28981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Insurance against theft or loss of bitcoins on: January 19, 2013, 07:46:03 PM
insurance for coins.. i see alot of fraudulent claims happening

EG set up 2 addresses, send funds to yourself and claim the receiving address is a scammer (show a shady website you designed and the 2nd address listed on it and u want to claim a loss of income.)
EG put a load of coins in the address and then claim that you lost the private key due to a computer wipe/virus. (showing the windows directory time stamp (after using properties plus to change the info) to show its a recent install and u want to claim a loss of income.)
EG u set up 2 aliases on BTCJAM the second alias requests a loan. you then loan yourself the money and claim they did not repay. (showing stats, blah blah as proof. and you want to claim a theft)

followed by a scam thread where the insurer does not always pay out due to obvious false claims.
EG "Insurer A wont pay me, he thinks i falsified evidence to get free coins, what a scam"
EG "Insurer A asked for evidence which i dont have and wont pay out, what a scam"
EG "Insurer A wont pay me" (never subscribed to the service just want to call them a scam)

if you want to be a hoarder. dont trust second parties to look after your stash
here is a big secret to insurance. LOOK AFTER YOUR OWN MONEY and you never have to worry about insurance.

now instead of thinking up idea's how to stir the community pot of cash amungst itself. how about thinking up idea's to expand outside the community and get new legit businesses onboard. instead of new ways to sway money between peter and paul within the community.
28982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we change people's mentality about Bitcoin on: January 19, 2013, 03:18:23 AM
The site is mine but I admit I haven't done much housekeeping lately. If you'll tell me which links were broken, I'll update the listings.

although i was looking for a list of the 2000 PROPER BUSINESSES and not a hand full of 17's hobbycrafts. there are a few proper businesses listed such as a cupcake company. but still no clear sign that bitcoin is for regular use for proper businesses or customers.

i also clicked through a few links and found dead sites. i gave up looking once i seen a majority of them needed updating. but heres just a few to help you out (the link is the category and the standard text are business names.. obviously)
http://www.thebitcoinlist.com/dp_food/sundries/ - bit munchies dead
http://www.thebitcoinlist.com/dp_advertising/classifieds/ bitthreads, btc.isnan, kytrader, dead dead dead

now ignoring peoples online hobbyshops. we need a list of proper businesses selling proper products to help show bitcoins usefulness and acceptance to the non community members.

EG http://cupsandcakesbakery.com/ its an actual high quality designed website. with a real bricks and mortar business attached to it. it looks like someone from outside the community already had a business and seen bitcoin as a benefit to them. thats the kind of lists we need, businesses like that.

although i love the story of the alpaca socks thing. their website looks like a bland hobbyists site, more so then an established business making annual profit.http://www.grasshillalpacas.com/alpacaproductsforbitcoinoffer.html

if we want the non community to see bitcoin as not just a barter system for under 30yo hobbyists where a significant portion are silk road users. then 'the game' needs to be stepped up.

if scam artists can make great looking websites (cpc electronics) and the community opening up their own small webstores can only pull off a one page of bland design. then the outside world will not take bitcoin serious.

other posts in the thread used the term 'official site'. there is no official site. but there is and should definitely be a PROFESSIONAL site. and many of them.
28983  Economy / Services / Re: [Looking to Hire] BitInstant Client Services on: January 18, 2013, 01:43:07 AM
A great opportunity for many people.

The main question many people interested will have is:
1) can they be paid in bitcoin? or part payments of FIAT/Bitcoin?

2) what country/region do you prefer the recruits to live in?
28984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be at CES2013 (Official Thread) on: January 17, 2013, 02:56:32 PM
although BFL's PR has been completely shoddy.

i truly believe that micon is now just repeating himself posting the same video link multiple times which has now meandered into a never ending argument with no set goal to be achieved.

the simple point is BFL have many many failings. BFLJosh/inaba, a coder should not have been employed as a PR guy and BFL itself, should have worked out months ago how many chips they would receive in the first batch. and closed pre-orders once that quota of orders was reached. only to re open the pre-order payment page once they get a quota for their second batch.

and not to be spending money on google sponsored adverts or promising people equipment if they advertise the products, yet to be built, or estimated to be built by X date.

basically if they were promised 10k of chips in first batch they would have priced the cost of this. and set their pre-order pricing accordingly dependant on how many chips are required per product. all R&D is inclusive in the pre-order price.

thus no requirement to continually request funds because the cost of the pre-order pays for that chip amount, end product build and labour costs.  if they are proposing to make 1000* units in the first batch then they only need to accept 1000* pre-orders. before cutting off the payment page, locking in those people into batch 1.
(*numbers are not factual, just illustrative examples)

i advise them to close off their pre-order payment page until they have clear deadlines, clear production yields and clear costing prices for batch 2. and set the limits of available pre-orders. then closing off that months pre-order payment page once the limit is reached. to lock in customers to those deadlines.

