961  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat - Enemy #1, and here's why on: September 03, 2014, 07:00:07 PM

The heat signature of a 4U rig is the equivalent of a 42U rack and most data centers are designed for the density spread out over 42U not 4. It's like trying to cool a heat gun in a shoebox. Very tough. The heat problem (at least here in the US) hasn't been much of an issue because it was winter and heat was a desirable benefit along with the bitcoin mined. There are the liquid cooled solutions that are available, and Martin Enclosures just released a new line of racks - http://www.martinenclosures.com/product/bitrack/ that sound like they were developed to help deal with the heat problem.

This totally confuses me, let's take the most dense system on the market, the SP31, you are tell me most 42U racks don't pull more than 6K Watts (say single NEMA L6-30P)? I am not sure what rock you are living under but I have been running and/or hosting gear in data centers since the 90s and it was a rare rack that had such a low power usage..
962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer L1 - Speculation... on: August 31, 2014, 02:55:51 PM
Nice, they are coming out with scrypt asic, that means litecoin difficulty going sky rocket.

It will only rocket if people think they can get a lot more LTC/Doge or convert LTC/Doge to BTC for cheaper than the price of mining BTC.  But since everybody buying can do the math if everybody buys it nobody wins except Bitmain.  A game of chicken...

LTC went sub $5 again just now.

There is definitely some investment, GAW is on track for $100M in revenue this year..
963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: August 28, 2014, 03:15:15 PM
Is there a place online that selling the PCIe splitter and that sells a high quality one?

Thanks,

contact cablez on here he sent me a fine pair of them

Searing

Thanks,

With respect to these cables, I guess one needs to on the 5th miner so that the power is shared by the two PSU's I buy?

I looked back through threads as much as I could as there is more threads on people complaining about refunds and all that hoopla than there is on actual configuration and testing of the miners with PSU's and these cables. So I am not too clear if I just need to buy one or many, if I need many why?

Thanks,

Do not split a single cube between 2 PSUs, you will mess things up... Use one PSU to power three cubes (with splitters if you like, but all tied to one PSU), and another to power two.
964  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5500 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: August 28, 2014, 02:11:54 AM
Can someone help. I am furious. BTCG user/worker benutzer_1 has hacked my antminer and changed a script file somewhere to redirect to his worker. What will BTC Guild do about this? Short of changing my SSH password which I have now done what else can I do?

UPDATE: Config file for cgminer did not show his pool/worker (priority 0) and a reboot has deleted killed his worker. Now very confused.

Thanks

I'm sorry you appear to have been hacked.  But I don't see how BTCG can help?

I could say my worker was hacked and I should get credit for someone else's work too.  My point is, how can you prove it?

M

It's definitely happening. I can vouch for that.

He's using the cgminer API listener to insert your pool and his account information onto miners with a hole in their default configurations. Sure, shame on the vendor that leaves that hole open, and shame on your member for hacking and stealing from decent people.

He's going to bring that shame on you too. I'd advise you to bounce that user from your pool before he muddies your name. You wouldn't want BTC Guild to become synonymous with "hackers" and "thieves", right?

A few months ago there was a user which started a hacking thread discussing similar things with KNC miners.. I got involved in it because some of his conclusions were messed up but I mention it because in the end he was trying to leverage the thread to distribute malware and was definitely the one targeting miners.. Given the timeline in the replies above perhaps it was the same guy, who still might be at it for all we know..

I have 6 available, all unused extras..

Toss me an offer if you are serious...
966  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [DIY] - Reward $100 | Antminer S1/S3 Blade on Raspberry Pi on: August 22, 2014, 04:33:19 PM
As things stand this is, to an extent, pie in the sky because bitmain REFUSED to release the code for cgminer that they used for the S3. This is important because the code contains the driver for the new chip that is used in the S3.
What is astonishing is that cgminer is opensource and though the author / maintainer of cgminer tried to prevail over bitmain to release the source as per terms of license, last I knew was that bitmain were adamant not to release their code into public domain. I am quietly confident that they will change their stance soon as no organisation can take on the opensource movement and come out of it unscathed.

