781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get profit when have PC is idle and unused in home on: September 22, 2023, 05:08:28 AM
It's clear enough make me lose when mining Bitcoin or top coin market cap.
You can't mine Bitcoin with GPU anymore, it can be done only via ASICs.

So what should I do to earn profit when have a PC not used and lying idle in my home?. I have armagedon 29' monitor, core i5 9 generation, 16 GB Ram and GPU 1030 GTX 2GB. I actually intend to mining, but I don't know what coins I can mine with my PC specification.

Even if you want to mine altcoins which has any worth it can't be done with your GPU hash power you need multiple powerful GPUs which is decent enough to mine coin like ETC or something and I used some mining calculator which gave me an estimation of GT 1030 can generate more than 2.22 USD monthly income with a 8.67 MH/s hashrate on the RVN - KawPow (NBMiner) algorithm.

This means better not to mine at all with your machine, or you are just risking your hardware to wreck merely for nothing.

however you can consider mining ETH.
No one can mine ETH anymore since  Ethereum (ETH) has transitioned from a Proof of Work (PoW) to a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism as a part of its Ethereum 2.0 upgrade which happened in 2022.

If you insist on mining BTC you can get a computer with better computation power  and don't forget to consider the electrical cost in your locality before venturing mining as it is very power consuming.

Mining BTC with GPU and CPU years are over a very long time and even with ASICs its highly difficult to make profits with the current mining difficulty of the BTC network.
782  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seniors apply patience and kindness to newcomers on: September 21, 2023, 08:08:00 PM

It's true that some posts from newcomers may be of low quality or show a lack of willingness to learn initially. However, I believe that giving them a chance and treating them with kindness is a reasonable approach.

First of all, not every newbie is a newcomer to bitcointalk most of the newbie accounts are created with the purpose of asking silly questions over and over again just to troll everyone around. And people who are experienced enough to understand these trolls pick them up and give the best possible experience for them which they deserve to have.

Secondly, this is an online forum so if you are coming here then obviously you need to get thicker skin that is the only to accept the criticism about them and grow up beyond that.
783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secure Your Legacy, Educate Your Loved Ones on: September 21, 2023, 06:32:17 PM
If you are someone who accumulated so many assets then you should be prepared for your family can access it if you are no more no matter if you are young or old because life is unpredictable so never take a chance with that.

Using Locktime for inheritance planning, backups or gifts is one of the best possible ways to lock your assets for your kids for certain years and they will have access to it. But I just want to remind you that never forget your health and life insurance which will act as an emergency fund for your family even if it makes them a fortune for their remaining life.

Honestly, it is one hell of a fear that every man holds with them so never forget about leaving what you made in your life to your family, and hopefully it's not a debt.
784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet.Dat Help on: September 21, 2023, 04:16:52 PM
Recently I have recovered and old wallet of mine from a really old laptop. I used to have Bitcoin Core on it but I have forgotten the password. By checking the wallet on the blockchain it shows it has just over 1 BTC but in the application it says balance not available.
First of all, make sure that your wallet has a balance by visiting any of the Bitcoin blockchain explorers. Bitcoin core is supposed to show the balance but you are saying the balance is not available.

Do you have the slightest idea about the complexity of the password? Like at its length, whether you used digits, special characters, etc.? If so, then you might be able to recover the funds.

Which services did you reach out to by the way? This one[1] is trustworthy. I dealt with him before, but make sure to do your own research first.

[1] https://www.walletrecoveryservices.com/
Wallet recovery services are the only legitimate recovery services available as far as I know so try contacting them. But if he might have any idea about few words in the password then he might able to crack it on his own with tool such btcrecover .
785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Validation speed for bitcoin transactions. on: September 20, 2023, 06:12:27 PM

Does this mean that if two  Bitcoin transactions are carried out simultaneously, the transaction with larger block chargess would likely be validated before that of lower transaction fees?

Validation and confirmation are different, so what miners do is confirmation and that is what you are talking about as well so let's leave the validation part here.

Miners can pick a transaction even with a lower fee over a higher fee transaction but rationally they are going to pick the TXs which will incentivize them more which means the higher the TX fee the TX will be confirmed sooner.

But TXs are confirmed in blocks so it can contain TX with 200sat/vbyte as well as 20sat/vbyte still the TX will get confirmed at the same time. So it depends on which block the TX is included in and when they are mined.
786  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there anything unusual in these screenshot? on: September 20, 2023, 04:27:52 PM
No, they do not owe anyone an explanation because this is all speculation, and most of the merits received are from high-ranking members from his locale and the English board.

I'm not sure if Op posted this because he values the merit system or because he wants to eliminate competition, as both accounts he posted applied for the same signature campaign he did.  Cool
No, I didn't say they owe an explanation but their name came up and the local board is involved with the accusation of something suspicious from the same local board if they keep their mouth shut then it will feel like there is something as Op said, isn't it?

