481  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anything I should know about 2x5770? on: August 24, 2011, 04:20:46 PM
Just ordered a 2nd 5770, I got one a few years ago, and they're the best watt->mHs (2.25) i could find.

A lot of mining info is spread out and I never know if certain info is current.

Anything I should expect?  Is crossfire needed or not?  What kind of temps should I be lookin out for?

Thanks much in advance.
All of what you ask is dependent on cooling, power supply and current setup.I believe a 5770 is rated at 108 watts each thus add about 150 watts for your current system and wattage for your current videocard might give you a ballpark figure.Crossfire shouldn't be required and actually gives you less rates.General rule for temps is keep it under 80 C or you could be looking for a new videocard in under 2 months when the fan is broken.[notice I didn't say if]
482  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI mining - updated Aug 23 with new miner versions on: August 23, 2011, 07:53:23 PM
Maybe it's just me, but I've updated 2 machines with the new client and it appears to be working fine using the OpenCL miner, but I don't see the Stale/Accepted numbers updating on the summary page and they're all just sitting at 0.

I also can't see the Stale and Accepted numbers but.....

On another note,I would also like to clearly state this gave me a good performance increase on both my Radeon 6950 and Radeon 5770 by 2 Mh a sec. for each.I highly recommend this download.I had more than .5 btc earlier on but don't have it anymore but will still send something later when I've mined enough as still good work.
483  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 650w 52a single rail PSU to run 3 GPUs? on: August 22, 2011, 11:09:39 PM
I also have a 650W but was thinking of adding a 5850 or 5870 to the 6950 glad it seems possible so I can sell my 5770 and unlock my 6950 to a 6970,hehe.

@Dalamchops

^^Not sure it was a good idea to deal business with anyone who has "Hackforums" in their sig, still good to know he can't be trusted.
485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Using on-board GPU & crossfired GPUs on: August 21, 2011, 07:03:31 PM
Why crossfire GPUs ? You get less performance when mining from what some have said using Crossfire thus separate and independent GPU mining is the way to go.

I don't see why it can't be done....I'd however expect the motherboard to be pulling more juice from the powersupply and thus would obviously have a higher thermal envelope to take into account.
486  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: only 315MHash/s with 950 core on 5870s on: August 21, 2011, 05:31:48 PM
i am running poclbm on 32it xp pro... i just realized that i didnt have any flags, but even with "-f 0 -v -w128" i only average 350mhash... but when i start mining it will start at 400+ per card and then lower to the 350... unfortunately temps that high are hard to avoid because the ambients recently have been 95f+... however, they are not downclocking because of heat, so idk what causes then to drop for 400 to 350 mhash

EDIT: also, what program do you use to let you get your memory down into the 300s? i have only found ones that let me get around 600
Apparently MSI afterburner or TRIXX would be the best application for Multi-GPU over and underclocking. What it starts out at isn't really important considering I have a 6950 that starts out @ 440 Mh/s but settles around 353-358.Most videocards also showcase in Celsius not Fahrenheit and CAN dynamicallly shutdown or have other protective features from overheat as they all have a threshold.

You never mentioned your driver variants either as perhaps you could have the 100% driver bug as well limiting performance under XP.Catalyst 11.7 or later is not recommended.....but the 11.6B's are the best for XP I find.

^^Right click on desktop-->Left click on Catalyst control center->Display Manager->Display Properties->"Desktop and Display Setup" You'll find multiple display options on the right to enable extended desktop.

your right my 2nd card shows no display on my monitor.

^That doesn't mean anything though, trust me.I only recently as of the last 2 weeks did a full agnostic w/ regards to XP and Multi-GPU mining. You will realize that the Catalayst 11.6b's are actually the best for XP right now w/SDK 2.5 !!!!

My motherboard also will not showcase on the second card simply because when doing a multi GPU solution it only recognizes the card in the main slot for a video signal....which I originally thought was a PSU issue. This is simply a detection issue by GUI miner.I would like to suggest the following.

1.Use driver sweeper to clean any ati files and do it twice up on reboot and use CCleaner to clean the registry on reboot twice.

2.Install Catalyst 11.6B for Windows XP 64 if possible and leave the latest SDK installed.

3.Download GUI miner yet again and see if it works.
489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: August 21, 2011, 05:00:15 AM
6 * 6950
1 * 5850
And one dozen of 5770/6770

We're running around 4.700 MHash/s right now, but we didn't received everything yet. We should probably reach around 8.000 MHash/s when we get our shipments next week.

So, who's pissing farther?  Grin

Look through youtube and see that there is a head wind lol......

What is your driver variant,OS and SDK installed ?

I don't think it is a hardware issue but simply a driver issue at this point.

alright I just did the dummy plug it shows but I cannot enable the display for it or am I supposed to reboot?

You're not suppose to "enable" the display but have "extended desktop" enabled in order for it to be active by the miner of your choosing. The videocard connected to your monitor is the only one that would be responsible for your monitor being showcasing video not those that have a dummy plug exclusively.

If it isn't showcasing then resistors might not be pushed snuggly inside the HDMI to VGA adapter......try again and then plug it back in.If it STILL does not showcase then uninstall the drivers and re-install to have them recognize both cards.
492  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: only 315MHash/s with 950 core on 5870s on: August 21, 2011, 04:16:33 AM
Temps are a bit high.......but try the flags -v or -v 2  in association with -w128 and F3 on the other cards not attached to your monitor.I would also like to mention trying to downclock the memory to 300 instead to get lower temps in order for higher clocks if possible. You can check other mining combinations here for a good comparison.

If you get everything to work I'd also suggest going here by using the modified files here using the appropriate intructions from each thread whether from Phat K or Diapolo.

The dummy plug solves all issues that you have just by placing the finished product on the videocards that you would like detected. If you have a HDMI to VGA plug you just require at least 3 resistors in order to complete the process. You can find out how to make a Multi-gpu setup here which includes 2 cards and beyond where a "dummy plug" should allow detection of said hardware.

Just found a website that states Radeon 5850s are under 140 Canadian.Don't forget to read my sig, lol.
495  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining at night only ? on: August 20, 2011, 03:17:03 AM
In the U.S. and Canada, generally only large commercial and industrial entities have time-of-use rates.

Because hardware costs remain the most significant cost of mining yet, even if a time-of-use rates were accessible, mining is still (at current levels) profitable during peak pricing (in most areas) so it wouldn't make economic sense to shut down during those times.

This was described here as well:

I think that a quick glimpse at the forum threads shows how much this can never be true in this particular community Smiley

If I didn't know most of us are either geek zealots or teenager skr1pt k33dz, I would almost bet we were all pregnant women on some hormonal rush!
That should come as no surprise, look at the world economy lol.

499  Bitcoin / Mining / Mining at night only ? on: August 19, 2011, 03:17:44 PM
I was wondering if anyone has ever kept a close eye on their electric rates here in the US for both day and night separately over a period of time..Is mining at night more profitable due to "off-peak" electric rates if they exist ?

Might be something else to consider than just downclocking videocard memory.

I'll throw in another .5 if it becomes more optimized for the 69xx architecture.
