1142  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people trust in fiat money? on: July 07, 2013, 01:33:18 AM
People trust fiat because it is all we have ever known as an exchange medium.

Generally most never thought to question where their money comes from, or how the fractional reserve system even works. All we know is "go to work, get paid" is where money comes from.

Those that do however know the secrets of the FED and their global ponzi scheme, see a serious problem there...
1143  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be Cautious of ► ► ► LEALANA PHYSICAL SILVER LITECOINS! on: July 06, 2013, 11:11:42 PM
Do your research before sending a random troll on this forum all your personal information like your name and address. Something you should never do here, something that someone will probably use against you for any reason.

Anyone can have a silver or gold coin stamped with and design or logo, Smoothie just decided to start making them and selling his own name and design at an outrages mark up.

The casasicus Physical BitCoins, are not "original physical BTC" and these "lelena LTC coins" are not original either, because the developers of these coins did not make them, just some random user. Again, you can have your own physical cryptos made, out of any metal, hell make your own physical FTC if you want. You wont be paying as much as this guy wants.

+ You are paying for something with no guarantee your getting anything in return, so if you get scammed its your own damn fault, I have seen more elaborate set-ups from scammers, Do not give anyone on this forum your personal information!

Firstly, have actual proof of no-good if you are going to call out something as a real scam. I see someone making a product (that he has shown in picture to exist) and selling them for what he perceives to be a fair price. The market will decide if it is or is not.

Yes there are many services that stamp custom coins, and like many other industries price only goes down with volume created. Doing this yourself for only a couple coins would likely cost you well over what Smoothie is charging for his, and perhaps not everyone is a designer or has any interest in going the DIY route that you think is so simple and easy (have you actually tried this yourself to have a basis for your slander?). Creating custom coins means creating the tooling to stamp/cast them, and this is never cheap.

I would assume Smoothie isn't making a million of these things, just a limited run. This "outrageous markup" is likely due to this fact, and wanting to turn a profit for his effort as well. And unlike standard coin stamps, these must also be hand encoded with a private key and loaded for another layer of work to be done. So no, not everyone does this. Physical Bitcoin/Litecoins are not run-of-the-mill coins.

Everyone knows Satoshi himself never stamped the first physical "Bitcoin", this is a mute point to make. These are simple paper wallets that happen to look like fiat coins and are made of precious metal. They are novelty items mostly for people who think it is cool to have coin they can physically hold, and be a conversation piece. They can also be a way of long term cold storage (paper degrades over time), though other methods would be more feasible and much cheaper to do the same job.

Smoothie is deleting your posts because YOU are a troll with a newjack account posting unfounded BS all over his thread, and this one, for no real reason.

1145  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin’s Technocracy on: July 06, 2013, 04:35:00 PM
Quote
Bitcoin’s success ultimately depends on the miners’ collective ability and willingness to redistribute (spend) the bitcoin they earn by mining. Miners are somewhat oxymoronic in the sense that they serve as a “distributed” Central Bank. For example, Bitcoin would fail if every miner on the network refused to spend any bitcoin; the economy would essentially become “owned” and insulated by the miners. It would be the equivalent of the Federal Reserve printing bailout money but never delivering it to the banks.

http://btcbible.com/bitcoin-technocracy/

This quote is both ignorant and incorrect, as the author apparently thinks mining is free. Dan Roseman is talking out of his ass.

At this point mining is becoming a serious industry, it takes thousands of dollars and a lot of time to invest in system that provides a decent return. Miners cannot just hoard their coin forever because they have expenses in equipment, space, cooling, power, ect, to keep their operations running and need to cash out to do so.

I don't understand such a narrow and short term point of view either. Long term as Bitcoin and its network grows, the centralization of power is less, not more.

In actuality, miners are the core of spending economy and have the most incentive to use their coins as intended, hopefully the industry will find itself spending only in Bitcoin (and others) instead of USD as time goes along. Get equipment providers to start accepting Bitcoin payments from miners in need, property management companies they use for mining space to take rent in Bitcoin, power companies and/or green power dealing in Bitcoin, etc. This is how the real economy is born and moves Bitcoin away from a commodity mentality.

This one has been around for a while,

ASIC-Technologies - asic-technologies.com

So far untruthful out of the gate. Product image is blatantly a DSL modem motherboard of some kind

On their front page briefly:

1148  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BFL Ban Directs Back Here on: July 03, 2013, 02:25:09 PM
So apparently if you're a "Troll", the BFL forums redirect you here. LOL
BFL is spitting on this community, but yet, I've seen more people defend their shady business here than on their own website. They're pretty blind.

Your troll is obviously 1) Weak 2) Annoying. Stupid is tolerated here much more than there - that is all. Nothing more - nothing less.

Yes, calling out a blatant lie and excuse from BFL is a "troll", a "weak" and "annoying" one at that. And "stupid" to top it off.
I think you need to learn your place.

I got banned for the same reason. Apparently they didn't appreciate my pointing out the giant thread here about their CEO being a convicted mail fraudster...Got my refund though, never will they get my business again.

