Hoolllyy fuckkkk that is NEWS to me.

Reading the BBC news article, this quote got to me:

Quote from: "Elie Wiesel, src: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56750103"
"We thought he was God. We trusted everything in his hands," Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel, whose foundation lost $15.2 million, said in 2009.

Like................................................bro. ^65 BILLION USD was involved in the scam what the fuck. Thats half of Bill Gates's net worth? To think of it that way, its crazyy.

I want to say fuck this guy for pulling off what he did, but he is a motherfuckin genius nonetheless that he pulled such a crazy stunt, which BY THE WAY worked flawlessly almost.

Also what is up with HSBC bank and scam artists. It truly amazes me. ref:

Quote from: "HSBC LOL source:https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56750103
UK banks were also among those who lost money, with HSBC Holdings saying it had exposure of around $1bn.
42  Other / Meta / Re: Change Account Password Regularly. on: April 09, 2021, 11:57:24 PM
For the last couple weeks, I'm actually in the process of consolidating all my passwords from Lockwise, GPG files and iCloud to LastPass. And I can tell you that migrating from one password manager to another is a very laborious process when you have hundreds of passwords. Makes me shy away from self-hosted password managers which can screw me over if they blow up (which Bitwarden actually did to me, I never even got it past the install stage).
Okay what the hell? How- what? huh? explain sir.

*psst. Aye m8, g'day. Based on my past research, Dashlane has been bloody reputable from what I remember.*

Unfortunately I can't recommend nor not-recommend it because I haven't tried it personally, but it seems pretty good. I'm just more of a fan of open-source.
*psst. [whispering slowily] I...love dashlane but-- they are switching to an entirely browser-based platform which I am not sure if I like.

*psst *psst *psst From all the password managers out there, I would only be able to recommend bitwarden because it's the only one that provides you with an option to self-host[1] your client. This means that you're not storing your encrypted passwords somewhere in the cloud (or bitwarden servers) but you're actually hosting that same environment but in a much more closer entity (your machine).

As a side note, you'll find in here - https://www.privacytools.io/  - a great list of apps and addons that you can use to increase your privacy in almost every spectrum of a computer use (programs, OS, Internet ...).

[1] https://bitwarden.com/help/article/install-on-premise/
*triple psst to you, ouuu.

Okay in all seriousness, I like the idea behind bitwarden, and I want to use it, but the reviews on it thus far are shaky. ssss. And I don't know if I trust windows to keep my files safe. Heckin hell this is.
43  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk forum holding 125 BTC on: April 09, 2021, 07:28:30 PM
Wowow don't say things like that, people will believe it Smiley. The reality for most mods is much less.
Mods get paid in BTC, everything is on the blockchain and accessible to everyone with a minimum of research.

I know what I do for what I'm paid (and I'm not complaining), but I really can't even imagine what those who get the most must do (in terms of handled reports and all the other inconveniences).
My bad, I was certain I read somewhere, where a mod said they got paid around 1000$ in bitcoin, at that time. Not saying its the case right now, but still don't want to cause a confusion. Apologizo.

You mods really are the goats and are hella under-appreciated. Let this post be an appreciation for everything YOU and the other mods do. You make the forum more nice for us. So thank you.

The vast majority get paid less than that, depends on their activity and whether they're Global mods or not (the latter are paid more per action, IIRC). Current forum funds also amount to >1250 BTC: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155000.0 (I'm writing this number here in case someone still failed to follow the link.)

Which means the forum will never have any problems to self-sustain financially.
Interesting, thanks for sharing that, I didn't know. I was under the impression that the payment scale was only based on reports graded/wtv. Good to know.

What if I tell you guys forum used to hold 5500 BTC…. but that was 10 years ago.. of course there is cost involved. Running this community of 3.2m users is not free and specially cost to epochtalk , so it would be insane if someone thinks forum still holding this much BTC

The forum has about 650 760 920 1120 1720 2267 3000 5500 BTC on hand at this moment, but you can bid more than that.
I am aware of this. Forum had more than  6000 BTC too: in the year 2013, the forum had received a grand total of 6499 BTC.

The last mod payment resulted in the mods getting a total of 0.1844BTC, and was sent in the middle of March. I looked at the previous ad auctions going back a month (based on the end date) prior to the mod payment being sent, and the forum received a total of 0.325BTC from selling ads. So it looks like last month, the forum spent about 56% of their revenue on mods. At current prices, that leaves about $8100 to pay for hosting, and any other expenses the forum may incur.

