3842  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What's the latest on 7xxx series from radeon? on: September 12, 2011, 09:50:00 PM
We know the watts now....

7850 - 1408 Core - 90W
7870 - 1536 Core - 120W
7950 - 1920 Core - 150W
7970 - 2048 Core - 190W

do your math Wink

Isn't the math something like (Stream Processors/4) + 50 = MH/s or something along those lines?  So with 1408 SPs @ 90w would be about 402 MH/s.  That's a pretty good hash per watt ratio.
it's clock * AlUs / number ops for mining.  there's a few other posts regarding 7xxx series that does the estimated match for hashing. 1G+ expected for the 7990 card.
3843  Other / Meta / Re: Info about the recent attack on: September 11, 2011, 08:55:07 PM
how about some beefed up infrastructure with a good firewall, ids, virus etc... etc...?

no way bitcoin is becoming mainstream until, we (as in all of us, open-source anything lovers), take security seriously.

as long as there's an opportunity to create PR damage to bitcoin, it will be done and the only press and info that mainstream folks hear about bitcoin will be negative.

you can hiss at me, say whatever, i don't give a shit about your negative-all-knowing pontification that is coming at this post....

BUT

bitcoin will become mainstream not because of it's technical wow/genius or libertarian fuck-the-government connotations... whatever the hell you want to insert here... BUT only if there is positive PR and good perception with public.

There ain't enough of us here to make it mainstream.  You tell me what non-technical people, when you ask them about bitcoin, tell you?  I bet it's only the negative crap that has been put out BECAUSE of security lapses with peripheral, supporting, indirect bitcoin related services.  Nobody cares that it's not bitcoin suffering directly.  people do not understand the difference...

So, whenever you all (those who are in position to take security-related actions) take this seriously, then maybe bitcoin will have a shot.

Until then, get your pop corn out, every few weeks we will see another nail put into bitcoin "Security"

control the message, control opinion, perception and ultimately reality.
3844  Bitcoin / Mining / You must sell your bitcoins! on: September 11, 2011, 06:28:51 PM

We can't have a rise from 4 something to 6... it must fall all the waaaay!!!  in order for this to happen you all MUST sell your bitcoins.

3845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Currency Collapse, Bitcoin As A Fallback on: September 09, 2011, 04:33:32 PM
I get most of my economic facts and forecasts from UFO magazines and it now seems that Western currencies may collapse.
This will lead to banks stopping access to savings, leaving peeps without cash in hand and skint.
Naturally, there needs to be something to fill the gap, so how can Bitcoin help? Maybe local stores that accept Bitcoins for bread
and petrol and UFO magazines etc?

Don't worry!  The aliens will come and save us. so there, you have nothing to worry about...

Where's that lithium I'm supposed to take daily... hmmmm.... can't find it...  maybe I left it on the UFO when I was abducted last night... do you remember if I left it there?

You must be one of them septics

OMG!!! you are so right... I remember now... I think my pills went down the septic... OMG!!!! can you spare me some?
3846  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin scam is comming to an end on: September 09, 2011, 04:07:02 PM
Bitcoins lost 60% of its value in 3 months. The scam is coming to an end apparently. Some people made money out of it. The majority lost big time, burning energy down the toilette. Bitcoin is scam. As I told everybody in the first place. Earning money by buying hardware... get a brain, sheep!

somebody is pissed.  after you sunk all that money into hardware when bitcoin was higher than today...
makes you feel like stupid sheeple shit doesn't it?

so now it's someone else's fault for your mistakes, huh?  classic...
go away and don't think about mining again.
3847  Economy / Economics / Re: Naked Short Selling Bitcoin on: September 09, 2011, 04:03:56 PM
Anyone doing this yet? There must be a great market for naked short selling of this stuff. Come on
exchanges and you Bitcoin bulls, there is a market waiting for you to put
your money where your mouth is and offer naked short selling!

I think you might be confusing your lack of wearing any shorts in the morning with an economic concept.  To check, after you put your shorts back on, does this question leave your mind?  if so, then don't worry about it...
3848  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - The investment of the year on: September 09, 2011, 03:54:40 PM
day traders will eventually leave bitcoins

day traders leave nothing...