Was there a plan to have more than a single category?
1152  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Seeking a team to develop Bitcointalk 2.0 forums (apply within) on: July 03, 2013, 04:33:53 AM
Changing the domain name would be a pretty dumb move, People already know bitcointalk is the place to go to talk about bitcoins, As far as the forum software goes i think phpBB would be a nice choice, Really SMF is fine it just needs a new default skin/theme, The default blue theme looks unprofessional and tacky.

I just mentioned the above just because I already have them on tap and did some graphics already, and will just be let go when they expire otherwise, but whatever the domain choice I can provide a hosting solution for it. Though I don't think just making  a "bitcointalk2.org" would be appropriate or respectful either, another board should have a voice and feel of its own.

SMF is what the this board and the Litecoin forum are, it would make sense to make it a familiar platform. The stock templates are terrible but there are many more that are better. This is my SMF for BlockBurner as an example. Or I am sure a competent SMF themer could create something new for a few coin  Smiley

Looks clean but the background should be a darker color like gray or something, The bright white hurts my eyes.

Seems less piercing to me compared to here even (it is actually not a full white, but very light grey), but that can be changed easily. This was based on a theme called "Minimal". I will have another example to show after tonight that was further modified.
1153  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Auction] 150 Fast-Hash-80's ~90+ GH/s on: July 03, 2013, 04:24:02 AM
You have nothing. At all. Just pictures of some generic server case and that is it. Auctioning what you don't have is FRAUD

But I give you the opportunity to prove me wrong as I said I would.  I said I will be in your neck of the woods soon in Springfield, and that will be next week on my road trip down to South Carolina. I will come to your "shop" and check out what you have, and create a fair report on my findings in CoinCanary. PM me if you want to arrange a visit. If you do not take me up on this, I have to venture you are full of crap and a scammer. Ill be there probably around the 17th.

1155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitbill Patent Published - Encompasses Physical Bitcoins and Paper Wallets on: July 03, 2013, 02:58:46 AM
Hey folks. I'm glad to see some of the conversations that have been happening lately on this subject. I think it's extremely important to have these discussions regarding how bitcoin will interact with intellectual property law in the US and internationally, and what, if anything, can be done about it. We've all recently seen IP litigation that we do not like, and there is a growing consensus that US IP law needs to be updated to better suit modern innovation.

Though I know little about IP law, we registered our name as a trademark and filed a patent on the Bitbills production process on the advice of our lawyers and advisors. As far as we've been advised, it is standard process for a small company with a single flagship product to seek these kinds of protection.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to read the parts of our patent application that have been published [1]. There's a lot of debate going on about what it does and does not say, and the best way to fix that is to read it for yourself. I also strongly encourage you to read some of the other patents dealing with bitcoin products and innovations, of which there are hundreds [2]. Note that many of these have been in fact issued, which makes them more interesting than the applications. In fact I'm a bit bewildered at how much attention this particular application has gotten in light of the others, but I'm certainly glad that the community is beginning to have these discussions about bitcoin and IP law.

[1] http://portal.uspto.gov/pair/PublicPair
[2] http://www.google.com/patents?q=bitcoin

I think what this is more about is that this patent seems to be calming broad ownership to the entire concept of  cold "offline wallets", which is not only absurd, but sickening to those who believe all parts of Bitcoin should be free and open, not killed off by patent lawyers and greedy companies.

Can you explain what the intent of Bitbills is with this? It seemed from things I have read so far you would like anyone that creates a cold wallet product or service should have to license this technology from Bitbills, which is horse crap frankly.

Those links you provided do not provide anything useful, can you show something else?
1156  Economy / Economics / Re: How, Why and When the Bitcoin Model will Fail on: July 03, 2013, 02:49:47 AM
I think the missing part here is the fact there are more coins than just Bitcoin now.

Let's assume Litecoin takes it's place as the "shoppers" coin having much faster transaction times and 4x as many coins (all divisible by 8 decimals as well), and Bitcoin is so valuable and slow it is only used for large wealth transfers. This means there are a lot more coins in circulation than just 21 Million, you are assuming Bitcoin is the only coin there would be in the distant future. The individual coins may be capped at a certain amount, but there is no limit to how many currencies there can be. Who says each nation doesn't start their own blockchains, or even each corporation could have its own currency (though this concept would be awful in practice I think..). Just because Bitcoin itself was the grand-daddy of it all doesn't mean it will be around long enough to even reach 2140, or even a year from now. No one can predict the future in this because it has never been tried.

As far as the greedy and wealthy cornering a coin, the decentralized and open source nature of the protocol means that the commoners could easily revolt by deploying a new coin. Unlike the current model where the creation and distribution of capital is controlled by the wealthy elites making changing it very difficult, anyone has the tools to create a new blockchain and push for adoption. If anyone somehow managed to eat up all the Bitcoin, a new standard could be put in its place and make Bitcoin worthless and undercutting their wealth. Bitcoin can't solve the problem of human greed, but it does level the playing field. Wealthy Bitcoin elites may not be quickly if they get out of hand and Joe Everyman makes his own coin to use and stops accepting Bitcoin.

