As a newcomer to altcoins (and relative newcomer to crypto currency I played with bitcoin a bit many years ago) I thought I'd provide some constructive feedback. I would say that I like what this coin is trying to do and how open people are in terms of whats happening (I don't have personal experience but from the comments others have made it sounds like not all coins are as open).
Welcome to the altcoin world and specifically the EverGreenCoin community. Your feedback is appreciated, noted, and your concerns will not be ignored but rather acted upon. Thank you for taking the time to express them.
My experience so far is that the all the useful information is hidden away in this forum thread and with over 1000 posts that's a lot of reading for a newcomer (I have looked through all posts and it took a few days). One of the things that came from this was that the project aims on making it easy for new people to altcoins to get involved (i.e. through things like the solar miner).
Public education and therefor acceptance of crypto is something I strive for everyday. Be it by evangelizing, writing articles, helping new comers, wed dev, coin dev, addressing communities, or dealing with exchanges and other services. The list goes on and on. Any of which can be a full time job itself. The neat thing about evolution, something I truely believe we are witness to in the financial world, it just happens and can not be stopped. I do try diligently and do my part to help make this evolution as painless as possible.
Firstly the website, whilst it looks good it would be good to have links to more information on there. For instance the difference between mining and staking, brief introduction to mining (although that's getting less relevant) and information about the various projects (solar miner, balloon flight, green energy). Personally I'd like it if there was a guide to the commands you can use with evergreencoind in headless mode as I'm running it on a headless Pi).
Some good write ups including current state of play on the projects may also help get more people involved (for instance I'm running evergreencoind on a Pi and have generated some commands to get particular bits of information out from it), I've also been doing some mining on a Pi3 as part of the suprnova pool. There's potential that some of what the solar miner project has done would have been useful to me in getting started and similarly some of my work might be useful to the project. I've also got a experience of High Altitude Balloons (the planned launch is how I heard of EGC initially) and have some thoughts about the planned launch (which I'll do in a separate post later).
Concerns have been raised about the website previously. I understand and do agree with them all. Work had begun but it is a task that is repeatedly pushed off my plate by more pressing issues, both personal and professional. I will honestly give this a higher precedence then it has been previously given and see that it is given back the attention it needs as soon as possible.
From looking through the myriad of things being used as communications mediums I'd suggest that whilst it's good to have various options they need to be used, from what I've seen lurking on IRC it averages one message a week and the subredit appears to have been untouched for a month. For IRC (as that tends to be my preferred medium) even some regular simple chatter can help a channel get started, if people see activity they'll join in. Unfortunately it takes effort to get these things started but once you get a decent number of people they can keep themselves going.
I like IRC also. Giving people the option of anonymity is nice. Plus ease of use across every web-enabled device makes it a good choice for us technical people. But, lets be honest. The general public in this day and age of visual stimulation cares not to stare at 'boring' lines of text from people that in large part are behind aliases. These people need to be informed via the social media they love. Remember the previously mentioned full time jobs? Social media is almost another.
I have made effort to keep the IRC active. Even if it is just price updates or a friendly, "have a nice weekend." As I am sure many of you know, this is a feast or famine scenerio hinged on the latest market price movements usually.
I'd also suggest that advertised services need to be regularly checked/tested, for instance there are two faucets linked from the front page and as far as I can tell neither can be used:
http://coin-faucet.com/EGC/ This shows the message
EverGreenCoinFaucet cannot be accessed via proxy. You or your ISP is using a proxy server. - I'm not behind any proxy (I've also tested this from a couple of servers using curl with the same message)
https://yobit.net/en/freecoins/ doesn't appear to list EGC on the list of coins
The same appears to be true of the various exchanges, as the community expands and gets more beginners they ideally need a simple and accurate view of what isn't working rather than having to trawl lots of forum posts.
I will address the proxy blocking on the official faucet today. I will also fill the yobit freecoins piggy bank. Thank you for bringing this to attention.
Well done if you've made it to the end, hopefully the above is useful. If I'm around I'm usually checking activity on the various IRC channels I watch, and I'm happy to help where I can.
Woo hoo! I made it!
Now I will get to work addressing these valid concerns of yours. Again, thanks for taking the time to express them!