I don't really know what is the point of this thread!

787  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there anything unusual in these screenshot? on: September 20, 2023, 06:33:06 AM
But the important part here is that he has to reveal something instead of just asking someone else to dig deeper about possibility of abused the merit system.

but if the accounts make mistakes such as using the same bitcoin address or something similar, then accusations can be justified.
Actually you should blame the users who mentioned the username, @OP was only show the merit flow.

Blame us for what, exactly? Mentioning someone's username to provide context to the discussion is perfectly fine as far as I am concerned. I did not accuse anyone of anything. I even offered one possible explanation for the merit flow the OP noticed.

And it's not that hard to find too...Roll Eyes

It's easy to find who you're talking about, just not from Mobile.

Have those mentioned users ever made any comments about the discussion going about them?

Possibly they can give the best possible explanation for this than others or members from the local boards at least. Or else there is something as OP accused. Smiley

788  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum, Android version! on: September 20, 2023, 01:15:16 AM
I have a wallet on laptop, I also have the android version on my phone, but when I tried to import my seed from laptop wallet to my phone wallet, whatever seed words I entered didn't activate the "next" button on the screen, so I was wondering why nothing worked at all
It means the application has bugs, make sure its the updated version.

And follow this

1. Choose "Create a new wallet" and click "Next."
2. Select "standard wallet option" and click "Next".
3. Choose "I already have a seed".
Then try entering your seed words now it should work, and if still now try contacting devs and report this bug.

and also another Q, if I encrypt my laptop wallet with password, all the keys generated by the seed would be inaccessible from any other device even if I have the seed?

But if I don't set a pass, anyone having my seed could access my keys from anywhere right?

Wallet encryption has nothing to do with the seeds, it just encrypts the wallet file so if someone tries to copy the wallet file from Electrum and use it on another device then it won't be recognized.

You can import the wallet via seeds or the address via private keys to any other wallet and device no matter if you encrypt the seeds while you generating them.

Since you’re posting on electrum board then I assume it is about electrum.
Never forget to read the title buddy! Cheesy
789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unusual mnemonic seed and alternative recovery options on: September 19, 2023, 08:46:08 PM

The second one. Only problem is that when she entered the email address in the login page, she didn't get any verification email, so she probably changed the linked email account in her blockchain.info settings but doesn't remember.

She tried to login with the wallet ID instead of email, which asked for her password, which then gave a "Authorization required, check your email" message. So I'm assuming she also had two factor authentication.

It's not 2FA authentication, it's authorization required when you log in from a new device.

So in both scenarios, you didn't get the authorization email which means you are using the wrong email for logging in.

or something like this Problem with blockchain.com (I not receive anymore authorization email).
790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The best way to use fingerprint to unlock your bitcoin wallet on Android on: September 19, 2023, 06:22:57 PM
Just another layer of security that is good on any platform, by this method you are opting out both fingerprint and PIN/password to enter into your wallet instead of one.

This is not going to protect against malware attacks or anything like that but surely it is good to tackle in a situation when someone is trying to access your phone physically without your permission.
791  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow wallet webcam help on: September 19, 2023, 05:04:48 PM
Will sparrow wallet work with a webcam? My (older) laptop camera doesn't seem able to scan an animated qr code.
On linux fyi
Thanks in advance!

If you can see webcam visuals when you click the camera icon on Sparrow Wallet then most likely your webcam is not good enough to capture the QR codes. And you mentioned it as an old laptop then the webcam resolution will be a lot less and even it's not great in new-gen laptops.

You can add an external webcam if a QR code scan is your primary need just go with the copy-paste method (which I always prefer).
792  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Friendly note: You might want to be careful of the so-called arbitrage trading on: September 19, 2023, 02:03:45 PM
So you are saying exchanges are locking/suspending accounts or trades because they believe the person is doing arbitrage trading?

I don't think so and there is no reason for them to do so because they are not going to lose anything even the other exchange because it is going to bring more transaction fees and withdrawal fees for them which mostly contribute to the exchange's profits.
As much as I wasn't directional in that, it's not impossible. And if I may ask, have you ever tried to research how exchanges lock accounts and give no valid reason for some? Maybe that will tell you why you should be protective of your account without drawing suspicious activity to it to avoid giving them an edge to do so.
Exchange accounts are locked/terminated for various reasons but if any exchange is done without valid reason then the exchange's reputation is at stake here. As far as I know, arbitrage trading is not against their terms as I said previously so even if they prove that you are doing it still it can't be a reason to serve to lock your funds.