I will just say this:

1 ACROSS = SARANGANI
2 DOWN = ...

now leave you all to get started
28986  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Archive] BFL trolling museum on: January 13, 2013, 11:40:19 PM
inaba once the announcement draft is wrote in full, can you then remove the condescending, insulting waffle. the non answers and sidestepping of actual information.

this should leave you with a nice 2 sentences left that are worthy of an announcement. and i hope its not an admission that you paid BTCFPGA to do the manufacturing of the chips lol
28987  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making Bitcoin usable in needy places on: January 12, 2013, 01:48:50 PM
taking africa as a great example.
watch a tv series called 'jungle gold' as a reference. even episode 1 gives you an idea of what some places are like.

there is alot of gold being mined in africa, and alot of roadblocks that villages have preventing people from passing unless they pay a tax/toll, their cars are checked for cash and if found the tax increases dramatically. they have machete's so its not anything like a toll booth in developed cities. its a pay or die thing.

now many gold miners fear once they have smelted their gold and sold it. moving the FIAT from the smelting village back to their own village is risky and can get them killed or robbed.

now having the gold sale done in bitcoin to their phone which is then keypad locked is atleast better security then a rucksack/shoulder bag full of money. whilst travelling.

28988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Deciding whether to use my coins or hoard them... on: January 11, 2013, 11:46:27 AM
the word ONLINE in the quote online wallet is the risky and hilarious part the person refers to.

brain wallet or paper wallet are better advised for hoarding. and only inputted into the satoshi client when its time to spend.
28989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be at CES2013 (Official Thread) on: January 11, 2013, 11:10:03 AM

BFL are not scammers.proven to be scammers beyond reasonable doubt They are just disorganized airheads that try to run a business. And got/get scammed by some Asian benefactors*).

i edited the quote above to sound more realistic to actual situation. but a great quote even in its original form.

i love studying human behaviour if you ever watch the TV series 'lie to me' you'll understand what i mean. That 2 minute interaction with josh on the video revealed alot.
the smile he does when handing over the quarter. that's not a smile of a smart individual who has whit and charm. that is the smile you do after this situation.

day one you get insulted but cant think of a witty reply. that night you think to yourself  i wish i had something smart to have said when that happens that sounds eloquent and beautiful. you plan it in your head. you start getting excited just thinking about using your carefully scripted reply, you imagine their reaction. You even dream about using it and you get fixated over the scripts beauty.

day two. the situation comes up when you get to use that script. you say it, and now you smile because you think you sound smart for the first time. that is the smile of victory. not charm. victorious that you can yet again avoid a proper question, and ontop make it sound smart.

its the same smile someone does when they have a date with a hott girl and plan before the date, something witty and funny to say to get the girl warming to you. and when said, you smile in victory and achievement.

now onto other things.
if only samsung went to the CES with a new gesture sensing technology TV's, they had a big 50" TV to show off.. but all that was showing was a blank screen. people question it the reply they get is: " we don't have any working TV's with this new technology, we have not tested a working finalised product. but here's a quarter, now go buy yourself a clue. "
even samsung customers would be hating samsung by now.

and at best the customers would say WTF you even doing here if you don't even have a working demo.
28990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The best Bitcoin cold storage? on: January 10, 2013, 07:52:47 PM
etch your key onto a small piece of metal and store the metal in a heat proof box.

28991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Multibit sent more BTC than I entered! on: January 09, 2013, 04:57:22 PM
your client will now have 2 addresses(technically always had). one with 20BTC and the other with 5BTC

imagine u received 13btc gold bar from someone and you put it into your left trouser(the client) pocket. it isnt split into satoshi gold dust within your trouser pocket to then send out exact amounts alone. it splits it up when you make a transaction. so the blockchain shows you removed the 13btc gold bar from your pocket. cut the 13btc gold bar so that 8 went to the destination and 5 went back to you, but in your right trouser pocket this time.

as long as your trousers(the client) shows the right amount you are fine. you could always send the 25btc (20 gold bar and 5 gold bar) to your main wallet address(left pocket) for it to show 25 in the one address. but you will get the same thing happening when you next do a transaction to third parties. which will just weigh you down and leave you lop sided (tiresome exercise) if you keep trying to put it all into one pocket all the time.
28992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we change people's mentality about Bitcoin on: January 09, 2013, 03:40:21 PM
to change peoples minds there needs to be a list of the so called 2000 bitcoin businesses out there, and not just the handful that keep getting passed around.

saying there is 2000 businesses and yet no one knowing the entire list is a problem. so the only thing that gets emphasised the most is the illegal activities as that the only thing people know about.

wordpress is getting mentioned more and more. but if a outsider asked 100 different bitcoin users what they can use it on. and the response they get is:

satoshi dice
silk road
wordpress
web hosting

they wont be satisfied to cash in.
If someone told me that i should stop using money and start using gold coins. knowing the security in gold as a commodity compared to FIAT. at first id say yes. but then when asking where can i use gold coins i was told 4 places around the world, id not be as inclined.
28993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I get a live USD/BTC price chart on my website? on: January 09, 2013, 02:59:32 PM
add this code to your page

