I checked port 8333 on canyouseeme.org.  Everything checks out, but still 1 connection.  I'll try again later.

I sometimes experience exactly the same problem but most of the time it fully connects. I did not modify my configuration.

An older open source program which also does this job is Blowfish Advanced CS:

Best indicator for large movement in either direction I've observed is an extended period of low volatility...  Grin

Just like earthquakes: tectonic energy builds up, until a sudden release comes and moves everything around.

 Smiley

Or just like sitting in the lavatory randomly reading Women's Day magazine (thanks Horkabork Cheesy) and waiting for the tectonic-energy-release-stuff...  Roll Eyes

Most Operating Systems have inbuilt software to erase free space. The only thing people will need to do is learn to use it

Well, to establish Bitcoin as a mass currency you need a never-thought-about-this-security-feature...
1107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: June 05, 2011, 06:28:28 PM
While I'm bullish for Bitcoin I get sceptical if people only see huge gains and start to imagine incredible future wealth.
There are many risks along the (possible) road to success - many of these risks may not even been known at this point in time.

Reality employs too many variables...
1108  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC = $19?! on: June 05, 2011, 06:08:56 PM
The value of the bitcoin will continue to rise as more individuals decide to enter the bitcoin economy and demand bitcoins. The user base and trade volume of the bitcoin is far below that of any major currency, commodity or stock. Most of the current user base understands this and the fact that if the bitcoin were to become a majorly used currency, its value per unit would have to be many times higher than it currently is given the quantity of bitcoins available (fixed) compared to fiat currencies (rising). So long as the current holders of bitcoins believe the value will continue to rise and new users enter the market, it will. The day you see people taking out mortgages on their homes to buy bitcoins is the day you probably should get out.

I fully agree with this - however a sudden end to BTC caused by some kind of intervention should never be ruled out.

Bitcoin is both high hopes and high risk.
1109  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What happens when the Bitcoin prices are too high and more Miners come online? on: June 05, 2011, 06:01:28 PM
If you can't afford a bitcoin for $100, you can still afford 0.01 bitcoins for $1.

Yes the exchanges could also simply simulate a price split by making - for example MilliBTC - the standard unit.
1110  Economy / Speculation / Re: call an end to the rally on: June 05, 2011, 03:33:19 PM
Here's my prediction:

Bitcoin will hit at least $40 by the end of June, and over $1000 by the end of the year.

..and that may prove to be really conservative.

full ack.

1112  Economy / Economics / Re: Whats wrong with hoarding bitcoins? on: June 05, 2011, 12:56:09 AM
In a deflationary currency like BTC, some goods will be "devaluated" more than others: All goods which serve essential needs will receive higher valuation than any luxury stuff. This could change our way of life substantially. But I don't think this is a bad thing at all...

On the other hand, at some point the BTC valuation gain will slowdown and reach a dynamic equilibrium - there will still be changes in value but not as extreme as we see today, which are mainly caused by a huge influx of people entering BTC (this is far from over).
1113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how many bitcoiners are in the world on: June 05, 2011, 12:16:46 AM
I see there is only 1 download from Libya. I wonder if it's Qaddafi.

I'm sure we'll notice when he connects his gaming machines mining equipment...  Shocked
1114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to call 0.001 BTC? (5 BTC Bounty) on: June 05, 2011, 12:07:57 AM
Bitcoinbonus is probably a scam - my BTC for registration have not been paid since days and now the bonus has simply been cut to a quarter of the original value Angry

You have to claim the bonus.

And the bounty for this is paid.

I'm not referring to the naming-whatever-bounty - I'm referring to the registration bonus which I claimed days ago and was BTC 0.02 at that time, but now has been changed to BTC 0.005. Its status is still "pending". Well that's not much BTC, but I still would appreciate this site paying what has been promised.  Huh

Nein, soweit ich hier aus dem Forum weiß, akzeptieren sie Euro und konvertieren es dann nach aktuellem Wechselkurs in Dollar.

I still maintain that we'll see parity again, though, or something close to it.  This is a speculative market, and has gone through multi-month bear phases before.

I don't think this will happen soon without some serious adverse events (like government intervention or some other kind of attack on the system) - which doesn't mean that I find it unlikely to happen.
