61  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does lottery rewards expire? on: November 02, 2023, 05:33:57 PM
I think this depends entirely on the game but as per my investigation about lotteries I found out that it takes long for at least three months from the drawing date to claim your prize, anything after is already too late, but the deadline can be extended up to a year too.

So yes lottery rewards can actually get expired, the duration depends on the lottery and the location where you bought it from, power ball time frame is different from mega millions and so on.

I think the best manner of approach is to always check the claiming deadline for a specific lottery to figure out when the ticket will expire, I've not particulate in any lottery before but I am sure that lottery tickets carry their expiring date at the back of the tickets, but not always.

According to the article[1] there are different expiration date of lottery rewards but mostly the ranges from 90 days to 180 days upto a year, like the powerball lottery is set to 180 days while the mega millions is set between 90 days to a year.  In my country claiming lottery rewards can be as long as 1 year.[2]

So yes we should be updated on when is the expiry date of claiming the lottery rewards.

62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you track bulk Bitcoin transactions being carried out by whales? on: November 02, 2023, 05:16:24 PM
Do you track bulk Bitcoin transactions being carried out by whales? Do you feel it has good impact on Bitcoin  prices and a regular trader can benefit from this data.

No I don't follow Bulk Bitcoin transactions being carried out by whales.  What I follow is news about the current event of Bitcoin.  The ETF applications and the market sentiment.  I do not think there is a need to follow this bulk transaction, it will be on the news if it somehow have impact on the market.

If bulk BTC is being sold on the exchange then it will have an impact on the price, it is good for the people who are accumulating because this bulk sale can reduce the price of Bitcoin in the market but  devastating to trader that wanted to sell at a higher price.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the irreversibility of Bitcoin transactions a downside for an average person? on: November 02, 2023, 04:42:51 PM
Bitcoin being irreversible is good for merchants.  Since buyer cannot scam the merchants through cash charge back method but if the merchant plan to scam the buyer, then there is no way the buyer can get his Bitcoin after he paid for the item.

This is the downside of non-reversible transaction. The setup is more on the advantage of a merchant and a disadvantage of the buyer if some there is an issue with the bought product.
64  Economy / Economics / Re: Are You Sticking to Your Plan or Has Life Made You Pause or Modify It? on: November 02, 2023, 04:24:05 PM
No one knows the future so having an alternative plan is a must since there is a chance that the unexpected may happen.  In terms of investment, we must always this fail safe option where we can do if ever the Bitcoin market fail to deliver the expected result.  Sticking to the plan or not depends on the situation.  If there is no need for immediate funding then holding Bitcoin will continue but once there is and my current fund is not enough, I will probably modify my plan and sell some holdings to meet the fund I needed.

There are other plans in life that I feel I need to modify or stop like when the business is not that in demand anymore, instead of losing money in maintaining the business, it is better to give up and reduce the losses.  Same goes when I am investing with altcoins.

66  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My Little Advice For Gamblers on: November 01, 2023, 10:14:53 PM
This is my advice to online gamblers who cannot do without leaving money in their gambling accounts, and also to crypto traders and investors at large.

I can understand about having a confidant in cryptocurrency savings/holdings but I do not think I can have one on my gambling activities and accounts.  Best thing to do is do not leave huge funds in any centralized services like exchanges and casinos.  Always withdraw your fund to your own wallet.  It should be practiced since fund transfer fee isn't that huge.

As a matter of fact I had my parents keep my private key (together with he instruction how to access them) since I trust them more than myself in keeping my important documents and things safe.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The difference between bitcoin and cryptocurrency. on: November 01, 2023, 09:57:54 PM
This is very easy to determine because a coin/cryptocurrency is always behind what Bitcoin represents, and yes, perhaps it can represent money, but never like bitcoin is, because bitcoin is far above all cryptocurrencies, thanks to the bitcoin is that the others exist, the people who only believe in crypto waves and not in bitcoin is like not loving your mother, because thanks to Bitcoin everything is done, if bitcoin makes a movement all the crypto waves go in that direction, because It is the creation, it is the origin of all that, it is that simple, I can't find any other explanation that could make it clearer.

Bitcoin is cryptocurrency so it make sense if we use the word "altcoin" or "other cryptocurrency".  Simply stating cryptocurrency which also represents Bitcoin may cause misconception especially when we are comparing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.

