred is built by the guys who wrote BTC suite, btcd daemon and tools, the golang implementation for bitcoin that one one of the lightning implementations relies on, lnd I think. They don't have Segwit, but they have a malleability fix in place since launch, and have or will shortly have lightning working on their network. See top comment here:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/decred/comments/7dsx99/does_decred_has_segwit/

Also, I would say Bitcoin shouldn't be mentioned based on the fact that the thread title specifies altcoin, which BTC clearly is not.

It's not a Monero ASIC, but if they can do it for ethash...

Volume is absolutely anemic on bittrex atm. Will be interesting to see if things pick up when one of rebase candidates gets some traction.
851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 13, 2018, 10:56:38 PM
I noticed Byteball has a free lottery on Facebook, giving away 3 x 5 MBYTE.

I have another Giveaway idea:
Start a giveaway in which every Bitcointalk account which has earned at least 10 Merit points can claim x MBYTE (exclude accounts with red trust to limit (Merit) abusers).
The value of "x" can be decided by Tony. If x = 10, it may cost 10 GBYTE per month tops (for 1000 users). That's several orders of magnitude cheaper to reach new users than the airdrop to Bitcoin holders. Optionally, x could be higher for highly rated users.
This giveaway can be promoted by signature campaign (I've suggested this before), which could be paid in Blackbytes (to promote usage) from the community fund.

There's more than 300,000 GBYTE left to distribute, this giveaway would cost less than 0.01% of this.

Please share your thoughts on this!

The idea of the airdrop was to get users interested in Byteball and attract new users to Byteball. I was not aware of the lottery on Facebook.
Rewarding accounts with merits might not be helpful in attracting new users. Plus you would have to ask members to claim the give away, by installing a wallet. Too much hassle for $5 worth of a coin.

Honestly I despise shitcointalk campaigns, but this seems more reasonable than asking people to send their passport and $10 to get $20 of byteball in return.
852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON [2017-10-07: update to 0.9.14.0] on: February 09, 2018, 09:45:39 PM
Hello!  having little trouble receiving Aeon I sent a few to my address via the console panel and still nothing. hitbtc has sent and confirmed it. Wondering if doing something wrong?

You have to sync aeond, which can take hours or days and may not be possible without sufficient ram. Once aeond daemon is synced, then open simplewallet.
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Community Governance | Bitcoin Devs | Lightning Network on: February 08, 2018, 07:10:59 PM

Clearly it was YOUR fault you missed the airdrop, can't you own up to your mistakes or are you a child?: You were given 4 days to complete the registration, sadly you forgot to open your email during that time. Sorry to say you really did missed the Airdrop.

Why are so many people still responding after so long? gemblitz is a well known troll. When he is not trolling decred, he is usually doing something similar for bitcore and bitsend and their own airdrops he is not eligible for.

Either he is laughing with all the replies or he is seriously disturbed. Or maybe both.

YOU WANNA SEE WHEN FRAUDSTER DECRED DEVS ARE EXPOSED>_>JUS STICK AROUND ~ BITTREX INSIDERS TRADING ~ KERPLOW Shocked weeee

lol well...I've been sticking around for 2+ years so far...nothing but profit  Grin

You keep being butthurt though. I'm sure its profitable, too  Cool

I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO WAS SCAMMED BY THIS FAKE AIRDROP~ FRAUD IS FRAUD. :\ pfft

You are, however, apparently the only person who (constantly) spams this thread about it.

Ok, 1.959 XMR paid out to explorer:
b436f2c70fcf809dad535860fb4b932fc2b749d810254bfd096dd16c62ca18f6

Congrats explorer, but more importantly, congrats eagles! And thanks phishead for doing all the dirty work. See you guys in March or whenever.

No problem, I'm just going to have to figure out an easier way to do this same thing for next years super bowl... meh, we'll see.

But yes, I do intend to run this years second annual Monero Madness... Crazy to think a year has been past since running my first one of these forum based gambling games.

I'll have a thread up some time relatively soon and will update you guys here, as well as the other threads (MFFL, Monero Madness, etc.)... Last years winner was DrHiggins who won a whopping 14 XMR  Shocked

And only two years ago that you paid me 50 XMR for watching the Panthers lose to the broncos I think...
855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 05, 2018, 11:13:25 PM
By my calculations the Monero speculation thread is going to overtake the Monero ANN thread in page count in a month or two. Pretty sure this is the most bullish indicator in recent history, and likely indicates that the price per Monero will rise to match the total page count, so you can pretty much count on nearly $2k XMR by early April. Buy b42l8 and thank me later Smiley

I don't know who's got eagles 8 or 0 versus Patriot 3 but let's go eagles!
859  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 1st Annual Super Bowlero Pool on: February 05, 2018, 01:48:07 AM
I think phishead only sent 0.14 when he was supposed to send 0.18, but whatever, go eagles!

Confirming LennyCarl and monerostruggles1111, so wallet at 1.5 XMR. Is it really too late for forevernoob? Last 25 squares still up for grabs? I'll buy 12 and LennyCarl 13?
