841  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 03, 2016, 10:25:09 PM
I pointed my dust miners here to check it out, I like what I see so far.  Electricity is too high where I live to mine for profit, so I have a solo lottery S5 and a bunch of usb miners (another ~70GH) that I dust mine with because it's fun to see a little coin trickle in.  The dust miners have been on kano.is but since that pool grew so much recently I am below the payout threshold over there, so hoped them over here to hopefully start seeing payments again.

Question about the perks, Prepay BTC specifically: "Immediate pay for bitcoin blocks. No waiting for confirmations. No lost coins if the block is later orphaned. Note: does not apply to stale blocks."  Am I understanding this correctly that, if you select this perk, the pool will pay out your share of the block reward prior to the 100 confirmations it takes for the 25btc reward to be generated?  And the part about the lost coins is confusing, does this pool pay orphaned blocks?  If you do not select the perk do you then lose coins if a block is orphaned?  Thanks in advance.
842  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: March 03, 2016, 09:03:12 PM
well, my S5 controller has 4 ports, and they seem to sell controller cables:
My S5 has 4 ports, also, two are being used by the machine and 2 are open.  Are the open ones what would control the pod?  Would be an interesting pod if it could run alongside an already running S5, like a piggy back system almost.

Another small miner!

Woot, nice job, looks like he was mining with a single S7 probably?  My solo mining address starts "1P" also, so I got a little excited at first, but best share is only 1G...

I had no success with the Nicehash firmware on my S5 so I just use the latest Bitmain release. Have had no problem with the S5 switching in and out of Nicehash, sometimes it happens 4 or 5 times a day without problem.
I thought you had to use the NH firware to set your miner up for rental at their site?  I've thought about setting mine up as a rental but I didn't want to use their firmware so I passed.
845  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] HaoBTC, mining dividend paid out hourly on: March 03, 2016, 07:59:59 PM
HaoBTC is a wallet first and an investment vehicle second.
Interesting to see it that way now, when I started here and interest was 9% on the regular "wallet" account I think HaoBTC was viewed much more as an investment vehicle.  My unused coin will stay here as long as interest is paid, hopefully some day my balance will be >10BTC so I can get out of the 2% bracket, until then I'm happy to be earning something.
846  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are closed.... prize = 0.2 btc on: March 03, 2016, 07:52:21 PM
This period is looking much more promising than the last several adjustments.  I have getting afraid that 200G diff was right around the corner.  Hopefully diff will stay level/slightly negative for the next couple periods.  Although if we see new chip tech go public before the halving, watch out...

What api address do i use in the ckpool iphone app to add my workers?
The api part of the phone app is for kano ckpool, not solo ckpool.  Solo does not have an api.

Instructions about worker naming, etc. are at http://solo.ckpool.org/.  Happy mining.
848  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: March 02, 2016, 10:31:22 PM
...It has been years since bitcoin has been quiet enough for any mempool anywhere on earth to have zero transactions after a block change. ...they have zero interest in changing their approach now since it "works". ...
I wish that bitcoin itself would correct this with core network code that requires valid block solves to contain transactions when the mempool is not empty (i.e. always); the network itself would reject blocks that do not contain transactions.

Diff fix applied a few minutes ago.
Very tidy restart, only 7 users of the 887 didn't reconnect straight away.
All good.
I noticed the website only reports a single hash rate in the upper right corner now, what interval is it reporting?
850  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 02, 2016, 10:25:16 PM
Hi guys,,

Bought a U3 as a little hobby to underdtand the cgminer aspect of mining. I also have 2 S3's but they are obviously easier to set up and maintain.

Im having trouble overclocking it though. Currently runs at 225mhz and 775mv even though I have the bat file set up as follows:-

cgminer -o  -u  -p x --au3-freq 237.5 --au3-volt 800

(obviously with pool data and uswrname data in there.

Can anyone point me to where ive gone wrong?

Thanks.

Anyone?

You were probably using cgminer v4.9.1 which had a bug and it wouldn't recognize the U3.  v4.9.2 had fixes specifically for the U3, it is the version you should probably be using.

