Wow, canary, you actually ordered one?

I'm 100% certain this is a scam.
Why would you even bother ordering and going through the hassle of paypal?

ohyouguyz.

well, i am the canary in the mine... LOL

i don't know why there are all these post about problems with chargeback, paypal issues etc... etc...

i don't have any problems calling my card and reversing a charge.  "product not as advertised"
additionally, i will videotape opening a package and if i don't get what i ordered, they will also have to deal with post office and mail fraud.

i don't see what the big deal is here with me trying to prove whether it's a scam or not.

i read lots of post where ppl claim something is a scam, but very few show hard evidence.

so, i'm getting this evidence in this case.

Note who posted this and where  Huh at the bottom of the article.

Now all we need is some dope and we're good to go!!!

Or have I been smoking something?

I saw that too!!! sent them a note to inquire about this...

So when they transfer their your their money out of their paypal account, where will the money for the chargeback come from? Excuse my ignorance, but I haven't used paypal for quite a few years.

Paypal will give them a negative balance and sue them for it.

If this turns out legit. Ill order 20

Baller.

selling GPUs and using proceeds to buy these units (if they are real) might work... should be close to even... unless they jack up the prices...

preorder is not for these enclosures according to them.  however, the enclosure is OEM, so ppl can use it for their application...
3785  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: October 19, 2011, 12:41:58 AM
my credit card.  while you all debate whether this is a  scam, I'm willing to find out with 100% certainty. and it won't cost me anything.
like i said, i hope it's not, but if it is, i'm happy to expose it with concrete proof for the mining community
3786  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: October 19, 2011, 12:10:27 AM
i hope it's not a scam.

anyway... i ordered one via paypal.

if it's a scam, we will know as soon as I or anyone else here who orders receives one of these, or don't receive it...
if a scam, i will reverse the charges. simple as that

What is ETA on delivery?  Your right to chargeback expires in 60 days.  So if they promise delivery in 90 days...

yep... i will definitely pay attention to that.  they say 4-8 weeks, so i'll watch the deadline...

3788  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: phoenix miner in solo question on: October 13, 2011, 07:12:04 PM
i'm running a few rigs in solo mode using phoenix.
everything is setup, it's connected and hashing, but the accepted and rejected counters remain at 0.
is this normal?

boy are you confused or what
You Don't run a miner if your mining solo
DUA

maybe i'm doing something wrong, but i'm definitly not confused.

bitcoin client is runing in server mode on one of my machines.  the other rigs are connected to it and are hashing.  Do you know the answer to my question?

I am still unable to get to deepbit using the deepbit selection in gui..  8:10 AM EST -5 GMT  my block(s) are 98.70.*.*
What do you mean ?
Is the website working for you ? Or you can't access the site AND can't mine ?
The web site is down I can access it here in Toronto as well.

So what software are you using to fight of the attack?

I don't see how any software will help if the bandwith pipe is simply overwhelmed.

inspection would have to be done at a larger pipe (maybe service provider, backbone level for ex.) and then valid requests can be "allowed" to continue while the attack could be redirected...

for ex. if the attack is 40 GB, you need to have counter measures in a spot that can handle more than 40GB traffic.

if one was in an AT&T data center (level 1), you could buy DDoS protection service from them.  it works as advertised, it withstood anon attacks on a few places.  but it costs 3-4 K /month.

the only way it wouldn't work is if the attack is actually sending "valid" work requests and is overwhelming the listener AND the traffic looks indistinguishable between a valid worker.  This, unfortunately is easy to implement specifically for bitcoin....

it's still running like crap. miners and website. I guess the attack is still on.

Really enjoyed reading this article.  Much better than a sleuth of idiotic blog posts regarding bitcoin out there.

thanks for sharing the link!

is it being ddos'ed or something else is up?

how can we help here?

who is the service provider for deepbit, anyone know?

Are there any plans to implement merged mining?

This.

what does this mean?

Merged mining basically lets you submit the same hash to both Bitcoin and NameCoin. For the miner, it means you can get bitcoins and namecoins at the same time for the same effort you're already producing.

It's very new, and there isn't a lot of documentation, and there are still some valid concerns about the integrity of the process.  From protocol issues (which are over my head), to other issues such as pool-ops implementing merged mining without telling the miners, keeping the namecoins for themselves.

For deepbit, I imagine it'd be in poor taste to implement merged mining, as their massive hashrate would dwarf the current NameCoin network.  But this does leave Deepbit in a peculiar position - will miners stay if they can get increased rewards elsewhere (currently ~ 30% more, based on current NMC exchange rates)

oh... I know what merged mining is... I thought that my post about what's up with 24 hr rate was answered with merged mining comment, so I was a little confused by that...

i guess they are not related though...
3796  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: October 12, 2011, 01:07:09 AM
what is up with 24hr avg???

is there a problem?

Depends on your point of view.  Decreasing network hash rate causes fewer blocks to be solved.  But then it also decreases the difficulty.

Sam

i know luck will vary but over time it's all smoothed out... but I've not seen this kind of number before... looks really weird...

i think powercolor makes the single slot 6850... wouldn't be surprised if some slick design come from them with 7xxx
3800  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: WHere are the 7800's????? on: October 10, 2011, 08:20:06 PM
question:

if the die size is half the size and the wattage is lower with these 32 and 28 nm chips,

should one expect a smaller card then?

something that might take 1 slot instead of 2 (current)... smaller fans maybe?

anyone have any info on the possible changes in cooling of these cards?
