621  Other / Meta / Re: How “we” do you feel? on: September 05, 2018, 06:43:22 PM
When I joined this forum, over a year ago, I was thinking in terms of “I”, like: “I’m going to see what all this is about” “I’m going to try to learn about bitcoin” “I don’t know if this will be too difficult for me”, and so on.

I’ve been increasingly involved with the forum and now I think more in terms of “we”, the same way as Jet Cash on this thread.

Did the same happen to you?

Or maybe the opposite? I mean, maybe you were once hopeful and excited about the things that could be done by the community and after seeing how it the forum has declined and all the shitposting you became more distant.

What is your personal experience?
The "I" part becomes a "we" when you're a regular meta poster, or have regular conversations with other members, in different sections. I was thinking as,"I am gonna do this , I am gonna do that" and I still do, but when you need to do something to big enough that might have to change things around, then you start thinking as "we", if that makes any sense.

This forum does a weird thing to you. With all of its problems, and all of its ball aches it pulls you in, and keeps you here. You eventually become quite passionate about something that isn't even yours. You become passionate about the community as you become part of the community.
I fucking know right? I literally ask this everyday to myself, believe it or not: "What the fuck am I doing in this forum?". And I'll be honest, sometimes I feel like "Ah,this shit is fucking boring." So I just go and read some shitposts, and get back to weird normal person who I was. I have even had thoughts on leaving this forum(despite the fact that I am in the highest paying campaign), but just can't do it, you know what I mean?

Bitcointalk is sort of the only forum I have been part of, and yeah this is it.
622  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Source application. on: September 05, 2018, 04:44:15 PM
No posts from me? Fail.
That’s because your posts aren’t of enough quality. Lol!
Chipmixer participant btw.

I imagined that this wouldn’t be a priority and that, if I was going to get accepted, it would take some time. But what was most important is that for me this was a challenge: I knew it was going to be difficult, I knew that I was maybe going to not get accepted, but I want to be a merit source and I did my work to become so. I actually enjoyed it.
Oh hell yeah. I applied on February 9, and I am still waiting. Loyce waited for like 4 months.

I am out of merits buddy. If I had enough merits I would have merited them all. That’s the point. No one merited them and I believe they deserve at least, the very least, one merit.

And as I have explained above, I don’t send merits to Legendaries currently, so I’m not going to merit Theymos, Jet Cash, etc.
It makes sense that legendaries shouldn't be merited, but that's not how its supposed to be, however it has become that. Merit whoever you want, as long as they make good posts. Just let that be your mindset.

Goodluck with your application. If you get approved before me, I'll be jealous of you,and will follow you around like QS & co.  Angry </sarcasm>
Sarcasm btw.
I know.  Lips sealed
623  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Shapeshift Membership on: September 05, 2018, 03:53:12 PM
What the hell? Man, I loved shapeshift, well RIP!  Cry

The main reason that I used shapeshift was that no membership bullshit was required. No KYC, no fuckall shit. So only changelly is left, well won't be surprised if changelly does the same thing. Is there any valid reason behind or is it the original classic, compulsory KYC idiocy?
624  Other / Meta / Re: ADD http://fonstavka.com/ as new/old phishing site?! on: September 04, 2018, 11:23:29 PM

625  Other / Meta / Re: Most entertaining person on bitcointalk - POLL - 12 days - 3 votes per member on: September 04, 2018, 10:02:46 PM
Won't be surprised if QS wins, IFKWIM.  Roll Eyes

QS is "winning" tons of material for his Bitcointalk telenovela. This thread is a goldmine for conspiracy theories.
I had to search what telenovela was, and wow. QS, and Lauda, both have enough material to run a telenovela ,and should last longer than any of the other telenovela.

Btw, the thread is closed.  Undecided
626  Other / Meta / Re: Is having an alt account a crime ? Why red trust for having one ? on: September 04, 2018, 09:50:23 PM
What's with everybody linking the same Rick Astley's song? I know I am missing out on something, not sure what it is.

I hadn't even considered the certain campaigns that require at least 1 merit, and look at that, Eroiy is one of them... You've convinced me, even if you weren't intending to, that OP had the intentions to abuse. Sending 1-merit to your alt and then enrolling that alt in a campaign that requires at least 1-merit, and you had not received any merit previously..
They were accepted to campaign on January 26., while they've sent merit on February 2.
Well, I can't argue on this one, they used that merit to receive higher payment - somehow I missed it.
I really wonder how that happened, with all these information from reference links (2 PM's with different signatures, wrong connection in known alts Roll Eyes)

OP is being misleading about their situation though, because suggesting that you were tagged for simply having an alt account is incorrect.
Actually, reference to OP's feedback was pointing to this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2544574.msg36254804#msg36254804 and he was tagged for this. TP changed feedback to merit abuse after pointed that connection is not good.

And after all this you pointed they sent merit because there was merit requirement for that campaign, I believe everyone in this topic missed that part.
Fair enough, its up to TP and yahoo if they want to leave negative or not. 0.0005BTC wasn't a lot at that time, but still it maybe a reason for merit abuse.

