We've had three more guys join the team this week alone, including one welcome surprise for you guys entry I had a hand in, who will be joining us in the coming months, but for now i'm remaining tight lipped. He's a v.smart guy though, and gels well with the team! Wink

...their customer retention rate is probably now below 5% and they are a running joke in the Bitcoin community

Hence why they always bid on forum advertising, even though josh says this forum is a waste of time and full of assholes, they have to lure newbies before they know better.
843  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 14, 2013, 07:07:37 PM
cool thanks, ill give that a try.

i see that you have other commands entered in the 'more options' field - what are other commands for the device? if its not too much trouble could you please list out the commands and what they do so i could mess around with my unit?

real--quiet makes the device more quiet than --quiet?

Code:
--avalon-auto       Adjust avalon overclock frequency dynamically for best hashrate
--avalon-fan <arg> Set fanspeed percentage for avalon, single value or range (default: 20-100)
--avalon-freq <arg> Set frequency range for avalon-auto, single value or range
--avalon-cutoff <arg> Set avalon overheat cut off temperature (default: 60)
--avalon-options <arg> Set avalon options baud:miners:asic:timeout:freq
--avalon-temp <arg> Set avalon target temperature (default: 50)

--real-quiet isn't a noise thing it just disables all output. It came with that already in and I've never changed it.

Mine is a batch #3 and the temperature sensors were moved so I have to use --avalon-temp and --avalon-cutoff as the defaults are too low, you shouldn't need to add them.

I'm flying from Sweden to the UK. Grin

Chuck my november order in your suitcase Smiley
845  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 13, 2013, 06:16:15 PM
how do i turn on --avalon-auto on my minis? im running 0821 firmware.

what exactly does this feature do?

It constantly alters the chip frequency to maintain the best hashrate / lowest hw error %

To use enter --avalon-auto into the more options field in cgminer configuration tab.

846  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My ASIC Performance Figures, 9 Months In on: November 13, 2013, 11:21:35 AM
Nice to see someone looking honestly at the figures, namely doing everything in BTC not using the common mistake of using the BTC/USD rate to hide the fact their bitcoin mining machine mined less than it cost.

Apart from Avalon batch #1 and #2 I don't think any hardware has been a good buy, though it's been a fun ride Smiley
847  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [115 Th] 50BTC.com - PPS|Stratum+Vardiff|Port 80|QIWI,Yandex,Mobile,WM... on: November 11, 2013, 11:56:15 PM
From most of the posts here it looks like inputs.io is smaller in amount compared to 50btc.com yet the posts to inputs.io seem much harsher.... and TF was responding and communicating...

Just an observation...

Most of us learnt the hard way from previous pools going bust never to keep any sizeable amount on pools and to withdraw often, while there are some people with very large amounts outstanding I expect the bulk are like me with minor amounts not worth getting upset over

Inputs.io on the other hand promised the world including safe online storage as coins would be kept in a cold wallet immune from hacking, the reality was they weren't so what people perceived as safe wasn't hence the anger (I had nothing on inputs.io btw).

Just my observation Smiley

Thanks, Tigggger and eleuthria!

No problem, I edited with a bit more info as you were asking how to find it.
849  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: November 11, 2013, 11:36:57 PM
I noticed that block 269054 paid out about 70% more than the blocks surrounding it, and I'm curious how that's possible.

This was a few hours ago.

I assume it's because the transaction fees on that particular block were particularly high. But, the block only shows some 200 transactions. Was it a stunningly large transaction or a stunningly large transaction fee? If there's some way to determine this from all the reports that our out there, feel free to teach me how to fish, rather than giving me the fish. Smiley

https://blockchain.info/block-height/269054

Transaction Fees   18.82943281 BTC

Click the hash link to view all the included transactions

I might have quipped this before, but it bears repeating: variance happens, even in a pool the size of BTC Guild. Heck, even in a network the size of BTC as a whole, variance happens.

Doesn't make it any less annoying, but the reality is that kvetching is part of the fun, too.

Now, leave me alone while I try and figure out how to load balance...

It's not just here.  I notice that Ghash.io is at 4 hours on a block after a pair of two hour blocks - that's really bad luck for over there.

Hmmmm.   Load balance you say ??

It appears that its just difficulty catching up with the increasing hash rate so it's returning back to an average of 10 minute blocks. with the previously exploding hash rate it was always running ahead.

852  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Wow, liars ngzhang starts to post on this forum again. on: November 07, 2013, 10:53:01 AM
Not an angry mob... more like trying to protect the Sheeple from Ngzhang. Pretty simple tool why not use the Trust?

