I think that this is the design of case that i want for my cards, i'll be building one like that tomorrow ! Smiley

After building it I found just one flaw with the design: the PCIE riser of the last card is being blocked by the PSU (check the picture), which restricts the spacing between the cards. They currently sit at 5cm between each other and I wanted to space them even further apart. But then again than might not bring any better temperatures, so its questionable if wider spaces are needed.
If you want to space them more just either make the case wider so the PSU goes more to the right or put the resting planks for the cards higher so that the riser does not touch the PSU.

1562  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What about 4x Oc'd 5970 Setup? on: July 08, 2011, 09:04:47 PM
Your using the x1 slots? how much does that affect the mhash on the cards between the x16 slot and you are better off getting 4 more 5870's and another board or just get 6990's because you get a warranty on it having one of them break and not having a warranty...
No difference between x1 and x16.
One note through is that with the extenders try and get some with external power (4 pin molex) since most any board cannot deliver that kind of wattage unless specifically designed to do so...
What kind of extenders are those that have external power? The card gets 75W from the slot and everything else from the PSU. What I'm worried is having 4 cards each getting 75W from the mobo (4 slots). Which source has higher priority - the slot or the power connector?
Do you think it is wise to put 4x oc'd 5970 together in a case like this.
- Picture blocked so cant see, but in general it's not wise to put 4x 5970 in ANYTHING enclosed, only open setup. those are true monsters.

For the PSU I'm thinking of either
1x Silverstone SST-ST1500
- No
or 2x Corsair HX850
- Yes
the latter being one awesome PSU (I have 2 of these myself).

Do you think I might have any problems with Gigabyte GA-770T-D3L which I currently use for 4x oc'd 5870.
Maybe not enough power coming through the PCI-X slots to the cards?
- Should be Ok.

I am running 2x 5970 on a crap mobo with a 1000watt coolermaster silent pro psu, rock solid OCed to 800mhz at 70degrees.  You can easily OC it to 850 with a bit more work and trial/error and I seen people got it to run at 900 with voltage increase.   One thing i notice is those cards do NOT like low memory clock, when I set it to 300mhz-400mhz as many people are suggesting they would constantly hang, once I set it to 500mhz no issues (same clock speed etc..)
Yes, the picture is of a completely open wooden frame where the cards have 5cm space between each and 3x CM Sickleflow 2000rpm are blowing from the top of the frame. With this setup my 4x5870 (960Mhz Core) are in the region of 65-75 degrees depending on the weather and the card. Currently with 16 Celsius outside they are around 69-70.

The thing is if I could buy 5870 for the price I paid 2 weeks ago I would go for them, but currently they sell for £200 which is too much.

Well, I think without sudo the log file can't be created.

Use sudo and then check on Autominer.log

First try locally to make sure everything is working as it should.
If it does I can't help you with starting it remotely as I usually start it locally and then just monitor it via SSH.

Connecting to http://X@pit.deepbit.net:8332... which I guess is Connecting to http://X:X@pit.deepbit.net:8332... right?

Also do you run sudo ./startmining locally or via SSH?

Well to be perfectly honest and objective 0.5% increase won't make any difference even with my setup  Roll Eyes At least not in terms of financial benefits Smiley

But I don't mean to belittle your work - well done Smiley

Well finally I can see some improvement.

With todays version I got from 1748 to 1758 so ~10Mhash increase.

This is for 4x 5870 @ 960Mhz Core & 300Mhz Memory
SDK 2.1

Which command is the correct one?

I am on the local machine and it popped up the Autominer screen and is mining, I checked the cores both are running 99%,  I guess it most be the way I display in ssh?  Thank you, I am glad the software is running....if you could help me with the ssh part that would be great...

The important thing is that it works Smiley

Try

Code:
sudo DISPLAY=:0 ./startmining.sh
or
Code:
DISPLAY=:0 sudo ./startmining.sh

I'm not sure of the exact structure.

I have the same problem, but it does not bother me, as I'm using VNC to connect to the machine and start the miner locally and then I just connect via SSH to monitor it using sudo screen -x amm -p 0

I'd prefer mining instead of troubleshooting it Wink

Possibly you're using an old version of SDK.  I get a fatal error when trying this with SDK 2.1 but am fine with SDK 2.4.

Well it worked with the previous version of the modified kernel.

The text you are getting doesn't indicate an error as it appears everytime, even if everything works fine Smiley

When you write sudo ./startmining.sh does an additional window open?

Also did you configure autoOpenXterm=1 or autoOpenXterm=0 in common.lib?

I'm using Autominer and the newest kernel does not work for me at all, but I don't have time to troubleshoot it as I'll miss on my mining and any expected rewards.
1575  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [Linux] Autominer v0.3.2.6 - GPU Monitor, Downtime Swapper, New Interface on: July 06, 2011, 03:07:18 AM
Is it very difficult to implement manual switching between pools?
Currently I have created different common.lib and cards.lib files for each set of pools such as:

Deepbit and Slush
Deepbit and BTC Guild
Slush and BTC Guild

But it would be awesome if there is an easy way to quickly switch to a different pool manually when desired and not just when the pool is down.

Thank you.

Hi CYPHER,

Do you mind sharing the core voltage values in the above set-up?

I also have 4 x 5870 in my rigs, but I keep them at 920/1200/1.1250 - every time I push the GPU clock over 940, they become unstable and lock-up (the memory FRQ does not affect much, but it looks like higher the memory clock, the card is bit more stable)

Stock voltage, but I can't tell you the exact value as they are currently mining. I've flashed them with an edited BIOS, which does not allow changing the voltage. I've tried 990 core which was stable, but speeds  weren't high enough to justify the extra power consumption or higher temperatures to be expected. For me 960Mhz core is the best setting.

Is 1.1250 the default voltage or you increased it?
1577  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: further improved phatk OpenCL Kernel (> 2% increase) for Phoenix - 2011-07-03 on: July 05, 2011, 08:25:23 PM
4x 5870 @ 960Mhz Core = rock solid 1748Mhash/s

After I put the modified kernel:

Variable 1746-1751 with most of the time staying around 1748

So no use for me, but thanks for your effort anyway Smiley
1578  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Tired of stale shares? on: July 05, 2011, 05:12:39 AM
I don't know if I should consider myself lucky, but I have very low Stales ratio:

1579  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Capital cost. on: July 05, 2011, 04:59:48 AM
Capital                  $1360
MHash/s                 1748

$0.778 for each Mhash/s
1.285 Mhash/s for each dollar

1580  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [Linux] Autominer v0.3.2.6 - GPU Monitor, Downtime Swapper, New Interface on: July 05, 2011, 04:17:40 AM
I've noticed that when the terminal or any other windows are open at the Ubuntu machine then the speed is playing, but when I close all windows the speed is rock solid, so I disabled xterm. That is not a problem/bug, just an observation on my part Smiley

But I do have a problem:

When I start the miner locally everything is fine, but it does not start via SSH.
I connect and then I write:
Code:
cd Autominer
sudo ./startmining.sh
write my password

So for now I connect using VNC, start it locally, close the Terminal and any other windows, close the VNC viewer and then connect using SSH and proceed with sudo screen -x amm -p 0
But I would like to be able to start it remotely via SSH and not use VNC if possible.

Any ideas?
