481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building Cheap Miners : My "Secret" on: February 07, 2018, 10:58:17 PM

Found a good deal on ebay for some cpu miners..

2.1Kh/s ready to go for $300 at 420w cpu tdp -- There's like 100Kh/s worth of cpu miners available..

Trying to decide if I should tell you guys about it or pull the trigger myself  Undecided

So... things are looking pretty bleak in the crypto world.

BUT I did some quick math, though, and discovered I only need ~$1200 or so BTC value to cover my power costs (assuming alts fall at the same rate as BTC)... if it goes below that I'll have to shut off my CPU mining activities to stay above power cost. Although, I do not feel like it's going to get THAT bad it's nice to know =)

Bleak, normal, whatever.

Jesus, that's a lot of work. Why not just get a switched PDU?

Actually, I've got a local friend who I helped setup a jig and a bunch of the tools who does them for me - I've been pushing him to offer them up on the forums for other people who are interested, so hopefully he will at some point.

The big advantage over a traditional PDU (and you can't see them, but we have Tripplite and APS ones in the background), is that it also gives you fast watt level per port monitoring.  Cost-wise it means we can skip buying an ethernet enabled port-metering PDU (which are expensive), and instead use a bunch of these and cheap distribution PDU's.  Plus with the port-metered ones I've worked with are generally low resolution (like .1 amp) or have slow update rates (like once a minute) - and they also tend to use SNMP instead of JSON/HTTP, which is really much easier for us to work with.

What we've made instead is like a single distributed PDU - so we can monitor per outlet live all the device, and define more advanced rules.  I also use the TH16 as well, which is their switch that you can add a temperature sensor onto, and scatter them around to give us a realtime view of the temperatures in the building, plus can use these to automate all of the cooling.  For sub $100 you can completely automate your evap system - one TH16 for the dump pump on the evap cistern, one TH16 on the recirculating pump, one TH16 on the fan.  Then I can do rules that you wouldn't typically be able to easily do - like I can program the system to dump water when it goes above a certain temperature, so really like a partial dump as the city water will then cool down the remainder in the cistern.  Really it's pretty amazing what you can cobble together using these things.

It seems like you have a pretty substantial setup..

Have you looked at 415/240? You can push the savings by not having step down transformers and getting transmission voltage to 415/240 service. Then you can get 24kw (usable) tripplite PDUs for around $43.75/kw. This give you switched per outlet monitoring and you don't need a step down to 208/etc (415 -> neutral = 240v). The only issue is the ISC, you need to use in-line fuses to reduce ISC at the PDU. Still, you're only talking another $50/kw for wiring, 480 distribution panels, fuses and a custom transformer at the multi-mw level.

Planning 415 for my next build.

To make life easy, I took some pictures for everyone - it's going to vary depending on what kinds of cables you've got, but you get the idea:

https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/products/pdu/switched/

Switched PDU's are too expensive and usually is not for huge loads, 10a, 20a and 30a for so much money is not worth. Sanoff for $10 for 16a is cost benefit.

I guess I'm looking at it more long term. Being able to auto reboot down miners, send notifications when necessary to physically inspect certain miners for issues, optimize your miner without needing to stand near it to do so, and monitor 3 phase balances.. Ya, mining hardware changes, but since i've been around in 2011, mining as been a thing, and it appears it will continue being a thing. Might as well build decent facilities and minimize manpower requirements.

****I did create a new username because the last one was not the best and I could not change it. This is not my first post.****

As tax return season is coming quickly (for most people with typical jobs) my wife and I have decide to pull the trigger and run electricity to the shed in the backyard and start scaling our mining operation up.

We currently have a free 50amp breaker from a hot tub that was removed before purchasing the home. The house is set up for 200amps total base on the main switch I see on the Electrical Panel in the garage.

We are in the process of getting bids to run a sub panel to the shed for the electric. But before we have electricians come out and ask us questions that may be over our heads (like how many 220v and 110v would we need etc.) I figured I would ask for a rough idea on here. You advise will be just that.... advise for me to continue to brain storm on and have the final plan up hopefully by Feb. 1.

I would like to have 3 220v outlets that I would have 3 PDU plugged into for the miners so that if a given.

How many 110v outlets would be needed for fan (3-4 box fans for movement and 3 450 cfm vortex fans for heat exhaust--cool air will be from passive cooling because of the negative pressure.

Questions I wanna know before I ask someone in person:
1. If my panel is only 200amp, can we reduce any amps for the bedrooms to give more Amps for the shed?
2. Can we add a brand new 200amp box just dedicated for the shed but would be billed on the same electric bill monthly? (might be a eclectic company question)
3. Can I put the electrical wiring and the Ethernet wiring in the same trench or run them on the fence line to the shed to save from not digging? (Shed is approx. 170ft away from panel)

any possible ideas, or other things to think about please let me know. I don't want to spend $1000-$2000 just installing electric when there might be better ways

#1) It's 240V service, not 220V service. (That 20V difference is 600W on a 30A circuit).
#2) You need a 10/3 (10 awg 3 conductor) wire for each 30A circuit. This will cost you like $1/foot
#3) You'll need a conduit large enough to house 3 conductors. Another $1/foot.
#4) You'll need 3x 2 pole 30A breakers ($20ea)
#5) You'll need 3x L6-30R at the end of your conduit, each connected to a single conductor set. ($20ea for the housing and the outlet)
#6) From there you'll just need to find a PDU with a L6-30P that's capable of connecting to the L6-30R. There are a lot of these around with a variety of features from monitoring to switching. (Being able to remotely reboot your miners is a nice thing, but it'll cost you)

I would estimate materials cost for your build at: $800... From there it just depends on what you can get an electrician to do it for. Maybe you can run / bury the conduit with the cables in it (that'd be the costliest part of this, the rest of it could be done in an hour or 2). With these parts you'll end up with 90A of service with 72A usable (17.2kW) over 3x 30A (24A usable) lines.