I am not sure how much hosting costs the forum per month, but it is probably a decent amount based on the amount of traffic it gets.
Wow thats some zuckerburg skills right ere, Mister. Pretty cool, pretty cool; guess you learn something errydayyayayay. What I am suprised by is even with such a huge btc price surge, people are still spending crazy money on forum ads(0.325 btc = 18,950 USD rn).

Few things:

Forum holds more than 125 BTC. Multiple people have access to the forum funds via Multi-sig. For more info in detail, read : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155000.0

Forum spends most of the money of Epochtalk, and to pay out mods. Epochtalk is the new forum software which has been in development for ~8 years. The board for epochtalk is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0
Do they invest or something to keep a steady bitcoin because paying mods is going to be draining those bitcoin and the forum software that you are talking about is going to add to that expenses too. Are there still donators to this day that bitcoin price is high.
No, the btc is just kept in a multi-sig wallet. And the last donator that donated was back in 2017? And mods dont get paid from the donation money, they get paid from the forum ads that are sold.

44  Other / Meta / Re: Change Account Password Regularly. on: April 09, 2021, 01:12:17 PM
I am using LastPass since last few years, it has been serving well, what made you stop using it if I may ask(considering you used 'was' in sentence)?

*psst. Ex-LastPass user here. Use Bitwarden instead. It's free (but I recommend paying just to help out the devs), it's open-source, and you can self-host as well.*

Disclaimer: Not affiliated. Just a fan.
*psst. Current-dashlane user here! Heard a wee bit on Bitwarden, is it better than Dashlane do you reckon oui matêë? *

I change my password occasionally--not too often, and usually after I get paranoid about the forum getting hacked.  It's probably not a bad idea for a member to do that from time to time (and to pick a strong one, too), because people have certainly lost their accounts to hackers in the past and no doubt it'll happen again.

If there's a downside to doing so, I think it might be that it's a major pain in the ass to recover your account if you forget your password, but maybe a moderator can clarify that.  There's also the issue of people thinking your account might have changed hands if you happen to change both your password and your e-mail at the same time (which I think I've also done).

The security on bitcointalk, as far as I can tell, is questionable and I do wonder how vulnerable the forum is to another major hacking.  It's been a while since the last one, but I've no idea what goes on behind the scenes.
Dude, your paranoia is NOT bad;; for someone like you especially, considering how many rat cum eaters are after you/your account/rep/ lê chipmixer status, etc,.

Its been what over 6 years, since the last hack? You never though what is to happen ;.;

<yes, this is me subtly hinting on where new forum is Sad iamwaiting.png />
45  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor One vs Ledger Nano S-which one is safer? on: April 02, 2021, 08:30:53 PM
Hey guys,I heard that cryptocurrency aren't actually stored on hardware wallets at all.
They just make some kind of barrier between online wallet and hackers.
Is that true, because I felt really safe knowing that they'll be stored on device itself and cutoff from internet and PC,although I'm aware I'll had to go online to make a transaction.
That's correct. The coins are not stored in any type of wallets. They are always on the blockchain. Your hardware wallet stores the private keys that allows you to spend and control those coins. Ledger, for example, has a secure element. The private keys are stored in the secure element and kept offline even when you are connected to the Internet. If your device is malware infected, a virus still wouldn't be able to get to your keys. When you make a transaction, you give the wallet permission to sign for it by pressing the buttons on your hardware device.

So,I guess Trezor have a secure element as well, just like Ledger?
Once I get Trezor,I won't have to worry about that someone can hack into my Coinbase account whether I'm offline or online and steal anything?
So even if coins aren't actually stored on device itself, nobody can ever hack my wallet,if I keep seed words written on paper and device stored on secure place?
Pretty much you wont need to use coinbase if you have a ledger or trezor. Make sure your seed is safe and secure!!!!!

If you're buying a ledger, I would suggest you to buy a Ledger nano X instead of Ledger Nano S. Personally, if you ask me, I would prefer a ledger over a trezor(mainly cause of the UI and personal preference and I like ledger live).

Ask us any other questions you have!
46  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk forum holding 125 BTC on: April 02, 2021, 09:45:25 AM
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on either of those points.
You are not wrong. According to mexxer-2 post from 2016, a portion of the 25% of the bitcoin the forum generated through ads was intended for mod payments according to a formula. If the formula is correct, the most active moderators earned 0.3% or more per month, each. This was confirmed by Quickseller further down in the thread.
As far as I can tell, the percentage is now higher than 25%. The ad auctions are not bringing in much bitcoin right now and the forum has grown enough to need a lot of mods. My guess is that the mods get nearly all of the forum ad revenue and hosting is paid for out of the forum’s reserves.
Do you really think so? From what I can recall mods get paid around 1000-2000$ a month on a normal basis if they handle a certain portion of reports. I am not sure if this is still the case though. Mods get paid in terms of how many reports they relatively handle. Ref: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5294865.msg55717644#msg55717644

OTOH, I came across this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=234009.msg2480445#msg2480445 which basically proves the forum had more than 6000 BTC in funds.

