Tongue

Grin

863  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can we make Bitcoin simpler? on: March 09, 2023, 02:12:54 PM
Also convenience.  They want convenience.  Click a button and voila.
I quite disagree on the convenience part. As someone belonging to this little group of people who got used to Bitcoin before they even create a bank account, I can assure you that I honestly found it difficult to adapt. Maybe my expectation that the banking sector would be more simple than Bitcoin did hype up the situation, but it wasn't very convenient to me.

Maybe it's just my e-banking app, but I see accounts, credit and debit cards, buttons for "New Payment" and "New Transfer" instead of just "New transaction", money boxes, savings, loans, investments, securities, amounts of money I have not reported to the taxman, then in "Transfers" I get the option to send to my banking account, to someone else's bank account of the same bank, to someone's bank account of another bank within the country's borders, to someone outside my country, or to someone just by giving a phone number (with IRIS). If I don't want to transfer via bank accounts, I need to withdraw some in my debit card, and thing goes on and on. There are statistics, profile stuff, and even an option to merge accounts and debit / credit cards that I don't yet understand what is all about.

And that's before I even mention the bureaucratic nonsense that costed me time when I had to go and get my debit card from the bank, and all these obscurities the banking sector is consisted of, like charging me 2 EUR for moving more than 15 EUR to another bank.

Revolut is much better, but I still don't find it more convenient than, say, Electrum.
It's even worse in Africa:

Αυτοί που σκούζανε ότι οι miners «σύντομα» δεν θα έχουν επαρκές εισόδημα σε ποιά τρύπα είναι κρυμμένοι τώρα;

Shocked

SEC is greedy no matter what, they keep tailing everything in crypto as security. They never stop until they are in control of this crypto space that's why everyone are siding with XRP because they are the only one can pair up with SEC. XRP is the last stand to protect everyone in the crypto space and breakdown SEC greediness once in for all.

I wonder if PoW altcoins (like Monero) are considered commodities or securities.
So far, only Bitcoin is not considered as commodity or security.

It is one of biggest reasons you should prioritize to pick Bitcoin for your portfolio. Ethereum, BNB and other altcoins have risk to be considered as commodity or security in future.

The whole cryptocurrency community are waiting for a final decision for XRP lawsuit case. It will open a gate for SEC to aim at more altcoin projects or it will reduce pressure and risk on altcoin projects if Ripple XRP succeeds to win the lawsuit or at least have a way to handle it with SEC, in peace.

I don't actually believe SEC will file that lawsuit if they see they fail it so a chance for Ripple is handling it with SEC, with money likely.

The risk against Ethereum forced Coinbase to delist Ethereum Classic months ago. I guess they thought SEC will aim at the initial project that raised fund and it is Ethereum Classic, not Ethereum.
I think you're confused.

Commodity = good
Security = bad

So far SEC has said that BTC can be considered a commodity, unlike many alts (especially PoS ones).

Naturally, miners act in their own interest. They mine to earn the most coins possible.

If the team of developers want to prevent GPU mining then they must prevent it by developing a code that prevents GPU mining. Instead, the developers have implemented an option to freeze addresses so that users can no longer control their funds. In doing so, the developers bypass all normal legal procedures for handling financial disputes.

Regardless of the management team's reasons, it is a fact that the users cannot trust the Noso project when funds can be frozen according to the managers' arbitrary decisions.

Devs warned that there will be consequences , the GPU miners decided to ignore them . As i said being dishonest doesn't pay as much as being honest . Miners could give the code and keep their stash and keep earning . They became greedy and lost everything . In fact , they are so dumb that didn't even ask the community to provide them a percentage of each miner rewards that could use their code , i think that no one would disagree at that time ( take a look at how other cpu and gpu miners had a dev fee ) . They chose a way that left them with their d**ks in hand , i guess that's better for them than to act logically by using their brains . That's what usually happens when you think with the wrong head .

As you said miners act at their own interest . So do devs , but not for their personal interest , for the longevity of the project . Not all people act like you did . They are not getting paid and they commit their time to create something useful . I've seen for years scums that provide nothing to a project and just want to earn everything . Devs here want to provide to others , you are just looking to steal from others .

As for the part that users don't trust noso , take a look at how many people are mining right now , there's been an increase of at least 5X. Noso is steadily increasing it's base , not everyone believes in the far west world you want to live in . Participants know that if they act honest they have no problem . It's a project that tries to have one of the fairest distributions , and so far i think they have achieved it . So , you can follow their way or hit the highway .

Edit . Kαι o μακαριτης εδω ?

You don't say the full story . Devs asked those that developed the gpu miner to share the code with the community otherwise their funds will be frozen . These guys acted for their own interest and it was an unanimous decision by the GVT holders to freeze their accounts .

Naturally, miners act in their own interest. They mine to earn the most coins possible.

That's why you cannot trust 99.99% of altcoins.

Can’t believe what I just read…Growing food in your backyard is a better way to hedge against inflation?
Not a hedge/store of value, but if you can grow your own food (not everyone can), then you can mitigate inflation for yourself.

i.e. producing your own eggs vs buying them from the market at jacked-up prices.

until you see the vet bills for a chicken and the ongoing feed and having to make a hutch and then a fence to keep the neighbours cat away. then there is the heating and other costs

there is a reason why people go to supermarkets.. mass production is cheaper than solo production

oh. and the only hedge would be if you want blackberries. they grow in hedges(bushes)
Vet bills and heating for a couple of hens? You're overthinking a bit too much...

I know people who live in villages and produce their own eggs. All they pay is some corn to feed the chickens.

Decentralization is good everywhere (including food production), not just money. Wink

Centralized food production means you can easily starve the masses... no bueno.

Money, Politics and Society are interrelated and cannot be separated from one another . I don’t think we can talk about one without talking about the other. The real world is run by banks not politicians, Davos is the biggest event of 2023. The world economic forum has a huge influence in political decisions because THEY control the money and hence make the big decisions. In short, I agree with the slogan “Fix the money Fix the world”, money controls the cycle of life. From birth, we grow to learn the value of money and most spend their lifetime working for money and more money till death.
You said all are connected? So, why only focus on banks? I think politicians do have a power to command banks but let's not forgot the society. The actions that they make will also have an impact on the other two. The slogan must be old but they only revived it only to tell that Bitcoin can be a good solution about this problem.

I think most us already know why so I won't say it again here. Inflation is high but I think we can still do something to be able to survived other than using Bitcoin as one of our alternative currency. We can grow our own food in our own garden. We can also raise animals to get dairy products and meat. This can save us a lot of money.