<script language=javascript>
function startInterval()
{
    setInterval("UpdateChart();",60000);
    UpdateChart();
}

function UpdateChart()
{
    document.getElementById("Div1").innerHTML="<img src='http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/chart.png?width=600&height=90&m=mtgoxUSD&r=90&i=&c=0&s=&e=&Prev=&Next=&t=S&b=&a1=EMA&m1=14&a2=EMA&m2=60&x=0&i1=MACD&i2=&i3=&i4=&v=1&cv=1&ps=0&l=0&p=0&
'>";
}
</script>
<body onload="javascript:startInterval();">
<DIV ID="Div1"><img src="http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/chart.png?width=600&height=90&m=mtgoxUSD&r=90&i=&c=0&s=&e=&Prev=&Next=&t=S&b=&a1=EMA&m1=14&a2=EMA&m2=60&x=0&i1=MACD&i2=&i3=&i4=&v=1&cv=1&ps=0&l=0&p=0&
"></DIV>
</body>

the 60000 refers to 60 seconds before it updates (without havng the requirement to refresh the whole page). change it to what you want but dont be too selfish to try grabbing it every second or your abusing the bitcoincharts bandwidth
28994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Automatic Coin Mixing Idea on: January 09, 2013, 01:51:12 PM
A perfect centralized Tor-compatible web service already exists for hooking up these deals: IRC.

The right client could sit in there and make/accept automated requests to do coin swapping.

It doesn't even need to be part of the Satoshi client.  It could be a standalone program that takes two wallets as input: one full of coins and one virgin wallet, call them wallets A and B.

After spending 24 hours in IRC, all the coins should end up in Wallet B, in nice even granular chunks perfectly sized for swapping.

all in wallet B after 24 hours??

better that the first person /msg the IRC bot their preferred receiving wallet addresses and gets given address A to deposit to.
the second person /msg the IRC bot their preferred receiving wallet addresses and gets given B
once both wallets are full and have enough confirms, the funds are send to the respective parties..

and also there would be wallet C D for another swap and E F so that it can keep up with demand while people A B are waiting for confirms before receipt.

all the OP of this thread needs to do is make a IRC bot, not mess with the satoshi client
28995  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Conspiracy Theory and ASICs on: January 09, 2013, 12:50:19 PM
its not a government threat, much like travellers cheques are not a threat to the Mint

the Romney tax scandal was doomed to be a non starter. asking for $1mil in bitcoins.. bitinstant wont even accept more then $10,000 a year let alone allow a $1mill one off payment.

and how else was romney going to get his hands on $1mill of bitcoins in the time period given?

if you want a conspiracy theory.. then here is one. the bitcoin dollar market cap.. you actually think that there is $150mill of fiat floating around in mtgox/bitinstants/bitpay bank accounts to guarantee the value?

imagine if there was only $1mill and everyone receiving a prepaid debit card cashed out in one go...

imagine the consequence

"we are eagerly awaiting them, as are many of you, im sure"
28997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Automatic Coin Mixing Idea on: January 08, 2013, 11:08:38 PM
a far easier thing is to have a server set up with 2 addresses. like an escrow.

address one is displayed. someone inputs 1btc. the address then wont be shown because it contains funds.... instead

address two is displayed. someone inputs 1btc into address 2.  the address now wont be displayed.

the funds of address 2 get sent to the sender of address 1. and vice versa.. all within seconds.(after x confirms lol)

now address 1 is displayed again.

rinse and repeat.

swapping currency 1BTC at a time without risking making a back door in the client. or having to negotiate deals because its a fixed amount swap.

you could also set up a script that asks for the persons clean wallet address before displaying the payment address so that the funds end up in a clean wallet.

leaving them to send their dirty coins to the escrow.. and receive the other persons coins to the clean wallet address. of course more then 2 addresses will be used to cater to more people and a confirmations delay is of standard to avoid double spend scams.. but thats as simple as a mixing service needs to be.
28998  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: litecoin expansion group on: January 06, 2013, 02:47:19 PM
meeting is at 7PM (GMT) tonight

the IRC channel is ##litecoin-townhall

if yu don't have or wish to download an IRC program to access the town-hall chat then use this link for a web-based access to IRC
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=##litecoin-townhall

hope to see many litecoin enthusiasts there, and hope you all remain upbeat and not there just to cause abuse.
28999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / litecoin expansion group on: January 05, 2013, 04:24:08 PM
the name of the group has not been decided nor have the members. but the main thing is to work out what is needed to get litecoin expanded in both uses, population using it and merchant acceptance.

yes its a group more aimed at the community then what bitcoin foundation is. and yes its not going to be a sheep of the bitcoin foundation.

there are going to be IRC 'townhall' meetings where ANYONE can join in. and talk about the needs, desires, idea's to bring growth to litecoin.

here is some more details
http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,997.0.html

hope you all turn up (there will be chat rules to deter trolls/argumentative/abusive users so stay up beat and help expand litecoin)
29000  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper Blockchain? on: January 03, 2013, 11:32:06 AM
I suspect that after an "earth-level" EMP, bitcoins, gold, paper fiat will all become useless as currency.  People will quickly revert to trade in the things they need to survive: weapons, ammunition, fresh water, food, building supplies, etc.