Because the trust system is useless, the initial view gives no indication of bad feedback so why would you click to look further.

Even if you do click on trust it still shows nothing...

BTC 0.92? You're kidding, right?

I hope they just misjudged the price they can change and lower it. But it might be they have high expenses to cover in which case they are in a world of hurt.

Told ya

854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 06, 2013, 08:59:01 AM
Well after 5 days of nonstop stable mining my Jupiter just stopped hashing. The web interface said CGMiner was down and when SSHing in there was no screen session running. Restarting the miner via the web interface did nothing but a reboot has it back in action. Only 10 minutes of downtime but guess I still need to keep my eyes peeled for offline email warnings. Hopefully they'll eventually get it as stable as my Avalons which I have to say are 100% stable even when overclocked. Going to look at the logs when I have time tomorrow...

I've been noticing this since 0.98+ and the devs are aware of the issue and are working on it.

I lost 7 hours of mining the other day as it happened at 2am and didn't catch it until I woke up.

I have now set up an alert on my phone to catch the idle notification emails and play an siren to wake me up.

855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 05, 2013, 10:31:48 PM
It's going to be damn close to BTC break even by the end of 6 months of hosting. By then I'll have around the same BTC that I would have had purchasing them AND a piece of history (The Jupiters). They may even still be profitable then and continue mining Tongue

And that is the criteria that should be used, glad we agree Smiley

So I paid 7000USD for a Jupiter and if by any miracle I mine and sell BTC for 14000USD then I did bad?

It's not bad, but the profit has come from the rising BTC/$ rate not from the Jupiter. Any hardware needs to be valued in the number of BTC it cost and the number it gives you back.

until you are living your life entirely on bitcoin, not making the full btc you spent back means fuck all. Life runs on fiat right now and thats the ROI that actually matters.

And if you keep thinking that way, you'll end up poorer.  Think of it all in $ terms. Imagine it's a $ mining machine. You have $100 in your pocket, I will sell you a machine that makes $1 coins, if you buy it and it only gives you 60 coins it was a bad investment, if it made 120 it was good
856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 05, 2013, 07:49:23 PM
Today marks the beginning of my positive ROI after I sold the proceed of 29 days of mining (59 BTC with 2 Jup). My wife cannot complain anymore about that investment she does not really trust or understand.

You might have broken even in $ terms, but that misses the point of the machines, and is the fallacy that keeps people buying all these ASIC machines (and stops wives complaining Tongue )

You paid around 120BTC until it gives you that many back it's not a good investement

If you insist on thinking in $, if you hadn't bought the machines you'd now have $28,000.

857  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bi•Fury | 5+ GH/s USB Miner [FASTEST USB MINER IN THE WORLD] on: November 05, 2013, 12:50:20 PM
For those waiting on prices I expect you will be dissapointed.

Vendors of this and other bitfury based devices have simply paid too much for the chips, their costs to get them made into usb's/boards and return a profit has run up against the rapid difficulty growth

They therefore have 2 choices, sell them at a price that will give the buyer a chance at ROI and lose money themselves, or sell them at a price where they profit and the buyers take a loss.  Given the huge quantities of unprofitable asicminer devices sold it's no surprise they are all choosing the latter option.
858  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BUY/SELL ASIC MINING STUFF on: November 05, 2013, 11:03:00 AM
You found something that was actually priced at a price worth buying?

The fact that their prices are so absurdly high does lend a little legitimacy to the site, though

Most is overpriced but then all asic hardware is.

I'd be tempted buy the UK jupiter, but not sending 22 BTC to a new website when there is so little information.

I understand the desire to keep all the listings the same size, but when you click on one, it should provide more info, ie real photos of the unit, pictures of it hashing, location, would the buyer allow payment on collection etc etc
859  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: Advanced Mining Technology (AMT) on: November 01, 2013, 04:10:32 PM
So let me get this straight....

A customer asks questions.
You claim he's only trolling because you refused to ship to him in afghanistan.
He says he's not in afghanistan but in the USA
You ask him to confirm by email
He does and you cancel his order because he's using a VPN Huh

Can you explain why a VPN is a problem, I always use one so am I excluded from ordering too ?

5 hours in and 0.98 has worked miracles on my jupiter dramatically reducing the HW errors and so increasing the hashrate at the pool by 50GH

0.97
CGMiner: 545
Pool: 500
HW: 8.5%

0.98
CGMiner: 559
Pool: 550
HW: 2.1%
