921  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit, Where Are You! on: March 21, 2018, 02:03:30 PM
At the moment, buying and selling Merit is punishable by painting your trust and negative rating.

At the moment?  Huh You're putting that in a way like it is going to be allowed to buy/sell Merits at some point in future. You should simply say, "It is not allowed to trade Merits." without putting a "At the moment," part at the starting. That makes it sound completely different, and wrong too.

By the way, you just posted a useless thread, containing the same content that has been excessively repeated in many sections already. So, congratulations for being a lazy-head who never cares to read before posting, and, it was a very good try to get your first Merit trying to help some people with a post like this, but I can only see a 0 (zero) in the Merit column of your account, and that might have made you understand that this is not the way to get it.  Roll Eyes

Sorry for the long sentences. I love writing them, not sure about the readers.  Grin Tongue
922  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Newly PBOC Governor Once Called Bitcoin ‘Inspiring’, Praised Its Accessibility on: March 21, 2018, 11:14:52 AM
Just because he said positive things about Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in past it doesn't mean he will lift the regulations after acquiring the governor's seat. And I don't think these are one-man decisions, but there must be debates and a lot of discussions before doing anything like that. So if there were supporters of this cause, I think they wouldn't have done it at the first place.
923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Gain Traction as a Currency? on: March 21, 2018, 11:00:39 AM
In the current quirky world of Crypto, We believe and hope Bitcoin will become a global currency, one that we can spend on "Pizza" the same way we use Visa or MasterCard. What do you think needs to be done to make BlockChain technology a success ?

That doesn't seem to be happening if Bitcoin keeps dumping like this. No business can be stable if a currency backing it up is not stable itself. So I don't think anyone would risk adopting a currency for their business that can turn their $20m to $10m over a night. Though it can go up to $40m as well, but that still doesn't vanish the risk it carries.

https://www.coindesk.com/germany-considers-crypto-legal-equivalent-to-fiat-for-tax-purposes/

.....it could be a huge boost to the German economy and the euro in Germany since people will want to do all their crypto business there.

That rule doesn't apply for business operators I guess, and doing a cryptocurrency business without being taxed is not what Germany allows, but it is just that if a person uses cryptocurrencies as a mode of payment is not taxed for doing so. As, the article says that if an individual is trading cryptocurrencies in their own name will receive a tax exemption, while the exchange where the trades are being done won't receive any.
So, maybe someone would want to go for a shopping trip to Germany, but to start a business there, I don't think that is good idea, as doing it in your own country and doing it there makes it no different.
924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is the best ICO in the market with lowest risk. on: March 21, 2018, 10:25:43 AM
This is why I think there should be restrictions on creating new threads for some account levels, outside some particular boards. Is this really a post worth being placed in Bitcoin Discussion?  Huh
If there were restrictions, this guy (who may not know the right board for his post) wouldn't be able to start this discussion in this board which is totally inappropriate.
Something has to be done for this, seriously. And soon enough.
925  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Restricting accounts below "Member" from creating new threads on: March 20, 2018, 01:49:16 PM
OP, I made the same suggestion, and I believe it's good as a temporary solution while the mods are cleaning the whole forum from spambait topics and spam mega threads.

Mods, why not test it in the Bitcoin discussion subforum for one month and see the results?

Yeah. It should at least be applied for a short period of time just to see its effect, and I'm pretty sure it will be impressive. Any board its applied to will be free from the massive amount of spam and useless threads.
926  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beginner Summary Activity on: March 20, 2018, 01:43:07 PM
Did you even care to look for the answer even within this board before posting this? Because there is a pinned post containing all the questions and answers a newbie needs to know. You don't need to know rocket science to find out a thread shouting your name (or rank) to be read before posting. All you need is two eyes to find it out and a mouse cursor to click it and I doubt you lack any of these. Anyhow, now when you have already did what you shouldn't have, let me post it for you, and then all you need to do is to read it, completely, so that you don't ask some other question in some other board which is already mentioned in that post.

927  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bounties on Second Week or So on on: March 20, 2018, 01:31:14 PM
You can get your stakes even if you join it before 1 week of its end, as long as it is accepting new participants.
So, the answer is yes. You can get stakes even if you miss a few weeks. Join it anytime and complete the things required and you will get what you deserve for that, regardless the time of your joining.
928  Other / Meta / Re: Merit hole and 3 fixes might work (Worth looking) on: March 20, 2018, 11:26:09 AM
Since this complete discussion is based on the point that not all quality posts are merited then I would just answer that, keeping aside at first the other issues you have mentioned along with that.
Undoubtedly, we all know that the population of this forum is way more than a few countries in the world. Keeping that in mind, we can have a rough estimate of how many replies a thread can receive in a time span of 1 hour or so. Now, among these replies, there are quality posts as well, but maybe the readers are not carrying Merits with them, or maybe the one's having Merits to give are missing those posts in the crowd or replies. Now that I don't think is because we have less Merit Sources, or people are ignoring them, but it is because of the increasing population of this forum. People with available sMerits in their accounts only Merit the posts they come across while surfing the forum. I don't think anyone would sit in front of his PC with the only task of finding constructive posts to Merit them.
So basically, I don't think there is anything wrong with the system or we have less Merit Sources, but these things will keep happening, even if we have way more Merit Sources. As long as we are too many (I mean the users), we will see such things in future too. The system is not to be blamed for something like this IMO.
929  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Way to Search the Forum on: March 19, 2018, 10:36:43 AM
Hi all,

Been really trying to use the search function on bitcointalk.org to find Altcoin Announcements and
the search results, are not accurate at all in any way.

