I got a question: Why did you choose this specific place of your body for the tatoo?

1543  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much does it cost YOU to produce a bitcoin? on: July 12, 2011, 12:34:21 AM
The setup in the signature = 0.800kWh = 19.2kWh a day x 0.10306p = ~£2

So 1BTC costs £2 ($3.18) to produce

Uh, the ROI is negative in every case, so why would anyone buy a service from you?

You have to be extremely stupid to fall for this  Shocked

I bought an Energy Meter to see how much electricity my rig uses, so:

4x XFX 5870 @ 960Mhz Core & 300Mhz Memory
Gigabyte GA-770T-D3L
AMD Athlon II X2 250
2GB 1333MHz DDR3
USB Flash Drive
3x CM Sickleflow @ 2000rpm
===================================
800-815W from the Socket depending on the time of the day
830W Peak

So the components use around 730W when the efficiency of the PSU is taken into account.

On 5830 + SDK 2.1, it's slightly slower than the previous version. Guess I'll revert it back.

Same here. With the previous version my average was 1758 and now it is 1756.

This is for 4x 5870 @ 960Mhz Core & 300Mhz Memory
SDK 2.1
Ubuntu 32bit
1547  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Noise and Heat Levels with multiple systems on: July 11, 2011, 08:18:04 PM
Thanks for your replies.

It looks like I won't be building these as I don't have a place to put them apart from my flat, which will be very inconvenient Sad
1548  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Noise and Heat Levels with multiple systems on: July 11, 2011, 03:47:51 AM
So currently I have a dedicated mining rig sitting in the corridor of my flat and being just 3.6m away from where I lay my head to sleep with one door in between.

1 - I'm curious what will be the subjective noise level increase if I add one more machine emitting the same level of noise? Will there be any difference at all?
2 - What about with 3 rigs in total? Will I notice a significant increase in noise levels compared to just 1 rig?

The weather in the UK is pretty good for mining even in the summer with daily temperatures being in the 20C region at the moment
3 - Would 3 rigs create much more heat compared to one? If there is some air flow created by opened windows at 2 ends and the air temps in the premises are 25C is it reasonable to expect 30+ with 3 rigs?

Thank you.

Or should I buy this?
http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/20/accelero-xtreme-5870.html?c=2182
I'm using the sapphire 5870 now, I really don't like the noise if their fans blow over 50%. Sad

Or is it ok as long as I keep my temps below 90°? My target was 80° but I read that below 90° shouldn't be a problem for the 5870's.

I wouldn't recommend you keep your cards at constant 90°, not even 85°. Try to be below 80°.

I got a question about security: how safe is my password? Let's imagine someone manages to steal your DB or whatever stores the user passwords. How difficult would be for that person to crack my password which looks like: TIzWU92Fn43K8CmYVclq
1551  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Need help making or finding a list of megahash speeds on: July 11, 2011, 01:24:29 AM
Diamond 5870 1GB reference
  • Core 990MHz
  • Memory 355MHz
  • Phoenix 1.50
  • VECTORS BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 AGGRESSION=11 FASTLOOPS=false -k phatk
  • 438MH/s

HIS 5870 1GB non-reference
  • Core 1020MHz
  • Memory 355MHz
  • Phoenix 1.50
  • VECTORS BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 AGGRESSION=11 FASTLOOPS=false -k phatk
  • 450MH/s

Speeds at normal clock:  Unknown

I get 440Mhash/s at 960Mhz Core, so you might want to try and tweak it further.
1552  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: If I were to setup a mining rig right now, what would be the best setup? on: July 11, 2011, 01:18:17 AM
It all depends on your local market GPU prices, but in general: 5850, 5870, 5970 and 6990 are good, but then again it depends how much you can buy them for.
1553  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Does underclocking reduce power concumption? on: July 11, 2011, 01:11:09 AM
Yes, I got mine @ 300Mhz, but have no data for the power consumption decrease. Probably not much to have a profound effect on the power bill.
1554  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 475+ Mhash/s 5870 - Voltage mod and overclock on: July 11, 2011, 01:09:45 AM
Ok, you will satisfy your curiosity and find what is the maximum stable clock for mining, but is it worth it apart from that? Probably not.

A quick comparison: mine are @ 960Mhz Core = 440Mhash/s, so you get 35Mhash/s more = 0.6BTC more a month than me for the much higher chance that your card will die much sooner than mine. What about electricity?
1555  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will this Rosewill LIGHTNING-1000 PSU be enough for 4x 5850?? on: July 11, 2011, 01:00:58 AM
I got 4x XFX 5870 @ 960Mhz Core & 300Mhz Memory + cheap mobo and cpu + flash drive to boot Ubuntu from all powered from Corsair HX850 Wink

So 1000W is more than enough for 4x 5850.
1556  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Does underclocking reduce power concumption? on: July 10, 2011, 11:33:05 PM
Power consumption is less, but not a significant difference.

Have you installed screen? - sudo apt-get install screen

And always use sudo to make sure everything runs with elevated privileges.

1559  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Datasheet for xfx 5870 fan CFM on: July 09, 2011, 04:25:58 AM
Use GPU-Z to export the BIOS from the card and then load it in RBE to check on the fans curve Wink

Or you can get a BIOS from techpowerup website.
1560  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mixing different cards on the same motherboard on: July 09, 2011, 04:23:53 AM
So can I expect any problems mixing 5850/5870/5970/6990 on the same motherboard under Ubuntu?

Would it make any difference which cards I mix or some go better with others? Best combinations in terms of less issues?

Share your thoughts please Smiley
