1081  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama issues executive order claiming power to seize Americans' bank accounts on: October 23, 2012, 06:48:40 PM
I love how people think they HAVE to vote for the twin-headed dragon every single fucking election.

The reason other independent parties never have a chance is because everybody refuses to leave the two-party lines and then proceed to bitch about how 'broken' our political system is. Have some backbone, stand up for what you believe in for once instead of one of the two identical people shoved down your throat by the media because "hey, at-least my candidate isn't as bad as the OTHER candidate".

Unfortunately, they never have a chance because they never gain enough credibility in the masses. Just because we (in reference to our community) would rather see someone other than the two popular candidates, doesn't mean the other 240+ million voters agree. That's why I, and many millions of others, focus on the lesser of two evils to receive our votes. Having some "backbone" and "standing up for what you believe" is all well and good, but in the broad view it won't make much of a difference.  Wink

Perhaps I was not clear. To rephrase: Since a) either Obama or Romney is going to be in the office no matter what, and b) Obama and Romney are essentially identical, Why vote for either? Why, in fact, vote at all, since whichever way you vote, it's wasted?

Hmm, fair point and I see what you're saying. That said, I can honestly say I don't have an answer to respond with.

Side Note: I like how this thread went from an article the OP submitted to a debate about voting Tongue
1082  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama issues executive order claiming power to seize Americans' bank accounts on: October 23, 2012, 06:20:39 PM
However, given that: a) only one of the two "approved" options has any chance of winning, and b) they are functionally identical, why is it that you consider any vote to not be a waste?

Well in this case, you're asserting that only one person has the chance of winning, but since it's still a close race (based on current electoral maps, focusing on swing states) it's not quite possible to call it yet. In fact, it could be possible for each candidate to hit 269 and tie it up in the actual election, resulting in the House making the final decision.

To me, a wasted vote is a vote going to a candidate that doesn't have a chance of winning, which is essentially anyone outside of the two already "approved". Voting for either Obama or Romney isn't a waste.
1083  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama issues executive order claiming power to seize Americans' bank accounts on: October 23, 2012, 05:47:05 PM
No, I assumed he was intellectually deficient because he saw only the two options.

Well that's not very nice Tongue

We should also clarify that you're assuming I only see two options based on my response. The reality is that there are only two feasible options in the election. You can vote Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, Roseanne Bar, or countless others...but the only two people that actually have a chance are either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney. I'm not one to waste my vote..

1085  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama issues executive order claiming power to seize Americans' bank accounts on: October 23, 2012, 05:06:13 PM
So, you have all those things going for you, and still you vote for Obama? I believe you're lying about, at minimum, the IQ and reasoning skills.

Meh, believe what you want, I have no reason to lie.

I've watched all the primaries and debates...read all the articles and checked all the facts. Both sides have had their problems, but after seeing what Romney has said and done I just can't justify voting for him. He keeps spouting off the same spiel about 'jobs, tax cuts, and the economy', but he's just selling snake oil. If it was so easy to magically balance the budget, don't you think it would have been done by now?

The plans Obama has put in place during his term have a) helped get me healthcare, and b) helped lower my student loan payments by consolidating with the department of Ed. And now his JOBS Act will help to jump start my company.

Not to mention Obama already has presidential experience, which weighs a lot heavier on my mind than "I used to run a business and I was governor".

Anyway, just my 2 cents. Obviously I don't expect people to agree with me  Cheesy
1086  Economy / Securities / Re: Not your typical mining bond :) on: October 23, 2012, 04:58:12 PM
1 GH/s for 0.1 BTC? Well, that would be 6 BTC for 60 GH/s. How much is a BFL Single SC?

Good point, but I didn't say it was perfect Tongue ..I just wanted to make the point to look to a model that focuses on GH/s instead of MH/s, since once the transition to ASIC completes (whenever that may be) GH/s is all we'll be seeing anyway.

"this is a typical mining bond" - which bond offers buy-back at any time?

I'm just pullin' your leg Cheesy ..I can't remember which ones do what anymore. By typical, I meant "perpetual mining bond", which used to be pretty prevalent before the collapse of GLBSE (and I still seem them around from time to time).

Shame on the bitcoin community for not falling for every ponzi scheme that shows up!   Angry

I wish I could vote for Romney...
...but since I have an above average IQ, college education, a good job, above average reasoning skills, lack of substantial amounts of money, and I live in a diverse northern State, looks like I'm going to stick with Obama.  Cheesy

1090  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: [Poll] What have you doing with the coins you mined? on: October 23, 2012, 04:06:32 PM
I wonder what fraction of the stowed away coins are with active users versus dormant users. That is, what fraction of coins out there are lost for good..

That's a good point. At least for me, I know I've lost bitcoins in accounts I can't ever seem to find again...I know it's not that much (maybe a few tenths of a coin), but multiple that by a few thousand (or more) people doing the same thing and it'll add up quickly.

This is what I mean by "more like play money".  Currently, people will sell into fiat to recoup their costs, realize their income, etc.  For BTC to become a real currency, that mindset has to go away, and people will just have a BTC balance and a fiat balance.  People have to think of BTC as real money.  For that to happen, there has to be many merchants accepting BTC, but for there to be many merchants accepting BTC, there has to be the mindset that BTC is real money...a chicken and egg problem of which comes first.

Excellent realization. +1
1091  Other / Off-topic / Re: Average age of BFL troll on: October 23, 2012, 03:28:13 PM
Yep, interesting, isn't it? The BFL forum consist of conversations on relevant topics with helpful replies from the community and BFL.

