1261  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New to Bitcoin need rig for college (don't pay electricity fee) on: July 20, 2014, 09:28:19 AM
If you have no roommates then I guess you could pick up an S3.

If you have roommates I would suggest dropping the whole idea until you get a feel of what your roommate is like.

For the time being, sell you system and buy Bitcoin with it right now.
1262  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New Company whose goal is to bring coin mining to the masses on: July 20, 2014, 09:23:47 AM
Why not sell snake oil in a back alley?

This will not convince more people to use Bitcoin, this will only convince a few people that they were scammed into buying something was a losing proposition.  1/2 the Bitcoins are already out in circulation.  What we need now is to teach people the benefits of the technology - not some get rich quick scheme.
1263  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: S1 or S3 miner, Dusty location? on: July 20, 2014, 09:15:52 AM
1) Buy pantyhose & lint roller from dollar store for $2
2) Cut off toes of pantyhose
3) Put toe piece over intake fan

You now have dust protection and tool to clean.

Pantyhose, S3?  Sheesh, this really is turning into miningpron.  You need to post pics in the Pics of your miner thread.

If you need a finer filter on a fan that has a higher flow rate, used fabric softener sheets work well.
1264  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is ASIC miners on: July 20, 2014, 09:13:21 AM
The English and non-technical version: ASICs in this context are CPUs designed solely for the purpose of mining SHA-256 cyrptos - the most popular one being Bitcoin.  Since the chip can only mine and do nothing else (doesn't produce video or audio output, doesn't have extra L2 cache, etc) it is 100x faster than a GPU - just like how a shovel is designed to move dirt while a mop is not.
1265  Economy / Digital goods / Re: WTS: AMD Radeon Gold Rewards (3 Games) on: July 19, 2014, 08:36:55 AM
I have 2 of these codes left.  Bumping for today.
1266  Other / Meta / Re: Congrats hilariosandco on: July 19, 2014, 08:28:08 AM
Ugh are you serious when the hell did this happen. So all you need to do to qualify these days is spam out of your ass.  Roll Eyes

Homeboy actually reported a lot of posts (accurately), so it's better to have him on staff now instead of just putting in tons of reports!

Now that is funny. Make someone staff to cut down on the quantity of their reports and subsequently your workload.

I looked at the list of staff and wondered what happened to JohnTheDong? Is he not staff anymore?

Oh, and congrats hilariosandco! You're a hardcore serial poster but I've never seen you post any crazy/mean shit like most of the people with that many posts.

John has a surgery and became JohnK Tongue

Congrats on the staff positionhilariosandco!  I thought about reporting more spammies but then I would be incriminated by all the trolling I do to the rude newbies who spam - sorry I just need to sink to their level with classic sarcasm  Cheesy
1267  Other / Meta / Re: How do you Hero members of this forum feel when you look newbies! on: July 19, 2014, 08:12:37 AM
I actually like helping them and frequently answer questions in the beginner area and suggest ways for them to help understand how cyrpto "works".  I do get fed up with I and other Hero or Senior members get yelled at and told we're lying or trying to keep mining out of the hands of new people.  That's when I refer them to buying a new Monarch  Grin
1268  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: July 19, 2014, 08:05:08 AM
MH17 crashed on the 17th of July.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence but it's a very strange one indeed.

It's a good thing they didn't use letters for flight referral because the ALXth of July would have been stranger  Shocked Huh
1269  Other / Off-topic / Re: To whomever stole my dads identity on: July 19, 2014, 08:03:32 AM
Dank, I've had 2 members of my family have their identity compromised and that was before Bitcoin even saw the light of blockchain.  It happens to people everyday. Although keeping a high profile on here and making "friends" may not help your dad's cause.

Either way he doesn't deserve it.
1270  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysia Airlines MH17 Crash: Boeing 777 Crashed in Ukraine Near Russian Border on: July 19, 2014, 07:30:07 AM
The dead woman's naked body was still lying inside the house, next to a bed.
More...http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/18/us-ukraine-crisis-bodies-idUSKBN0FN1JJ20140718

I don't get it. The passports were in pristine condition, yet the bodies naked?

If they're wearing loose clothing it will get ripped off when the body reaches terminal velocity around 250mph.  Things like shoes shouldn't come off though.  I haven't looked at the pictures yet, just saw the video of the crash site with the bodies there.  Those were partially clothed.
1271  Other / Off-topic / Re: Top 10 most Visited Cities in the World!!! on: July 19, 2014, 07:10:36 AM
6 of 10 cities are from asia Grin (Istanbul in europe, right? )
and Seoul made it, number 10.
do you have a full list? maybe 50 cities? i'm curious why there's no Tokyo (maybe someone want to visit Karpeles there Tongue )

Well when you consider India and China are 2/5ths of the world's population and many of those visitors are probably Chinese and Indians doing Pacific Rim business it makes sense. The only way for western countries to have a high visitor rate is to have a concentrated population density and travel hub.

Los Angeles County is probably higher than Kuala Lumpur, but just counting exits from LAX it's lower.
1272  Other / Off-topic / Re: This is what Israel did on our country today[FOR ADULTS] on: July 19, 2014, 07:06:36 AM
^^  Well said and yes I can imagine such terror but I doubt my limited imagination is close to the real situation.  I don't pick sides because it blinds my judgement at times.  All I can say is I have know doubt the Palestinian generations to come will be at very least have deep resentment.  They could very well be the next generation of what we call terrorists today.  This is going down a path of turmoil for Palestinians now and Israelis later I suspect.  I pray things get better and no more blood will be shed.
They are the devil in human form. If not worse, they are not any better than the Nazi soldiers.
I am sorry but you're wasting too much of my time, and you're really unworthy. I feel bad for you and I hope you get better, because you are sick. I truly mean that. I don't like to engage in conversations that include dumb-confident morons who think killing innocent kids is justifiable and okay.

