1981  Economy / Economics / Re: Economically speaking does anyone actually not want economic equality? on: February 18, 2016, 06:39:55 PM
I only care about economic fairness. That does not mean everyone is going to be equally rich or poor, rather that everyone has a chance to compete. The inequality we see now in America is, IMO, due to the efforts of entrenched power to keep the poor out out of investing. Poor people are supposed to work their asses off for pennies so that the investor class can make dollars from their labor.

Bitcoin is the first fair money I am aware of in history. Unlike the dollars you think you own, bitcoin is actually yours to do with as you please.
1982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is in trouble on: February 18, 2016, 05:28:02 PM
Is this reliable info or just trololo?
I just don't understand why did they attack hospital this is very unethical and bad!
Maybe the hospital’s CEO, Allen Stefanek is involved somehow?
Hackers don't attack hospitals more likely corporations.. Huh

I would not dignify these people as "hackers". Maybe it's because I remember a time when hackers were heroes not vandals and thieves. We should not be at all surprised to see this. it's completely logical to ransom data and does not require some grand conspiracy. There may be millions of people who would do this for $17,000.
1983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is in trouble on: February 18, 2016, 04:30:27 PM
The real issue with this is the hospital itself funding the hacker. This way, more hackers get encourage of doing the same (with the expectation of getting what they want). Wrong move IMO and they should have tried to find the hacker instead but now his gone but there's no assurance that he won't do it again in some time soon...  Embarrassed
I agree with you man. As long as people pay a ransom then game logic shows that it will happen again. This is why the U.S. faces far less kidnapping than other nations. We do not pay, and in some cases it is illegal to pay a ransom. For example if DAESH used crypto-locker you could not pay them.
1984  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-02-18]Dutch Burger King Accepts Bitcoin on: February 18, 2016, 03:44:27 PM
Super cool! I should bring this to local franchise owners.
1985  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump LOVES bitcoin full transparent encryption ! on: February 18, 2016, 03:42:21 PM

If the FBI (NSA, etc.) does indeed want a General Backdoor (that would allow them to remotely unlock any iPhone at will for example), well then of course I would be strongly against that.  They have no business having such access just so they can go on fishing expeditions...  Or harass any opponents, real or imagined.

Also, if Apple gives ANYONE a key to the Backdoor, then they would give it to the Russians and the Chinese as well.  Apple would thereby eliminate some of their market.

I agree that the time comes when ordinary citizens ought consider getting educated in basic encryption (and using it), and the more variation the better.

*   *   *

In the case of Bitcoin, the more people protect themselves, and the more services offering some protection (bitmixer.io for example), the better.
Those are my thoughts and concerns also. I think advocates for breaking encryption have been very disingenuous and deliberately confusing about this. I keep hearing that this is about one phone and one piece of software, but ask them if you can have that one piece of software when they are done and see what happens.
What happens when China wants my phone? Only they can protect me from the terror that is freedom. They should get my phone also. And what about pedophiles? Am I one? How will you know until you can access all my phone calls and messages?
The governments assertion that I have no right to have a private conversation is ludicrous and unconstitutional. I actually saw someone on the news defending the government by noting that the constitution only protects your "papers" and since these are not on paper it's ok to steal them.

I just printed out my passwords on paper. How do you like me now?  Angry
1986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is in trouble on: February 18, 2016, 02:51:05 PM
Somebody is going to be in trouble, but not bitcoin. And when I see these claims of a government takeover or crackdown it is never accompanied by a method of how it will happen, or a legal argument for how such a thing would be lawful.

So How?

I guess it's just a made-up story that bitcoin users to panic and sell bitcoin that he had. I think that made the news it is someone who hates bitcoin
Oh no, it's quite real and a growing threat.

bitcoin's full transparent encryption

What is that supposed to be?
No idea? But I would resist forced decryption or "back dooring" software with all my might. If we loose encryption we loose everything.

"Trump argued vehemently that Apple should help investigators crack the phone’s encryption system"
F-ing Nazi.