This mistake is commonly made by newbies. The same way a newbie once told me that Binance is better than Trust Wallet (you can imagine such a comparison). While it's great to see new people getting interested in the crypto space, it's important to clarify many misunderstandings. For example, in this case, there's Bitcoin which falls in the category of cryptocurrency and is not a category itself. Educating these newbies about these differences would really help them make informed decisions and avoid misconceptions that could even lead to loss of funds. Thank goodness that we have this platform for people to ask questions and learn.

There is quite a problem in correcting misconception because many newbies and other members who has the tendency to read the title and post reply failed to read other replies, they keep on insisting their on their own knowledge without verifying if they had represented it correctly like the case you stated.  We can observe it in this thread even though many replies corrected them but many still believe that Bitcoin is different from cryptocurrency.  I even plotted the relationship of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency in my earlier reply here but it was ignored.  I think we should not get tired of correcting stuff if we happen to have the right knowledge about it.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin help? on: November 01, 2023, 09:40:15 PM
Bitcoin offers unique opportunities for people who want to make decent amount of money and I have the feeling that if these people start investing in Bitcoin, we will see a rapid decline in global poverty.  What do you think?

I am into Bitcoin but I do not think Bitcoin or Bitcoin investment is the solution to poverty.  Remember at the current trend of Bitcoin, the day where profit multiplies by hundred times is gone.  The last cycle's lowest and highest price (2018-2021) are $3,240.13(December 15, 2018) and $68,789.63 (November 10, 2021) has only 21x profit if we happen to invest at the lowest and sell at the highest which somehow almost impossible to execute.

I do not think that we can still gain a 21x profit in this current cycle since the current cycle lowest price is $15,760 (December 18, 202) unless something extra ordinary happen to push Bullish market to surge crazy.

Aside from that, remember during those accumulation time, poor people will have to sacrifice part of their income in order to have a good profit from Bitcoin investment, this will be hard on them since their funds for their basic needs will get smaller.  These kind of people will suffer more thus may increase the degree of poverty they experienced if they decide to invest and accumulate Bitcoin even in DCA mode.

What resolve poverty is by finding an immediate source of income that does not needs years to decade of years of waiting before getting a reasonable profit.  Finding an additional job that can give the family an additional income can elevate their status and combat poverty.  The government need to help in this and Bitcoin being decentralized cannot do anything about poverty, it can be a tool but it will never be the initiator.

69  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Make a Quality Posts in the Forum on: November 01, 2023, 09:11:52 PM
I must really confess as a newbie it's hard to spot the difference between low quality post and high quality post.

It is quite easy to detect low quality post from high quality posts.  It was already stated by theymos in this thread.

Requoting it again and highlighting the important part:
When trying to write quality posts, a lot of people act as though they're writing a book report for school: putting facts that we already know into their own words. Nobody wants to read that, and you will not get merit for it. Moreover, the length of your post and the quality of your English are only minor factors. In trying to write a quality post worthy of merit, you should offer new ideas, personal experiences, or perspectives that other forum users will actually find new and interesting.

Post that repeats what other had already stated on the earlier replies can be considered as spam and low quality since it does not bring any new ideas but just repeating what other had stated.  In addition to the bolded part, post must be relevant to the topic of the thread.
70  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Timely Secret to Profit on: November 01, 2023, 08:53:17 PM
Bitcoin had been volatile all year out.  Since Bitcoin is highly volatile the Bitcoin market is safe haven for the scalpers.  It is not only for this end year time.  To make not a mistake in this end of year, just continue holding, it is the best strategy for beginners and those who can't read the daily market movement.  We can also do DCA to continuously accumulate Bitcoin without the headache of timing the dip.

Holding and DCA is way easier than reading the daily movement of the market, besides we are already nearing the halving so I guess accumulating now is the best move since bullish trend is not so far away  after the halving event happen.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if there was only one cryptocurrency, which is Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2023, 11:21:18 PM
Do you think Bitcoins has competitions? It’s either Bitcoins or altcoins. There is nothing that is competing with Bitcoins or can take its place. Moreover the price of Bitcoins depends on the supply and demand. As we know that the supply is fixed, so everything that sets the price is the demand. If the demand to accumulate the coin is more, then in order to fulfil this demand the price goes up. So put this activity in the situation mentioned by you in the OP. You will get your answer yourself.