You know, somebody offers a little bit of sympathy towards you but doesn't want to get down on their knees and cry with you and you insist they're "dumb-confident morons".   It's hard to garner any empathy for you or for your cause when you belittle others.  I'm a US taxpayer and would like to see the 3.7 billion revoked, but your arrogant and flippant preaching is borderline inflammatory hate speech.  Quoting Hitler, yeah real smooth.

You should apologize to counter or you just come off looking like a complete jackass.  I was willing to donate on your first post and after seeing this post I will find a better charity path.
1273  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: July 19, 2014, 06:28:35 AM
Put things in perspective - Malaysia airlines has had a relatively good safety record compared to many of the other international airlines.  Would you fly Aeroflot or Pakistan International Airlines?

Even carriers in big countries like Japan have incidents like this:

1274  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which of the 6 new states would you move to if given a choice? on: July 19, 2014, 06:06:08 AM
what does California offer that Florida doesn't.  oh i know, Inn-and-Out burgers.  name something else.  oh wait u can't

No gators, no mosquitoes, no humidity for the most part.  No tropical rainstorms and lightning.

Barring all that I would choose to move out of LA and over to someplace in FL.

Funny everybody wants to live in Silicon Valley, but the cost of living would just shoot up even higher.  The whole SV state would be like NY Upper East Side and land would be more expensive than anywhere on Earth.  Agricultural CA would be able to charge $10 per avocado!  Cheesy
1275  Other / Off-topic / Re: Vicks First Defence CURES COMMON COLD on: July 19, 2014, 06:00:54 AM
If you're already feeling a viral infection it has already entered your body's cells, not just your bloodstream or mucosal surfaces.  Unless you're rinsing your nose out with sulfuric acid you're not flushing out anything  Cheesy

Did it make you feel better, yes.  Did it stop a common cold, most likely not.
1276  Other / Off-topic / Re: Google will stop calling games 'free' when they offer in-app purchases on: July 19, 2014, 05:57:55 AM
Google has agreed to add protections around games' in-app purchases to ensure that children won't rack up unwanted charges on their parents' credit cards. The changes come at the request of the European Commission.

Yes, and no response for the same issue from Apple....  Embarrassed

Apple is just giving customers what they want... not. I have never seen Apple voluntarily do anything that might slice into their bottom line.  The company that promoted "think differently" now wants sheeple.

Remember the hidden videos that came out of Apple store employees knowingly lying to customers about virus and malware risks:
http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-store-confession-2011-2

I have my Kindles locked down for my kids and they have only managed to get one app on there (same app bypassed protection twice in a month) and Amazon was good about reversing charges.  Good move by Google.
1277  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which modern history politicians you respect most? on: July 19, 2014, 05:51:48 AM
who and why?

mine Mahatma Gandhi did not assume leader post to rule the country, i especially like Gandhi non violence disobedience protest against british colonization

While not exactly a politician yes I would agree his leadership role was far more exemplary than the likes of current politicians.  Easily gives FDR (who has a lot of baggage) and Churchill a run for their money.
1278  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dell Partners With Coinbase to Become the Largest Ecommerce Merchant to Accept B on: July 19, 2014, 05:49:28 AM
So Amazon must be thinking now do we go ahead and try to make our own digital coin (besides those silly Amazon app coins) or do we just go ahead and go straight for Bitcoin acceptance.  I wonder how low their merchant rates are from Visa/MC/Discover.  Saving 1-2% on their level of gross revenue would be enough to make them profitable  Cheesy
1279  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New 14nm miners??????? on: July 19, 2014, 04:45:10 AM
Moore's law is approaching it's end.  We won't keep seeing leaps in transistor reduction.  Switching to graphene or some other exotic manufacturing might be the future.

But for what seems an eternity in the Bitcoin world, the next 1-2 years will still see more efficient miners released.
Agreed.  Seriously doubt asic miniaturization will slow down within the next 18-24 months, then after that I suspect we will see a slew of optimization techniques that carry this trend on for another 6-12 months easy.  Of course, all of this is largely contingent upon the bitcoin price continuing it's upward trend.

I believe ALToids was saying the opposite of what you're saying.  CPUs have pretty much reached a wall.

ASICs for Bitcoin still have an efficient jump to 20nm, but 14nm will be cost prohibitive because all the foundries will have other orders.  This won't be for another year - which in Bitcoin terms is like 25 years from now.
Actually the jump to 14nm is more that just a cost problem.  A lot of redesign has to be done to gain the full benefits.   Probably much more than a year yet.

When producing a batch run of 100k chips, the 500K spent on 5 full time engineers is nothing compared to the $20 million needed for the run.  You are right that to optimize 14nm a LOT of work needs to be done, but most ASIC companies aren't really optimizing their current 20/28nm offerings.  That's why Bitfury was able to do so well on the efficiency end even with a higher node.
1280  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is average cost of electricity for miners? on: July 19, 2014, 04:33:49 AM
around 0.1 cent per KWH.

I think you mean 10 cents or $0.10 per KWH.  0.1 cent per KWH hour is essentially free and nobody has that - some people have access to small amounts of "free" power.

It's also helpful to state where you are getting that rate.