Certain aspects seem monopolized already, but that is only because these digital currencies are so young still. Bitcoin's market cap is around $1-1.5 Billion, which seems like nothing compared to the GDP of the world at $70 Trillion or so. Wealthy elitists can already buy and sell Bitcoin's entire market cap before lunch.

Even still, I don't feel it a good use of time to speculate on the distant future when there are plenty of problems with digital money to be solved today, or it will never last long enough to get to the later issues.

1157  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Seeking a team to develop Bitcointalk 2.0 forums (apply within) on: July 02, 2013, 11:55:49 PM
I think the real problem here is:

People are trying to turn Bitcointalk into something it is not.

This is obvious just looking at the Altcoin board. Many calls to break it up into sub forums were denied by the admins, and rightfully so because this isn't an altcoin forum, it is a forum about Bitcoin specifically and should remain as such. Altcoins need to move out of mom and dads basement.

When Bitcoin was the only digital currency at the start, the forum made sense. There was only one coin to mine, one to trade, one to talk about. But this is not the cas e anymore, there is way too much subject matter packed in where it doesn't really belong. Each section of this is simply overgrown, and needs new places to congregate and focus on distinct subjects, or at least diversify into more general coin forums to create smaller communities. Bitcointalk is "too big to fail" and needs to break up Smiley I in no way disrespect Bitcointalk or its operators with these thoughts, but the reality seems to be everyone in the crypto scene is trying to use Bitcointalk as a waystation for everything, and is now hindered by its own weight. Time to branch out and let Bitcointalk just be about Bitcoin itself again.

Bitcointalk.org either needs to evolve itself into something more broad, or face an exodus in the form of new communities branching out.

Though ad revenue and what is done with it can be a thorny subject, the simple matter is hosting isn't free and managing a large board can take a lot of time and effort to the point of being a part time job, I don't see harm in sharing a portion of the revenue as long as bills are paid and forum needs are taken care of first from those funds. But I think a proper donation bin should be enough for the community to support the board and keep it operating without pesky ads all over the place. In the case of BFL it became a big joke for them to still be advertised here a year late with their products with no admin interdiction. The nature of ads is bad to me anyway, if a maker of a product wants attention they should get involved with the community opposed to just paying for a little space and calling it a day.

Rule wise its pretty simple to me: act like an adult and things will be fine. Fail to do that, meet Mr. Banhammer. Another way to do this is not ban, but set up a forum jail as a punishment group for misbehaving, with certain jail time for each offense. 3 strikes and gone kind of thing? Just a thought. But it does seem like here people are allowed to get away with scamming, spamming, trolling, etc entirely too much, some areas of this place are a digital cesspool.

To that, I would be willing to donate the following resources to the project:

VPS hosting package

Graphical design for logos, theme modification, etc.

I could have an SMF installation up and running in about 20 minutes and would happily do this for the community. I would digress direction of this board and setup to the OP as head admin, myself functioning as a back-end admin and forum mod mostly (I have other projects on my plate to which I wouldn't want to be the lead on this). Whatever allocation of donation funds deemed appropriate for hosting costs would be going to me

I'm here to help any way I can, let me know. And if I get banned for this, well, obviously I can go make my own  Cheesy
1158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitbill Patent Published - Encompasses Physical Bitcoins and Paper Wallets on: July 02, 2013, 11:18:49 PM
“Considering that cold storage has been used in the open domain for almost as long as Bitcoin has existed, I would suspect this patent will not survive significant scrutiny, but rather serve the purpose of both enhancing Doug’s ability to raise capital and to serve as a barrier to entry for small players unable to afford a patent lawsuit.”

Let's help the patent office see this for the sweeping overreaching bullshit that it is. If I were not so busy I would be happy to do this myself, but someone experienced with the practices of law may be better suited. Any volunteers to organize and file the documents to protest the application?

http://www.ehow.com/how_7240683_protest-patent-application.html

Even if it gets filed, it won't matter. The Internet has a funny way of telling patents and control of ideas to jump off a cliff into a bed of rusty nails. All it would take is an open source cold wallet generator spread widely through equally patent/copyright crushing p2p technology like BitTorrent, and BitBills can only watch helplessly while their presumably paid-for system dies cold and alone. We could see 3D printers used to create offline hard wallets from freely distributed source files. Fighting it in court would only see them waste hundreds of thousands of dollars, plus a simple fact they can't sue the whole Internet. Patents as they exist are incompatible with the Internet age that has been proven time and again. This patent can't remove Bitcoin's ability to generate private keys, technically you would be violating such a broad bullshit patent by writing it down on a piece of paper...

Canary Alert

Just found this one on my weekly sweep for fresh mining scams

http://cashinbitcoins.com/400ghs-mining-rig-asic-bitcoin-miner-usb-litecoin-not-butterfly-labs-or-avalon.html

Appears to be selling KnC Mining equipment on eBay with a live listing (8 Bids..... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes), but not calling it KnC Mining gear

There is another listing that is obvioulsy related.

I would call this scammy on the basis that both listings are the same person but are under different eBay user accounts
