The ASIC hash rate war is proving to be a drama. What I see happening is the ASIC vendors released their units with two much hash power, this will cost them sales and profits in the near future with BFL being the worst offender.
Instead of introducing the TH/s to the network spread around to thousands of miners in small chunks, they told everyone about the Minirig. People with deep pockets have ordered hundreds so when they finally ship, the TH/s will explode overnight. This will drive the smaller miners away from BTC and buying BFL product as the smaller units wont be able to compete, and the average miner wont be able to afford competitive rigs any longer, the gap is too large. So the mining will be concentrated into a smaller and smaller group of players with deep pockets. They will be able to dominate at a far cheaper cost than otherwise would have been possible for two reasons. Firstly BFL sold the Minirig too cheap, per GH/s compared to all other products on the market including their own lesser models. Secondly the instant concentration of hashing power will reduce the other miners revenue far more abruptly than if the whole net rose gradually, that will cause shock and awe not unlike a market crash.
Of course BFL are not alone, the Avalon 66GH/s unit was too big, they should have started with a 22 GH/s unit or smaller, and shipped 3 times as many of them.
Kncminer are talking about a 175GH/s an 350GH/s which are once again too much hash power.
Up until now everyone added hashing power in small increments adding a GPU or two, the crazies built racks of the things, but overall there were no big jumps. That's all about to change and I think for the worse. BTC was all about decentralization, these unnecessarily large ASIC sizes that are coming, screws up that concept.
However BFL has yet to ship a damn thing from the revised BitForce line. The Jalepenos are old news, and it took over a year for them just to deliver that much. I feel the BFL rigs are not of any concern until someone actually sees one in the wild, which at present rate will be sometime in 2014... KnCMiner is bull, as Phinneaus Gage has been happy to point out the many holes in them so far. They have only created an FPGA miner prototype (which looks more like 4 FPGA boards loosely bolted together with small corner pieces of acrylic plastic...not what I would call a real prototype), which was then dumped because FPGA won't do anything against ASICs. Now they claim to be developing that, but have so far produced absolutely nothing. I have no faith the will as they seem just as disorganized and/or scammy as the rest. The network will even out some, as the big players jump into ASIC the FPGA and GPU miners will either shift in or go to Litecoin or other coins. I don't think the jump will be as bad or as fast as most predict, but it will be increasing a lot as ASICs are rolled out by other companies like ASICMiner and Avalon who have actually delivered what they promised. But even as mining gets harder, the other edge of that sword is that Bitcoin will continue to increase in value because of it. Even mining a small slice of a coin can still mean big money in the future. It's going to be very hard soon to mine anything.
how come? someone announce ASIC-scrypt miners? Scrypt is just now hitting the FPGA stage, as I know Scrypt is not as apt on ASIC hardware either, it will be a long time before we see Gen 4 hardware for Scrypt coins.

I have to say that spike coming out of Kansas is really strange. I remember it being debunked in another thread about it though it is still too odd to ignore. I've searched myself for other organizations that are running hashfarms there and have found none. Such a spike can only be created by a large farm...
Updated to include BitFury and some updates to Butterfly Labs latest crimes against humanity

I honestly don't see where the concern is: http://www.asic-technologies.com/aboutus/We deiced to start ordering more parts. Can one person here prove to me that they ARE NOT deiced to start ordering more parts? My only regret is that I didn't get an early queue position, assuming they're queuing. If there is no queue, then yes, they are a scam. If they are offering up queuing positions, then I'm on the fence. Here is some information about us and the story behind asic-technologies.com I love their story. So open and warm and...wait for it...full of bullshit. This image was taken down off of their front page, but they don't seem to understand that nothing simply disappears on the Net

how is the status of the FPGA? KnC is also builing one and is set to have it ready in the summer
Progress as of late has been a little slow with the Dev team being busy with real world stuff, like wives and jobs But we have entered the most complex design element of the FPGA which will take a while to complete. I myself am just getting us legalized in the US to do business. With a few other things in the works I don't mind a bit of a lull for the moment to catch up a bit. I feel like a broken record in saying "updates soon", unfortunately we're just not far along enough to be comfortable releasing too many details just yet, even from the legal standpoint as we are not incorporated as of today either so releasing any of our IP would be reckless until that is 100% locked in. Unlike other companies this one started with the first post of this thread instead of just dumping a website out there first with a vague promise and a buy button. We are displaying things in real time and not on hypotheticals or guesses. I had read somewhere that KnC was inquiring about Scrypt miners, though as they have yet to deliver anything at all I'm not overly concerned. They don't seem very organized, plus PG has been all over them finding the cracks in their enterprise which are everywhere. It would stand to reason they should probably just focus on the ASIC they promised first before starting another product line in parallel, though FPGAs are easier to develop than ASIC hardware. We will see, in the end whoever manages to release a product does good for the network. Assuming cryptocurrency goes mainstream worldwide, there will be plenty of room in the market for the makers of these digital cannons We have something a little different in mind than current offerings however, I will say we are not working on just a single little board for sale, but a complete product line

I don't have much in the way of a real update today, but I have done the most obviously important thing any startup can do: I give you BlockBurner the T-Shirt Next time I'll probably not stare directly into the sun for these shots...

the stupidity increases.... as these guys are local to me, i feel obliged to check them out further even if they wont f2f. He even links to his own facebook account so you can check him out - hes very proud of his 13 y.o citreon you know! Im sure the cash he makes from miners will allow him to upgrade to a 2001 wrx and go "CRUISIN" https://www.facebook.com/scott.davie.77Where did you spot this?

