Have anyone made any calculations how much better or worse we are as a group of customers (1000s) if the hashrate of each device is increased by 30% or 50%?

A very rough example:

1000 Jupiters 500GH/s each vs 1000 Jupiters 600GH/s

Is each individual owner better with the 600GH/s or is the benefit cancelled out by the fact the each has it?

I'm seriously considering to get a refund on the delivery charges ($240 for 2 Jupiters) and go get them myself.
I spoke with Sam today, who was absolutely certain that all orders will be ready by 15th October ad he will be able to give me at least a 48h notice of when they will be ready to collect.
So I did some research and here are my findings:

  • RyanAir seems the cheapest
  • RyanAir offers to buy and Extra Item Seat* so I can buy a single ticket to go there and basically 2 singles to come back - around $100
  • The miner fits just perfectly within the hand baggage allowance - 7kg and 50x40x20cm vs 10kg and 55x40x20cm, so will just put it in a strong plastic bag.
  • Airport Security shouldn't be a problem - it's computer hardware with no power supply, batteries or liquids and won't be damaged by the xray scanning machine.

Anyone thinking of doing the same? Have I missed anything, that might impede my return back to UK?

* - To book an extra seat for an item the word "ITEM SEAT" must be entered as the surname and "EXTRA" must be entered at the first name. EXTRA ITEM SEAT will then be displayed on the reservation and online boarding pass. The accompanying passenger's travel document details must be entered during the online check- in process. Reserved seating in emergency rows 1,16 and 17 may not be purchased if you have purchased an extra seat for item/comfort

I'm seriously considering this as well, I have a ton of Airmiles that would give me essentially a free round-trip to Sweden (aside from food/lodging).

Where are you located and what is your order number?

I'll carry one for you CYPER  Cool

Btw found out I can buy a second seat and use it for the miner  Grin
So 1 return ticket + 1 single = around £100 which is much better than the $240 I paid. I can even spend a day or 2 in Stockholm if needed Smiley

take it with you!

RyanAir Cabin Baggage allowance is 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, so the miner will barely fit and I have 2 Jupiters.

You should definitely think on the delivery method back to UK  Roll Eyes

Why? It's an inside EU flight... paid VAT... I can't see any problem.

The problem is baggage handlers at the airport.

Well, I can go, but I'm not Day 1  Sad

I even want to go and help them build the miners and get mine a bit sooner in return.
I can spend a day or 2 there, so they send all the miner quicker.
1169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnC 1st Day Pick-ups - Stockholm. Anyone available with at v.short notice?? on: September 24, 2013, 06:06:33 PM
Are you suggesting that even without any proof of any working thing of any kind you are starting to think deeply about this first day pickup problem?

He received a phone call from Sam to be there, so there is a reason for that.
Maybe he knows more, but does not want to share Smiley

I've already paid 240USD for shipping, but I'm looking at ways to improve my ROI, so saving on delivery is one of them + maybe safer and quicker + I get to see Stockholm (again).

Is your $240 for both miners? or each? and how did you choose the express method?

My shipping to canada is $136.80 per miner and I never had an option to choose any method.  It just says UPS ZONE 7.

And as far as I know according to the UPS zone chart, UPS ZONE 7 = importing from the United States, so I don't know what that's about.

$120.40 per Miner and no options to select. Carl told me over the phone it is UPS Express Saver.
Seems a bit expensive for delivery to UK, when you pay $136 to get it to Canada.
I'm UPS Zone 3.

I use UPS all the time. $120.40 for UPS Express Saver from Sweden to UK for something of that weight is not expensive at all, in fact is pretty much OK.

Then the guy from Canada should thank KNC for offering such a discounted price on delivery Smiley

I've had lots of boxes from across both ponds. The safest and least-damaged boxes always came using the fastest method, so if they're using 1 day or 2 day shipment, I wouldn't worry too much.

If someone went cheap and went with like 1 week shipping or more (if that was an option, which I don't think it was), then I would worry.

I'm not much worried about the shipping, but I wish I can just go and collect.
Unfortnatelly I can't think of a way to make sure my miners don't die while being handled.
1174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 24, 2013, 05:23:56 PM

If you are that concerned why not take the courier option. For sure the women are 1000% worth the visit just to keep rubbing your eyes and pinching yourself in disbelief. No sh*t, really, it's unnnreal. I wouldn't risk taking anything apart, no container will be more protective than that metal casing, and you'll for sure void warranty dude.

Are you not concerned for your miner?

They said, or rather Sam has said, can I make the weekend, this one?

A quick question: How do you plan on getting that miner back to the UK?
I'm asking because I've paid over 240USD for delivery and I'd rather get a ticket and bring them back myself, but I don't think they will survive in the checked in luggage and will not fit in the carry on luggage.

Lol when I first inquired months back, Sam said it would fit in hand luggage. that beast does not meet any hand luggage requirements I know of, but I reckon a clean swipe could take out one of Ryanair's boarding trolls. It may have to be checked in, in a bag with a lot of socks.

The problem is I got 2 of these babies, so either way I have to check them in Sad

Do you feel absolutely confident that they will survive in the cargo bay?

Maybe be receive it in parts for safer travel and then assemble at home?
1176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 24, 2013, 05:05:48 PM

If it's boxed for shipment, it shouldn't fare significantly worse on one airline in baggage than it would on a different airline, like UPS, also in baggage...

Have you seen how they unload the baggage from the plane? What if my miner is underneath the pile? Then on the conveyor belt Sad
I know UPS aren't very delicate either, but to me it seems airport baggage handlers are the worst.

Until you connect to internet, your wallet wont have the coins.
Blockchain shows the address has coins, not in your wallet.
You need to connect to internet, then only the coins will reach your wallet.

Sorry, but your understanding of how Bitcoin works is wrong.
The wallet doesn't contain any coins Wink
It contains your public and private keys to spend coins, that belong to it.
So basically the blockchain knows your address has some coins and your wallet contains the right to spend them.

So, no you don't need an internet connection to receive coins, but you need internet connection to spend them Wink
1180  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: September 23, 2013, 03:42:35 PM
For both sending & receiving coins you need to connect internet.

What do you mean by "receiving"?
If I have created a wallet and copied the receiving addresses on a piece of paper I don't really need internet connection to receive coins.
I can just give the address to someone and that's it.
Now If I want to spend these coins then I will need internet, but that is sending, no receiving.