I nominate Huge Black Woman. Go through the post history and read the threads this user commented on. Always gave me a big laugh
Isn't that TP's alt? Somewhere in the past I heard it, iirc it was from Timelord2067. But then again, it's timelord2067.  Roll Eyes
629  Other / Meta / Re: Most entertaining person on bitcointalk ? on: September 03, 2018, 09:27:58 PM
There are so many people here that are humorous. I'll list a few too:

- LeGaulois
- Last of the V8s

Wasn't mixan someone who was crazy af?

Oh don't forget Nobatman and BADecker.
630  Other / Meta / Re: Is having an alt account a crime ? Why red trust for having one ? on: September 03, 2018, 03:24:33 PM
TP,you shouldn't take half of Timelord's connections. They hardly make any sense. No offense to timelord2067, but still doesn't change the reality. He even accused me of being TheUltraElite's alt just because we used the edit button a lot, and used to report the same type of accounts and we used to use the word "This". Strong connection, don't you think? Roll Eyes

The OP really doesn't deserve a negative for that, sending a Pm from an alt account could be an honest mistake, and a red tag for it is beyond too much.
631  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism vs honest mistakes: BAN or nuance? on: September 03, 2018, 02:46:37 PM
Its hard to believe his story, especially when he said that he misquoted and made a post, but you don't make a same mistake twice or perhaps more on the same day.

Loyce, not a lot of people here give others a benefit of the doubt, and you stood up for him and when he's guilty, you made the right choice. That's very ethical and professional of you.  Smiley And no, you're not turning soft.
632  Other / Meta / Re: How can we stimulate Bitcoin Talk? on: September 02, 2018, 09:30:50 PM
I admit that things are getting boring here. You can hardly discuss about stuff here. There are very few members that like to discuss, and most things just get repeated on and on.

Everyday we see someone complaining about account recoveries, someone talking about bots, someone talking about shitcoin bounties. We see the same suggestions literally everyday in meta. So if that's not boring, I don't know what is.

I have suggested that global mods should be given the ability to whitelist/blacklist signatures, that could help curbing down spam in a BIG way. If a user is spamming too much, they should be reported(through report to moderator button), and if they qualify to be mere spammers, then their signatures can be blacklisted. Its a win-win situation. No "restriction", and lesser spam, at least hopefully.
633  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Lauda, MinerJones, Blazed | Missing escrow funds on: September 02, 2018, 05:46:46 PM
The accusation is that a portion of the money being held in escrow was stolen or otherwise misappropriated

Forgive me, but what is the evidence for this accusation? If there is solid evidence to suggest this happened, then I would love to hear it. It would go a long way towards convincing more than just myself. So far though, I have just heard baseless speculation and it leaves me unable to come to any conclusion about the situation. If there was substantial evidence that would suggest money was stolen, then I agree that transparency beyond what was previously agreed to could be desirable; at least to get to the bottom of things, and dish out financial justice for those negatively affected.
People couldn't understand how 3000 btc became less than 1500,after converting alts to btc and spending money on "development".
634  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: August 31, 2018, 11:53:52 PM
DarkStar_, have you ever considered counting posts made in Politics & society, especially after a Mod was added there, and spam has noticeably reduced?

Also, speaking of P&S, I think you counted one of my posts I made in that section couple of weeks ago(I forgot to remind you I guess), so you can cut payment for one post or something for this current or next round.
635  Other / Meta / Re: License for bounty managers on: August 31, 2018, 11:47:51 PM
Of course it will survive. I'm not sure survive is the right word you're using here. The forum isn't going to 'die' when the traffic continues to grow due to bounties and sig campaigns. The majority of traffic will be trash and the forum will become even worse than it already is and unfit for it's true purpose in the process, but it wont die.
Probably, the forum would more or less become "useless" and the whole point of it being a forum would be non-existing.

The forum is badly understaffed in my opinion, but I honestly don't know whether theymos prefers it that way with minimal moderation and rules etc. It doesn't make for a very usable or user-friendly forum though and you can see that from the number of complaints about various issues.
I honestly have no clue why theymos hasn't bothered to release the official rules for this forum, if there's no official rules, people will think of this as a decentralized forum.

Semantics. Either more admins need to be added or more people doing admin duties. Doesn't matter what title you give them. If theymos doesn't trust some of the current staff members with some of this then they probably shouldn't be mods in the first place. You could have people running the ad slots without them even having to hold any money if that was something he's worried about. Theymos could continue to hold the addresses and the staff member is just in charge of making sure the money gets paid there. Sure, a staff member might try divert funds to addresses owned by them but is that worth ruining their account over? They probably couldn't get away with that much for a monthly ad slot anyway and there are probably easier ways a staff member could make money or even scam someone here.
I don't think money is the issue here. There's more to it,than what meets the eye. theymos, it'll take a few minutes, but its for you to address the community about the issues. And where's the new forum? Just give us the answers, and we'll shut our mouths(not really).