3850  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What is the best Graphics Card for mining? on: September 09, 2011, 03:39:04 PM
Hello Everyone,

I want to get the forum's opinion on the best card for mining.  I'm wondering because I'm currently using a ATI Radeon 5750 but that's on a computer I don't want to keep on all the time and I'm thinking about building a new computer soon.

(Also, if the responses are good, I might feature them on my BitCoin podcast, BitCoin Review)

Thanks for the input everyone!

-Carmen

it's best not to mine at all. just buy BTC @ current prices instead.
3851  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: September 09, 2011, 02:58:01 PM
don't question my amount of shares.. question why the pool as a whole only had 699 shares on a 4 minute block...
that is the really odd thing I was thinking of. maybe that is the pool problem you were speaking of 110 minutes ago?
just look at your stats page to see what i mean. 4 minutes on deepbit always have a lot more shares then that.
Yes, I understand what you are talking about.
I asked about your connection problems to see if at least someone had.

I'll check it to find out if those "missing" shares were accounted for another (next) rounds or not...

were you able to find anything?
3852  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: HD 6850 Memory Clock Jumps to 1000Mhz Even Though Underclocked on: September 09, 2011, 02:53:06 PM
Rivatuner is the only one that will work properly to lower the memory clock. Going below 350mzh makes weird stuff happen if you try use the gpu for anything else (firefox).

complete b.s.
3853  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Difficulty Should Be Falling Faster on: September 09, 2011, 02:45:09 PM
If difficulty is linked to price, then difficulty should be falling faster. Some developer must have coded things wrong
because price is collapsing and difficulty is flatlining. We want sub-million difficulty!

Basically, I want difficulty right down so I can mine thousands of BTC then when the price goes shooting up, after the
banks collapse, I can roll in an ermine-clad Bentley wearing a crown and playing loud rap-music.

Did you forget to take your Abilify and Lithium pills again?
3854  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Tweaking the 5970s on: September 09, 2011, 01:35:18 PM
With all the 5970 cards I hope folks find this info useful and share their experiences. I am running a total of 5x5970 in two mining systems under Windows 7 and GUIMiner.

Why would anyone run Windows on dedicated rigs Huh

Can your log in remotely when something needs restarting ?

because it works fine.

And you have actually bought a Windoze license for
your dedicated miner ? That's neat. Next time you feel
overburdened by cash, let me know, I'm sure I can
help out  Roll Eyes

You are a clueless soul.

wonder how much hashing power just got wiped out!! Smiley

Angelus, doesn't this make you very very happy? LOL

What in the world happened with the last round on the stats page?
08.09 13:37:29   0h 04m     0   699     None
4 minutes and only 699 shares.. and I did not get one with 2.4 gh/s running?
Hmm... looks strange. Have you experienced any connection problems or "miner idle" messages during that timespan ?

The pool had some difficulties 110+ minutes ago, but time doesn't match.

haven't seen any connection problems around that time...

I see same.  What happened here in a span of 4 minutes?
This doesn't look right at all...
3859  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Farm Cooling on: September 08, 2011, 08:47:03 PM
I have been doing more work to rectify my "heat situation" and have consulted multiple hvac / ventilation specialists. The consensus seems to be to either vent the hot air out of the building or condition the air. Don't do both.

Another point they kept bringing up is the very little amount of insulation between the roof and the air inside the building. So I am having extra insulation put on the ceiling early next week to see just how much it helps. I will be going for the highest R value I can get and will follow up once it is installed. Insulating 800sqft should be about a $1 a sqft, a lot cheaper than other solutions.  Smiley

extra insulation will help retain more heat.
3860  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Farm Cooling on: September 07, 2011, 11:59:55 PM
I am starting to reach the limit of what I can cool with my mining farm and am wondering the best approach to take to sustain further expansion. I am currently 14 "rigs" most with 5 GPUs per box. I will be expanding further next week and was hoping to put off this until after the winter, but that is looking less and less likely.

I am in a 800sqft space with 20ft ceilings and a 3 ton HVAC unit that now seems to run 24/7.

So the big question is: What do you do to cool your 10Gh+ mining farm? Do you have pictures and or best practices?

create some sort of hood/enclosure that can capture hot air from cards and expell it outside through duct piping.  you can also install fans in the outside of the opening to suck all that hot air right out.  if done properly, your AC should barely have to be on.
