No its a refresh, anyone paying the high cost for Vega will notice the difference in price and performance I think.
Higher speeds but I think this just puts the card where 480 can already overclock to, to make it offical.  So it remains to be seen if the 580 can do as well and move performance higher?

Mostly the release should benefit the company and allow them to make the technology more cheaply and reliably, in time prices will drop sub $100 even.

Heres an old article for VEGA technology which seems to be much more of an advance and unknown in its possibilities.    What I came to ask is if anyone can guess how well might VEGA do crypto mining or will it even be able to.   The vertical memory and cache system looks to be an interesting system
http://www.hw4all.com/amd-vega-hbm2-memory-compute-engine/

Yes, I'm very interested to see if the RX 580 will let memory go faster than the best 480's.  Samsung GDDR5 perhaps.  It would be great if this pushes prices down on 480's or new 580's too.

Thanks for the link, STT. I'll review that for sure.

AMD pulled 470/480 production already so aside from what's left in the channel it's only the 570/580. Board layouts are a bit different, have some samples on the way shortly to test with, hoping for incremental improvements but not necessarily..
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Custom RAM Timings for GPU's with GDDR5 - DOWNLOAD LINKS - UPDATED on: April 04, 2017, 01:58:55 AM
I have been watching this thread with anticipation of jumping into the RX480 world.
Last week tried to order a bunch of MSI RX480 X Gaming 8GB.  Both Jet and B&H Photo said were in stock.  Just got an email from both saying manufacturer shortage.  They each cancelled the order. Sounds to me like Vega release might be imminent.
Sorry, I know it's off topic, sort of.

Vega release IS imminent (May or June). Also the 500 series Polaris rebrands which will be the direct replacement are due this month.

It was not the Vega release, but the 500 series parts, same ASIC as the 400 series cards, and it seems AMD is a bit short on parts so they canned orders across the market...
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: the best riser extraction on: March 31, 2017, 06:10:32 PM
All of those risers are made by the same factory from the same product line, you will do well with any of them, the specifics of your deployment and power setup will dictate which kind you use.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8x GPU mining rig on: March 28, 2017, 12:23:13 AM
Hello, all

Has anybody suceeded in building 8x GPU mining rig on Ubuntu or Win10 ?

I have MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboards and they work great with 7 GPUs.
I tried this adapter http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-4X-Female-to-NGFF-M-2-M-Key-Male-Adapter-Power-Cable-with-Converter-Card-/311414541676 and this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-1X-Expansion-Kit-1-to-3-Port-Switch-Multiplier-HUB-Riser-Card-USB-Cable-/191949792720
Both didn't help to work 8th GPU. Though here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9z5bmjEepQ&t=21s the rig is built.
Please share your expertise in this question

Thanks,
Serge

in that video they are using a 3x1 PCIe expander card just like the one you linked too, the common Chinese ones are a bit unstable but you are missing an important piece regardless which expander you use. the BIOS needs to be edited to support that many GPUs. MSI won't formally support it with that motherboard as MSI did not qual that many lanes on the Z97 but you can hack it to do so, I didn't look close but I would hope that video discusses it because there is no way it won't work without a BIOS edit.
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Strange Timings in ROM Sapphire RX 470 Nitro 8GB on: March 21, 2017, 07:26:32 PM
Opened original ROM of Sapphire Nitro RX 470 8GB to copy timings from 1750 to above and found strange values of timings.
http://imgur.com/a/qpd8u
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to edit this kind of ROM to increase hashrate? I tried to flash this GPU with modified roms from another sources but it bricked every time.

You are using a version of Polaris Bios Editor that does not handle ROMs with multiple sets of straps.. This one should do it https://github.com/IojkinKot/PolarisBiosEditor
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: TRULY Custom RAM Timings for GPU's with GDDR5 on: March 21, 2017, 10:52:53 AM
...finally getting interesting... Smiley

somebody might share Hynix AJR and Sam datasheet perhaps..?

I wonder how the optimized custom timings are related to the given minimal values in the official datasheet?
I mean how loose are the official values, are there even room for improvement below them, or custom straps simply are adjusted to the recommended official values...?

