921  Other / Archival / Re: BEWARE Exodus is scam on: October 08, 2017, 01:04:54 AM
You should move this to the scam board.

And you should also provide much more information about this accusation. There is a format for that which you should follow. If you can't provide that information, the accusation will remain just that.. an unfounded accusation with no evidence backing it and people here will take it with a grain of salt. You should support and qualify an accusation with evidence (chat and payment logs, for example).

The proper scam report format is found here:

922  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling New UK Paypal + Ebay Accounts on: October 08, 2017, 12:56:22 AM
This is the kind of offer which nurtures and sustains scams. On the one hand, you have the seller selling something which obviously someone will buy not so he can send money to his grandma but for something far more sinister..

Then you have the buyer who (I'm sure) wants this account to receive money for bitcoins (or for craigslist frauds), fully aware of the reversibility risk and probably even exploiting that risk.

Trading these accounts might not be illegal but then again you have the fraud factor here. The account will almost always be used for fraudulent purposes.

Posts like this should be tagged with the brightest red possible.

923  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor or Paper Wallet? on: October 08, 2017, 12:49:24 AM
I actually prefer a paper wallet. Electronic wallets are good and nice and secure but like any other electronic gadget they are at risk of being damaged or corrupted. Some of them are also not future-proof and might not work on future systems. So keeping them forever as your sole bitcoin repository might not be a good idea.

In defense of these electronic wallets, they have more features than a simple paper wallet and allows one to spend directly from such wallets. They are also good cold storage wallets.

As for a paper wallet, you can keep multiples of the recovery phrases or private keys in a safe location or even ask family members to keep them in different places. A paper wallet is cheap but ultra secure.
924  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So how much privacy do we really need? on: October 08, 2017, 12:34:18 AM
Anonymity is secondary to me. I don't do illegal things so I am not concerned about the KYC and AML rules. It's knowing I am dealing with a legitimate entity, exchange, person etc that matters to me most. With legitimacy comes peace of mind.

I know privacy matters to most here and is perhaps even their primary reason for using bitcoin. But it comes with a price. As you can see, banks are reluctant to partner with exchanges that offer total anonymity to those they engage with. Governments are just as reluctant to accredit and recognise such exchanges. The reality is we live in a world where control is the key word. Governments control our lives and money. Changing that will not be an overnight process. Fighting that power and control is a difficult war. They have the means and tools to build walls and enforce sanctions which are powerful ways to keep people on a short leash.

925  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Identity manager in the making - your thoughts? on: October 07, 2017, 11:58:00 PM
Entrusting a new service with one's most personal, confidential and sensitive information, biometrics even, is a formidable trust issue. It's not just about winning your users' consent to willingly part with and disclose that information. It's also about ensuring without a shred of doubt that this identity manager is secure and sustainable and is designed with robust protection systems to prevent information leakage or misuse. That's the main challenge.

There are established credential managers in the market and they all have to contend with security breaches as a very real risk element. And this they have to do and keep in mind 24/7/365.

Where you keep the information and who has access to that information and how that information is protected are the core questions you will need to address thoroughly.
926  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: just what is escrow? on: October 07, 2017, 11:49:47 PM
Need some little infos bout this

It is a scammer's worst nightmare. That's what it is.

With escrow, the chance of a successful scam is significantly reduced.
With escrow, there is a lower risk of being financially raped.

A - B - C

You're either A or C. B is the escrow. The middle man. The mediator. B is what prevents C from scamming A and vice versa.

Using escrow will keep your losses and risks at a minimum.

927  Economy / Reputation / Re: why i'm still in negative trust on: October 07, 2017, 11:41:28 PM
Even if you stop your "untrustworthy behavior" that doesn't change what you are: untrustworthy. Not worthy of being trusted. Worthy instead of being watched out for since behavior is usually a lasting thing. Difficult to break or change.

So maybe the red neg trust will go away if you can prove you are trustworthy again. Not if you stop the behavior you were accused of. It will take time for that to happen. Habits are difficult to break.
928  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How safe are crypto exchanges? on: October 07, 2017, 11:22:56 PM
They are as safe as their word and nothing more. The only safe wallet is one with private keys you and you alone control.

If someone other than you controls and has access to your private key, you never really own the bitcoins.

In the case of exchanges, they act as custodians (just like banks which safe-keep your money in their vaults). But if you look at the bank analogy, the physical money (the cash) is in their possession (in their vaults) and they can take full ownership of it any time and any day. You are at their complete mercy. When you look at your balances on their online banking site, it's just that... numbers on the screen. They can block that money anytime. The money is only yours when you have it in your possession.

The same applies to crypto exchanges. They control the private keys and you need their permission to access your coins. Some are considered safe exchanges (such as the licensed ones.. Bitstamp for example). Some will screw you deep and bad (such as Yobit).

929  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 0.02 btc loan on: October 07, 2017, 11:07:34 PM
What everyone will say to get money. This is really sad but I can't help feeling amused by all these creative stories. With a little more effort, these wanna-be borrowers can earn a living from writing fiction stories. Makes good bedtime reading.

Most do not have collateral and want the loan on the strength of a vague promise to repay it whenever. Not many will have the altcoins to secure a loan but they still deserve the red for trying their luck with frivolous posts.

930  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e Operator Arrested For $4 Billion Money Laundering Scheme on: October 07, 2017, 11:00:34 PM
The US will always get their man. That's what power is all about. The power to coerce other countries to give up fugitives and extradite them to US soil, American or otherwise. The power to instill fear in other countries if they refuse extradition requests. It's actually a subtle form of blackmail. If you do not give him to us, we will impose economic and diplomatic sanctions on your country.

