1961  Economy / Speculation / Re: "bitcoin goes up when stocks go down" on: February 19, 2016, 05:15:25 PM
I've heard this all over the forum, and it just doesn't seem to be true, according to the chart of DJIA vs Bitcoin. In fact, it might be the opposite.

This is an interesting thing. I fully expected bitcoin to develop and grow in a counter market fashion. Kinda the way gold prices behave. When the market is a mess investors flee to gold. But that is not what I see at all. In fact bitcoin often tracks world markets.

I have no idea why that would be?  Huh

Would you also expect investors to flood into Random_Shitcoin when markets tank? If not, why?
They do seem to do that with alt-coins? It's not what I do though.
Most of the money I have made in various markets has been made betting against markets. I divested before the last two tech crashes and the 2008 crash. However it hasn't always worked, I take a bath once and a while.
1962  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: YouTube star testing bitcoin micropayments for video on: February 19, 2016, 05:01:15 PM
I like the implementation! No BS, just scan, pay, then watch.
The cool thing is that I think something like this would even work on a TV. I would love a pay-per-view streaming service. No memberships or fuss, just pay and watch.

Good idea, but annoying that you have to use Coinbase specifically

1 Upload your video

Connect your free Coinbase bitcoin wallet to PopChest. Then, upload your video. With micropayments, you can charge as little as $0.10 per view.

I want to be paid directly to my personal wallet, not some data collecting infrastructure bullshit. I hope we can have LN soon so we can be paid directly to our wallets in a decentralized way.
Hmmm. yeah, not as good for the content producer. They really need to send it on to your wallet immediately. Perhaps this is to accommodate a fee of some kind?

1964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 Hours no no confirm on: February 19, 2016, 04:50:17 PM
For reference your bitcoin is never lost when it fails to confirm. In some cases you may need to cancel and resend, which is a hassle, but they are safe as long as you have the private key. (you and only you).
1965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arcade machine? on: February 19, 2016, 04:44:14 PM
Already been done, I remember a picture with an arcade machine running what probably was mame, and you were able to pay and play games on it, it had the street fighter cabinet, I will try to find the picture.

Edit: Anyway couldn't find that one but I have found this:

This is great and all, but wouldn't you have to wait a long time to start playing the games. This is where fiat or a credit card becomes very handy. Bitcoin just can't do all the things that fiat can and vise versa, thats why we need both in the world.

You can always accept 0 confirmations or wait for Lightning Network which will make instant payments like this pretty much possible so stuff like this could perfectly run under the Bitcoin ecosystem, it already does in casino online games.
Exactly. Why would you require confirmation for a quarter? If the Tx does turn out to be fake then the game shuts off and the operator is out $0.25 worth of game play. So what.
It would be a big hassle for the bad guy and all he would get is a few mins. of game play.

That is what credit cards do at McDonald's, for example. When you buy there the restaraunt has no idea if it is a fake transaction. They don't even check because it would take to long and cost too much. They just gamble that you would not commit credit fraud for a big mac.

1967  Economy / Speculation / Re: When are you selling your bitcoins? on: February 19, 2016, 04:29:17 PM
Never sold a bitcoin. I spend them and have been using them since 2010, but I see no sense in selling them and giving up a percentage of my wealth.
1968  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: DUALBITCOIN IS A SCAM on: February 19, 2016, 03:42:30 PM

1969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoins have Tax?? on: February 19, 2016, 02:59:35 PM
i hae never even considered taxes, man i have to think some things over.
Here is the good news if you are in the U.S.
The growth in value of your bitcoin is taxable under capitol gains tax. Just as if you bought a stock or anything that appreciates, when you sell or spend that item you must pay. Capitol gains varies but is often 10% (it may be zero depending on your tax bracket). That is way better than the 30-35% you probably give up for working your ass off. Cap-gains are a rich persons tax and so is much lower than you are used to paying.
1970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoins have Tax?? on: February 19, 2016, 02:47:23 PM
Haven't heard of it being taxed, that's because it is not being regulated by any government so it is safe to assume that it is not.
You need to talk to a lawyer man. It is NEVER safe to assume that. In fact, bitcoin is taxable in the U.S. and most every other place on Earth. "I didn't know?" is not a defense and you would own the tax, the penalties, the interest on the tax, and maybe some jail time.
There was never a time when BTC was not taxable in the U.S.
1971  Economy / Speculation / Re: wtf is going on?! on: February 19, 2016, 02:42:35 PM
Why do people always think someone somewhere knows the answer to this? You could just pull a work of fiction from your own rear end.
1972  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-02-18] How big banks are paying lip service to the blockchain on: February 18, 2016, 09:25:06 PM

You have a valid point about mintchip being a colossal failure, and I don't know exactly why that technology failed, but the banks technically already control the value, supply, and distribution, and already operate their network at a staggering cost. If anything, blockchain technology would reduce the cost associated with running the network and even provide a solid ledger to balance.