You can find one of the applicable Hynix datasheets online, Samsung I haven't seen posted anywhere
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v8.1 (Windows/Linux) on: March 20, 2017, 03:26:41 PM
Found a real good deal on a Asrock H97 Anniversary and bought it.  Having a problem with it.  The 2nd(16x) and 6th pcie do not recognize the GPUs.  Is there a setting in the Bios that would be able to make the mobo recognize these pcie slots?

You need to force it back to gen2 if I recall correctly.. I used to use them as well and did a bunch of 6 GPU deployments with them but had to force those changes for it to work.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are you the best PandaMiner reviewer we are looking for? on: March 16, 2017, 09:09:46 PM
Hi Pandaminer Team,

Can you integrate this device "RIG RESETTER" into the Pandaminer?

More information at "https://simplemining.net/page/simpleRigResetter"

This device has kept my farm to near 100% uptime by monitoring rigs and keeping them online.

I think this device will only improve Pandaminers overall performance in mining farms.

My current Pandaminer is also running smOS Linux, a mining OS also developed by the same developer.

Very stable Linux OS and also compatible with Pandaminer hardware.

In the Pandaminer, only 4 standard pins is used by this device, following the standard power/reset pin on a standard motherboard.

For your consideration please.

Thanks

citronick

yeah it would make the pandaminer 1 step better then it is now.

I have been told you may sell an 8 gpu model using rx 470's  if so  consider using a gpu card with 8gb ram not 4gb.

My pandaminer  has been mining zec  with 1145 core   2000 mem 1 volt setting ..  on smOS
It just runs and runs and runs

It's a question of supply to some degree.. AMD makes the MXM parts, not the AIBs and with the flip over to the newer cards happening now at the manufacturing level I suspect they are going to run lean on 480 parts in the near term, but can augment with 470 4G parts at maybe $20-30 less per card, resulting in more units and more profit...
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v8.1 (Windows/Linux) on: March 15, 2017, 11:05:32 PM
It would have been more useful to a higher speed of eth Undecided

He mentioned previously he was going to try to squeeze a few percent more out, perhaps it wasn't possible after all..
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v8.0 (Windows/Linux) on: March 12, 2017, 04:26:51 PM
The memory leak must have to do with PAS before I started to mine PAS I did not have the issue but at 13GB memory of usage when I have 16GB memory the miner kept mining but would not actually send out the hash data.  At that point I had to restart it. So probably in the PAS routine.

Glad to hear a new update will be released though soon.

Ask if someone has same issue, I don't see any memory leaks in ETH+Pascal mode.

Not seeing anything here however X windows can cause a memory leak that manifests like this, took me weeks to run it down months ago.. Some X configurations will attempt to buffer when you have X running on GPUs in some configurations, a separate console using another GPU, and it does exactly this... I found it circa 7.x and thought for sure Claymore had a leak so we sent some PMs back and forth but it turns out it was X.. I needed to disable some things to stop it from happening, don't have the specifics in front of me but I did write them down somewhere..
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fried PCIe Slot on: March 12, 2017, 01:44:00 AM
OMG...

LOL I put it in the wrong way. I figured if it was 1, it could be the hardware, but 2x its probably me so before start RMA-ing stuff I better figure out what went wrong.

The mobo isn't reading the PCIe slot. Any hope of salvaging the mobo? I read you could scrub it with a toothbrush and WD40 or something. Hopefully the GPU's aren't bricked.

I've done that before myself, it depends on the motherboard and short on how much can be salvaged but when you reverse it you feed current into the signaling.. It should have killed the riser and most likely motherboard slot but in all cases I've done it (sadly more than one over tired moment) the GPU was fine.
32  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Bitworks 8 GPU 4U rack mount mining rig - 235Mh/s ETH on: February 28, 2017, 12:27:26 AM
How does this work?
$3500 miner... calculator tell's me $1800 profit in a year if everything stays even... Who would possibly buy this? Sad

Obviously it depends on the situation, your power being a big play above and beyond cost.. with that said most buyers buy at least a handful at once, bringing the cost per unit down a few hundred.. Largest buyers have 100+ units each and keep adding to their holdings, obviously volume pricing much better...
33  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Bitworks 8 GPU 4U rack mount mining rig - 230Mh/s ETH on: January 31, 2017, 02:24:40 PM
can you not just plug pci-e risers into a usb 3 hub?