He also isn't happy with the spam just like everyone else, so a compromise needs to be found here. You don't have to remove signatures either but the culture needs to change and only those making quality contributions should be getting paid here. If this forum is going to continue as it is then it is no longer fit for anything other than being a welfare system for those who will just continue to find ways to cheat and abuse it.
Don't remove everybody's signature, when people spam they are temp banned right? Don't do that, first blacklist their signatures, and if they continue to shitpost, then temp ban, then perma ban. That may or may not help. Global mods should have the ability to blacklist or whitelist signatures.

Well that's a misconception they're going to need to get over or actually think about what they're complaining about. Just because something is decentralised doesn't mean there are no rules. Bitcoin has rules. You can't complain that there should be more bitcoins in existence or bitcoin should be the run the way you want it because decentralisation.
Even some high ranked members who contribute a lot ,think that the forum isn't "censored" and it isn't centralized. And they can do whatever they want, it'd make sense to anybody if people are *allowed* to scam, so they are allowed anything else they want.  Lips sealed
636  Economy / Reputation / Re: ICO listing site "icoholder.com" Spamming with multiple accounts on: August 31, 2018, 11:30:43 PM
To be honest, I don't think they are blackmailing anyone here, do you have proof of your claim?
Maybe they aren't blackmailed. Maybe icoholder.com is paid for listing them, its the other way around? Some private dealings between the scam ico and the icoholder.com?

Maybe icoholder.com isn't even aware of the scam ICO to be an actual scam, and they are just doing it for the money?

The projects aren't given any "rating", so should that give any benefit of the doubt?
637  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Offline websites after token sales on: August 31, 2018, 11:25:30 PM
Aren't every ICO a scam?  Roll Eyes

They raise money by promising unrealistic things and then you never hear of the site again. They just somehow get their shit-token listed on an exchange, and you never hear of them again.

Someone should probably do a review on these, there's a slight chance that there might be false positives.
638  Other / Meta / Re: Custom title for the inventor of "HODL"? on: August 31, 2018, 11:04:39 PM
Sure, theymos would definitely go ahead and give a custom title to someone who isn't active, who created(misspelled) a word by being drunk and that became the most popular crypto world. Is the internet broken? Nah.

Not required. It would make more sense if he's active, but if you can convince theymos to give them a VIP tag, go ahead. Because Hal Finney got it(for free), for his wonderful real contributions. Also Magical Tux got it too, for hosting the forum.
639  Other / Meta / Re: Copper membership on: August 31, 2018, 10:55:57 PM
end of story for you maybe, not for me.
Alrighty, here's something you don't know.

LTU_btc got his account recovered in November within 4 days. Refer here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2419748.msg24907492#msg24907492

Bitcoinbazaar.net aka premium_domainer also got his account recovered this year. Refer here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2721567.msg27843795#msg27843795

So your accusation of 0 accounts being restored this past calender year is no longer alive.

Account recoveries are headache, it may not seem like it, but it is a big one. One reason why:

IP logs can be easily checked. Its literally a single button: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=profile#admins

Sometimes the issue is that, the Bitcoin address that is staked, its private key is sold along with the account. If the old account holder used a VPN/TOR and the new account holder also does the same, then investigation becomes complicated.

Now theymos's statement on account recovery:

maybe theymos and cyrus should just take a day or two out of every month to investigate and restore them.

It would take at least a couple hours every day to deal with them. Each case typically requires a lot of follow-up. And it's really annoying work. I used to do them sort-of regularly, but at some point I just couldn't stand it anymore, in addition to not really having time. Cyrus is still doing some, though not enough to keep up.

There's no need for any fee, and a fee probably wouldn't be appropriate unless absolutely necessary. Money is not a problem. If I could throw $100k at the problem and make it go away, I would do so. But in the real world, there is no magic wishing well where you can throw money and make things happen. You give people money and they don't do what you want, or the people you hire turn out not to be trustworthy, or you fill out the tax forms wrong and then later have to spend more time&money dealing with that than you would've by just doing the thing with current sub-optimal resources, etc.

I acknowledge that the current situation is very bad, and we have some plans for fixing it. I hope to have manual account reviews going smoothly again before the end of the year at the latest.

theymos mentioned before about hiring someone with a business degree or something to run the forum

Yes, this would be very useful. I hate that I'm basically acting as a CEO here. I hate dealing with lawyers and accountants, or figuring out who to hire. This stuff is not my wheelhouse, and is in fact not even on my ship. I wish that someone would take all of that business-related stuff off my hands. But it looks like that's the one aspect which is most difficult to (safely) get rid of, so I've been trying (with only a bit of success) to delegate in other areas.
640  Other / Meta / Re: Forum rules are not interesting to anyone, even moderator Cyrus on: August 31, 2018, 10:46:15 PM
Here's what you can do:

- Report the posts that you think are off-topic,valueless or they are unnecessarily trolling.

- You got negative feedback, which by the untrusted, so no would give a fuck about it, nor should you care, this is the internet. If you can't handle things like this, you shouldn't be here.

And enough with the annoying emboldened big-ass font. Its annoying, and people will only ignore you.