48  Economy / Economics / Re: The Permanent Portfolio method by Harry Browne on: March 26, 2021, 11:49:22 PM
Cool portfolio but so 1990. Have we not seen enough recessions and market fails? There is a new market fail in the crypto market everyday for fuck sake. We saw what happened to the stocks like GameStop and such.

The idea is cool, simplify your portfolio but fuck gold. It can suck a dirt penis for all I care.

I think the ideal portfolio in 2021 would be to add in either a 5th element for crypto and divide it with a portion of bitcoin/some good DeFis/aspiring NFTs/solid alts like Eth. Spice it up.  Cheesy

Also, very crucial time for real estate investments. Covid has fucked up the real estate market sooo damn hard. If people can get hands to something good, in the long run it will be :chef's kiss:.
49  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk forum holding 125 BTC on: March 26, 2021, 10:01:43 PM
Forum holds more than 125 BTC.
Holy shit, I didn't realize it was that much.  I actually thought it was much, much less--but then again, I don't pay much attention, since I never donated and it's none of my business what the forum does with its money.

You said part of that gets paid to the mods, but I thought I also heard that they get paid very little and also that it depends on how much moderating they do.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on either of those points.  But jeez, with 125BTC the forum could afford to pay for a ton of moderators even if it paid well.

And how much does it cost to upgrade the forum, anyway?  With bitcoin at $55k or so, you'd think 125BTC would more than cover it (but I won't complain about that either, since I'm kind of a fan of the way the forum is now).
I am pretty sure Forum at one point had earned/received around 6000 BTC, IIRC. One of the ref links: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=236325.0

The forum also has some amount of BCH and other forks I think? theymos said he will check some time in the future but don't know anything beyond that. Ref: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2044276.0

Furthermore, 250 bitcoins were lost due to pariapan's sudden death unfortunately. So if you want to get 62.5 BTC, better find out which motherfucker gained access to his/the forums coins.  Tongue

Seems like they accept paypal according to this: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/212763688755026?id=160022731342707

So if you want you can sell your btc to paypal to someone here on the forum perhaps?

Any particular reason why you don't want to use a VCC?? Also, depending on your region/country, there are some local payment options available as well. So you can opt for that if your region/country provides so.

52  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Tesla Bitcoin payment processor? on: March 24, 2021, 05:52:49 PM
What bitmover said^ and also this:

A handful of mainstream brands have allowed customers to make purchases with bitcoin through third-party processors, but Tesla suggested it might accept bitcoin directly as part of a broader plan to incorporate the cryptocurrency into its investment portfolio.

Sources: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-crypto-currency-tesla-payments-idUSKBN2A82O0

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/24/business/elon-musk-tesla-bitcoin.html

Regardless, pretty cool fucking move by Tesla. Its almost, just almost astonishing to see you can directly buy almost 2 Tesla's with 1 fucking bitcoin. Shit makes me so happy to hear and see. And who else but Elon Musk to integrate bitcoin as a payment option for purchasing cars. He may be a fucking prat with dumb memes on twitter, but he makes good decisions at times as well.

Good move by Tesla/Musk.

53  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PayPal VS robinhood Which is the worst for buying bitcoin? on: March 24, 2021, 04:25:31 PM
I want to say PayPal?? PayPal bans way more accounts than Robinhood so if that is the determining factor, Paypal would be the worst any fucking day.

But given robinhood's sketchiness, I would be a fool to even think if Robinhood ain't no worse than Paypal for buying bitcoin. Sure, robinhood might be an amazing platform for individuals to do stock trading. But crypto? I would choose binance over Robinhood eyes closed with dick in hand.

Either way both of them have more cons than pros realistically speaking, so don't be a fool to use these platforms to purchase/interact with any crypto.
54  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Best exchange with lowest fees to sell BTC on: March 19, 2021, 10:49:07 PM
Have you tried these?
https://cex.io/
https://global.bittrex.com/

But I like the suggested above, binance fo now is a very common trading exchange that has a low fee. I think they are reliable when it comes to fees.
For the alternate solution, used altcoin upon withdrawal because they had a low fee that supported your local exchange. TRON, XRP, or even BNB.
Do NOT try these. While they aren't scam exchanges, they will block your account if you don't provide kyc details.