While I am no PCIe riser expert, the fact that there is a USB cable in the picture doesn't mean that it's got USB protocol on it. I expect that the USB cable is strictly a cheap way to carry the PCIe signals on it to the other end. As a result a USB hub won't work in this application.

Well, I did some shoddy math and pci-e 1x only uses 250M/s transfer speeds. usb 3.0 or 3.1 should be able to accommodate that...powering the gpu is done externally anyways?

internet research indicates that the REAL bottleneck is pci-e lanes on your cpu's chipset. not the amount of pcie slots on the motherboard.

I find it hard to believe that a usb 3.0/.1 riser card couldn't handle a gpu.

That is correct, in the case of USB risers, its USB form factor only because its inexpensive to produce.. Its native PCIe 1x over the cable with the various required signaling pins mapped across the cable

Can you sell the case itself?

I missed this question earlier in the thread, it comes up a lot, however not currently interested in selling just the case.

Would you sell a 6 or 7 GPU config system _without_ the PSU? I can get a bunch of cheap EVGA 1300 PSUs so I can save a bit of $ going with a lower power draw configuration. Ideally I'd like power draw at the wall to be 900 Watts roughly while dual mining.

All of the 470/480 units use 1300 EVGA PSUs for exactly that reason, the efficiency cost really works well for them.. The pictures in the thread are from the tuned 380 units that didn't need the additional PSU overhead... I have a functional setup with server PSUs as well, helps me shave the component cost some more and lower unit cost some.. I haven't moved out on it yet due to supply chain unpredictability with the server PSUs but continuing to work it..

I can sell units with less GPUs but generally after people look at the numbers they end up back at 8 due to the cost per Mh..

Look what I found. 8 GPU secret revealed! Smiley
So what are you saying?
That if you get this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0182NRGYO/
Then you can get 8 GPU's to be operational in a configuration just like this one?

It doesn't work. Windows recognizes and installs the driver for the 8th GPU, but there's an exclamation point in device manager.
It says something about not enough resources. The 8th GPU wont be used.

Max I got to work with Windows 10 on MSI Z97 Gaming 5 is 7 GPUs.

It's not a big secret, its funny how many different threads I see with people trying to uncover the mystery of what I did.. I've said a number of times it's the hardware, in short the correct M.2 card, the BIOS (which does need changes for 3XX and 4XX cards due to resource requirements), and a proper OS setup.... A variant of Windows 10 will work, or most recent versions of Linux provided the BIOS has been fixed...
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: M.2 PCI card on: January 25, 2017, 03:19:45 AM
The card itself will work as is for the device types it can support, nothing special needed in Ubuntu, however getting it working correctly with a GPU will be hit or miss with that card, if 8 GPU the goal BIOS work also needed

Hello guys
Does bitmain shop are still stock for T9?!
User @moneroorq send me message that contains a link were and he claims that it can still be order.
but when I go to the site is shown sold out Huh
Is he honest?

While that may be true, do not trust a new account to take care of you, heed the warning
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A review and an apology to forum member ITOP on: January 08, 2017, 03:42:48 PM
Been using these for a few months now, and quite happy with them, have gone through a few hundred and sold over 100 to forum members... We all buy from the same factory to get these, ITOP obviously made a good choice as well...
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Launches Global Sales! on: January 07, 2017, 12:56:39 AM
This site is now offering Pandaminer https://www.eastshore.xyz/shop/ethereum-gpu-miner-eth-zcash-xmr-supported/

Under description it says "full life warranty"... scam site or true?

Cheers from Norway  Smiley

Sound fishy... margins seems to be low for a reseller. Also lifetime warranty... but could be legit, their shop on alibaba seems to be highly rated.

they seems to sell https://www.eastshore.xyz/shop/ethereum-miner-geass-198mh-asic-miner-for-ether-mining/ i didn't knew about this one lol 730W for 198MH that seems low

God forbid US customs gets their hands on you after buying from this site

What are the chances of setting up a group buy to see if we can get a discount as a forum?  Couldn't hurt if we can pool enough orders.  Just a thought.   Grin

The discount schedule is not very exciting, given the pricing as you might imagine they are running fairly thin margins....
