Computer hardware used to depreciate just fine on it's own, but now with hardware being purchased specifically for bitcoin mining, you can actually watch it depreciate on a weekly basis! it's certainly insane on many levels... LOL

DavinciJ15,
- which sdk version is included?
- what version are the drivers? 11.6 by any chance?
- which miner/s does it allow/include?
- is MSI Afterburner supported? if not, how do I overclock and set the fan speed?
Thanks!

Really cannot see the point in this.
Just use Linux. No need for dummy VGA plugs and also no 4 GPU limit !
11.6 drivers increase GPU limit. there's no 4 GPU limit anymore.

I've seen them in electronics stores (maybe Radio Shack), though I saw them at a different shop! I don't know what they're called to google it though! If you can identify which prong is which, you could probably make one with parts from Radio Shack!
by the time I gave up googling frys and radio shack were closed for the day... LOL will figure something out tomorrow... Thanks!

I'm running a system with 4 x 6970 (which require 1 8pin & 1 6pin each) and I'm using a Silverstone Strider 1500W. The PSU has 4 pcie cables with a 6+2pin and a 6pin. My motherboard is an MSI 890FXA-GD70 for AM3 socket, that has 5 pcie slots(but 4 that can be used with a 1 slot gap for dual-slot GPU cards) and my case has 8pci expansion slots on the back. So its fairly easy to run a 4 card setup even if those cards are dual slot.
What case are you using? TJ11. got it cheap and love it. it has a fantastic design and I'm able to close the side panels with appropriate amount of fans for proper heat/airflow dispersal. with more GPUs being supported by 11.6 drivers, I will be adding more cards in the empty 5.25 bay... there's plenty of room to "hang" them there...

take a look at: http://www.epowertec.com/power_cd.htmlI bought one of these open box from newegg for $12 the other day and though it was a great buy. Glad I only bought 1. If you look at the 3rd picture from the bottom you will see the 3-pin black connector that converts into a regular computer powercord on one end and this 3-pin looking receptacle. Problem is, this converter is missing from box... returning is gonna suck... Does anyone recognize this converter? Where can I find one of these?

I have 2 ST1500 for 4 6990s... I'm in the process of adding a 5th one. This ain't cheap...

Hmm, that's awesome. Of course, you run into power requirement issues with that many cards, but it's nice to be able to bundle things up into fewer machines.
So, that leads to the question of what are some good suggestions for motherboards that have 5+ PCI express slots?
I'm running an ASUS WS Revolution with 7 GPUs with Windows 7, AMD currently has a ticket from me escalated to engineer to deal with the need for dummy plugs with 11.6. If AMD gets rid of the dummy plug for win, that will be SUPER fantastic!!!!! Please keep us posted!

Still happen if you turn it off vs sleep?
I just disabled monitor sleep in the power profile and instead turn off the power on the monitor itself. also changed the color from 32 bit to 16, although not sure if that did anything useful.

My FPGA design can do 1GH/s on Stratix IV 530. The dev board costs USD$8k, and would need fan/heatsink added. I'm guessing that power usage would be around 40-50W?
What do the costs look like for a higher production?

There are no myths here...
On windows, prior to driver 11.6 only 4 GPUs would work.
GPU does not equal a video card in this context... Windows will recognize more than 4 video cards just fine... However, you won't be able to use more than 4 GPUs with 11.5 or below.
However, with 11.6 drivers, it looks like there's limited confirmation of 8 GPUs being the new limit. On Linux there are rumors that the limit is at least 10 GPUs...

sorry, i wasn't talking about design feasibility, rather the market feasibility... what any designer would need to know is the worth of his effort... if i develop a system and people still prefer GPU's over fpga rigs, then why would i want to waste my time?... in short if i could such a system in the market, how many people would want to buy it?
well. now you only can bitcoin mining with gpu coz is the only comercial option. im bet if someone invest in stand alone or especialized external units with good specs you can earn a lot in the short place. considering the dificulty jumps and energy cost any miner with a calc find these especs very interesting. even if you cuad these energy consumption rate. GPU is not the only option. People are already mining on FPGUs.

Apparently 11.6 supports more GPUs on both Windows on Linux... More confirmations are needed...
|
|
|
It's not a good answer but I can confirm 11.6 raises the Windows limit to 8 GPUs so if they made a move on both platforms it's logical they raised the Linux limit. I confirmed it with AMD directly and I currently have 7 in a rig and it recognizes them and I can use them. I do need to dummy plug them still and that is a pain, hoping AMD comes back with something on that as well.
That's actually a much better answer!!!! OC of 6990s is a little easier under win for me...

And for block 132468 also?
What's going on here?
|
|
|
How come there are two entries for block 132473???
This looks fishy...
|
|
|
@ $397 it's $49.63 per slot. GA-990FXA-UD7 is at $250 and has 6 slots which works out to $41.67 per slot... Hmmmm.... very tempting!!!

Rumor has it that it can handle more than 8 GPUs?
Has anyone tried yet?
