5121  Economy / Speculation / Re: in 8 years bitcoin didn't rise from $0 to $1000+ because of ETF... on: March 11, 2017, 03:25:02 PM
true that Smiley
people (usually newcomers) don't know this and you can't say this enough times compared to all the FUD that you hear against this.
they have to realize bitcoin is rising because of adoption and the fact that new people are investing in it and the old people invest more money every day and that simply creates a big demand causing the rise. and we are very far away from the final price when you can say it is no longer going to rise or it is harder to go higher and that price would be around 10K
5122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you save bitcoin for fun or for future purpose? on: March 11, 2017, 03:17:03 PM
anyone who saves bitcoin for fun or thinks bitcoin is for fun, certainly doesn't know what bitcoin is. it is more than valuable enough to be considered gold and more than easy to use to be considered a currency.
and then considering how it has been growing and has potential to grow even more, you should only store it for the future.
5123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Reason for current hike in bitcoin on: March 10, 2017, 04:27:19 PM
i read a comment on the wall observer topic that i liked which is explaining what happened and i agree with:
What happened is a standard counter play by market makers. To get rid of the volatility speculators, placing stop loss / profit take on both sides, you have to make sharp moves in both directions to trigger not only entering but also exiting stop loss orders!
5124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Asia on: March 10, 2017, 03:55:31 PM
I fail to understand what is the meaning of bitcoin is accepted in Asia. It is not any paper currency which needs to be accepted or something. It is an online currency and is accepted worldwide that as access to internet. Like particular sites accept bitcoin and those who have access to internet can also access those sites and thereby use bitcoin.

having access to something and being able to use it doesn't mean people are actually using it.
and it is true for bitcoin, it is open to everyone in the world and anyone can easily use it on their own. but as we can see it is not accepted in shops, by merchants or services in most places. but it is being used by many others too but that is just a small percentage right now.
5125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help me, please on: March 10, 2017, 03:47:10 PM
in English it is commonly called "fee" not commission.
if you don't want to share the TX ID with us that is fine, go to blockchain.info and paste the transaction ID in the search bar and look at the bottom right section and find a field called "Fee per byte" if in front of it says a number which is smaller than 200 then your transaction had a small fee and that is why it is stuck.
read more about fees here: https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

and here is what you can do: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1802212.0
5126  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC/CNY BTC/USD on: March 10, 2017, 03:37:22 PM
Sory, but can't find last news about it!
Why BTC/CNY now cheaper than BTC/USD?

it isn't really that cheap. you are converting CNY to USD and using a rather different price for CNY/USD pair that is why there is a difference.

also, there is always going to be some difference between prices of bitcoin in different currencies.

on top of that, as it was mentioned these Chinese exchanges are having some troubles these days (which i think was finished recently) that is why Chinese people are trading elsewhere. if you check the localbitcoins price for example you can see the CNY price for bitcoin is much higher now.
5127  Economy / Economics / Re: Tell me your predictions about Bitcoin on: March 10, 2017, 03:32:08 PM
When it comes to predictions of Bitcoin the ambiguity continues to scratch my head. Two years back I thought bitcoin would not be accepted so easily but at present situation is way lot different than what I thought. It is widely accepted everywhere, and almost millions of services, companies, goods can bought with bitcoins. My thinking suggests me "when many things can be bought with something then that something gains more importance" Here, our beloved BTC is now so important and what can be said about fans, they are plenty enough to hold it at the top of everything.

With so many trades going around the world I don't see any challenge bitcoin might face in the future. It is outrages to predict Bitcoin going into dark side of the moon! It will keep growing like it has already done and will get more attention of smart work. The problems related to it's digital form will be vanished with growing popularity as more and more people will get into it to solve complicated chain problems.

My final conclusion is, bitcoin will keep enjoying it's royalty long through decades and decades with priceless demand. I would love to imagine that.

 Smiley

well the adoption is not really millions of services, it is less than what you think but the good news is that it has been increasing day by day. more people find out about bitcoin and start using it and consequently more services and more merchants start accepting bitcoin as payment and that is one of the main reasons for the consistent rise.

and the price will always be based on supply and demand, this demand can only be from those who want to buy and hold bitcoin for 10 years.
5128  Economy / Speculation / Re: This massive price increase in seconds shows us something on: March 10, 2017, 03:19:12 PM
What it does it shows us, you ask?