Anything that offers the same kind of service is a competitor. Although Bitcoin dominates the industry, there is no doubt that other cryptocurrencies are taking some share of the market.

For example, a person that is into cryptocurrency have 50% of its portfolio to Bitcoin and the other 50% into the altcoin, just think if altcoin is non-existent,  the portfolio should have been 100% for Bitcoin and this 50% will contribute to the increase of price of Bitcoin in the market.

I agree that the price of Bitcoin is dependent to supply and demand, reason why if there is no other cryptocurrency around, Bitcoin would have way more value than when there is other cryptocurrency in the market.
72  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever been a gambling addict? on: October 31, 2023, 11:03:41 PM
Have you ever felt like a gambling addict?

There are times that we will get hooked to gambling, but the ability to pull out ourselves and control the urges simply means that we are not addicted at all.  I have this kind of experience but at the end of the day if we can control ourselves and can easily stop and take a break in gambling simply means we are not a gambling addict.

and how much did you lose in gambling?

Not much since I always have controlled budget for gambling and after some series of losses, I made a decision that I will gamble at most once a month.  I have some couple of good wins before that series of losses so I can say that I am still in the green zone.  The most I can lose in one sitting is only around $30.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Simple Reason Why Bitcoin is not Money on: October 31, 2023, 10:31:54 PM
Now we finally come to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is said to be money. But is that true? Given the above, we can determine this quite easily. All we need to do is answer the following question: can Bitcoin be used for a concrete, practical purpose besides being traded?

Umm, You can't buy anything if you don't trade your fiat money, yes?  The act of buying and selling commodities is trading.  Money is use for that, same goes with Bitcoin.  If we pay our bills with Bitcoin, we trade Bitcoin for the services.  If we buy candies with Bitcoin, we trade Bitcoin for that chocolate.  Since some merchant does not accept BTC directly(same goes with local currencies), we convert/trade our Bitcoin to fiat that is internationally recognized to purchase things.  Bitcoin having the feature of being used as currency to purchase and buy things, and being globally recognized to be traded with fiat money, isn't that enough proof that Bitcoin can be use for concrete and practical use?

Quote
Money is a medium of exchange; it allows people and businesses to obtain what they need to live and thrive.
Bartering was one way that people exchanged goods for other goods before money was created.
Like gold and other precious metals, money has worth because for most people it represents something valuable.
Fiat money is government-issued currency that is not backed by a physical commodity but by the stability of the issuing government.
Above all, money is a unit of account - a socially accepted standard unit with which things are priced.

74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is this fascination with claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto? on: October 31, 2023, 10:13:28 PM
I've only ever heard of Craig Wright and Paul Le Roux.

With Craig Wright it is obvious he is hoping to make some money. He has filed for dozens of patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office. If you look up the patents they are all pretty vague and based on other people's inventions. I don't know what his endgame is but perhaps by he hopes that by getting some patents approved he can later sue developers for stealing his ideas and gain control over Bitcoin.

It is possibly the case but I am more on CSW and other "Bitcoin Creator" claimant is after the legacy of being the creator of Bitcoin. Once acknowledge his name will be known forever as the creator of the revolutionary financial program that change the course of financial system.  Of course that also includes the possibility to gain more money, but I do not think he can sue any developer who participated in Bitcoin development since Bitcoin github is open-source and is publicly displayed and is licensed under MIT.

This link explains how MIT license works: Open Source Software Licenses 101: The MIT License

76  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is magic internet money on: October 31, 2023, 09:37:25 PM
Bitcoin might be not really money
Bitcoin is really money. It is more real than cash that is backed by nothing and can simply be printed out of thin air.

As much as I agree with you, isn't Bitcoin is backed by nothing and is simply mined out of the code?  This is almost the same as how fiat is created except Bitcoin has upper limit unlike fiat.  Btw, at least fiat have the backing of the government while Bitcoin does not have.  In case of problem with fiat you can go after the government while if Bitcoin got any problem, we can't go after anyone.  Although Bitcoin is subjected to supply and demand, there is no central authority to insure us that the value of Bitcoin will remain, unlike fiat money.  Don't misunderstand me, I am Bitcoin all the way, it is that we keep on saying that fiat money is printed out of thin air, but looking at how Bitcoin is created, they are just in the same concept(many may argue but that is how I see it).

