1221  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cloud Hashing on: June 12, 2013, 04:39:08 PM
What do you guys think of these guys?

https://www.cloudhashing.com

Offering 10Ghs starting in September. Is it in any way a good idea to jump on board? They claim a return of 50BTC for essentially 10BTC (to keep it easy) ... though if you pump the figures into coinish calc, it tells you tou will make about 2BTC profit over two years on its default mode. If you put in difficulty increases of 15% then its never.

Still... i'm tempted. Certainly not going to get an asic any time soon. Thoughts?

Someone talk me out of it. :-)

Don't do it!

Even if it started now, with the next difficulty estimate at 18.3 million, you'd only make 0.2748 a day from it. That is six months to get 50 BTC if the difficulty never goes up and it definitely will. I feel like they are seriously misleading you by making a prediction of 50 BTC. I wouldn't buy from them because of that alone.

In September the difficulty will probably be around 50 million and you'll make only about 0.1 bitcoin a day. You'll probably never make your investment back.

You are making an assumption that Bitcoin's value won't change in that time. There is a lot going on in the financial world right now, I think we're on the verge of a new push. Let's say Bitcoin is worth $500 or more each in 6 months, even making a shaving of a Bitcoin can still be worth serious money.

The miners ultimately set the price of Bitcoin, which only goes up the harder it gets to mine. The currently upward swing will look like nothing soon I agree. More power usage, more time, = more BTC value.

Yes there some large "ifs" there, but don't forget as difficulty goes up, the value of Bitcoin will as well. If all gold were on the surface it wouldn't be worth much, but since we have to dig further and further to get at it using more time and energy, it costs most for the miners, therefor costs more to buy as an investor. Bitcoin follows the mining analogy to a T.
1222  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New Mac Pro mining speculation on: June 12, 2013, 04:23:48 PM
GPU mining is over, though.  With all the ASIC's coming out, it'll be more or less useless.

Depends to what level, if the thing does say 1000MH/s it's not bad as long as your not paying for electricity, if you were at a company that has a few of them it's even better, OS X I've found is very easy to run a miner on and find it to be stable.

There is no way in hell it would ever reach that kind of performance...

It is stated these will feature nVidia graphics, which are not known for good hashing performance anyway even with CUDA.

Mac is probably one of the worst things you could use for mining purposes. At current difficulties you need dedicated rigs to even make it worth your while.
1223  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why BitCoin is about to explode again on: June 12, 2013, 04:08:53 PM
Here is another fresh reason we may see Bitcoin start a massive push again soon

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/japan-adopt-bail-ins-force-181947896.html

Japan is close to pulling a Cyprus and just stealing their "bail-in" money from account holders.

Cyprus is not the technical mecca that Japan is, can you imagine how fast Bitcoin could spread through that country?

Or Argentina where inflation is eating the Peso alive

Or Greece who is on the brink of government and social collapse

Or Slovenia needing a bailout soon problably

Or the PMI in the Eurozone showing massive contraction across the board against already fragile governments and financial systems

Or China who's massive overbuilding is beginning to contract, leading to a tank of the Yuan

Or America and its continued economic pumping at the hands of Bernake and the Bankster Squad, which is just being drained into the world's biggest casino (aka Wall Street) where it is gambled away recklessly, many predicting a massive stock market crash within the next 6 months

Or...

The whole world is in trouble. Massive, inescapable trouble.

Buckle in, this planet is about to get weird

Bitcoin may be the only direction to go as the old economic system begins to burn down around us.

1225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BlockBurner - Crucible FPGA Scrypt Miner - Going Legit on: June 11, 2013, 06:20:16 PM
nice1 Operatr, looking forward for more details.

 Cool

We have our own thoughts for what kinds of features and options to put into this, though I value community input, so-

What would your dream device include?
1226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone heard about these guys? on: June 11, 2013, 05:50:59 PM
They have some screenshots up now, but according to ELA they are pretty much all fabrications...

The shot of the casing is completely fabbed

CG miner screenshot has one definite square where it was manipulated, I imagine more of it was but resaves could make it hard to tell otherwise.

