741  Other / Meta / Re: Allowing Mods to Delete Scam Threads (Marketplace) on: August 13, 2018, 11:18:02 PM
I'm also not referring to all potential scam threads but more so to the few with the tale tale signs.

That's the problem. By just saying that the board is not moderated for scams that absolves the forum of all responsibility. Once you try to start policing it then you are responsible.

I don’t think there’s really a legal case here. If it was a matter of legalities then that statement could be amended in a way that still absolves the forum from any liabilities whilst allowing appropriate practices to be enforced.
I’m not saying my idea is the perfect solution, but the marketplace section has become quite the mess and this is a good way to go about cleaning it and establishing some order IMO.
I was told that theymos used to moderate scams, but when things started going awry, theymos decided not to. There was more than just a conflict of interest, apparently people also got banned for going against theymos/saying some shit, I don't know how true that is, but that is what I read(from some thread in 2013, regarding the entire "illegal stock exchange" thingy).

You could use a reship service, but be careful, some apparently ask for KYC, and these are a little costly, I used one recently and paid around 70$.
Also, aTriz almost got doxed because of sharing his personal info, so better not share any personal information.

Go here: Show unread posts since last visit or watchlist and click the new button on which ever thread you want to,scroll down and see if someone has quoted your post or has replied to you or not.
I think you misunderstood buddy. I know that we can look for new replies on the thread through these links but that's not what I want. I am particularly looking for a method where if a person has quoted your post then you get a notification for it or a place where we can find the threads where a person has quoted our text.
I know you were asking for that, but that doesn't exist, and I probably don't think theymos will implement this any time soon. There are more pressing concerns here that are left unhandled. You gotta make do with what there is, unfortunately.

Activity increases every 14 days, so, no matter what, you can put hundred of quotes and yet, you will have 15 activity as much every 14 days... so...
Do you mean 14 activity?

748  Other / Meta / Re: New type of off-topic Off Topic bots on: August 12, 2018, 02:10:21 PM
Can anyone tell me what is the target of those people who stay such kind of posts? To me its illogical and simply has no sense.
To add to the list: Bump Bots. If they reach Jr. Member rank, they can't get caught through patrol anymore, and a higher rank means a higher fee for their bumping "services".
Thank you for the explanation of the target of such posters, but how can they rank up to Jr member when there is the merit system from January? Or now here the talk is about merit trading?
They don't rank up. They just shitpost random shit and end up getting nuked. But in some cases, yes there is merit trading and merit abuse, but only an idiot would send their merits to a bot who they know will end up getting banned.
749  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature Anti-Spam Campaign Managers on: August 12, 2018, 02:00:03 PM
We will be able to see their reputations and who is the best bounty manager where we can invest our time for bounty hunting.
Oh god, what have I done Embarrassed . theymos, this one is on you.  Tongue Good luck, managers, I am sorry in advance.
750  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: August 12, 2018, 01:36:04 PM

Do you guys have any spots left?  Smiley
As the title says, "[FULL]", I think there's no open slot for now Smiley

The OP also says they make exceptions for excellent accounts such as Vlad2Vlad.  Smiley
IIRC, DarkStar_ has accepted only 3 members based on their Trust, and those were : SFR10, Lauda, and SaltySpitton(who was at that time a Global Mod). The Pharmacist and actmyname, did apply when there were no spots, but they were rejected. They were later on added, when there were actual open spots.

Edit:

Read this post:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1935179.1080

Just for future reference, how trusted is this "very trusted"?

Regarding this quote from the original post: "Note: If the campaign is full, but you are a very trusted member of the community, feel free to apply."
Sounds pretty obscure to me.I don't understand the co-relation between writing great posts and being very trusted. There could be a case where a member is "very trusted" but writes trash, would he qualify as one of them ? Giving it another point of view,OP probably wants their signature to be carried by respected/trusted members for branding purposes which is understandable.

You must be trusted and have good post quality for me to open a spot. Originally I put
Quote
Note: If the campaign is full, but you are a very trusted member of the community or have exceptional post quality, feel free to apply.

However, way too many people felt like they had exceptional post quality, when they don't come close so I ended up removing it. So far, the only two I've accepted under that were SFR10 and Lauda.

Just for future reference, how trusted is this "very trusted"?

Regarding this quote from the original post: "Note: If the campaign is full, but you are a very trusted member of the community, feel free to apply."

