3 blocks in 1 day. pray to the Bitcoin gods for more luck like this Smiley

here's my setup for the single S1 so far (some more on the way)

223  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Share your S1 stats on: June 26, 2014, 05:32:15 AM

what?

they need to have a high flow rate. that's measured in cfm. (cubic feet per minute)

Fort he ant you want absolute minimum 70cfm but I think generally over 100cfm is recommended. I am running 90cfm fans. many case fans are only 30cfm or so.

Yes, I understand flow rate. As important as flow rate when it comes to these applications is static pressure capability. AFAIK bitmain shipped with only fans capable of at least 130CFM, although many would never achieve that figure due to the poor thermal control of the miner firmware or because the fans were worn out from extensive "testing".

I guess I was confused as to why you wrote that "the problem is knowing what cfm they are, no guarantees."?

Buying these industrial fans isn't as much of a crap shoot, and the CFM and other parameters (e.g. static pressure) are all stated - and they are expected to meet these figures by major manufacturers (e.g. dell, who uses the part I pasted earlier in servers).
I found it hard to get a hold of the cfm figure for many fans listed on ebay and from other applications. 90cfm seems to be enough plus I have plenty of positive pressure coming from the ac duct. let me get a photo of it.

Cool...
Do you get any bonus for this?? Just curious....

0.5% of the block reward on p2pool right?

nice, at what hash rate?

Hello all, Has anyone used a stratum server with p2pool...
I have tried all configs and can not get it to work. Maybe someone outhere has the answer for me.
It would make my life so much easier then manually tuning 20 some odd machines to a node.....
THANKS!

that's a known issue with p2pool at the moment unfortunately.

<snip>
Last batch (bought may 2014) brand new, overclocked at 400~406 (depending on my mood and testing) running of a dell 2950 psu and sucking around 430w at the wall. All asic have heatsinks as do the vregs.

<snip>

Uptime              gh/S         GH/s Avg          HW Error    Rejected   fan speed   temp        Mhz    X's
0d 1h 8m 11s   209.46   205.78   0   1.0044%   4.7928   1620   1620     42       406     0X

I found the biggest difference makers were heatsinks on the vregs (on the back, opposite the asics) and fans suited to purpose. Speaking of which - why would you go with a 90CFM fan on the back? I don't think I ran a single fan under 130CFM+ front and back.

I ditched all my S1s in the spring, but I'll see if I can dig up some stats . I will say that the quality coming out of their factory is sh!t, some miners would be ace and others complete dogs. The cynic in me suspects that they would pull the worst miners from their farm stock and sell those out for each batch, pulling only from new stock if need be.

it's just what I could get at a reasonable price. it does alright for what it is. originally I had one in my case and bought a couple more. they only cost me around $30au where the 100+ cfm fans are up to $60AU each.

Wow - industrial DC fans are generally cheaper than PC fans, and should cost nowhere near that much. Try ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NMB-Dell-Optiplex-GX270-Case-Fan-DC-Brushless-Model-3615KL-04W-B86-12V-2-10A-/181444763166?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a3ef35e1e

the problem is knowing what cfm they are, no guarantees.

Ok, back to trying to build cgminer for the Antminer S1.

Thanks to some pointers from kano and norgan and in between watching way too much football I have made some progress but am still a little stuck.

I figured the best bet would be to try to get the Avalon instructions to work and once successful there adapt it for the S1 but that isn't being too successful!

I am basing this on the instructions here : https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=45693 changing cp package/cgminer/data/config .config to copy config.avalon.703n to .config (I have tried a couple of the others as well)

The error I am getting is "checking for LIBCURL... no" and the build stops with an error.  Having searched and searched the internet, not helped by the openwrt wiki being down, I have not got around that error.  However, in the cgminer readme it mentions curl is optional so does the Avalon (and susequently the Antminer S1) need curl, and if not how would I disable it.  If it does, how the heck do I get the make to find it?  I believe libcurl needs to be in the openwrt buildroot rather than associated with Ubuntu - but please correct me if this is wrong.  This error probably isn't really anything to do with cgminer but I figured someone on here may know the solution.

Also, when building I get the OpenWrt Configuration screen come up.  Does anything need changing in there?  Again I could find no help searching the internet.