Well, very simple: This shows how easy the price of bitcoin can be pumped if there is FOMO. So imagine that big pockets move small amounts of their portfolios into bitcoin. Even without a ETF, we would be in $10,000+ in DAYS with continued FOMO.

People forget the marketcap for bitcoin is tiny, and rises can look like massive green candles easily.

NO.
you are confusing market cap size with orderbook size.

this is the clear example that the exchanges and their orderbooks are too small to handle a moderate amount of sell/buy.

and no price can not go to $10,000 in days the same way it can not go to $100 in days because there is always resistances. there are lots of order triggers that will kick in and there are even more alerts that will lead to people act on them by depositing fiat/bitcoin and buy/sell respectively.
in the end it will be slowed down.
5129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is BU consensus at 75% and isn't it bad on: March 09, 2017, 05:43:30 PM
though any majority will lead to gaining the blockheight. the FIGHT(orphan risk) for blockheight is much more if the majority was say 51% rather than say 91%

the higher the % the less orphan risk and the better chance of a stable chain thats not orphaning all the time.

some deem 95% too high because its tough to get random people to near unanimously agree on anything
some deem 51% too low because its just increasing the orphan arguments (much like the scottish and EU referendums of slight majority, still arguing and wanting another referendum)

hence a middle ground of say 75% reduces orphan risks and arguments but more of an attainable agreement by a safer majority than say 51%

thanks for the explanation franky, i can understand the orphan risk and the relationship with the percentages when put it like that.

but what about risk of splitting the network into two chains.
this is what my question basically is, i don't know how right or off the mark i am though.
i say with 95% the remaining 5% can not really stay around for long and they either die or switch.
but with 75% the remaining 25% seems too big and can stick around and continue producing blocks
5130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is BU consensus at 75% and isn't it bad on: March 09, 2017, 05:34:14 PM
we would need to know what risks you are talking about.

i said in the last line of my post, the risk that i am talking about is the risk of splitting the network into two separate chains.

I think the philosophy behind is that if 75% of the miners agree and fork, the other 25% will follow rapidly and start mining on the majority chain because they'd be losing money by mining on the minority chain. IMO it's a little too low :/

is it your own understanding/guess or do you have a reference for that
i'll admit i haven't had time to go through it myself and do a proper research yet.
5131  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Did ViaBTC accelerator stop working? on: March 09, 2017, 04:36:11 PM
As worked for me today have used it a few times and had no problem I would check again to see if it nows working for you as it should be.

Im tracking how they work - can you show us ID of one from your transactions? If you have few successful transactions "pushed" via viabtc for sure one you can show us Wink thank you in advance!

since he didn't even read the topic and previous comments i suspect he was just posting random comments here and will never come back Wink

May i ask why are you tracking how they work?

anyways here is my bitcoin address 1LCCJR45uLk4Ge2PcrbuR9Y7uQuyQ9VCoQ i finally got it to work after reading the comments 2 days ago and pushed this transaction which was successfully accelerated: 85b8637dc08b7333e32b83616645d0c348cdb18b62f823fa6dcfbbc683dec61d
5132  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Day trading on: March 09, 2017, 04:32:32 PM
it can technically be profitable but it is always a hard thing to pull off successfully and you need to be good at it. this means you need to be able to predict the price and its movement and have solid plans for when to buy and when to sell. and in this process if you get emotional and distracted you will lose.
5133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transactions confirmation time on: March 09, 2017, 04:23:13 PM
it was because of how finding blocks work. it was not your fault or based on what your fee amount was.
your second transaction had way too much fee, and it was included in block 456460 time: 2017-03-09 13:45:04
but the previous block was a long time ago (block 456459) 2017-03-09 13:08:21 about 40 minutes and you made your transaction in that gap.

it was something like this: you made your translation on 13:15:00 and you had to wait until a block was found. and as soon as block 456460 was found at 13:45:04, your transaction was mined in it.
5134  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing money on bitcoin..! on: March 09, 2017, 04:15:33 PM
Investing money on bitcoin right now is very risks. As we could notice its quite expensive to invest or to buy bitcoin. Somehow, invest not all invest of what you can afford to lose because we could not predict the bitcoin price. But, we could also earn profit on bitcoin.