Unfortunately I don't have a definite answer for you. I don't have a fixed number of trust points someone has to have to join under this condition, and it also depends on whether you're known in the community.
751  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions for improving the forum on: August 12, 2018, 01:30:25 PM
Very funny Smiley. You're right. English is not my first language. My language is Russian. From the discussions in the Russian section you can see. Merit system does not understand even Full Member.
Maybe here there are people Legendary or Hero Member for whom the Russian language is the first?Explain to us . Where's the justice?
Maybe in English section of the forum Merit system helps. And in the Russian section - on the contrary. Or explanation is not reasonable. Huh
For once, I thought this wasn't about the stupid merit system, but oh well. Fuck me, I should have seen this bitching coming soon.

To clear a few things up: That joke wasn't intended to you, I never said your English is bad, and the Russian Board is the most active and the first ever local board that was created in bitcointalk. Merit is awarded in tons in that section, by Xandry, Xal0lex etc. And English isn't my first language either, not even my second, nor is it my third ,but rather its the forth language. So stop bitchin!
752  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CEX.io questions on: August 12, 2018, 12:25:50 PM
Whenever some issue comes up regarding CEX, they usually answer it here itself, their account is very active here, which is a good thing, as not a lot of exchanges have a regular and active support here.

Their account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=148073 (Last active was today). You shouldn't worry about making 3000$ transactions, it won't be a big issue(at least I hope not).
753  Other / Meta / Re: Researching the types of account blocks on: August 12, 2018, 12:14:11 PM
Few things:

Modlog is different than seclog.

Accounts that were created before 2015 and were inactive, if they wake up suddenly and try to make password/email changes, those accounts get locked(its automated IIRC).

Global mods(or at least Hilariousandco)/admins can lock and unlock accounts, when required.

Also do we have any other blocks?..
In terms of ban, yes: Perma ban, temp ban and nuke(only applies for newbies).

There were shadowbans for newbies,I don't think they still exist though.

All the 3 cases apply when the original user/ hacker tries to change the password and email, the time of when the last account was used is what makes the messages differ.
754  Other / Meta / Re: 2 suggestions to eliminate bumping services & the spam being encouraged in Anns on: August 12, 2018, 12:05:23 PM
1) Good idea but it should be restricted to certain sections only.
2) I prefer to offer 2 alternatives :
First one : ICO don't pay anything but the manager has to open a self-moderated topic and like the wall observer topic, all reports go to the manager and he is obliged to remove the spam or else the topic will get trashed.
Second option : ICOs have to pay a fee that goes to the forum mods to clean the spam out of the forums.

Point number 2, first alternative:
It will never happen. Some ICOs will pay the bumping service (reading the forum is around 50$) to bump their treads, I cant see how the manager can ever report the spam on own thread, more views, more clicks, more google researchs -> more money for bounty manager.

No self-moderated topic = trash can directly + OP ban.
No moderation to the self-moderated topic = trash can directly + OP ban + ICO prohibition on bitcointalk.
Dude, that is way too harsh. Mods are paid to do moderate, while the ICO thread starters aren't. theymos would never implement such a thing. Don't even bother recommending it. h&co has been annoying theymos everyday for years now and he got nothing(as in no reply).
755  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcointalk 10 BTC Donators - where are they now ? on: August 12, 2018, 11:11:48 AM
Dude, can you like explain a little on what happened to most of the donators? I am especially interested in knowing what happened to those who got their title removed and more importantly, what theymos actually did to MNW's bitcointalk access. I wish theymos were a little more active now-a-days.  Undecided

I am too lazy at the moment to go for witch hunting.  Tongue

756  Other / Meta / Re: 2 suggestions to eliminate bumping services & the spam being encouraged in Anns on: August 12, 2018, 10:51:28 AM
1) Make it so that posts from lower ranked members don't bump the thread to the top (ideally up to Member)
2) Get rid of the Announcement board completely and instead charge ICOs a fee to list here and once they do they get their own sub board in the Alt Coin section. If this happens then paid bumping is useless. Many of them would probably like having their own board and they could even be responsible for moderating it or mod it how they like.

ICOs should probably be paying a fee to list here anyway. They get a crazy amount of advertising for free and are probably causing 95% of the staff workload by all the spam and abuse that is happening and staff are left to run around like headless chickens trying to clean it all up. It's about time they have to start compensating for this. Money raised can either go to hiring more staff to combat spam or given to charity.

Thoughts or anyone have any other suggestions to combat this abuse?
I like the second idea a lot, similar to reddit sub-boards, but I doubt theymos to ever implement it, it would take a lot of work, and theymos IS swamped with things, as he has told several times. If ICOs have to pay money, I would suggest theymos to pay a little more to the current staff here. What they are paid != Work they do. They need to be compensated properly.

Nice idea @hilariousetc and I have my own suggestions since from the Biggining of my short carrier in the forum.