The only time it's not really a risk is if it's a successful person or company that's finished one project, delivered, and then put another up. Like CABLEPAIR! ...Wait... Unless you are BFL, who previously did deliver FPGAs, and used that rep to bilk 1000s of people out of millions of dollars without any return so far aside a tiny few Jalepenos

I've already built a rig that has two 6990's but its very loud and hot..I've been looking into water cooling the rig...i have all the parts besides the fittings....i was wondering if compression fittings are better than clamps and vice versa?
Because the last thing i want is a leak onto the cards.
Compression fittings are easier to deal with more or less, though I've had no trouble with tube clamp fittings either. Also I believe you watercool with Distilled Water. Leaks are bad yes but Distilled water inst a conductor until it becomes dirty?
You want to use distilled water with just a touch of anti-freeze of some kind to prevent stuff from growing in your tubes. You should stick to a similar metal across all blocks in the system or you run a risk of severe corrosion as aluminum and copper react badly, which the anti-freeze will help out there too a bit.

This is interesting. Chips delivered en mass in around 100 days? Is that BFL suggesting they will get most or all of their preorders done within the next 100 days and then concentrate on the chip business? To me it seems pretty unlikely, as the PCBs instead of the chips seem to be the hold up right now. BFL could well be shipping chips while product preorders are still outstanding. It will take a while for third parties to develop, test and ship their own boards so BFL probably have 200 days from now before rival products appear based on BFL chips.
So... at 200 days for 3rd party. I guess the question folks considering chips need to ask themselves is... will third parties deliver faster at 200 days, than BFL itself. Tough call... I would lean towards third parties. I personally have no interest in their chips with the current state of information about them and their reference design. Or it is total BS, which from these guy seems totally likely. Remember, not one unit of the newer BitForce line has shipped, at all. Just a few Jalepenos so far, which is an older one before that little refresh when it was obvious their first design was flawed. Now they suddenly can handle additional demand to ship bulk chips too?

This company is full of monsters, I got my refund today.
I don't care if they deliver ever, no business that operates this way and pisses on their customers deserves support from anyone, even if they somehow manage to finally crap out a product a year late.

Alright, well I did receive my full refund today on my order.
So, it is possible to get a refund if you voice your displeasure enough.
I suggest if you are unhappy with your order you do the same to tell them what you think about their business before it is too late.

We already are freedom fighters. I'm doing what I'm doing to help liberate us from a tyrannical and sick money system that has caused untold misery in the world for generations.
hate to bust your bubble but adopting Bitcoin does not do any of that, if anything it is a major contributor to worldwide tyranny. I would even go as far as saying it seals the deal. I didn't realize at the time this was another one of your troll threads...

When you go from rags to riches it changes people. Are you surprised?
rags? anyone who could afford to get involved in bitcoin was already a first world citizen. please do not make up lies. they were elitist from the start. tell me how a person with rags could get involved in mining? to think the only way to make bitcoin is through mining, is like ssaying the only way to get hold of a gold necklace is to drive to a gold rich area with a mechanical excavator. how about start up a business that sells products, such as groceries, computer parts. lets pretend you have only $10 on you. so you find something worth $13 retail, which you can buy for $10 wholesale.. you then sell it for 0.12BTC ($15.60 to cover shipping) you then cash out 0.1BTC ($13) send the item to the customer. and leave 0.02BTC in your bitcoin wallet. now imagine you have hundreds of different products and thousands of customers.... and realise. mining is not the only way, retail is. or you could always work for a bitcoin business and get paid a wage in bitcoins. and realise mining is not the only way, employment is. welcome to the new ECONOMY of bitcoin. its not just about mining if you have rags that are good enough quality to sell for fiat. sell them for bitcoin edit: actually i just washed my hands and i suddenly need a rag to dry my hands. how much bitcoin will you sell your rags for, there is always a demand for rags. and then you go to jail for not paying your taxes because you cannot afford to after all other costs are accounted for. thanks but no thanks. You clearly have no idea how Bitcoin works, how business works, or how taxes work either. Just because you do business in Bitcoin doesn't give a business an free pass to cheat the tax man, they still have to report their earnings just like any other business or risk penalties and/or jail time per that countries tax laws. Granted, as no country validates the existence of Bitcoin currencies as real it is kind of a grey area in some ways. Again, what is your point with your little tirade here? Are you just mad because you don't have the money to be a miner or? If you don't like Bitcoin or want to be a part of it why the hell are you here complaining?

Thanks guys, now what about OS? Ive got Win 7, Vista, XP etc etc etc.. Does OS have any real effect? Some more stable than others?
I just run CGMiner in Win 7, works just fine. As long as it can run cgminer or similar the OS doesn't matter much, though for system security and such I would recommend something current. Before I came to Windows however I did attempt to use Ubuntu, as with previous experiences with Linux I was tearing my hair out by the end trying to get it to run right, which it never did. I was never able to get a compatible ATI driver to function, which led to GUI problems (where it no longer was loading), and other strange issues, and this was all brand new hardware. There are certainly methods to accomplish this but after a day's worth of trying I had enough. So out came my Windows 7 disc and I've just been mining on that since without issue. This is why Windows runs 90% of the world, as Linux is just a pain in the ass and always has been.