Two things:

1)  I believe (could be wrong) that the FBI wants access to iPhones when there is a court order.  The iPhone in question was used by a San Bernardino terrorist.  Apparently (?) the FBI cannot get in...  With a court order, I have no problem with the FBI on that.  Apple should be allowed, however, to encrypt however they want.  Look at what happened to CISCO (losing the confidence of overseas customers) once they gave away their encryption keys to .gov.  Note that the FBI/Apple issue NOW is this case, not a BACKDOOR (allowing an easy automatic system for .gov to get in).
Unfortunately what they want would jeopardize every iPhone. There is no breaking just one phone, it's all or nothing.

Quote
2)  The time will be coming soon when each of us may have to (or want to) do some encryption of our own.  Different means of encryption would make it harder for our privacy to be invaded.
IMO, that time is here. I only buy unlocked phones then use strong encryption. Tools like surespot are awesome!
1988  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to convert BTC in real cash on: February 17, 2016, 06:55:25 PM
Bitcoin is real cash. Congratulations, your done!
Nope you're wrong, Bitcoin is money but it isn't a cash. Cuz according to Wikipedia, a cash is the physical form of money. Well you know that Bitcoin is a digital currency, so we can't call it a "cash" (moreover "real cash").
In that case you have something far better than "physical money".  Wink

To my mind cash is when you directly spend the store of wealth. Unlike credit cards or checks that represent the store of wealth, i.e. cash. In any case I see no need to spend money on fees in an effort to convert money into a less usable form. Why not save some money and just spend the bitcoin?
1989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoins have Tax?? on: February 17, 2016, 05:31:02 PM
In the US there is no question that you must pay capitol gains on the appreciation in value of your BTC. The triggering event is when you trade BTC for dollars or spend them. Others may try convincing you that BTC is somehow free money, but they are wrong and it is you that will go to jail.

It is the unalterable record of every bitcoin transaction in history. A "public ledger".
1994  Other / Off-topic / Re: When is it useful to borrow bitcoin? on: February 17, 2016, 03:40:43 PM
What I see here is that it is most useful when you have no intention of paying back the loan.  Embarrassed

1996  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-02-16] Wired: Why Wall Street Is Embracing the Blockchain on: February 16, 2016, 04:29:07 PM
I think this is definitely bitcoin related. Banks don't like to admit they are starting to surrender to bitcoin, so they talk about the blockchain.
1997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'll try to pay my dentist with BTC on: February 16, 2016, 02:59:10 PM
At the end of the month, I'll fly to Budapest for some heavy dental work, and I'm planning to pay with BTC. Has anyone ever paid his/her dentist with BTC? The dentist I'll see mostly has foreign patients traveling to Hungary because it's much cheaper, so BTC would be convenient for many of them. Any argument I could use to convince my dentist?

Why u dont exchange your money on dollars/euros?  Huh

I suppose you haven't noticed (please, pay more attention), but this board is about BTC. The people here do not want to change their BTC into any fiat currency. We want to use to use BTC everywhere and everyday, including when going to the dentist.
Amen. I don't do dollars if I can use BTC. Join us.  Wink
1998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers demand $3m bitcoin ransom from hospital to unlock vital files on: February 15, 2016, 08:21:06 PM
When one of those patients dies as a result the charge will change from stealing to reckless homicide. I doubt these guys understand what they are in for.  Undecided

They probably hacked a hospital because it had weaker security than a bank and they only had mediocre hacking skills. If their opsec skills match their hacking skills they will get caught. The FBI will be scouring every computer in that hospital for evidence, and it will probably get help from the CIA to track the movement of any bitcoins paid as ransom.
I also think they are in for it. However this is not going to involve the CIA. They work outside the US and only on national security. This is a criminal matter for the FBI.

Yeah he said he got in touch with Sitoshi himself to recover his bitcoins, guys. That's how you do it! This guy would do the impossible to achieve what he wants to!

Je-sus, What a load of crap. I knew M.S. was a shark, but that is a nutty lie.  Roll Eyes
