Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins that might survive in the future?

I will go, on one hand, with altcoins that are traded in most exchanges. LTC, DOGE, ETH and XMR come to mind. At the very least, they will be useful to move money between exchanges without using BTC, and also their base markets are likely to be helpful.
On the other hand there are coins that are helpful without depending on BTC... IOTA and such.

I agree with fellow posters. Read the forum... I have learned most of the things I know from reading it and seeing a small video about what bitcoin is at the beggining in official bitcoin website.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: best upcoming ICO

There seem to be too much ICOs this days, and even though many coins are innovative and all, common sense tells us most of them will not go very far. I prefer to hold on to my BTC better than throwing it in an ICO right now.

Economy / Speculation / Re: Atomic chain swap between btc and ltc

LTC has a quite long tradition of being crypto-silver and this would make that nearer to reality. I hold quite a few LTC and would love it to have 25% Bitcoin value... or even will be comfortable with it surpassing BTC.
Atomic swap sounds great. Hope to see a lot of coins working on that in the future so it does not mind much which coin you hold.

Money should not be as important in our lives as it is. Many factors make it so important:
-We put too much trust in it, as if it could solve everything. It can solve some problems, but not all.
-We need to keep a certain status not to be embarrassed by people around us calling us "losers" or having pity on us for living humbly. We could live with much less, and probably be much happier, but the environment (tv, people around us etc) presses on to convince us that that is no life.

Economy / Speculation / Re: fluctuating btc price

The thing with segwit is that there was the bicoincash issue too. People did have some doubts, but also wanted to hold their BTC in order to get more BCC/BCH. In fact, there were huge movements in lending, some people offering 5% daily and more in polo because they wanted to hoard BTC to get BCH.

Well, Warren Buffet is a value investor. He invest in things that he thinks have a lot of value (companies that make valuable things and such).
Bitcoin is more like something that represents value, but does not have much value in itself. Bitcoin is money ... I read him (Buffet) say that the value in Bitcoin is in its ability to carry value (transfers, anonimity and all) but that did not justify its high price right now.

Come to think of it, a friend of mine recommended me IOTA around 3 weeks ago and I think it has gone up in value ever since. Where is the exchange where I could get some of it?

For me it has been a blessing in it's more pure sense, as it helps me get a living online. Thanks the Lord for it... lets see if we can keep away from greed and making mistakes with this wonderful and revolutionary coin.

So one has to send to new segwit addresses in order to use segwit? did not know anything about that.
If that is the case, it will surely happen slowly. Many people just will use their old-faithful address.

Economy / Economics / Re: Three reasons to invest in Bitcoin
|
on: August 24, 2017, 02:00:10 PM

Yes, these are very good reasons that I tend to use when I speak about bitcoin to others. Other reasons is that it is secure (you cannot fake Bitcoin, and even cash can be fake). People also tend to say "I do not trust some bits in a computer, I trust in cold hard cash" not realizing cash is based only in the trust people put on it. Just as Bitcoin.
Is as much money as any money and more.