there is a certain amount of risk involved with investing in bitcoin as there is always a certain amount of risk involved with investing your money in anything else.

but i strongly disagree with saying bitcoin is "expensive right now" that is only true if you plan on selling your coin in less than a week. but if you look at the big picture you can easily realize that saying bitcoin is worth $1200, $1500 or even $2000 is stupidly cheap.
5135  Economy / Speculation / Re: If Price drops after ETF not approved, it's because people are Dumb on: March 09, 2017, 04:05:59 PM
The price shot up over a thousand months before most people even knew about the ETF. What makes you think it will make a difference?

If it's not approved, whales will dump and price will drop... but the panic sellers will send it further. Just HODL. $10k is not far away.

good catch. i was saying the same thing when first people were starting to talk about ETF and rise! the rise started when people were chasing their own tail and when it reached a high level everyone found out about ETF and price went a little higher.

now whales dumped when everyone were chasing their own tails and now that we are in the dip they are panic selling and chasing their own tail again and whales will start buying from them under-priced Cheesy
5136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why is BU consensus at 75% and isn't it bad on: March 09, 2017, 03:36:43 PM
{@MOD i am not sure if i should post it in technical discussion but feel free to move it there}

i have checked Segwit and the activation for it is at 95% and reading about it, everything makes sense to me about why that number was chosen and it seems like a perfect number from what i have read and my own conclusion.

but when i read about bitcoin unlimited, it is at 75% and it doesn't make sense to me why this number is this low.

so can anyone explain to me why this number which is much lower than the 95% majority, has been chosen.

also isn't it bad. meaning wouldn't the risk of splitting be much higher with 75% than it is with lets say 80%-90%-95%,...
5137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which one will you used? on: March 08, 2017, 05:53:06 PM
there are a lot of us demand shop that accepting bitcoin as payment, but from this forum i found out that there are some people unwilling to spend their bitcoin, so I want to asked If you found a shop that accepted bitcoin and fiat as payment, which one will you used?

if you are using bitcoin then maybe today 1 apple is 0.0008 btc , but tomorrow with 0.0008 btc you can buy 2 apples, but if no one used bitcoin for shopping then there won't be any shop that will adopting bitcoin anymore

so what will be you choice?

i will actually choose bitcoin as i have many times before. and i have never thought about the profit that i miss out on, the though obviously have crossed my mind but i never regret spending small amounts of bitcoin such as 0.01-0.02BTC
5138  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if bitcoin crash, could you put your money in another currency to be safe? on: March 08, 2017, 05:38:38 PM
this is the first time in my life i am hearing someone call investing in an altcoin a safe way of storing money to get away from crash!!!!

i think OP needs to seriously take a look at some charts. his beloved ETH has had drops so big he is going to have half his money if he starts getting involved with it. and not to mention other pump and dump coins that are high one day and go down to 1 satoshi the next.
5139  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The ETF situation is a definition of trading=gambling on: March 08, 2017, 05:30:42 PM
it depends on what you do with this information. we know there is ETF and we can guess the effect of it going either of two ways. if you are going to gamble now whether it is approved or rejected and act accordingly then it is gamble.
but if you are waiting to see the result first then act based on the actual result then it is not gamble it is logical trading Smiley
5140  Other / Off-topic / Re: Young people should go all in on bitcoin on: March 08, 2017, 05:25:20 PM
I really hope that all of the teenager would invest in bitcoin so they can use it in the future,
I really regret that I didn't know bitcoin earlier if only I knew it when I was a High School student maybe I already have a huge amount of money because of bitcoin.
Agreed, I too envy on other people who've been doing bitcoin since 2013 while I learned just last year because of my curiosity on deepweb. Well, I hope other kids would know what bitcoin since most kids know a lot of techie stuffs.

the younger generation are actually more willing to invest in bitcoin as they understand bitcoin better than older people who are either too busy to look it up or too ignorant to see what bitcoin is.
and always surveys about age of bitcoin users reflects this as the majority is around age of 18
