Just toasted a 850 watt psu.
I realiase now that the psu had two 38 amp 12v rails providing 336 watts each. As it happens one rail had one gpu on it while the other had 2 on it and was thus over-loaded.
Now I have the replacement on order I have this question.
Is there anything stopping me from "bridging" the two rails? I'd do it by splicing the wires together outside the PSU. I'm fairly familiar with DC and can't immediatly see an issue with this but thought I ought to ask.
Also more to the point, if I can do that, then whats to stop me doing it across several PSUs ?
Cheers
Yes you can. Internally the PSU most likely has a single 12V output and the only thing separating the output rails is a current limiting resistor.

Nice... no limit on rebates too.
"Purchase between 09/01/11 ~ 09/15/2011 from Newegg.com and Newegg.ca. One rebate per household." dammit.. missed that line. I tried reading all the fine print first.

Probably will not be able to get 1000mhz ...
This is simply just not true. I have 14 5830s, and 12 are running at 1020/300. 1 is at 995 and the other is at 1000.

I've been mining on rfcpool
Well run pool, nicely organized web site, coders always hang in their irc channel.
Very happy with the payout system. It's PPLNS.

at this rate, it's hard to believe the pool will be sustainable given it's current hash rate

I get the same issue with my Gigabyte Direct CU 5830 video cards... even when i set teh fans at 100% the fans are only reported as 67-68% speed
ya same here. using 11.8 from the sound, i'm sure the fans are at 100%, it just appears that the readback is wrong.

You cannot run 5 gpus without at least one of them being powered. 4 will work. 5 will overload the power that can be provided by the pcie bus.

Doesn't seem too popular just yet but I think as more people check it out they'll gain some traction.
It will, as soon as this group of people starts thinking rather than just going with 'whatever is the biggest pool'. Could you explain what you mean by that? I didn't understand it.