I just came back to my screen and saw 25.0469 BTC in my wallet!!!!
Congrats, that's so cool and it's what all us solo miners hope for every day!  Those S7s are good machines, enjoy your coins!
852  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are closed.... prize = 0.2 btc on: March 02, 2016, 07:23:09 PM
Well I know of at least one S3 that went off-line, mine!  I replaced it with an S5, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't show up on the network difficulty.  Wink
853  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 02, 2016, 07:14:22 PM
I can't believe you guys are still buying.  I have buyers remorse on these things.  According to my calculations I need Kano's pool to hit about 686 more blocks without my per block payout going down just to break even.  Without a doubt I would have been better off holding BTC than buying these.
One of the reasons I have never bought mining hardware new (except Gekko compac sticks).  I paid just over $100 for my S3+, and I paid less than $180 including shipping for my S5.  As soon as the used market develops for the S7 I'll pick one up, but when it's closer to $200 and not $1000.
854  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 01, 2016, 11:58:06 PM
compared to the s7 heat output the output from the s5 is like a warm summer breeze.
Well with my laundry room set up heat and noise are not really a concern to me, but my electricity rates are so high here that I think the S5 is all I'm willing to pay for for this "hobby".  After I move and see what the rates are like I'll look at the S7 (also after there is a used market for them).  It's fun to me to have a pony in the race, even if it's just 1 vs. the herd.
855  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 5.4.1: GBT+Stratum, RPC, Mac/Linux/Win64, Antminer S1-S5, Block v4 solo on: March 01, 2016, 11:52:02 PM
If you wanted to learn about computers would you study an Amiga from the 1980s?  No, of course not.

So if you want to learn about bitcoin mining why on earth would you try to cpu mine?  No one supports cpu bitcoin mining anymore because tech has progressed way way way beyond that.  Nothing you might learn there would be applicable to the world of asic mining.

Get a Gekko compac stick or buy a used S3, they're easy to use, cheap, and you can actually learn something useful from them.
856  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are closed.... prize = 0.2 btc on: March 01, 2016, 11:33:57 PM
I does look like the network hash rate is leveling off, almost certain to remain negative this time.  Would be nice to get a couple negatives in a row.  Only a handful of adjustments before the halving!
857  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 01, 2016, 06:29:56 AM
I finally upgraded my solo lottery machine from an S3+ to an S5, the trade of 50% more power for 200%+ time the hash was well worth it.  My friend is 3D printing my fan ducts and upper and lower covers, but I did a few things in the mean time to hold me over.  It is in my laundry room that isn't being used right now, so noise really isn't too much of a concern, but I lowered the fan to 60% and it dropped 4dB (70dB to 66dB) and runs at a steady 1.15TH @ 53.5*C.

I folded up some tin foil and closed off the bottom of the unit.

I ordered a fan duct off ebay so that I could focus the exhaust out my dryer duct.

I'll adjust the height of my shelf better for the final setup, but for now I just angled the S5 slightly to get the ducts to line up.

All buttoned up.  The final setup will probably use the insulated tubing to connect the S5 to the vent and see if that makes it quieter as well.

I also have an brand new Delta AFB1212VHE in a drawer that I can use as a pull fan and lower the fan speed further for a few more dB as long as I don't oc it.

It could easily be 10 of those containers that got burn-in testing, that would explain the hash in a pretty simple and clean manner.  But the weird conspiracy theories are more fun to day dream about...  Tongue
859  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Periodical Cleaning of Antminers on: February 29, 2016, 10:21:02 PM
My S3+ was overclocked a little so I could get 500GH/s out of it.  Sometimes it would run for days at 500GH and then slowly start decline to ~485GH and then I would reboot it to get the 15GH back.  It wasn't a dust or heat issue, I think that's just how the S3+ operates.  I clean mine out rarely, like only if there's a reason they need to be shut off, but they are inside a house and don't get too dirty.
860  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are open ... prize = 0.2 btc on: February 29, 2016, 10:14:54 PM
it has not come back yet.-------- good
Yup, and I'm with you hoping that it never comes back, but it is/was out there so...

It's crazy to think just how much space 100PH worth of gear would take up and the type of utility infrastructure that has to exist to support it.  For it to be here one minute and gone the next, there is for sure a big story there that we're not getting any of.
