1201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 08, 2013, 04:07:01 PM
in the block explorer, why is there such a disparity on time between block generation?  I thought blocks were supposed to be generated like every 20 secs or some small number
1202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 08, 2013, 07:31:33 AM
can someone explain why quark is more "secure" than bitcoin.  Please don just quote "6 hashes, etc blah blah" please elaborate on the weakness in bitcoin addressed by these 6 hashes.
1203  Economy / Trading Discussion / question on bct-e on: December 07, 2013, 05:50:19 PM
Does BTC-e allow you to buy/sell BTC with USD, and do they maintain a USD account on their site that you can buy/sell on highs/lows to make some $?  If so, what other sites operate this way?  It seems like with coinbase, whenever you buy/sell BTC, they use your external banking accounts.
1204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT vs. eMunie on: December 06, 2013, 10:13:47 PM
Lol I can assure you that I don't know the dev of Nxt at all.

That said, if I did, I would most certainly have fell out with regard to his "QA" practices, so you are semi correct on one point!

I'm going to be a bit brash here, but simply put, NxT (and most other "next gen" cryptos) simply wont be able to compete with the technical quality of eMunie, save for perhaps Invictus Innovations BitShare/KeyHotee and MercSuey's latest paper, nothing comes close.

Well Nxt is already leaps and bounds ahead of emunie.  It sounds like you're jealous and insecure.  I can guarantee you that Nxt will outperform emunie in all aspects.  You already know this yourself, hence your smear comments.  You have posts on your emunie forum discussing Nxt's successes and are trying to emulate Nxt.

as a non-nxt stakeholder, i dont see his statements as smear.  However I have acquired a good bit b/c NXT does look promising, and I thought it a good bet.  IMO he is correct on the QA thing though.  Only recently has there been a slowdown on client updates, and some of them have been very bad.  Some people have lost their NXT (due to their own negligence, yes, but you have to admit there wasnt much of a disclaimer in the client warning of proper use) and I see that as negative publicity.  Also, the POS thing and only 71 stakeholders is other negative publicity.  How long was the notification of buy in before the closing of the buy in?  Yes I understand the nature of the stakeholder investment, but given that it is based on a deflationary model, I am concerned

In contrast, eMu has been in "beta" with what I assume is not real money at stake.  Im not in the beta test so Im not really aware of what all is going on or the planned released features come Jan.  That being said, the notification for prebuyin of emu is vastly longer than NXT, and also I 100% agree with a previous poster regarding NXT being hoarders and EMU being spenders.  Given those 2, my prediction is the  the general public will consider emu much more 'fair'.  Not that Im saying that 'fair' *should* matter, mind you, Im just saying maybe that will be a big thing, maybe not.  Thing is the emu presell is MUCH more expensive than the NXT one.

will be EXTREMELY interesting to see how it works out.
1205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Peercoin VS Quarkcoin on: December 06, 2013, 07:31:06 PM
Well...

Peercoin is secure through energy efficent proof of stake mining.

Quark coin is secure through its "6" different algorithms.

But...

Peercoin is one of the most respected, innovative coins currently out there.

Quark is a pre-mined piece of shit, where 90 percent of coins have been mined by the creators.

When people go to buy a computer they don't make decisions based upon how rich Bill Gates is or how rich Steve Jobs got by building his business.

When people go to invest in a coin they don't care if it's been mined to death or not. They want a good return on their money.

Sorry you didn't get in when it was under a penny.

you also forgot to remind him of how long it was on the open market for under a penny.  he had plenty of chances to get some.  jelly much bro?  of my big QRK stash?
1206  Economy / Speculation / China banning BTC, what if USA does on: December 06, 2013, 06:55:16 PM
Is is generally accepted that this is one of the reasons BTC is dropping in value to USD yesterday and today?  IF so, why?  because there is no longer a large demand for it?

If so, what happens if the US bans it?  Could we expect it to drop more?