Once I crack this, it should be straight forward to get this to work for the S1 as I already have the Makefile for that although the config files with it are still named after the Avalon but the actual code appears to have been changed for the S1 but there are a couple of choices still.

So, any further pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure when I will be online today as our electricity meter is being changed so I can move to a cheaper supplier!

you may need to pass the build switch that excludes drivers other than Bitmain. One of them would have the dependency for curl.

yeah I have my alerts at 46 degrees. I find the usb interface goes a bit crazy up around the 50's

ahh mine are S1's .. right now they are in the spare bedroom, but soon to be in their own climate controlled clean room ! Wink

no I mean internally the S1 has USB interfaces. if the temp goes high on mine I get logs saying USB device offline and the device resets.

ahh yeah gotcha !! that doesnt normally happen till around 58 degrees I thought....

around 50 for me I think. but one of my blades doesn't report temp or fan speed properly so that may be hitting 58..
234  Other / Off-topic / Re: BTC and taxes on: June 26, 2014, 01:05:05 AM
yes but is it mined or purchased btc? if you mine it, I can't se how they can consider it anything other than the money invested in hardware and when you finallt convert it to fiat.
If you purchase Bitcoin then fair enough, you've invested in a commodity.
i would rather not say cause i'm not sure how i'm going to report it. i don't see how the IRS expects tax on something that came out of thin air and was not purchased but i do see them pursuing every single angle of acquisition regardless of how i got it. they want their cut. period. i guess it's like inheriting a million dollars or old paintings that are worth a million. you didn't work for it and you didn't invest for it but it fell in your lap it's worth alot of money and they want a piece of it.

See in Australia lottery winnings are not taxed, nor are other prizes. So, if you could extend that to "I won a block" then is it winnings, investment, capital or other?
235  Bitcoin / Hardware / Share your S1 stats on: June 26, 2014, 01:02:47 AM
I'm interested to see the variance in these awesome little miners. How does your S1 perform for you? do you have it overclocked? What fans/heatsink mods have you got.

I'll start:

Last batch (bought may 2014) brand new, overclocked at 400~406 (depending on my mood and testing) running of a dell 2950 psu and sucking around 430w at the wall. All asic have heatsinks as do the vregs. Rear fan pushin is a thermaltake 90cfm and front fan has been reverse to suck air out. Currently it sits in a server rack with an AC duct behind it.

236  Other / Off-topic / Re: BTC and taxes on: June 26, 2014, 12:51:34 AM
is it all mined? if so then you have generated new cash right? how can that be an investment if you have not paid for it? the mining hardware is a capital investment sure.
If on the other hand you bought into it and made profit then it would be no different to any other commodity such as gold, silver or other.
if you google search bitcoin taxes you will see several articles about how the government is considering it an investment property like stocks. it's not money but it's worth money so you have to pay tax when you acquire it. before you can get to the point of investing in stocks you have to report where you got the money from and pay taxes on it. you can't skip that step and throw the money straight in stocks without reporting the source of the funds.

this is what i am being told.

check out this good egg! haha. I have an ac duct on the back of it cheekily and it sits in the server rack. one thermaltake 90cfm fan on the back pushing in and the stock fan sucking out the front. heatsinks on all asics and the vregs.

nice norgon!! right now I have 8 of my antminers underclocked due to temp control .. ( garage is being remodeled into an antminer farm, about 2 weeks until its done Sad )

the temps on these now are borderline max for me.. I prefer them to stay around 40-43 .. but works for now !

I've seen payouts before with the block reporting later. it could just be a delay in the stats?

Extremely useful app !! Ive been looking for something like this for months !! ( just came across this today ! )

Any chance theres an Android App on the horizon? Wink

thanks again, you saved me tons of time loggin into each ant every day multiple times !!! Smiley

I wondered this myself, but for Windows Phone. Multiminer is ok but not as up to date. I've got a cheeky nat rule to expose my ant to the internet so I can get to it from outside.
What do you think mdude? I could have a go at the windows phone version but my skills a pretty limited. it's all vb right?

Of all the mobile devices out there, the Windows phone would probably be the easiest to port it to, because it is .net.  If you use the visual studio express 2012 or higher (if there is a higher?) then you should be able to build it as a windows app.  Not sure of the intricacies.

M

I might give it a go. will probably need to have email alerts taken out. is github up to date mate?