The Greeks see no advantage in keeping him imprisoned in Athens and feeding him gyros and tzatziki for years while making the Americans unhappy so they will almost always relent.

It's no surprise then that all these exchanges are increasingly making sure that everyone on their books are properly KYC'd and AML'd etc.

931  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Have [BTC] Need PayPal on: October 07, 2017, 11:07:10 AM
Showing all the red flags and danger points of a fraudster. Be careful when dealing with this opportunistic scammer (and all those serial cheats perpetrating these scams).

Good to see him exposed quickly and ruthlessly. Next step: tag him with the bright red colors he deserves. I know he will be back with a new account but there is some satisfaction and joy in seeing their time wasted.

932  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Debit Card will STOP on: October 07, 2017, 10:53:46 AM
Hello all,
Need a list of relieble services with non MyChoice/Wavecrest card issueing.

WageCan is a reliable bitcoin debit card. I also have a Mistertango card.

Both cards work flawlessly. Both cards are not issued by Wave Crest.

I’m not aware of other card services, apart from the two companies I mentioned above.

Both are life savers. I used to load all my bitcoins on my Cryptopay card but they are temporarily not offering any cards.
933  Economy / Exchanges / Re: how much virwox fees when converting from paypal to btc ? on: October 07, 2017, 06:56:55 AM
Rates and conversion margins will always be bad in a bitcoin/paypal transaction because of the inherent risks involved. Some people turn a blind eye to those risks or live in denial. The bitter truth and ice-cold reality one needs to learn to face and accept is the risk of reversibility of PayPal payments and the higher incidence of and potential for fraud when you marry bitcoin with PayPal.

Yes, PayPal is convenient. Yes, not all PayPal users are scammers. These however do not negate the dangers and risks which are difficult to ignore, even when dealing with honest PayPal users. It’s not just the PayPal user but PayPal itself which shamelessly allows payments to be reversed and disputed up to 180 days.
934  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Debit Card will STOP on: October 07, 2017, 06:37:31 AM
I recommend using the WageCan golden card. I have it and it works flawlessly. The card is not issued by Wave Crest. WageCan operates in a stable jurisdiction with a sound and solid economy.

There is a KYC process which is easy and not complicated.

The best thing about this card is that there are no geographic restrictions. And the cards work worldwide.
935  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC sent to mixer but company is dissolved on: October 06, 2017, 10:14:56 AM
Which mixer is that? If it's bitmixer.io you should have checked. There is a prominent red warning on their homepage alerting that they stopped their service.

Are you sure you sent it to a legitimate mixing service?

Bitcoin is universally known to be irretrievable. The one and only way to retrieve your coins is for the receiver to send the coins back to you.

Care to share which mixing service you sent the coins to? You should have used a reputable and solid one (like the one on my signature). I know it's too late to offer this advice but if you can provide more information about this problem, then it could help and serve as a warning for others here to avoid it.

936  Economy / Goods / Re: -25% OFF only for BitcoinTalk users on: October 06, 2017, 10:08:05 AM
Trust is core and central to all crypto transactions. If you can overcome this barrier and establish a stable and solid reputation (yes, I know, everyone has to start somehow) I'm sure it will be smooth sailing with future transactions. It's always that first challenge of dispelling everyone's doubt and skepticism that you need to pass and overcome.

Here's wishing your business all the best and a good start. The 25% discount is a good way to attract buyers but (and don't take this the wrong way) usually also a red flag because it can be seen as a way to lure or tempt people to take the bait.

937  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Debit Card will STOP on: October 06, 2017, 09:01:41 AM
Well, they returned the card fee (and DHL fees) for both my USD and EUR cards so this is a solid indication that they intend to discontinue the contactless cards. I hope they will find a replacement card system quickly. And hopefully it will be a lasting and stable one.

These are sad developments. I still have full faith in Cryptopay. Their cards (and that iOS app!) never failed me. Wave Crest's cards were really good and solid. Sad to see Visa restricting the rest of the world. Visa, being a US company... there might be a connection there. Just healthy speculation on my part but the government might be playing a hand in all these deals in an effort to tighten its grip on the bitcoin community.
938  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BurstCoin Asset KOHINOOR is a SCAM on: October 06, 2017, 05:11:30 AM
Be careful of these fly by night so called ICO projects popping up like mushrooms all over the world wide web. Most of them are fraudulent schemes and some are designed for one purpose: to steal.

Also, be careful of shills and vouches and members here who try to play down accusations in the hope that it would allay fears or panic among those who might have already injected funds into these schemes. Some will ask for evidence, knowing perhaps that accusers will or might find it hard to produce such evidence if the fraud was an elaborate one involving multiple scammers acting as shills and fake vouches.

Approach these so-called coins with extreme caution. Due diligence is a must and should not be ignored. Don't invest any money without clearly understanding which persons are behind these schemes and what their backgrounds and true names are.

939  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [URGENT!!!!!!] CEX.IO BANNED MY ACCOUNT IN 5 DAYS, REASON: PEPS* on: October 06, 2017, 03:01:42 AM
This arbitrary labeling as a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) without verifiable and solid evidence backing that label is troubling and disturbing. I might be tempted to guess it's more about your country of origin and a bias or prejudice one or more of their staff feels towards your country.

If they can properly address your concerns here and/or resolve your concerns or explain with solid evidence the reason for the PEP label, I will rescind my statement above.

940  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Want to Buy BTC for paypal - Looking for regular trade on: October 06, 2017, 02:02:51 AM
You might have forgotten that PayPal is a high risk payment method and can be reversed up to 180 days from payment date. Not even escrow can protect or prevent a reversal so I’m not sure how you intend to guarantee this will not happen. Your account here is not exactly the kind which can be seen as trusted or risk free.

This is the reality behind any PayPal payment. Nothing personal.