On a positive note, this can definitely be done with the S1 as the code (and thus driver for the chips) was released and is publicly available. Additionally, the S1 blades are connected by a single flat cable, so in the crudest form, a similar cable but with one end "stacked" with a female / male and the other end being the male would be sufficient to form the chain. Then we need to look at how the mining software uses the driver software to poll / find the chips, and whether we need to make any changes to that.

I am confident that this can be accomplished with an S1 controller board and no need to design a new one.

They uploaded the code includign the S3 support earlier this week, take a look since I may be wrong but I think it's been done and is on github..
967  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 300 Spondoolies-tech SP10's on: August 21, 2014, 02:46:14 PM
Ill buy one today and let the board know if its legit when I receive it. If they are then Ill happily take as many as I can get as long as the price is ok

You and a number of us are in the same boat.. I am in a position to buy all 300 if there is a competitive price that is inline with the market but I'll take my S3s over these any day if they are not priced competitively..
968  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 21, 2014, 10:51:02 AM
You assume a lot of things, and so far your track record isn't that great...

I'm also assuming that you will not have 100% uptime with over 12 S3s Smiley

Edit: Usually my assumptions are based on the past facts, not on guesses.

Perhaps you just are not technically competent to run 12 of something as simple as the S3 Smiley (I couldn't resist)... Seriously both pieces of hardware are solid and arguing this aspect of the conversation is silly..
969  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive BitCrane T-110 Setup [HD] on: August 20, 2014, 12:24:29 PM
I am surprised they just don't speak up on the cgminer issue, I for one would be surprised if they made any changes to cgminer to support this hardware as it's just Hashfast Yoli boards.. If they are talking to it via socket they are in compliance...

With that said if they did make any changes they need to step up and do the proper (and legal) thing and release, although I can't imagine what they would have done since nothing was needed..
970  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive BitCrane T-110 Setup [HD] on: August 20, 2014, 12:21:00 PM
why the hell are these so overpriced?!
Because ppl want to make money and donīt realize that bitcoin mining is no longer a get-rich-quick game.

These particular units use the probably cheapest 28nm chip available, the one from hashfast. (it is the cheapest one because bankrupt hashfast sells them below internal cost)

The PCBs need a bit more than usual mining pcbs, and the watercooled system adds a little to pricing.

However, internal costs of these miners shouldnīt exceed 0.6$/GH, so there is a massive margin.

This may be dated but I can tell you that one of the reasons Hashfast didn't get out of their hole is they were trying to sell things well above market price, I and a few other people had to scrap Hashfast projects using hundreds/thousands of chips/boards because until three weeks ago they were selling at very high prices... I wonder if they committed to Hashfast and almost lost it until things finally started being adjusted..
971  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 19, 2014, 08:59:42 PM
when will we see an S4 ? Tongue

Now that's a really good question, because with such difficulty jumps of more than 20% every 12 days the S3+ is utterly obsolete when they finally start shipping! Shocked

@BITMAIN, you may want to call for a company emergency meeting to discuss canning the S3+ in favor of going straight for the S4 based on 20nm (or better) chip technology. Oh wait, you already have A LOT of S3+ running in your mining farm and have to sell those off first? Good luck with trying to get them going with such well informed customers as you can find here in this thread!  Angry

If you knew how they actually worked and pulled your head out of your ass and dropped the conspiracy theories at every corner you might have a more realistic view of things..

Might be interested in all but can you confirm sustainment cost (monthly, etc.)?
973  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] IceDrill.ASIC IPO (235 Thash Mining Operation powered by HashFast) on: August 04, 2014, 07:21:21 PM
I'm going to post my screen shot for anyone interested. Will is correct that there is a duplication of OPNAME id's. However, the rest of the numbers are different. Draw your own conclusions.

Interested in learning what you are running to manage the systems?
974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 04, 2014, 06:17:28 PM

Please clarify how my comment was stupid.