Any suggestions, on how to get better search results?

The search function finds the content in only the section you are in. So it is recommended to search something staying at the index (Home) page so that it brings the results searching the complete forum. It works totally fine for me.

Was also thinking about a way to track any new thread created on
the Announcement Section of bitcointalk.org.

Is there a way to do this?

Go to the section for which you want to get notified for new topics. There is a button right beside the Pages section below "Child Boards" named "notify" (if you can't it, simply press Ctrl+F and write 'notify' in there. It will find it for you). Click on that and you will get a pop up alert asking you to allow notifications for new posts in that section, and click "ok". Now you will get notifications for the new topics posted in that board.
930  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Restricting accounts below "Member" from creating new threads on: March 19, 2018, 09:48:33 AM
i think the best idea is  let the mods  do the job and add more mods for specific section  to monitor the response of many new comers.   because if you restrict the account below member you put a limit  to them. as far as i know this is a forum that every body can share and can learn about bitcoin even there has many garbage threads, their account is new, evrybody here is equal. dont make their world become small.   how can you motivate them if you restrict their account. you dont the talent of every new comers here. how they can earn a merit from that specific section they want to post a thread if you restrict them.  sorry but i dis agree.

Why let the mods do the job if it can be done without them? Mods can do other stuff if this is not on them. And besides, I'm suggesting to let them create threads in some particular boards/sections like Beginners & Help where they can still ask their questions and post their queries, but until they learn the basic things, they should not be allowed to post in other more important sections. They still can post in the threads though, so that they can reach to the rank where their restrictions will be lift. And if they can't rank up, they will be in that position forever, and they deserve it.

The threads can be reviewed before its published.

That can help in this case, but it will be another hassle to hire more mods to cover the threads being published as we all know we have a very huge population in here. So restricting is still a better solution to that.

if you look into altcoin mining section, I think restriction for accounts below Member won't be good idea.

Well, I think I have clearly stated that there should be exclusions from the sections where they cannot start new threads. So they would be allowed to post in a few sections/boards like Beginners & help and some other whichever admins think are good choices for this.

Maybe add a new benefit to Copper Member?
The Copper member is what can solve the gap here.

That can be an addition to this implementation for sure. Members with abilities can buy Copper Member and post freely in any section they want (Copper Member advantages would need to be updated for sure). And I'm pretty sure that every spammer wont buy it just to post nonsense as they can't join paid campaigns with these ranks and it would be useless to buy a rank to post without getting any benefits out of it.

maybe just allow one topic in some other sections outside beginners and help, off-topic, etc... just because there can be someone who knows his stuff.

And what if they start creating new accounts just to ask their useless questions in other sections? That is why I suggested to allow them to post in just some sections like Beginners & help where they can ask anything they want, but nothing outside that section. That way, they will be compelled to just read the things in other sections and will only be able to reply but won't be able to ask the exact same things posted just a few minutes back by creating a new thread.

1) Most of these threads that look spam to you are made by new members who have very less knowledge about bitcoins and crypto. They are just asking their doubts which look funny to an experienced person.

2) Some members may be joining just to ask some questions here, if you restrict it from this, they will move to other platforms like Quora.

3) There is already a  report to moderator option present on all options and you can use it if you find someone ding this repeatedly with wrong intentions.

1) Why do they need to ask about their doubts if they have already been answered before? All they need to do is to read, and that is what they don't do, and this restriction will make them do it, at least to some extent.

2) Well, they are always allowed to leave if they want. Having more people has never been a need of this forum. All we do here is get what we don't know and give away what we know. If you can't do both, then you are not welcome. And, I have said this too many times but saying it again, they should be allowed to post in some sections so that they can ask their questions.

3) We are tired of doing that. And if that could finish the spam we have in here, I don't think we would have a Merit system in the forum today.
931  Other / Meta / Re: Survey Only, Dont be Harsh to me on: March 19, 2018, 09:00:47 AM
What are you actually trying to say? "I don't complain about Merit system, but sMerit system is a problem."  Huh What the hell does that supposed to mean?
Do you see merit and sMerit same?  Grin really?

How will the system work if there aren't sMerits to be transferred between the accounts??  Huh
Come on! read again, dont came on a conclution without reading the whole thread, you blind?

P.S: Btw, how many times did you use the word "shit" combined with other nouns in your post?  Roll Eyes I couldn't help but notice your attempt of trying to make your post attractive, but that is not actually the way of doing it.
I dont need to make my post to be attractive, look at your self  Smiley Cheesy Cheesy Grin that's your way to be attractive? and get a merit on a shit post? LOL! I wasted 2 mins of my life arguing with this shit.