793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are You Tax Efficient With Your Gambling Habbits? on: September 17, 2023, 06:04:09 PM
In my country, I need to report gambling winning as part of my income and about 10% has to be paid as tax but I don't remember the exact figure since I haven't gambled on fiat-based casinos for very long where the winnings will be credited after deducting the tax amounts.
I report the gambling income in the form of capital gains cause that is the highest slab and I am not in much profit so I won't be paying much difference in the fiat value but for a high roller, they need to report depending on their country policies and find loopholes such as exceptions to avoid paying huge lump as tax.
794  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: lightning network raspberry PI newbie on: September 17, 2023, 02:07:22 PM
You can earn a few sats with a decent amount of BTC via routing the payment but when you calculate the running cost probably it will end up as a net loss, so don't set up LN with the intention of making money.

Read this part below to get an idea of how much you can actually make via the LN node.

.
.

How much money can you make on running a Lightning Network node?

Unless you have a lot of coins, your earnings won't be enough to cover both hardware and maintenance costs. If you are already running a full node to support the network then a small Lightning node won't put much stress on your hardware.

I have been running a small node (6 channels; ~0.10 BTC capacity) for about 3 months now. I earned over 500 satoshi in the first month during which I was experimenting a lot with my fee settings for each channel. In the second and the third month I earned ~110 and ~160 satoshi respectively without paying much attention to my node. If you want to see up-to-date stats, check out The Lightning Network node experience thread.

795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Current best software for Lightning with full bitcoincore? on: September 16, 2023, 08:26:17 PM
I may need soon a LN node. What is in your humble opinion currently the best LN software with bitcoincore? Coding language used, long term support, ease of installation, features, etc? Why? Many thanks in advance for your inputs.

Raspiblitz may work for you if you are looking for a more automated version of Raspibolt and are ready to spend around $400 for the entire setup.

https://github.com/raspiblitz/raspiblitz : build your own Lightning & Bitcoin Full node on a RaspberryPi with an optional Display.

There are a lot of option that depends on the purpose of your node, and how much amount you can ready to spend, but I want to remind you that running an LN node for profit making is a bad idea, and already threads regarding this are available on bitcointalk in case if you want to refer.

The issue on it is also old and not updated for a year https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/7544

It has been almost 2 years since they mentioned "No ETA, but it is on the TODO list." on their GitHub page. Also, there is no relevant information regarding taproot updates on Electrum on any other forums but they won't take too long since other wallets are already supporting single sig taproot addresses so it's almost time to see them on Electrum too.
797  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there anything unusual in these screenshot? on: September 16, 2023, 03:44:02 PM
These two boards don't have their own local boards yet, so is it possible to put them in charge of the moderation of those two specific boards to moderate this type of unusual behavior? Is that even possible? I am not sure!
The only possible and effective solution is for signature campaign managers to add an ignore list. Anyone on that list will be banned from participating in signature campaigns. It is updated weekly and members are reviewed once a year (if their behavior changes).

Also, campaign managers should review the overall post quality of the member if they are accepting in their campaign, not simply based on how much merits they earned in the last 120 days or so which will bring an end to this account farming via local boards where merits are generously shared.

The SMAS list you shared is old compared to this : [SMAS] My list of users banned from sig. campaigns

But you can find the compiled individual SMAS list from every campaign manager from Overview of Bitcointalk Signature Anti-Spam Campaign Managers

798  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there anything unusual in these screenshot? on: September 15, 2023, 06:44:32 PM
2nd one is pretty hard to find because my keyboard is limited,

As for the other member in the screenshot, I have no clue about who he is.
The other person is 2Pizza410000BTC. It took a few pages of browsing and matching the merit history from the screenshot shared by OP.

It is probably due to the low number of active members in both local boards so the one who has merits is trying to encourage them to keep the upcoming members active and it's usually the case when the active members are fewer.

Every local board has different source merit allocations from merit sources and every source has different meriting habits so you cann't get the same kind of treatment from your local board.

I can't able to read those posts to determine the quality of posts but it's true that the members received most of the merits from local boards while they equally posted the number of posts in global sections.
799  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i get a functional wallet on: September 15, 2023, 04:40:13 PM

Electrum wallet is :
1 It's open source
2. Supports multiple currency
3. It's compatible etc

1. Yes,
2. Electrum supports only bitcoin and there is a separate Electrum wallet for LTC but as I said it is a separate wallet.
3. Compatible with most but taproot update is the long overdue in electrum, hopefully we may see taproot support from electrum soon.

For other coins you should use unstoppable wallet. It supports many cryptocurrencies and is open source like electrum wallet
Unstoppable wallet is a good choice for mobile which is available in both IOS and Android but it's not available for PC and also its not support many coins like coinomi yet.

Currently, it supports a total of 116 assets including tokens: https://www.cryptowisser.com/wallet/unstoppable-wallet/coins?page=1

For PC users who store a lot of shitcoins and don't want to dump them in the hardware wallet then Coinomi is still their option which is a closed source but supports more coins and tokens compared to any other multi-crypto wallet.