It is stupid because it shows a complete lack of understanding of life experiences different from your own.
There are many reasons people rent instead of buy. In the USA, they could be compromised financially by medical expenses due to serious illness and sold their home to pay the bills, they could be recently divorced and have lost assets to the SO, they could be young and yet to get into the property racket, they could be priced out of the market due to work circumstances, they could have moved recently new a new part of the country and be renting before they buy, they could be waiting for the inevitable property crash in San Deigo to get in cheap, they could ...

There are a million and one obvious reasons why people might rent instead of buy other than not having prioritized buying a home.
Your remark was stupid because you haven't figured this out. My guess is that you are young white, affluent, middle class and live in North America and haven't travelled much.

There are alot of reasons people rent instead of buy.  They are usually not logical. I could put a valid argument for each example you gave.  I can't say that I have traveled outside the usa at all, but you can't say that people who have 6k worth of mining equipment are disadvantaged.  I bought my first house for less than that.

By no means do I have a poor perspective on people in the usa.  In the us anyone can get a house loan, and again the loan payment and insurance will always be less than rent.  If for some reason the market crashes and they have cheaper prices, you can walk away without penalty. Situations in other 1st world countries are probably similar. For the 3rd world countries, they barely have electricity and internet, I don't think this discussion really applies to them.

Why don't you focus on the mining discussion and avoid brining your personal opinions into it regarding how someone tends to want to live. If you want to get into a conversation about personal choices in home ownership take it elsewhere.
975  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 04, 2014, 12:21:50 AM
Still no movement on he order page or emails for my two orders of 2 B5 S3's each ;-(

And here I thought they wee shipping before he 7th like they said ;-/

Am I missing something, it's only the 4th right now, still a strong possibility as far as I can tell..
976  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: August 03, 2014, 05:06:58 AM
All cores are ON and Jupiter is hashing at 681Gh/s. What does Fault 4 mean?

Code:
7 OFF FAULT 4 11.7 V 0.826 V 23 A (19 W)

i have no idea...i get that too on one of my oct. jups...also get a fault 1 code too...dunno if its overtemp considering i have 2 high cfm fans slapped together blowing on that module and its raised with heatsinks on top n bottom...oh well if it hashes i'm happy

That means the VRM is within 10C of thermal shutdown.. They will run like that but the temps are getting fairly close to the point where the VRMs turn themselves off..
977  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 6 X PepperMining Habanero Hashfast 650Gh/s+ Mining Boards on: August 03, 2014, 01:03:43 AM
Hi there, i have never used the habanero,

Is it just a simple plug into USB and PSU, then mine?

Would you ship to UK,

If so, could you give me a cost for 1-2 Habenero (and include UK shipping)

Yes, plug into USB, PSU, toss on a H80i or similar Liquid cooler and mine...

Drop me a PM with your postcode and I will figure it out..
978  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 6 X PepperMining Habanero Hashfast 650Gh/s+ Mining Boards on: August 03, 2014, 12:14:44 AM
Can we use escrow?

If so I would offer .8 each and I will take all 6, using my DHL account for shipping.

Escrow is no problem.. Thanks for the offer at .8, I have some other interest closer to my asking price so I am going to see how that pans out.
979  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 6 X PepperMining Habanero Hashfast 650Gh/s+ Mining Boards on: August 02, 2014, 07:14:51 PM
I have 6 PepperMining Habanero Hashfast mining boards on the shelf.. I ended up not needing them for a project so I am offering them for sale, I have a number running and all hit 700Gh/s+ or more with H80i, and H100i.. I use Delta fans with the water coolers.

1.4 BTC each OBO + shipping.. FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS are all options...

I can grab a picture later today, they are at my mining facility and I don't have them in front of me.
980  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Want to orginize a local S3 group buy (Salem Oregon) on: July 28, 2014, 02:19:31 AM
Could I get one shipped to Canada somehow?

With B5 open at .64 BTC do you have 1.28 BTC so you can buy two or are you stuck at only enough for one still?