PS: There's no rules about saying the word shit so who care's if i say SHIT SHIT SHIT a million times?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2842261.msg29153561#msg29153561
is this what you call high quality post?  Grin

And that makes it obvious that you know nothing about the system, nor a thing about quality posts.  Roll Eyes
You probably have a lot to learn. Being jealous of people because their posts are merited wont help you in this case.  Roll Eyes
932  Other / Meta / Re: Feeling sad on: March 18, 2018, 02:43:01 PM
They wouldn't have come up with this thought if there was to be any other way of getting Merits except for quality posting.
So, there is only one other way, and that is to get out of this forum. You either earn Merits or gtfo of here, because if you can't earn Merits, you are stuck in that rank forever, and I know you can't bear that because you are here only to earn a few bucks and not growing your rank means no money, or less money. And I doubt someone not looking for money in this forum cares to be sad just because he hasn't ranked up just yet. What's the hurry for getting promoted if you are just here to learn? But you are not, right? Hell yeah!

Sorry for everything I said if that hurt you. I really don't want to make you sadder, but I gotta be honest, you know.

He shoots my dog. He misses it, but I spot him doing that.
He then says to me, "Though I tried to kill your dog, but my gun has a license."  Roll Eyes
And then I'm like, "What???  Huh How on earth does that justify your action?  Huh"

Moral of the story:
OP is doing the same.  Grin

935  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Restricting accounts below "Member" from creating new threads on: March 18, 2018, 01:14:21 PM
This is something that I've suggested on several occasions. In fact I suggested that very new members should be restricted in posting in some threads as well.

Here:
restrict accounts below "Member" rank from creating new threads

Any account having a rank below "Member" should be restricted, and that includes very new members as well, of course.

It sometimes looks like the OP of some threads doesnt know how to or doesnt want to use the search function in the forum.
There are so many threads thate essentially duplicates of other ones.

Exactly. Eventhough every little information about the things a new member would want to know are already present in some (or many, sometimes) old thread, and most of them are even pinned in those boards, but they still post new threads asking about the same thing that is repeatedly asked about 200 times before.

This thread is a classic example of why there should be restrictions.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3152896.0

There are hundreds of them. Someone would run out of space if starts to gather all of them at one place. The only way to stop them permanently is to restrict their accounts. If you want to kill a tree, you need to cut its roots. Cutting its branches won't help as it grows 2 more if you cut one.
936  Other / Meta / [Suggestion] Restricting accounts below "Member" from creating new threads on: March 18, 2018, 12:47:08 PM
Hi everyone.

I know it might not sound a really good idea, or may no one agree with me, but I think it can (at least to some extent) reduce the spam threads popping up every day in every section/board of the forum.

We all know, of course because we see it all the time, that every new and useless thread carrying a thought/question that makes no sense at all is created by someone within the ranks of Brand New and Jr. member. Such threads give other people around them a chance to start spamming it with their useless replies. Thus, a thread started with a baseless argument ends up receiving over 100 pages of shit. And we are not talking about just one, but they are in hundreds, increasing everyday with a quite good pace. The users get tired of reporting, and the mods get tired of deleting them. So why not stop this all at once?

So, the basic idea that I propose to stop all this, is to restrict accounts below "Member" rank from creating new threads in most of the sections/boards, excluding a few like "Beginners & Help" or some other where they can freely post anything they wish as these boards are made specially for noobs and to help them. Doing so will absolutely reduce a very large number of useless threads started in almost every single thread of this forum.
It can obviously be implemented with changes, but I just wanted to propose the basic idea.

Suggestions/arguments are welcome.

Okay, so I have just wasted 2 minutes of my time for reading this "shit" post.  Roll Eyes

I doubt you know how the system basically works. A person is supposed to understand the fundamentals of something before reaching to a self-made conclusion about it. Below is the post about Merit system. Read it and then start arguments when you actually get to know it properly.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

Lol!
So the people that used to sell popcorns on roads for $5 a pack are now selling Merits in bitcointalk for $28 each  Grin
Besides the pros and cons it carries, this system is gonna make a lot of people rich I must say ( if they manage to find some buyers [you can literally replace "buyers" with "fools" in this sentence, for this case] ) Grin Grin
939  Other / Meta / Re: Bctalk posts count not correct? on: March 17, 2018, 01:39:07 PM
This thread should have been locked up right away after this reply:

I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.

I don't really understand the reason for the discussion to keep going on while the question asked in OP has been answered already.
@suzanne5223, kindly lock the thread now to prevent any more replies that are not needed at all.
940  Economy / Services / Re: Found a paypal loophole on: March 16, 2018, 11:50:44 AM
There is no loophole at all. This guy is trying to scam people and steal their money through this non-existing, mind-made method of his.
Anyone getting in contact with him will likely lose his money and if anyone is to be blamed for that would be that person himself.
If you don't want to get fooled for your money, don't get greedy and ignore such offers. I'm saying that to everyone.  Roll Eyes
