Trolls are market makers, but plain cheerleaders won't see it. We are smart, we are strong, we are legion.

You never know the real motivations behind trolls trolling or what they are doing.
You are boring.
1142  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2014, 06:28:58 AM
ghetto rats looting and burning down their own neighborhoods is called a "civil war".
That kind of trolling isn't nearly good enough to get the job done.

Too many people are getting first hand reports of what's going on to be fooled.

You'll need to up your propaganda game if you want to be effective.
1143  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2014, 06:07:32 AM
Wouldn't a civil war cause BTC prices to go up?  Even the appearance of such?
Apparently not, because it's happening right now.
What it all about? Have I miss something?

bitcoin is going to end soon, you have to let go
No, you can't have my coins. Get your own.
1146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2014, 04:43:19 AM
Maybe the price is going down because too much of the Bitcoin infrastructure is in the US and it looks like a civil war just started.
1147  Other / Meta / Re: Why is the Altcoin Section so neglected? on: August 13, 2014, 08:36:40 PM
There are people who don't have that entire section on their ignore list???
1148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is CIA or NSA project (excessive moderation of topic suggested by ibt) on: August 13, 2014, 07:23:04 PM
Ok, but am I right in my understanding that it's a direct rumor? (you are saying it). Still better than complete hearsay Wink
I did not attend Defcon, so I have no first hand knowledge.
1149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is CIA or NSA project (excessive moderation of topic suggested by ibt) on: August 13, 2014, 07:21:47 PM
useless discussion imo, how deep the rabbit-hole goes? how deep you want.
It doesn't matter anyway - they are largely paper tigers.

The CIA and NSA do not have the necessary human capital with which to counter Bitcoin as a social and political movement.

Sure, they have lots of money and resources, and immunity from the law, but in the end they are an organization composed of people, and those people don't have what it takes.

They skated through the last decade by milking patriotism the 9/11 attacks for all their were worth, but that's over now. Their employees are disgruntled, disillusioned, and ageing.

As far as Bitcoin is concerned CIA/NSA agents are punch-clock villains. Ultimately disgruntled employees who are just going through the motions can't win a war of ideas against people who actually believe in what they are doing.

they've been here since at least 2011 when it went to 32.  their desperation was palpable.
Speaking of desperation, I hear the mood isn't all great at Defcon this year.

Nihilism, indifference, maybe even a hint of despair.

Perhaps not coincidentally, there are no Bitcoin talks at defcon this year.

How absurd is that? The hands down most interesting thing happening in the tech world right now and not one word about it at Defcon.
1151  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: August 13, 2014, 07:04:04 PM
most of the trolls around here don't realize that they'd have to take the price down to single digits to inflict any losses on to many of us.  if it just stayed where it is today, many of us could retire tomorrow.
I think the trolls realize that Bitcoin is a war of secession and are working for the other team.

This isn't some game - we're taking direct aim at their paychecks, perks, and pensions and they aren't going to just give those up without a fight.

Sorry man, I went to bed shortly after this post. but... Take a look at the mining pool chart, all big miners are pools, that pay out individuals, so they would not be able to buy those coins. The biggest private pool mines less the 20% of the coins. That is the biggest chunk they can buy from one entity. I am a miner and I hoard my coins, so they aren't buying them off market. This goes for 80% of the coins mined
What percentage of miners actually withdraw their coins from the pool and hold them in their own wallets?

Any pool operator that ends up holding a substantial amount of other people's coins will be tempted to sell them now and deal with the consequences later.
1153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is CIA or NSA project (excessive moderation of topic suggested by ibt) on: August 13, 2014, 06:51:13 PM
This sounds like mere rumors. Any proof?
Not that I can share, so you should probably just treat it as a rumour.
1154  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: August 13, 2014, 06:49:29 PM
my biggest fault is underestimating just how stupid ppl can be.  as long as the protocol is intact, Bitcoin is good.  every day that goes by w/o a hack or major bug strengthens the cause and message.
As far as I'm concerned, Bitcoin is fine at this price since I don't rely on trading or speculation for income.

Thanks to Bitcoin, my income is location-independent. My savings are also location-independent and not remotely confiscatable.

Low exchange rates means my income has increased if I use Bitcoin as my unit of account (which I do).
1155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is CIA or NSA project (excessive moderation of topic suggested by ibt) on: August 13, 2014, 06:46:07 PM
I've heard that Bitcoin talks were banned at defcon this year via orders from high up in the organization, and vendors were instructed not to accept Bitcoin.

That's not the kind of rules I'd expect at the CIA's and NSA's most important recruiting event if Bitcoin was their project.
1156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 13, 2014, 05:36:46 PM
A lot of people here probably don't even trade and just hodl cold storage coins.

Probably the majority.
Some of are using Bitcoin as it was intended - as a way to secede from the USD.

When your income is delivered via btc, and your expenses can increasingly be paid directly in btc, you gain independence from fiat currencies.

Does a dip matter to traders? Maybe.

Does a dip matter to people with a steady income? Not really. Low prices just mean you can accumulate more coins.

Bitcoin's real value is independence - income independent of location, savings independent of imaginary lines on maps, financial autonomy.
1157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 13, 2014, 05:58:47 AM
It's so weird how all the people who give up on Bitcoin as a failed experiment feel the need to stick around and comment on the discussion forums of said failed experiment.

It seems like it happens over and over again...
1158  Economy / Speculation / Re: The only reason Bitcoin is more valuable then other altcoins on: August 13, 2014, 01:25:57 AM
Bitcoin is valuable because it's an sufficiently large improvement over what came before, invented by someone who understood money and cryptography both at the same time.

None of the altcoins have all three of those qualities at the same time.

Most of them are monuments to ignorance about cryptography, or money, or both.

I guess I'm almost to the next level (Legendary) except I was randomly chosen to wait a little bit longer.

As was I.
I feel robbed.

Speaking of Satoshi Nakamoto, I have a "historical" question.  When he set up the first mining node and started the current blockchain, did he see it as "the" blockchain, that one day would be used to buy servers from Dell, support investment funds, send people to jail, etc.; or did he think of it as an alpha-test of the protocol, that would be used only by computer nerds, only long enough to show that the idea was sound?

(IIRC there is nothing about that in the published paper.  Did he comment on that in his "epistles"?)

Yes.