The last photo is not evident directly, but we can tell from this that A) Photoshop was definitely used and B) had been resaved so many times any bright spots of manipulation would be zeroed out

They are clearly scamming or are just completely incompetent, have already been caught lying, and with that childish super-rant I would not trust them any further than I could throw 'em.
1227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BlockBurner - Crucible FPGA Scrypt Miner - Going Legit on: June 11, 2013, 05:42:04 PM
I have sent off our legal paperwork today to form us as a real, legal business in Montana state, the details of which will be posted publicly (barring personal details of the members) as soon as I get the confirmation letter back.

We have had somewhat of a hold lately with meat-world issues for all of us personally, as well as taking this step before we proceed much farther with the FPGA design itself. We have developed a clear concept for the overall product design and the features we want to include in this time however.

As usual I can't say too much more at the moment, but for an idea, Crucible is not just a single device  Wink

1228  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: CoinCanary.org - Mining Database - All Known Vendors and Status on: June 11, 2013, 05:14:23 PM

Where did you find RCM-miners metatron?

What do you mean please?

Their website or the images?

I just found it doing a general web search for mining companies, which led me to the Bitcointalk thread as well

So many it is getting hard to keep track  Roll Eyes

Those little Jalepenos are so cute you just plug them right in and BOOM BTC

Sure the company has been plagued with all sorts of bad decisions, bad calls, bad planning and bad timing but the fact remains they jumpstarted the new generation of Asics mining. It was New technology in a New profitable industry and Greed got the best of most.

The Pre-orders were a bad idea, but maybe it was necessary? If people would have been patient they would have made more money and possibly the difficulty wouldn't have increased as much as it did. Perhaps the price would be much more than what it is now?

I'm sure they'll pull through the madness and get orders caught up hopefully before all the Bitcoins are generated, but at least they're finally starting to ship them out.  Roll Eyes

Are you kidding me?

They are the 3rd company to release an ASIC. How is that "jumpstarting the new generation of Asics mining". I sure hope this post is satire and I'm just not getting it.

More down to earth - The huge benefit to the BFL machines is the watts used. Should the BTC price go down substantially, they will still be relatively cheap to operate as the watts per Gh is very low relative to the competitors.

I think you are all missing the poing here as BFL has not shipped a damned thing aside a trickle of Jalepeno's of the older design. Not a single unit of the revised BitForce line has shipped, period

Why are you speculating on machines that are vaporware

Questioned the validity of this, and checked a bit.

This is the current BitForce 5 GH/s model, as per the BFL website:

Here are three recent posts indicating customers receiving their pre-orders that look much more like that instead of the old, flat Jalapeno design:

One
Two
Three

Vaporware is simply no longer applicable.

As I said, aside the older Jalepeno (using the newer casing because they completely screwed up and had to redesign them to handle the heat), nothing else has shipped at all. https://products.butterflylabs.com/ NONE of these have shipped in present configuration. The Jalepeno and Little SC look the same but are in fact different products. So yes, until we see some of those units all of that is vaporware that people have paid for and are far behind on their shipping promises. Not a single unit of the new line has been demonstrated or seen.

RCM-Miners:

Their product picture is a CoolerMaster Xport 351 with RCM 'shopped on it, no?

Nice catches Metatron  Smiley I will add them to the OP

These people seem to forget they are trying to scam a bunch of tech professionals and enthusiasts that know better...

Aww poor canaries
Looking forward to a one stop shop for hardware updates

Yeah now the world is more humane, we only send miners down in the mines.