Same for binance, you need kyc for p2p trading.

If you don't mind giving your personal details, here are a couple of exchanges: Binance, coinbase and localbitcoins. Do I suggest you to use these? Absolutely not, not for localbitcoins anyway.

However, I do suggest you these exchanges that are NON-kyc and also peer-to-peer:  localcrytpos, bisq, hodlhodl. These are the 3 best non-kyc exchanges that won't block your account. Also you have control of funds. So!!!!

Also have a look at this: https://kycnot.me/

And this: Help: A list of LocalBitcoin alternatives (P2P marketplaces)

55  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 12, 2021, 04:37:48 PM
-   Animated signatures.
Ability to add animated avatars and even images (regardless of size) in signatures was removed so not sure how that would pass.
Yeah but it could come back too Sad

-   Access to new and private chatrooms and/or boards.

I think the right time to monetize the forum in this way has passed.
Okay maybe we don't have to monetize it? Maybe the ranks could be allotted to specific people like: DT members, Merit sources ya know? Since the forum administration plays a big role in both deciding DT1 members and merit sources, these members surely deserve a rank for themselves. For everything they have done. I mean imagine how cool it would be if DT members have like a police siren as their badge or something.  Shocked

Or like GLOWING SIGNATURE? pew pew pew

I remember you telling in the past you brought it up to theymos in the staff board, any luck yet?     And I quite vividly remember discussing the potential benefits that these new ranks could include, that too years ago. Oh well. We can only keep discussing about it.
Similar ideas were raised by many people, and afaik theymos commented publicly (~somewhere~) about this and didn't seem particularly enthused.
Yeah like hilarious said, what else can the community do other than just suggest :/

But a novelty at this cost, is it worth considering that it is almost worthless realistically?

I created the Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) thread a while back: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4893744.0

And theymos did post in there somewhere with his opinions on them. Think they were separated into three categories like yes, no, maybe so you can see where he stands on certain things.
Yeah I remember reading about it too, but damn I really hoped we would go somewhere from there.

I don't think images would be a big deal and could be one of the benefits of the highest donator tier. I think they were originally removed along with gifs for being too flashy/distracting or something, but signature designs have evolved over the years and many of them can be pretty flashy so I don't think there would be much difference between images and bbcodes really. I think people found a loophole on the avatars as well as some of them are animated.
While I understand why an attack using images could be made, there could also be security measures taken against accordingly. Also, see you get it, something could be done.
56  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk bug? on: March 12, 2021, 11:54:10 AM
Nope, I didn't use any extensions recently, well this bug does not work on the Microsoft edge I have a big feeling because of the screen size.
It seems like the issue is either due to some CSS extension loaded onto your browser or you messed with screen resolutions. Cause I am using chrome as we speak and it is perfectly ok.

Have you checked the issue in incognito mode? Usually extensions aren't loaded into incognito so you can check if its the extensions that is causing you the issue.
57  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is Theymos really a lauda? on: March 12, 2021, 12:17:08 AM
Most definitely not. theymos has been in the scene for far more long than lauda ever has/was. Also theymos's info is more public than lauda's ever has. You will know the difference when you google theymos[1] and lauda [2].

Free advice: don't bother wasting time on figuring out who lauda is. People have tried more harder than you think and have ended up with nothing.

59  Economy / Reputation / Re: Chipmixer campaign by the constant pressure of the hypocrite? on: March 09, 2021, 08:53:15 PM
Dude there are so many fucking reasons why people just keep coming after CM:

- Chipmixer has been the longest, highest paying campaign thus far. It has paid its participants more in bitcoin than any other sig. campaign. I am talking 100s and 100s of Bitcoins. Before the payments changed, there used to be payments of over 150k-200k$ every week. People kill for that money. So you know?

- The whole DT and merit crap, so many people give a shit about it and chipmixer participants usually have alot of merit to give away and half of them are pretty much DT members. What can I say, cult of DarkStar_ runs the forum.  Roll Eyes

- Now that people like Lauda/Lutpin/Bruno/twitchy seal etc etc are not active anymore, the trolls need someone to target, don't they now?

The people actually in the campaign don't give a flying rainbow fuck about these trolls, cause we have been seeing it day in and day out. The trolls if anything, are helping us. We are getting paid to shit talk back to their utter abhorant-stinking-3rd world garbage posting posts while the trolls are sucking their own shit from their own butt.

Honestly, shoutout to DarkStar_, he has pretty much single handedly made the whole forum get jealous of CM participants.  Grin

So long as you did not provide a wrong address, and you're sure the address was generated by your ledger, it should show up.