I understand the reference to magic internet money, but I feel it gives a vagueness to Bitcoin when everything is verifiable and transparent and can be easily understood by everyone who tries to.
Cash on the other hand is what has all the mysteriousness about it.

Bitcoin is real internet money.

- Jay -

It used to be called the magic internet money because everyone is surprised how Bitcoin got its value when it has no backing of the government in its earlier years.  But now Bitcoin has its fundamental, I think magic internet money is not applicable to Bitcoin anymore.
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Giveaway Scam On the Rise on: October 31, 2023, 09:22:59 PM
Giveaway scam had been on the rise for many years even before Bitcoin is created.  Malicious people do this kind of trick to boost their followers in social media platform.  Aside from that they also use this giveaway scam to collect KYC from unsuspected victim.  Others even inject malware to the victims gadget system in order to take control and steal their precious cryptocurrency when they click and download something or connect their wallet to the site.

So we should be very vigilant about this kind of giveaway especially when they are using established cryptocurrency as bait.  We should always check on the official site of the said cryptocurrency whether the giveaway is legit or not.  But best would be ignoring them as the earlier reply stated.  It is ok to miss some cent than to compromise our gadget system and lose all our cryptocurrencies.
78  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Spirituality and Betting - Do they Have any Connection? on: October 30, 2023, 11:59:08 PM

I don't know what other people believe, but in my opinion, every win that occurs in gambling, not everything is pure luck, there are other factors that influence it, one of which is our belief and also our skills. every part that happens in your life, there is God who intervenes in it, so never take the small things that happen when you gamble lightly, humans do not live alone,

Chance based gambling games are based on probability.  Its result random and the bet or winnings is a merely coincidence if one does not believe on luck.  While games based on skill like prediction on sports betting and poker games relies more on skill, there is a bit luck on this but the skill takes the greater percentage to win the bet.

When it comes to luck religion like Christianity does not recognize the word since they are more keen on faith for blessings and grace.  With these, I believe that spirituallity and betting have no connection at all.  Even the power of the mind can't alter the result of gambling.

79  Economy / Gambling / Re: 👑 CoinRoyale.com - Original Bitcoin Casino | Trusted Since 2013 ✔️ on: October 30, 2023, 11:44:44 PM
Damn... I'm honestly surprised again. The last time I withdrew funds it took about 30 minutes.

Now it took 15 seconds (I assume due to the lack of load in the mempool).  Shocked
I also think of it from two perspectives. Probably it from their end and also the over load of the mempool. There was a period the mempool was congested in last month whereby tx was also a little bit high. And if it is from their end then they have improved on their system to accommodate more data or information because there are sometimes at the beginning things well not work smoothly but at time goes when they discovered that the number of visitation is high and it making the system slow then they would also improve on it to make it faster.

More likely the release of the withdrawal is timed some seconds before someone finds a block thus the confirmation of the transfer is done in just 15 seconds.  There is no doubt that the withdrawal was processed instantly, it is the confirmation of the network that makes the delay.

Haven't tried the casino yet but taking @icopress comment about the withdrawal process, I got interested in trying my luck on this casino platform Smiley.
80  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - December or January in Saudi Arabia on: October 30, 2023, 11:30:45 PM
https://www.boxingnews24.com/2023/10/frank-warren-says-tyson-fury-needs-to-rest-until-2024-oleksandr-usyk-rematch-will-happen/

Fury’s promotor said that after a less than impressive performance by The Gypsy King, this fight is unlikely to happen in 2023. It’s far more likely that we will have to wait until 2024. It just builds the suspense I guess, this is the fight everybody wants to see, to unify the heavyweight division.

Aside from that this is one of the biggest fight of the history so they need to pump up its advertisement and marketing  two months of preparation for the event is too short both for the business and sports aspect of the deal.  It is really wise to move the date to later date since Fury needs recuperation after his fight against Francis Ngannou, 2 months is too short for recovery and training and may affect Tyson Fury's performance.

There should be no excuse in this fight so there no need to rush things out for Fury.  Let him recovers and prepare well for this fight in case Usyk win, there will be no excuse for Fury. Cheesy