The first ones to die are usually called "preorder suckers" for some arcane reason. But hey, no more dead birds! Smiley

I suppose the pre-order crowd are a good analog for canaries  Grin They just die financially
1231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BITBAR Asic PROJECT "included inside each BitBar USB wallet drive" on: June 10, 2013, 05:18:37 PM
i am going to get some units in the hands of some members here at BitcoinTalk !! Also sending out to owners of Websites that support crypto to provide much needed proof so people can start getting excited without doubt. I remember the first time i seen a working ASIC miner how exited i got. I want that for my customers. I am a tech geek and love new devices and the rush of excitement is truly amazing. Also gives you something to look forward to. I promise it wont be like ButterflyLAbs Crap waiting game. They have set crypto development back so much and cause so much drama in the crypto industry it pisses me off

Well I'm convinced where do I send my money without a second thought?
1232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Scrypt (Litecoin) ASIC Prototype on: June 10, 2013, 05:14:53 PM
Well, I didn't expect that kind of shit storm but I can understand your mistrust.
Only three people successfully working on an ASIC doesn't sound very authentic especially considering the costs you have in mind but I think this widely overestimated. I was suprised too that this worked out that well in only one year, but I really don't know what went wrong at BFL and friends. We largely used existing hardware and just assembled it in the right way. Some parts we had to design our selves of cause but this was and still is not a million dollar effort.
And we are talking about "ASIC proof" scrypt algortihm here. In my oppinion the memory related design made it even more easy to build an ASIC because you don't need a extreamly high specialized computing section but the right memory and this is what we've been working on.

Maybe this is not a ASIC in the sence that we placed every single transistor on our own but we assembled something that is definitely specialized on scrypt mining with useable success, so this can't be called a FGPA either.

I agree all this looks quite unorgnized at the moment. And you are right that we didn't prepare a bullet proof launch of all this but please give us some time to provide enough information before labelling us as scammers.
Nobody forces you to donate right away if you have doubts. Just wait before complaining about somethin you have no conception of yet.

My bullshit detector is on fire

You are clueless about both mining hardware and business. So you "launch" half cocked with zero actual information or proof claiming a Scrypt ASIC, and then claim it isn't really an ASIC, nor an FPGA (Huh??). And you then have the balls to ask the community for funding on some flimsy premise? You have no website or social connections, and no credibility whatsoever behind you.

You need to provide something real right now or please just stop it. There are quite enough scammer/wannabes on these boards.

1234  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Open letter to Theymos regarding Butterfly Labs (BFL) on: June 10, 2013, 04:00:23 PM

Here, let me translate your whole post and summarize for people:

"BBbbbut but but I mean, but umm, but I mean this, but wait no, but I mean yes but no but yes but no..."

That's basically you're entire post in a nutshell.  I've challenged you to find a single instance where we've lied or been deceitful.  You waffled, hemmed and hawed, I challenged you again and this is what you come up with.  "But what I really meant was..."

You lied, face it.  You made a statement that you knew to be untrue at the time, I told you to prove it, you failed to do so, and now you're changing your tune.

Inaba I personally wish you well. I really do. I believe I am at this point wasting my time trying to show the errors of your ways. If you can not understand why others are upset with you then I can't help you. I understand you better than you would think. I can read people very well and 99% of the time I can peg some one on the spot. I do read body language and most of the times I find its useful in many applications. Sales people understand what I am saying. Cops also are great at it and get a feeling for this. Poker players are classic experts as well. I also understand how public relations work and the strategies of showing you're vulnerable to gain sympathy and the use of anger to deflect and mislead topics. To ask the same questions to ware down your adversaries and make them lose patience and show anger to gain sympathy from other. I don't play those games. I understand those games. You are not that good and you will be cut loose if this turns bad. You do know that.

Naturally you will not agree with what I said but that does not change the fact that it is written here and you have read it. Thats all I need, your attention. I am done and I now will sit back and follow your progress. I will put my 2 cents in but no more cat and mouse games.

I also don't want to put out an image that you are the victim here being harassed by trolls to have you look good on these forums. You know your a liar. I know your a liar and others that can figure this out also know. The ones that don't see it, well they will find out later and hopefully learn from their mistakes. After all its all mistakes no deceit.

Good luck and thank you for this learning experience.

Sorry man, the only one lying here is you.  I've demonstrated that you have lied, pointed it out, provided links, etc...  I have asked you to demonstrate where I have lied and you have yet to produce any proof.  I've produced proof, you haven't... that would seem to be pretty conclusive who the untrustworthy/liar is, I'd take a long, hard look in the mirror at this point, if I were you.