From an installation perspective... You'll need to install the 2 pole breaker, insert 1 red conductor to one pole, insert 1 black conductor to the second pole, and green or uninsulated conductor to the grounding bar (WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS A NEUTRAL -- DON'T KILL YOURSELF THINKING THE GROUND AND NEUTRAL ARE THE SAME). Run the conductor through the buried conduit to your shed. connect the conduit to 3 junction boxes each housing it's own L6-30R. Connect black and red to their respective hots, and green or uninsulated conductor to the ground on the receptacle. Install your PDUs. Start mining, then switch your concern over to cooling with summer approaching Smiley

Here's my PDU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013HY9E2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=ASF0S1GFIHF5V&psc=1 -- But it does only have 2x 15A breakers which means you can only use only 12A on each breaker bank. There is a monitored version (cheaper) which has 2x 20A breakers, but doesn't give you remote reboot functionality.

If your house is anything like mine, you won't have to worry about voltage drop. I'm running 245V at my outlets. Down at my barn (maybe 150ft) there is zero voltage drop.

I can't believe monaco hasn't died a painful death yet.

Grow up man, you cry like a child. This coin has only 7 months from the beginning to now and it has a good price, stability, strong team and a very bright future.  So if you want to get rich from crypto you need patience, buy cheap coin with good projects, like Monaco, and then wait 1 or 2 year. So patience patience is the key.

That's the point. It is already up 4x from the ico price and now it is going for billions of market cap. App almost ready lets go moon

Billions of market cap based on what? failed delivery dates and more promises?

How much were these servers again?

They WERE 700 to 900... They are now close to 1500 and even an 63xx CPU is going for a premium thanks to someone we know.  Heck, they are even being advertised as miners on Ebay now! Sad

You can get broadwell chips with L4 cache. P6300 and P6200 both have the same 128MB L4 edram that others were talking about previously in this thread.

Note: there was a change with the edram/L4 in skylake. There are also skylake processors with iris pro, but I have no idea if it will work the same as the other chips.

One of my hashboards crashed at 600mhz running at 77C after about 8 hours. Hashboard came back after a restart. Moved both machines back down to 550mhz.

77C is NOT stable.

Now running 65/64/71, 62/64/65 at 550mhz with 95% fan. Stable so far.
492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone else having issues with their Antminer A3? on: January 28, 2018, 12:44:36 PM
I have been playing with all different clock levels and Hash Board #3 is consistently between 5 to 10 degrees hotter than the rest.. I assume it's because the chips and heat sinks are on the outside and lacking air flow. Suppose I open the thing, and reverse the hash board.. I can dremel some new holes if necessary... I have 700mhz running stable now cause I am in winter in Canada and my mining room is only 10C right now LOL.... temps are 74,64,82 So obviously airflow to outside boards are the problem, and I would assume board 3 was designed the wrong way fir air LOL just thoughts.. Also only running 57 ASICS on board 3 cause earlier problems... I like to live dangerously

Started playing around a little this AM myself. At default freq and 95% fan the 2 outside boards are the same temp for me. 76/69/77 & 75/68/76. They're just not getting the same amount of airflow as that center board. It might be more effective to take these things out of the case and get better airflow over all boards. Should be possible to get the temps down to reasonable levels at 600mhz.

I'm thinking, custom case to house the hashing boards.

494  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 2x Bitmain A3 W/ PSU $3500ea on: January 28, 2018, 10:05:14 AM
I have 2 bitmain A3 units I'm looking to part with for $3500 ea. All 3 hashboards are fully functional on both units. Both units were underclocked to keep temps <= 75c. One unit was clocked at 500mhz the other unit at 550mhz. Located in the mid-east. I can ship out monday EST TZ at the earliest.

Whatever outside temp is plus 5 or 10 degrees so on avg prob 50-75 f lately

You must have hit the bin lottery. My units at default freq would run at like 85-90C with 30F input.

just got mine hooked up

PCB temps 57, 57, 61

Chip temps 77, 79, 84

running at 525 AVG 729 gh/s

your temps are almost the exact same as mine at 668 w/ 927 ghs avg
(shown in this video)
https://youtu.be/WlWEc9CxpBg

What are your HW errors and chip temps when overclocking your A3?
On 668 a lot of hw errors 650 produced significantly less and still hashed higher - on my phone right now but I post my miner dash in that video

What's your intake temperature?

anyone know of a simple sound proof setup that doesn't require venting air outside?

I don't know, They're so loud I can hear it on the second floor from the basement. It's intolerable.

How many of you guys are having problems with the the A3 chains?

In one of my A3s two of the chains are not working and in the other A3 on chain isn't working either.  Huh

How hot are you allowing them to run?

Can I run 2 A3's on a 10-30R 30A 125/250V outlet ?. We use this for dryers, but thought of using this to mine as this is the only 220v that I can find in my home ? However I understand this is old setup, will it work fine with continuous load. Thanks.

I'm running 2 A3 and a L3+ on a 30A 240V circuit. Consumption is around 13A for all 3 devices. I could still do another 2 A3 and another L3+.

Awesome, Then I will go get an adapter Smiley. I also have a S9 and L3+, I will hook that up as well into this outlet. Thanks.

a 30A 240v circuit should be derated to 26A continuous load to be safe, so you have a total power draw of ~6.2kw on that circuit...thats good for like 4 A3's or 6 L3+

I'm at 12A with 2 A3 (undeclocked), 1 L3+ (overclocked) and a D-Link switch. I'm expecting to be able to do 4 A3 and 2 L3+ right at 24A (80% continuous).