1208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PPC] CNBC - Don’t rule out a ban on virtual currencies: Peercoin on: December 06, 2013, 05:37:54 PM
why was peercoin specifically listed in the title of the cnbc article?
1209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My Nxt coin was Sent out by itself. on: December 06, 2013, 01:03:37 AM
you could have used a very weak passphrase.  As we speak there are people cracking on the blockchain looking for passphrases that open up accounts with balances

Looks like we and mastercoin are racing: 300BTC bounty for a distributed exchange on mastercoin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=292628.0
1211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Trading Thread for Nxt :: Descendant of Bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 07:17:13 PM
Regarding the growing concern of large holders and distribution.

Just giving a heads up. I'll be opening a giveaway thread sometime within the next few days. Conditions are, 500 nxt for new nxt accounts of bitcointalk users with an account history of at least 2 weeks and 10 posts. Post your account to receive the nxt. FOR NEW/SMALL HOLDER NXT USERS ONLY.  If the new users are referred to my thread, they should quote the bitcointalk user who referred them and that user will receive 1000 nxt for every 10 new nxt users quoting their name, provided they aren't already a large holder. Large holders should be doing their part to promote nxt, not trying to increase their hoard. Do your part. I will be diligent in making sure my criteria is followed, keeping give away records and checking the blockchain. No nxt will be given to those attempting to abuse the give away, along with a permanent ban from any eligibility and public shaming in my thread . I'm trying to do a good thing for the nxt community don't be a dick and abuse it. This giveaway will be going on pretty much indefinitely. You can imagine this could eat a significant amount of my holdings, but I realize the importance of distribution for a currencies success. Remember. For new/small holder nxt users only.

I'll post an update/link to all relevant nxt threads when I start the give away.

Feel free to repost this wherever you see appropriate.

Very smart. Maybe other stakeholders will follow suit.  Please post this in the nextcoin.org forums and I will sticky it for you.  There is a growing international audience there as well.
1212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Last year I had 3K litecoins and sold them for $5.. now they are worth $90,000!? on: December 05, 2013, 06:56:36 PM
ugh sorry dude.  in a positive note, your error is a teaching point for me.  Ill never sell any of my alts, im investing in a few of them
1213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt's Decentralized Exchange / Asset issuance fee on: December 05, 2013, 06:21:25 PM
your title said exchange/asset, but the poll just said asset...surely everyone is not proposing a 1000 fee for an exchange fee?

That 1000 NXT asset issuance fee seems very excessive, and may cause the feature to not be used frequently (except for very high dollar items, especially if NXT takes off in the future like is hoped).  So the real question is, I think, what kind of assets do we expect to be used here?

Sorry, the title should be read as "Nxt's Decentralized Exchange (Asset issuance fee)".

1000 NXT only in the beginning. Later this can be changed.

Any financial asset.

Is is just me, or would changing something of that nature be considered "less de-centralization"?
1214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BOUNTY] Announcements for Nxt (the first pure POS coin) on: December 05, 2013, 05:29:52 PM
We would like to offer a Press Release for NTX for 0.4 BTC in NXT Smiley

It would be the full service at http://bitcoinprbuzz.com/services

Our clients get published on Yahoo Finance, Google News, Routers, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Wall Street Journal and more!

We will write the Press Release draft and send it to one of the NXT dev team before we start the distribution.

We really like the vision behind NXT and would love to help get the word out!

Looking forward to hearing from you Wink

You can see our main thread here for real testimonials: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=181318.msg3765639#msg3765639

When will we be notified on selection from the candidates for the 100k general article bounty?

1216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PoS -- Is it really that good? on: December 05, 2013, 04:09:39 PM
maybe PoS for a regular 1st generation coin would have the issues you touched on.  what about a crypto currency that had extensible feaures such as colored coins, decentralized peer-peer exchange/dns/chat and so on?  Features that encourages the coin to be used in a transactional model?

1219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Quark is instamined and now coin #4 on: December 05, 2013, 02:50:57 PM
the question is what do you mean by premine,  if you mean premined by the devoloper before release, then your wrong and need to do alot more research and history.

If you mean premine in the way of it got mined before you heard about then probably yes.

its easier to hate then understand.

J

ha ha +1

poor trolls .

can you give us any ideas on quark tanking?

Hm. I login and it says my wallet is zero. I look on block explorer and it says all my coins are present, solely inbound transactions. Should I just wait it out?