YOU have yet to produce any proof that BFL actually intends to deliver on it's promises. Why don't you stop chewing members of this forum for pointing out your failings as a person and as company and give us something real instead of dicking us around. The burden of proof is on you, not us. Companies that deliver what they promise don't have the backlash you do, go ask ASICMiner how they are doing customer wise. There doesn't seem to be any problems there because they actually did what they said they would.

You are a liar, and just an asshole otherwise.
1235  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: CoinCanary.org - Mining Database - All Known Vendors and Status on: June 10, 2013, 03:34:35 PM
You get the email this morning from asic-technologies.com?  They really got their act together.  I hope people are doing their research.  I haven't heard anything new about them really, except what they say.  Any updates?  Operatr is probly extremely busy at the moment, but if anyone else notice anything useful I think it would be good to post it here.

I haven't received anything myself from them in pm or email.

They have posted some new pictures, however with the error analysis of the pictures the screenie of the case is definitely manipulated, nothing that looks like that is on scan.co.uk. Why would there be audio ports on an ASIC miner?

A little manipulation was done on the cgminer screenshot. There is clearly a square on it that has a higher error rate than the rest.

Hard to tell with the last one, heavy rainbow suggests it definitely went through Photoshop and was resaved several times to the point any manipulations are drowned out by error level reduction. If that grey thing in the middle of the monitors is the unit, it looks different than the first picture of the Photoshopped case. If the vent is on the side of it, any wires should then be coming out of the top, which I don't see anywhere. What else is odd is just the angle of that grey box, from a top down shot the top of it should be visible? It proves nothing otherwise, as the screenshot is too small to make out what is on the cgminer screen, it could be anything. The grey unit in the middle may not be anything related.

With ELA you cannot tell directly sometimes of manipulation, but these shots are not on the level. The only way to prove the last screenshot is 100% real is to see an unadulterated full size camera grab from the Blackberry it was taken with (in the metadata).

Also given BFL could barely get 5 GHash out of a unit that size without serious heat problems, how the hell are they pulling nearly 10,000 GHash out of something this size?

Given they have already been caught lying with that DSL modem picture, and nice little rant on the front page (see OP for these), zero reason to trust them so far. I still heavily advise against giving them any funds. Something else of note, there is no way to contact them from their website.

Ill post a proper image analysis later on the real CoinCanary website Smiley

1237  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Group Buy - 12 KNCMINER Jupiter's 4.2TH Early Pre Order on: June 10, 2013, 06:25:04 AM
Wasn't KNC originally planned to debut an FPGA product line, to demonstrate their ability to quickly produce a design, which was then scrapped? So they have absolutely no demonstrated production ability? And now they're just another faith-based pre-order money ASIC company?

Or am I incorrect?

They started with a Bitcoin FPGA, way late to the table, and scrapped it in favor of a non-existent ASIC

Why are you doing a group buy for a product that does not exist?

I understand John K can be trusted and no funds will go anywhere without more, but still...

He was kidding. But you have two usernames? And how is canary related to mining?

No, I'm just me Smiley

Canaries were used in the days before better air quality testing gear was available to miners. Much of the time there would be toxic gases released with digging, most notably carbon monoxide that is colorless and odorless (poisonous to humans). A canary was put in the mine ahead of the miners themselves, and if the canary died, they would know it was likely not safe for them either. This practice is no longer done in the civilized world of course, but long ago it was the only way to detect deadly gasses before the advent of mechanical air sensors.

The concept here is similar, much like the analog of real gold mining to digital Bitcoin mining, the scope is to alert miners to the information and dangers surrounding these many startups/scams before people get suckered.

I see that you like the idea behind my name...

And both of you are in the hardware game! Schizophrenia same person Huh

Uh oh.  I saw this coming..  I thought you may have felt co-opted by this name choice.  Smiley

Well to be fair, it is mining concept older than anyone on here.

Canary I do apologize if you feel slighted at all by that, you should know I did not base it off of your username (this is the first time I have seen it Smiley).
