861  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: February 05, 2013, 10:16:06 PM
What the fuck is that wall guy trying to do?

there are 3 possible reasons for putting up this wall

1. to buy cheaper coins or cover shorts cheaper  behind the downward pressure from the wall
2. to sell the coins at the wall price
3. to play and have fun as a big bitcoin trader with all the little other traders and fool around

>2. is rather unlikely as he could sell his coind better in small portions at a higher price
<1. and 3. are both more probable

what about 4. having some kind of bet that depends on exchange rate being <$21 to be won?

could also be it.. did you check on the betting sites?

865  Economy / Speculation / Re: New All-Time-High of Bitcoin versus Gold today - will it go even higher? on: February 02, 2013, 10:03:33 AM
http://www.numbersleuth.org/worlds-gold/ gives the total amount of gold in the world at 165000 metric tons. For 21,000,000 BTC and a gold price of 1600 USD an ounce this works out to 400,000 USD per BTC for an equal market cap for bitcoin and gold.

wow... now the long term goal is clear...

Why? Only a small percentage of these golds are investable, you know better than me about this.

yes, true.
but still, it is a nice appealing goal, if eventually bitcoin will have a higher "mkt cap" vs. gold.

1. this is why I mentioned that the BTC/Gold ratio is at an all time high, which is independent from absolute unit effects

2. what is the "mkt cap" of Silver and Gold?
868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never reach $20 again on: January 31, 2013, 09:53:34 PM
I just wish BTC Economist, whoever he is, bought in at $20 and sold everything at $7 (around the time this prediction was made).

I also wish he'd buy in now and sell everything at the next crash. Would be funny.

buying a breakout as we are seeing it now, might indeed be better than trying to anticipate the top..
869  Economy / Speculation / Re: New All-Time-High of Bitcoin versus Gold today - will it go even higher? on: January 31, 2013, 09:28:25 PM
Today, BTC made a new all-time-high versus Gold at 0.0128 (above the June 2011 high of 0.0108).

Could this be the start of more..?

Im confused... is this the blue guy? Huh Huh Huh

changed it to blue. sorry for that mistake :-)

I've stopped even trying to make predictions at this point.  A week ago I would not have guessed that we'd break $20 in months.

But, I hope we reach parity with silver soon! I have a couple of silverbugs in my family that I want to mock.

If I did not have the live experience from the rally in 2010 and 2011 i may have become bearish ovwr the padt weeks...
but fortunately i started analysing bitcoin already in october 2010 and this is why i madenthe bullish calls in the padt weeks and months..
it seems to be a one way road up. the trend is the bulls friend, until proven otherwise.

Three good new pieces today. The Bloomberg piece is currently on the Bloomberg.com home page and is the "chart of the day"

Is the current state of bitcoin charts similar to 2011???.
http://bit.ly/qJDsYw

looks very similar, and not totally improbable.

this does not mean that this IS the future outlook, but there was similar skepticism and bears crawling out of their hole at around 3 $ and 6-7 $ in spring 2011 - and then prices quadrupled again in the next 4-5 weeks.

One can also make a case for a drop to say 9 USD or 10 USD followed by a rise to say 600 USD by making comparisons to 2010 and 2011. There were two bear markets a 64% drop in November - December 2010 and also a 47% drop in February - April 2011 to set the stage for the massive bull run that followed. Of course those that held tight while their Bitcoins dropped in value from 0.5 USD to 0.18 USD and then from 1.10 USD to 0.58 USD were richly rewarded in the bull market that followed.

this is 100% fair.
And that's why I said that this is just one set of charts to look at.
I always follow many different bullish and bearish chart options in parallel in the subscriber service and make bear or bull calls in an agile way. at least always trying my best
877  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 27, 2013, 10:43:47 PM
40,000btc to break $20, would be fun to watch though  Grin
That's not very much.

800,000 USD is about 30 seconds of APPL volume...
878  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: January 27, 2013, 10:01:47 PM
I would like to suggest that we change the wording of one of the paragraphs on this page:
https://bitcoinfoundation.org/about/why

Here's the paragraph in question:

Quote
As the Bitcoin economy has evolved, we have all noticed barriers to its widespread adoption—botnets that attempt to undermine the network, hackers that threaten wallets, and an undeserved reputation stirred by ignorance and inaccurate reporting.

I think words like botnets, hackers, ignorance and inaccurate should all be left out. These are negative words. I think many normal people could be put off by using these words. Those diving into Bitcoin will learn about it soon enough, for the rest, they don't need to know much to use Bitcoin, it's like driving a car, somebody explain to you how to start it, and you don't need to know what's under the hood. While geeks may be interested in it, most people just want to pay their stuff.

Perhaps something like this could work better:
Quote
As the Bitcoin economy has evolved, we have all noticed barriers to its widespread adoption, both on a business- and user level. We work dilligently towards educating the users and businesses. The bitcoin user experience is continually being improved. We seek to work with the media to provide accurate and factual information about bitcoin.

Thus, you keep it much more positive and up to beat. I think many will avoid bitcoin simply because when they read to many negative words, they simply just jump to the next glossed up payment provider. While the original statement is not necessarily wrong, they may sound a little bit scary.

Rule number one of marketing is to make everything look nice and welcoming. Smiley We don't need to lie, but at the same time, we don't need to tell about the problems right away. There will always be assholes, but let's focus on the technology and what the Foundation can do.

Perhaps it would be good to go through the entire site by someone which profession is public PR. After all, we don't see many banks telling about their problems on their webpages, do we ?

great idea

"spring of 2013"?

Quote
In spring 2013, after about one month of sideways move of the bitcoin rate, the above bitcoin chart shows that bitcoin prices exploded after 2-3 consolidation periods.

Are you from the future?  Cheesy

yes, how did you know. I just bought I time machine last week with a few bitcoins :-)

thanks for spotting the typo..