The only real obstacle I see for the banking system making use of Blockchain tech, is the revamping of their systems: why fix something that works and makes a ton of profit by the various loopholes available. If a new system is needed, it would be easier to create that optimal banking system outside of the already established bank's jurisdiction, and unleash it to the world hoping it catches on so the establishment can fail without having to pay any repercussions.

Clever move illuminati, clever indeed
I see what your saying and it all could happen that way. My hopeful thought is that because banks are not able to leverage the massive numbers of users that bitcoin has it should be much more expensive than the bitcoin network. As you point out, people are paying now and if they don't know the difference they may well pay for this also.
For me bitcoin is the only option because there is no justice, just us.
1973  Economy / Economics / Re: Economically speaking does anyone actually not want economic equality? on: February 18, 2016, 09:12:35 PM
I only care about economic fairness. That does not mean everyone is going to be equally rich or poor, rather that everyone has a chance to compete. The inequality we see now in America is, IMO, due to the efforts of entrenched power to keep the poor out out of investing. Poor people are supposed to work their asses off for pennies so that the investor class can make dollars from their labor.

Bitcoin is the first fair money I am aware of in history. Unlike the dollars you think you own, bitcoin is actually yours to do with as you please.

Ok thats a reasonable position for the right now maybe.

In reply to bitcoin being the first fair money, was physial gold not a fair money also?  Its useless the fact you have to store/hide it yes but if you have some gold it is yours to do with as you please or isn't it? gold has barriers to entry and so does bitcoin - although for bitcoin that will get easier but who knows maybe gov will crush us (doubt it).
Hmm. That's a good one bro! Gold may well be seen as fair money, and like BTC, anyone is free to try mining some. It's fungible, universal, and mostly like property. Well, until this happened.

1974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is "outdated", the blockchain is the "new Bitcoin" on: February 18, 2016, 09:04:39 PM
If you were a bank guy you may have spent the last two years laughing at bitcoin and talking about how dead it is. The idea that you were totally wrong and now must admit it is just too much. So... let's just call it the blockchain and maybe no one will notice.  Cheesy

In reality, bitcoin is the blockchain. Obviously there aren't even any "coins", just the blockchain.
1975  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump LOVES bitcoin full transparent encryption ! on: February 18, 2016, 08:59:09 PM
For clarification, here is the request. Obviously much more is being sought than access to a single cell phone.

And this from the same people who have regularly broken the law and violated our right to privacy. I am no longer willing to take our intelligence apparatus at their word. They have violated the public trust and should have their efforts resisted. All this is their own damn fault. It is their wrongdoing, as shown by Edward Snowden and others that destroyed the public's faith in law enforcement.

Now is the time for us to go dark.
1976  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is in trouble on: February 18, 2016, 08:48:30 PM
This is easy to solve guys. Just give the FBI a master encryption key, what could possibly go wrong? Or are you some kind of iPhone using terrorist?
1977  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we quit pretending people are Satoshi? on: February 18, 2016, 08:44:37 PM
I think Satoshi has said everything that needed to be said in the protocol.
1978  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-02-18] How big banks are paying lip service to the blockchain on: February 18, 2016, 08:41:10 PM
"blockchain technology"

I'm afraid of big companies like IBM creating such technology, as I fear it's a direct stab at Bitcoin's survival. If IBM creates a 'coin', other companies are more likely to get on board with their tokens than they would with Bitcoin. I could be completely wrong, but when crowd-controlled open-source goes up against proprietary closed-source, typically the corporations win in the end.
I disagree a bit. A bank blockchain coin would require the bank to operate all the machines at a staggering cost. Bitcoin provides incentives to enter a market and compete for coins beyond anyone's control. A bank coin is a coupon to be used at one place under the terms you are given. The value would be determined by the bank and would be a work of absolute fiction. The supply, the distribution, everything would be controlled by the bank.
I would not even consider using such a system. It has been tried by many now and I have not seen a single success. Ask the Canadian government how "mintchip" is doing.  Wink
1979  Economy / Goods / Re: What will you buy from India on: February 18, 2016, 06:43:22 PM
What about the low cost indian phone "Freedom 251"? I read this week some information about a very low cost under 5 dollars phone. But i don't know if its possible to buy it now, or if it will be avaible on following weeks. I think in this case could be higher the shipping cost than the phone.
These are cool! A phone that costs 10 times less than a month of phone service.