  • Merits shouldn't awarded to the post made on ANN threads.
  • Posts in the ANN threads should not counted as an activity.
  • Introduce earned Merit requirement for starting a thread in ANN section.( Most members wouldn't risk their reputation to just get few ICO tokens which can create out of thin air, so my believe is they will moderate the thread that he/she started)

Example - LoyceV's signature campaign with earned Merit requirement

1. Why not? If quality posts could be made there, why should merit not be allowed? Although it is a rarity for that to happen.

2. Not a bad idea, this could help in combating bots, the activity would only count for Full members and above.

3. Please don't. Let merit just be a rank requirement. As it is, not everybody is here for bounty hunting, but for business purposes as well.
757  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions for improving the forum on: August 12, 2018, 10:29:58 AM
I think what he is saying is that, he wants to hear suggestions to make the forum better, by somehow separating ranks and Bounties, as in ranks shouldn't be seen as a motivation to earn more Bounties.

758  Other / Meta / Re: is it possible that ideas/suggestions are collected on one pinned topic on: August 12, 2018, 09:59:02 AM
I've actually been thinking about doing something like this. I've made numerous suggestions to help improve the forum both publicly and  privately in the staff forum, but I don't think a single one has been commented on by theymos in years. Some may be bad ideas or ineffective or ultimately counter-productive that would never be implemented but I never know whether theymos thinks they're good or bad or whether I'm just wasting my time even pursuing them but they should at least be discussed. I would honestly rather him just call the ideas terrible at this point so I can move on with something else and stop wasting my time. Some things like requiring a merit achievement to become a Junior Member and removing signatures from lower ranks aren't disruptive to anyone's freedoms at all and would help greatly and both many staff and users seem to agree. Punishing badly run campaigns also needs to happen. In fact, the signature campaign guidelines thread was even signed off by theymos but he never ended up enforcing them despite several requests.

What I was thinking of is opening a thread where people can make suggestions in a short, concise sentence or two. Once all the suggestions have been made they're all put in another thread and users can vote on which ones they think are a good idea and the ones that get a vote are pushed up to the top and are then ordered by how popular they are. No need do down-vote things as the least popular ones will fall to the bottom. Thus we will be able to see what sort of suggestions are backed by the community or not. There's of course a chance theymos again won't take any notice at all but we really can't keep our heads in the sand for much longer as the forum is overtaken by one liner sig spammers, bots and farmers almost 100%.
Dude... I swear to lord,i was planning to create a thread compiling all of bitcointalk issues, so far this is what I have come up with :

- Very slow axcount recovery
- Horrible security features
- Account farming and shitposting bots.
- Modless off-topic board.
- No official rules, no guidelines for signature managers.
- Useless legendary rank. (It has no perks Angry)
- 24 hour cool down button for deleting posts being loopholed by using self moderated thread.
- Bots using spinbots or article spinners.
- Intangible new bitcointalk forum.

^Bitcointalk issues. I'll edit this to add more perhaps.
759  Other / Meta / Re: Is bitcointalk being flooded with bots? on: August 10, 2018, 10:49:05 PM
Thinks are much better now than in the past actually.
Yeah no. There are way too many bots, 100s of thousands of them, shitposting or spamming with promotions. Word on the street is that these bots get paid at least 1000$ per week for one ANN thread. And these are bots, no hardwork required.
Yes. And shitposters/account farmers which might as well be bots because they contribute little to nothing here. I've suggested a few things to try combat this. All new accounts have to be manually verified by a staff member before their posts show up. Removing signatures completely from lower ranks until you've got at least one merit or achieved Member status etc. A a captcha for your first post or two.
Please, captcha is a deal-breaker.

Also, since you're a staff member, do the staff actually have the time to manually verify thousands of accounts?
760  Other / Meta / Re: New type of off-topic Off Topic bots on: August 10, 2018, 10:13:04 PM
Poor guy who will get this job...
Being a mod in the off-topic section... kinda mission impossible...

What if we nuke all the topics and posts in the off-topic section, and start with tabula rasa... (because it's off topic, noone really needs those posts...)
If you don't have millions of shit topics, the new mod will at least have a chance to control the new posts...

EDIT:
Also, spammers would scream and shout if they lose the majority of their activity, by losing the posts in off-topic...
Actually moderating the off topic board would be much easier than we think. It'll take a few days, but the mod can just use a checkbox and select all the thrash posts in a thread and delete them, or just thrash the thread. Most people go there just to increase their activity, they only make shitposts there.

Also, who cares about the spammers bitching about their own shitposts getting deleted.