Bitcointalk consists of trolls trolling other trolls, and is nearly impossible to have a rational discussion. Good job, guys!

That's not true.. It depends on the topic...... The overblown topics get trolled h3avily.

Ha, I know right. And yet I still haven't created an account on BFL's forums...maybe I just like arguing with the trolls here Tongue
1092  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: here's just how screwed ASIC buyers are - READ THIS if you have a preorder on: October 23, 2012, 03:00:47 PM
who hit rewind...

BFL, CablePair, Avalon have all publicly stated they will use testnet in a box.

That's just a waste of money. They should mine real BTC during the burn in but put them in a paper wallet they include in the box.

Far from it. The point is to isolate mining with the prototype devices to prevent network disruptions (in total hash rate, difficulty, and profitability). If it was discovered the any of the companies were profiting on their own product, it wouldn't make the community very happy, including their investors. It's a terrible business model.

The same applies to the drug trade...don't use your own product Wink
1093  Economy / Securities / Re: Not your typical mining bond :) on: October 23, 2012, 02:55:59 PM
Hi everyone!

Today I would like to present you a sepcial kind of mining bond: http://btcmining.biz/

TL;DR: Shares start with 0.1 BTC each for 1 MH/s, free upgrade to 10 MH/s as soon as our already ordered ASIC devices are fully operational, value of each share is coupled to ASIC hardware price, we buy back shares at any time for 90% of current value.

This operation is managed by me and user "prawda".

Given what I've seen in the past, this is a typical mining bond  Cheesy

That said, I don't have a problem with these kinds of bonds. What I do have a problem with is the cost. 0.1BTC per MH/s? That's not very much...especially given the hardware out there now (and everything coming out soon), it might be better to figure out if switching to GH/s is a much more feasible business plan.
1094  Economy / Speculation / Re: Our Competitions' Valuations on: October 23, 2012, 02:29:01 PM
I would go even further and say bitcoin will reach 1 billion USD market cap. Question is: When?  Grin

Easy. Whenever we have over 20,000,000 coins in circulation and the value is greater than or equal to $50  Tongue  Tongue
1095  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: here's just how screwed ASIC buyers are - READ THIS if you have a preorder on: October 23, 2012, 02:21:36 PM
Just wondering. Hypothetically, an ASIC manufacturer could mine with prototypes themselves (or have it done by an accomplice) and blame the increase in difficulty on another manufacturer.

Ha, good point. bASIC goes all out with mining and we all blame it on BFL  ..and then out of anger for BFL we start preordering from the competition  Grin
1096  Other / Off-topic / Re: Average age of BFL troll on: October 23, 2012, 02:16:35 PM
Lol that poll is ridiculously specific, which leads me to assume the OP is 16 or 17 (so they can pick the 'oldest' choice Wink)

If anything, the poll should be
<18
18-24
25-30
etc etc etc

And then we'll see the polls show everyone under 18 trolls BFL Tongue
1097  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: here's just how screwed ASIC buyers are - READ THIS if you have a preorder on: October 23, 2012, 02:03:22 PM
In spite of your (repeated) unwillingness to accept it, folks tend to have this thing called a "business model." In the case of BFL this business model is to sell hardware to all us crazy people who want to buy it. THIS is what they got investment capital on, not the power of Bitcoin, and their investors will (righteously) be pissed off if they find out BFL was using their own product (bad in the drug trade, bad in business) rather than selling it to their customers.

Mining with the equipment they want to sell would directly devalue said equipment as the potential profit falls and the next generation of hardware would have to be cheaper. Right now BFL can keep raising the (overall product) price with each generation, they don;t want to do anything to prevent that, including mining themselves.

You don't see Husqvana opening up a lumber mill, same principle here.

Quite right. The object is to keep your customers happy and coming back when you release product updates (or new products altogether). For BFL to use their own product would completely alienate the bitcoin community, effectively signing their own letter of insolvency as we all switch to using products from their competitors.

Our "Indian" wirmola is also active here in the Skandinavian board.

I wouldn't necessarily call one post 'active'...he's primarily active in securities and the Economy section in general...

Updated my Network Analysis from August to incorporate new data released by BFL, Avalon, bASIC, and a new average of mining pool worker speeds. As I expected, there was nearly a 70TH/s increase from my original minimum of 150TH/s, up to 217TH/s now. As a result, I've updated my financials to reflect profitability at a rate of 350TH/s (I try to maintain over a 100TH/s difference to ensure profitability can be achieved at much higher difficulties).

Due to the increase, I've reduced my buyback percentage from 32% per month to 30%, which maintains a stable balance sheet. And yes, it is still profitable as I expected it to be Tongue

EDIT: October 24th, 2012 -- Updated my October Analysis to include the new data BFL posted for their preorders, including the "Mini Single".

Here's my latest October Analysis.
Here are my updated Company Financials.
1100  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What will happen to all the "traditional" mines once the new ASIC based miners on: October 22, 2012, 06:57:22 PM
I think most people who are going to jump to LTC will do so hoping the price will increase. But then I wonder, if they're expecting the price to increase just to the point it's profitable, why is the price not going up today, when you can buy them for cheap? My only conclusion: nobody cares.

Haha you're probably quite right on this one. I started mining litecoins a few weeks ago, but I don't really see the point. If anything, the price of LTC/BTC is going down.
